I've been told if I move my gpu I would have issues with heat since it would be next to my cooler, is this true? I'm also planning to move the soundcard to the bottom slot. I would just like to hear more opinions on this since I really want it to be in the 16x slot.

Can anyone please help me with this? I have an ASRock B450 pro4-f motherboard with r5 2600x and a msi rx 570 8gb gpu. I have no SSD just two HDDs. But for some reason my gpu is running at 8x 3.0 instead of 16x 3.0. I'm just hoping nothing is faulty here. And yes I have put the gpu in the 16x slot. I have also reseated my gpu and cpu. I have never updated bios before so I'm a bit nervous about that and I don't know if motherboard has a backup bios if anything goes wrong. Not too sure if it would solve the problem. I have given the bios settings in the attached image. I have updated the graphics card driver twice and also ddu it once. So I don't Think it's a gpu driver issue.

So recently I built my second computer, my first hardlined build. It passed the leak test and everything appeared to be working fine, however now when I try to boot it up, it shows the loading screen and sometimes makes it to the login screen, but then I either lose signal to my display, or something else happens that I haven’t figured out yet. Now everything stays e same and the keyboard and mouse are still lit up, it only looks like I lose display output. Now I’ve examined the computer, (initially thinking it was a RAM problem or caching problem and I reset the bios and all this stuff yeah didn’t work) and found that my 2080Ti graphics card didn’t appear to fully seated in the PCIE slot. I tried to correct it, but then I realized the chipset fan seems to be in the way of allowing it to fully click....I googled and search for others having a similar issue however I couldn’t really find anything. There either has to be some sort of work around that I can’t figure out or my research skills aren’t that good. I’ve tried to reseat the card to the extent that I can without having to remove the tubing and solution and graphics card entirely, since I didn’t really (and don’t really) want to risk it. Also, removing the chipset fan I assume would require the entire removal of the graphics card, presenting the same problem. If anyone can check if my theory appears to be right or has any other ideas of what it could be I’d greatly appreciate it!! Thank you so much!! I’ve attached some photos, however the video showing it working and then losing display output (or so I think) was too big.....

As far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong, a Graphics card (lets use a 1080 for example) in a pcie 16x slot isn't using the full 16x 3.0 bandwidth. Could you, theoritically, use a pcie splitter to attatch a GPU and a 4x pcie ssd to one pcie slot? I'm just thinking of this because I run a mini ITX PC and would love a pcie SSD (no m.2 slot).

Hi I want to buy an AMD RX 460 and I was wondering if it will work in my asrock H16m-dgs which has a pcie 3.0 x16 port. I know this is a stupid question but im new to PC's and 11 years old so please don't hate.

So here's the deal, I've got an i5 6600k and a normal Z170 MOBO with a GTX1070 in my rig right now. Nothing special, but I want to add a PCIe wifi card to the system. The only issue is that according to a document from intel I read, my cpu only has support for up to 16 PCIe lanes, and last I checked the 1070 needs all 16 for max performance. So what I'm wondering is, will adding a 1x card to my mobo cause detrimental effects to my GPU due to a cpu bottleneck? inb4 "game on ethernet" because I'm in an old ass house that doesn't have ethernet wiring so getting a cable to my office would require drilling holes in the floor or something else janky like that. Any wisdom would be appreciated!

Hi everyone I am doing research to help a friend build a workstation pc for his photo/video editing. My idea was to make a no compromises itx form factor workstation. While doing this I ran into a problem with the itx motherboards. The problem was pcie slots so I made this thread to ask if it is posible to split a single pcie 16x slot into two 8x speed 16x size slots. I want this because I know the gpu can run fine at 8x bandwith and I need to be able to use a pcie based ssd since the motherboard does not have m.2 or any ssd supported inteface that is not slow sata 6 gigabit. Also the motherboard is the ASRock - EPC612D4I Thank you for the help

I have an MSI GTX 970 G4 Gaming card that is not being detected in Windows. I was running it alongside a Nvidia GTX 970 and was running them both in SLI with the card from Nvidia being my main output card. Recently, I've been thinking about selling a card, buying a 1080, and then selling the other one. I was testing both cards just to make sure that my system will be alright with only one card and I wasn't getting any display output from the MSI card. The lights on the card still light up and the fans on the card do still spin. It is not recognized by Windows Device Manager, GPU-Z, or NZXT CAM. My BIOS doesn't recognize that there is a card when that card is inserted alone and it isn't recognized when put in SLI with the other card, however, the first card is stepped down to 8x from 16x like it should when paired with another card. I have tried updating, uninstalling, reinstalling, switching out cards in different motherboard slots. None of the previous solutions have worked.

