Has anyone found a good solution to the problem of terrifyingly fragile USB 3.0 motherboard connectors? I've considered getting a low profile angled one that should allow the thick and janky default header that most cases come with to safely reside in the back. Has anyone tried anything like this out? This janky fragile POS that I've busted or bent pins because of multiple times. This is something I've thought of doing just so I can safely stash the actual connector in the rear and not worry about torquing the heck out of it to get a seamless run. I've had dozens of scenarios over the years where this has been a problem, just never thought to actually fix it.

So im currently buying parts for my new pc and i already ordered my asus strix 3090 OC and was going to buy the intel i9 10900k cpu which only supports pci 3.0 but i just noticed that the i9 11900k that does 4.0 will be released the 30th this month So my question is the following Would it even be worth it going for the 11900k for the pci 4.0 when using a 3090 or is 3.0 fine? People says the 11900k is worse in gaming compared to the 10900k but i was wondering if using a 3090 which supports pci 4.0 would make a difference in gaming when actually utilizing the pci 4.0 instead of 3.0 and might get better frames than the 10900k because of using 4.0 instead of 3.0? any thoughts?

Ok so I looked around and it seems there is no issue at 4k and 1440p since then you are GPU bound, where the issue seems to be is at 1080 in CPU bound scenarios? My question is why?! Can someone please explain why?!! Most also tested on a Ryzen 7 5800 which begs a bigger question what the hell will happen to a Intel Core i5-9600K, Ryzen 5 1600AF & 3600? Or let's go mother of all lemons and use a 4790K or Pentium G3258? How bad can the PCI x8 be on PCI-E 3.0?

Hi I have some situation that I have Asus h110m em.2 motherboard and can not upgrade now, I have budget for gpu and want to upgrade with the latest one like Gigabyte Radeon RX 5500 XT OC 4GB Graphics Card link : https://www.startech.com.bd/gigabyte-radeon-rx-5500-xt-oc-graphics-card which is pcie 4.0. But my mobo is pcie 3.0 supported. Can I use this gpu in this mobo? I dont have any problem if there are any bottleneck issue soon I will upgrade my pc....I just want to know is there any gaming or productivity problem? If i use this? Thank you

Hello my knowledgeable friends, Im building a new pc on a budget and due to limitations i had to scrap buying a new SSD. I however, have 2 external hdd's combined to a total of 2TB of storage. They are both Toshiba 1TB drives spinning at 5400RPM with Sata 3.0GB/s. Would i just be able to remove the USB 3.0 adapter and install them like any other new drive in my system? Will i be able to format them in the windows install upon boot of my new system? Or will they fail to work or be recognized in any way shape or form? Thanks, again. This forum is amazing! -Erb

I'm looking for a powered USB 3.0/3.1 extension so i can get the i/o downstairs from my PC to my TV. I already looked up how to get HDMI downstairs with active HDMI cables and extenders, and i would like to do it. I want my main setup to be upstairs, but sometimes I will want to play games at a bigger screen. Thunderbolt is out of the question as i am going for a Ryzen PC.

I am having issues with my usb ports on my rear i/o. I have an asus z170-a mobo and all of my usb ports including my front panel ports are working. But, the 2 usb 3.0 ports on the back of the mobo do not work and when I try to uninstall the malfunctioning driver the error comes up again. I keep getting error code 43 in device manager and nothing I do fixes it. I tried calling asus but they would not answer. I also tried downloading and installing all of the usb 3.0 drivers off of the asus website but this did not help. Anything else I can do?

Is it possible and/or logical to effectively have your boot drive connected to a USB "forever." In my case (and I know I'm about to get a lot of hate) I want to get a Mac Pro 2012 (The older more customizable model) I want to have USB 3 PCIe card where it has a USB in the back where I could possibly put an USB to SATA cable and slap an SSD to have as my formal boot drive. This is a question and I want logical unbiased answers. Thanks! Best Regards, Jack F. Some Product Examples: PCIe USB 3.0 Card USB 3.0 to SATA

Like the title, I want to know which has better overall cooling: Gigabyte's Windforce 2X or EVGA's ACX 3.0, both with two fans. The cards are nearly identical in specs otherwise and cost the same. Card in mind: 1050 Ti

Hello, I'm currently in the process of upgrading my current PC's specifications (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Draconid/saved/#view=dwyMpg) up to a higher standard by purchasing myself a Ryzen (What I'm buying: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Draconid/saved/#view=T3GCJx) until recently I hadn't realised that my IO panel only has 2 usb 2.0 slots (my case: http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/elite-311/) and I wanted to ask whether my motherboard will still be able to make use of these USB's, as otherwise I don't really have access to the back of my computer.