So I needed a computer to help capture some video for remote meetings in the current situation. Trying to get my old computer going and everything was going great, needed to pull a old drive out but my newly acquired second hand 960G1 was in the way. As I pulled it out the plastic around slot came off with it and not sure how to get it back on. (Yes the clip was removed, never had an issue removing gpus before as I help build and repair for others, just never had this issue.) im in Australia (was tempted to submit for ROG reboot, if I could afford a new pc I would but I work in community support roles and pay isn’t the best, plus three kids. Hoping to be able to fix this. The board is a Gigabyte GA-Z77x up5th with a 3770k and a got that I may now be able to use. help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Dual gpu card setup is x8, but if you disable one of the cards does the pcie x16 slot run full speed? reason is I am going to get the 30 series but I run hackintosh so I want l the 3080 series, and my Vega 56 both in it. And the only CPUs that run 100% no prob that I know is intel coffee lake. So please don’t tell me get a cpu with more pcie lanes the 9900k is as good as it gets for my usage.

I have a i7 4790, a Z87-a motherboard. I have quite a few expansion cards. So here is my issue, GPUz says my 980 Ti is running at x8 1.1. I was told supposedly on the OBS Discord that one of my expansion cards could be causing the 16x slot to run slower. I have in order, a 980 Ti, Fresco Logic PCIe to USB 3.0 card, my Elatgo HD60 Pro, and a SATA to PCIe expansion slot. How do I determine which PCIe card is slowing my GPUs PCIe lane down, OR is it that I am pushing the limit of lane support for my i7 4790? I have never run into or even thought about PCIe cards affecting each others lane speed. Please help me as this issue is affecting my streaming and gameplay as well.

So i just got my xfx R9 390 to replace my GTX 750Ti. I am unsure if i should use just the 390 alone and get PCIe 16x speeds, or have the 750Ti in and use it as a physx card by ''hybridizing'' the cards (video on hybrid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXQ5pI7DZoQ ). But if i have 2 cards on my mobo i can only have PCIe 8x on both. so my question is: Will a PCIe 8x connection in any way bottleneck the R9 390? NB!: My mobo only supports PCIe 2. gen, so no 3.0 speeds, i have heard that a 8x-2.0 is like a 4x-3.0.

Hello friends. Can any of you fine folks with experience building workstations advise me on a motherboard capable of running at least four PCIE lanes each in a 16x configuration? My technical knowledge only extends as far as standard desktop components and sadly a lot of them usually tend to have 16/0/0/0 or 8/8/0/0 PCIE configurations and such. I need at least a 16/16/16/16 configuration and the supporting processor(s) for this beautiful, beautiful machine. As far as my research goes, I have here the, an ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS, intended to seat two of the Xeon-2620 v3 which should happily suit my needs although it's not too easy keeping up with the workstation scene. Can I do better? Dual CPU is not an absolute requirement, but I mean COME ON! You know you want to see that build log! ~D

Lately I’ve been having some issues with the PCIE connectivity on my Dell Vostro 220 that I use as a HTPC. The GPU was running at PCIE 2x instead of 16x. I decided to try to rebuild the system, and when doing so, I realized the motherboard was severely bent around the CPU socket. I was able to straighten the bend up, and the GPU ran well at PCIE 16x and the machine seemed well... Until now. Now I’m getting the same problem as before, and I’m thinking something is damaged around the CPU socket, which is preventing the full 16x bandwidth. My suspicion is on the motherboard as I’ve tested different CPUs (a Celeron 440) and CPUs (a Radeon 2400xt), with no luck. Current system specs: Dell Vostro 220 case Dell Vostro 220 motherboard (Foxconn G45M03) G45 Chipset 2 x 2 GB ddr2 800MHz Xeon E5420 4 cores @ 2.5GHz (LGA 775 to 771 mod) Radeon HD 5750 60 GB Kingston SSDNow Corsair CX500M I’m currently considering getting a new motherboard, more precisely this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-G45M03-JJW8N-Vostro-220-220s-LGA775-Motherboard-No-BP-/371511503882?hash=item567fcfac0a:g:bJgAAOSwd0BV4Gwu#shpCntId Any tips on how to fix this problem without getting a new motherboard? PS: The case does not have a removable rear io shield, so getting a different motherboard won’t work

i asked this before here on this site a couple of month ago and no one gave me a correct answer so i will ask it again and hope that someone answer me this time how can the ASUS X99-E WS Run 4-way SLI/CF GPU's on 16X PCIe 3.0 lanes all of them even when using 40 lane CPU and please don't tell me they run 16X/8X/8X/8X coz i sent them an email and they confirmed me that yes 4 GPU's will run 16X/16X/16X/16X thanks

Hi all! I have a question regarding CPU lanes and how they effect in general. So I have build myself a PC and in the future I see me adding an WI-FI card to the system ( for enabling wi-fi threw connectify., or conneting to the web by wi-fi...). Now I did some research and found out that my CPU (i5 4460) supports 16 lanes and that my motherboard MSI z87 g43 gaming has the appropriate PCI express for my graphic card MSI R9 280 gaming 3g which is PCI express 3.0 16x. Now I looked for some wi fi cards and found some that work with an PCI slot and/or PCI express slot. And now the questions. If I put an wi fi card in the system lets say it works on 1x or 2x does this mean that my graphics card wil now work on 8x? And if it will, what kind of effect will this have on the performance of the graphics card? Or if the wi fi card connects threw the PCI slot 1x and the graphics card is in the PCIe 16x 3.0 will it work on 16 x regardless?

2 questions for the sake of knowledge 1 can you oc buffered, registered or ecc ram 2 how can the asrock x99 extreme11 and the asus x99-e ws support 4 way sli with all four card running 16x pci lanes on a 40 lane cpu and does anyone of these mb support oc thanks

Hello, I am new to the forums but am familiar with the YT channel, well here goes! I am putting together a new build with the x99 platfom. My current delima is if the 5820k that i want to use alongside my Asus rampage v extreme will work in a 980ti Sli & M.2 configuration, like this 980ti 16x 980ti 8x M.2 4x (boot drive) Will be a sm951 nvme once its out The 5820k has 28 lanes so 16+8+4= 28 Has anyone done this or know someone that has done so, heck even knowing that it will or wont work is what i am looking for Thanks in advance guys! Also sidenote is the asus gamers first 3 and its features worth it? being able to manage my att&t dsl speed would allow me to play a game such as league of legends and have a youtube video playing ( i currently cannot as the video wants to load so fast that it lags my game out) Again thanks all!

hi, I was just planning an upgrade to my current pc, and I came across the conundrum of if sli on a gtx 980 or 970 or any other modern graphics card, would work on a PCI-E gen 2 16x slot. I know that nvidia makes it so that sli will only work on 16x and 8x slots, but I'm not sure if that includes the older generations of PCI-E. any help is greatly appreciated I hope you have a nice day -poposo

System specs: - Win 7 - Intel Core i5 4670K 4x 3.40GHz So.1150 BOX - 2048MB Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 Windforce 3x OC - ASRock Z87 Pro3 Intel Z87 So.1150 Dual Channel DDR3 ATX Retail - 650 Watt Super Flower Golden Green HX Non-Modular 80+ Gold - 8GB (2x 4096MB) Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 All of my hardware is new. Gpu-z reports that my bus interface is running at 4x instead of 16x. Feels like I'm getting more jagged edges and things "popping" on my screen after it changed to 4x. And I noticed a little decrease in benchmark results. And I've noticed that gpu power consumption never goes over 85%. Heaven benchmark uses only about 65% tdp and msi kombustor uses 85%. If I boost my power limit to 111%, power consumption goes to 92% in kombustor. Is it weird that it newer goes to 100%? Things I've tried: - reseated everything (gpu, cpu, memory) - nvidia control panel: prefer maximum performance (power management mode) and single display performance mode. Vsync. Physx settings from autoselect to gpu and cpu. - using different memory slots. - default cpu and gpu clocks - updated bios - updated drivers (also tried older and beta nvidia drivers) - reinstalling windows - 10 passes in memtest86 and 0 errors - installed windows updates - power options: high performance (link state power management: off) - adding 12mv voltage to gpu - increasing power limit (gpu) - checked for visible hardware faults - cleaning pcie slot and gpu golden pins

So yeah, I've been wondering if I should buy this motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MHC6K6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AZCEI3EMXUPTH It is good for my immediate use, but someday I will probably want to add a second graphics card (GTX 770) in Sli. So. Will the second generation PCI-express be able to handle that?