I bought a twin pack of USB 3.0 flash drives (2x 32gb Sandisk) the first became my daily drive for work while the other sat in my drawer for back up. It worked for a few weeks on both my laptop and desktop but now for some reason the drive only works in 2.0 ports. When plugged in to 3.0 port, the LED lights up but it doesn't connect to the PC or show in disk management. This would not be an issue if my laptop had 2.0 ports (only has 3.0). The other drive in my drawer works fine in both 3.0 and 2.0 ports so I do not think it's a driver issue or a hardware issue, it must have something to do with the drive itself. I would like to figure out what the problem is in order to prevent it from happening to my other drive.

Hey guys, I find myself confused about PCIe lanes, and I'm sure one of you understands this better. I have a TUF Mark 1 x299 board with an Intel Core i9 7900X, so I have 44 3.0 lanes to work with. Here are the motherboards PCIe slots: 3xPCIe 3.0 (x16), 2xPCIe 3.0/2.0 (x4) (1_PCIe (x1), 2_PCIe (x4)) 2xPCIe 3.0 M.2 (x4)Here's what I have / want in them:1_PCIe 3.0 (x16) GTX 1080 (3.0x16) (Have)1_PCIe 3.0/2.0 (X1) HDSPe AIO (1.0x1) (Have)2_PCIe 3.0 (x16) GTX 1050ti (3.0x16) (Have)2_PCIe 3.0/2.0 (x4) [Empty]3_PCIe 3.0 (x16) Magewell Pro Capture 4k+ (2.0x4) (Have)1_PCIe 3.0 M.2 (x4) Intel 600P 1tb (3.0x4) (Have)2_PCIe 3.0 M.2 (x4) Intel 600P 1tb (3.0x4) (Want)So if you add up the lanes of what each device uses:40 PCIe 3.0 lanes4 PCIe 2.0 lanes1 PCIe 1.0 laneWith a total of 45 lanes. This exceeds the 44 lanes on my CPU correct? Or are the 2.0 / 1.0 lanes run through the board and not the CPU? If it is taking up all my lanes which device will throttle? I would prefer the GTX 1050ti as it is just dedicated to encoding and PhysX, will I have to move it to a different slot to make sure it is the device that throttles?Am I even on the right path here?Thank you, hope it isn't too confusing.

I tried Googling it myself I can mix answers and rather confusing. My question is, which is the most stable and problem free and of course I would prefer the fastest ( that be USB 3.0 I guess lol ) way to fresh Install Windows 10 via Flash Drive. Well what I found out to be SAFE just go with USB 2.0 and with a USB 2.0 Flash Drive. But the downside is, where the hell do you even buy new USB 2.0 Flash Drive and secondly isn't USB 2.0 like super duper slow ??? Even a 3.0 is only like the speed of a 7200 RPM HDD which is rather slow as well.... Some claimed that only older generation hardware ( Mobo etc ) and Windows 7 you're unable to install the Windows using Flash Drive through USB 3.0. While Windows 10 has native support for USB 3.0 and most modern Mobo will work with USB 3.0 as well.... So what's everyone's opinion ? My planned build Mobo would be a Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5. I have a few USB 3.0 lying around. Wonder if the brand matters. Another question is which I couldn't find the answer to....do I actually need Driver to even get my USB 3.0 ports to work ?? On my current PC, all my peripherals are plugged into 2.0...so back when I was doing fresh Win 7 install I'm using a disc instead, so everything runs fine. Some people told me that USB 3.0 won't work till you install the Driver / Mobo Driver for it

i purchased a flash drive from a brick store assuming it is 3.0 but it is operating in speeds of 2.0. i checked flash drive details using chip genius and it shows protocol as 2.0(what). im 100% sure that im using the flash drive in usb 3.0 port. i just wanted to know that if this might be the fault of drivers or something else before i go and kick the sellers ass. i suspect that the drive actually is 2.0 but was sold with label of 3.0(fake drives). note: os: windows 10 flash drive: SAMSUNG USB 3.0 Flash Drive BAR 32GB(at least it looks alike)

Hello everyone! I have the ASUS Z97-AR motherboard and I was planning to buy a M.2 SSD drive for it, Samsung SSD 960 EVO (http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-960-evo-m-2-250gb-mz-v6e250bw/) Until I did some research and realized my motherboard's M.2 slot uses PCI express 2.0 and only 2 lanes, so I wouldn't be able to get full speeds from my M.2 drive. Is it possible to get that full speed on my motherboard if I use a PCI-express 3.0 M.2 Adapter for the M.2 SSD? This is the adapter I was looking at (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboard-Accessory/HYPER_M2_X4_MINI_CARD/) I would also really appreciate any other tips on installing it (what I need to configure in the BIOS to install Windows on the M.2 drive, etc) Thanks!

I occasionally see USB 3.0 that support UASP but never with 3.1, so I'm just curious if 3.1 supports it by default.

Hi, So I'm looking at a possible combination of motherboard and case and noticed a conflict in how many USB 3.0 headers the case needs vs how many the motherboard has. Motherboard I'm looking at is the Asus ROG Maximus IX Formula and the case is the Cooler Master Mastercase Maker 5t. First problem is, since the 5T has 4 USB 3.0 ports on the front, it needs 2 USB 3.0 headers and the Formula IX only has 1 (really wish they kept the 2 headers like the Formula VIII but that's besides the point). So to take advantage of all the front ports, I'd need something like this PCIe USB 3.0 expansion headers card. My question then stems from using an expansion card like that. Would adding USB 3.0 headers via a PCIe card like that affect bandwidth of using those ports? As in if I had every USB 3.0 port on the motherboard and case occupied, would I experience slower speeds due using more USB headers than came with the board? Also on the description page for the Formula IX, it says it's designed to have 6 USB 3.0 ports, 4 that come on the board and 2 via the header. If I used an expansion card like that which adds 4 ports on the front for a total of 8 ports instead of the rated 6, could that cause bandwidth-related slowdown issues from using more ports than it's designed to have? Thanks in advance!

As the title suggests. Plugging anything into the usb 3.0 or audio ports (on the front or back IO panel) does absolutely nothing, Realtek Audio doesn't recognize any input and neither does Windows. They've worked fine for almost 2 years but all of a sudden they're bricked. All the usb 2.0 ports still work fine so I'm guessing it's something to do with the drivers. Here's what I've tried: Checking all relevant cables from the front panel are still properly connected to the motherboard (the back IO is part of the motherboard) Updating all audio, motherboard and usb drivers to the latest versions Reverting all audio, motherboard and usb drivers to the versions I got in the motherboard box Googling it Praying to Gaben All of them have given the same result: nothing If anyone has ideas as to what could be going wrong and how I could solve it I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks

usb USB Ports: How to Identify Intel USB Ports
grasspuff posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello. Okay from my basic 2-minute understanding chipsets are what controls USB ports, right? aaaandd I remember reading a while back that motherboards come with like, additional USB ports with 3rd-party USB controllers soldered on to the PCB (like VIA, etc). So as per the title, how to do you identify Intel USB Ports? -
Hey, yall. First post on here. So basically I found this USB. Its a Vision Tek 128 GB USB 3.0 SSD USB(Yes the actual name in Disk Management). As the name, (and this link of the exact USB https://www.legitreviews.com/visiontek-120gb-usb-pocket-ssd-drive-review_157991) states, it's a pretty fast and high storage USB. So, I wanted to make it a portable and bootable Windows 10 drive. So after formatting, and getting the ISO for the USB. I decided that I would use Rufus to mount the ISO to the drive. However, RUFUS does not detect the drive. I tried every online solution from updating the drivers and re-plugging it in, but it wouldn't work. I don't know why this is happening, because Windows detects it and I can move and use files on the USB. My only suspicion is that Disk Management it says that it is a SCSI USB, which is apparently server gear, but I don't know much about it. If someone could help me out, that would be great. I will provide screenshots if necessary. Thanks!
