Title says it. I am building a new PC and I was wondering whether I should get an Intel core i7 6700k or wait for early 2017 for AMD's zen line. My GPU is a GTX 1080. I just need pros and cons of each one, really. Thanks!

So it seems that AMD plans to launch Zen at CES 2017 ( 6-9 january ) , which should hopefully appease the people hoping to get the chips as soon as possible . Well at least it should launch very early in 2017 . Many of us were worried it would be arriving much later . that is , however , retail avaiability isn't certain . But i won't be getting a new cpu anytime soon anyway . AMD has put up a countdown for an official preview of the upcoming AMD CPU architecture. http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/new-horizon With many threads filled with rumours on the forum, it's nice to see some answers coming very soon. Hopefully we will get a great chip, that makes AMD competitive on the CPU market again. Choice is great for consumers, and right now our choices sucks compared to the pricing. I can't wait to see what is in store.

Hey Guys, I am looking into upgrading my rig with a new Ryzen 3xxx CPU, just like many of you are I will be most likely buying the 3700X and I would like to get the most out of PBO. Currently I am looking at the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, but I am not sure if the VRMs are good enough to handle the 8-Core overclocked. If they aren't, would the X470 GPC be a better choice? Do you have some sleek alternatives? Thank you guys!

I found a Ryzen 3 1200 on Amazon for $67. I know it's early, but there shouldn't be any issues using this CPU to flash B450i motherboards for Zen 2, correct? I'm specifically looking at the ASUS and Gigabyte iTX boards for this. And I don't want to pull the 2600 out of my kid's computer constantly for my client builds.

Hi all! I just built my friend a new gaming PC with a Ryzen 5 3600. We are using an Asrock B450m pro 4 motherboard. I was worried about the compatibility, but it claims to be Ryzen gen 3 compatible. We booted into windows (brand new install) and it worked fine for a few minutes then a BSOD, error code WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. With each reboot it now does this almost instantly. I booted into safe mode, but to no avail. I tried reseating the ram, sata ports and power, and flashing to the latest BIOS. I did notice something peculiar after booting that first time, which was the temps. The first two cores were normal, around 30 and 40 degrees. However the other 4 cores were reporting about 80, 90, 20 and most strangely, -20. We also got him a brand new SSD, which is what the crashing windows install is on. However, we booted up to his old and bloated hard drive and it didn't crash! We left it up for 30 minutes and it was fine, whereas on the other install it would crash within 5, usually almost instantly. Knowing this, I thought that it might be a windows update issue, because my USB install media was pretty dated. I made a fresh ISO and reinstalled but that didn't work either. I'm kind of at a loss here, thinking maybe I've just got a bad SSD. Do you guys have any thoughts?

Hi! I just received my ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F and i noticed that is has a 8 pin + 4 pin power connection for the CPU, my PSU (A Corsair RM750x) only has the 8 pin connector. Now the manual does say that the 4 pin is optional but i worry about overclocking. Is it worth going for a new PSU? I have used a 4770k at 4,4Ghz before i went for the 3700x and that was always stable with the overclock ( i changed the voltage a bit but i don't remember how much) Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I am very confused. I am looking at the MSI QVL for the board I am thinking of buying to find out which memory would go well with it. The board is the B450 Gaming plus Max (QVL: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-GAMING-PLUS-MAX#support-mem-19). I'm not sure I understand what the 1|2|4 Dimm stands for, does it mean if it only is checked for 1 and 2 Dimms that it won't work (at the reported speed) with 4 Dimms? I want to start of with 16GBs and then expand to 32 if needed (Blender and gaming, possible Unity) Also I am now looking at this GSkill Aegis set since it's relatively cheap, it's present in the QVL and, if I do understand the check-marks correctly, can be used with 4 modules. Is it worth spending about 25 euros more on 3200MHz RAM? Will be using it with a Ryzen 5 3600 to replace a 1231V3 with 16GB DDR3@1600MHz. Thanks

I'm trying to upgrade some hardware components on my Zen AIO 27 UHD. I am reluctant to entirely dismantle the machine, and I'm not very trusting of the systems identification of its own hardware. I believe some of the hardware was made specifically for this computer. At this point I can't even confidently identify where the ram is located to find the proper form factor. Apparently this model was not very popular because there is absolutely zilch online reguarding upgrades to this platform. If you can help me in anyway i would greatly appreciate it!!

I cannot seem to overclock over 4ghz with any reasonable voltage. Running at 4ghz requires over 1.35 volts for me, and trying for 4.1ghz has seen me pushing the voltage over 1.425 with it still crashing in Cinebench R20, even though it will pass in Ryzen Master. I had a stable 1.325 at 4ghz, however, after a few hours of The Forest was not stable in Cinebench and crashed. Any suggestions? Heat is not an issue if temps are being recorded correctly. Using a B450 Gigabyte board.

AMD looks to be keeping the pressure on Intel with many reports saying we could see 5nm chips based on their Zen 4 Architecture by 2021. This going in hand with their constant increase in core count will likely continue their current domination in the workstation and server space. All of this is just more bad news for Intel who is expected to have 7nm by 2022 maybe? Hello, I'm planning on building a PC (once I get sufficient funds) that's going to use a Ryzen 2600. Is it possible to use a B350 mothrrboard instead of a B450 ir an X470 motherboard? I've heard that you'd need a regular Zen CPU to install the BIOS for the Zen+ to work. Is this true? How would I flash the BIOS? Is it possible to contact AMD and get a low-end AM4 CPU to do it? Please help. Tell me if you need me to clarify.

Looks like next gen Ryzen won't be here for a while Bois The only info we really got was a Cinemark score of it competing with the i9 9900k, and beating it! So I got a MSI B350 PC MATE for about 30$ used, and I ordered a Ryzen 2600 and was told the B350 may or may not be updated. Will AMD send a bootkit for me if I have a used motherboard, or will I have to buy a CPU and resell it after? And if so, what CPU is best for that? I don't know what CPUs will work out of the box and what is cheapest. Thanks in advance!

I have a problem with running OS X Mojave on Virtualbox with a Zen 2 CPU. I'm certain I've once run a macOS VM (although not Mojave) on this CPU, but can't get it to work again. Using the classic - VBoxManage modifyvm "machine" --cpu-profile "Intel Core i7–6700K" makes Virtualbox give the Critical Error. Running the VM without this command just makes it hang at End RandomSeed. Does anyone have a solution, or is running Mojave under Virutalbox on Zen 2 a lost cause? I'd quite like to keep the image vanilla, to know it's not compromised. The image I use is created on my MacBook and it boots fine on the Mac just not when I transfer it. -

Hey so like many I am planning to get a Zen 3 chip to pair with my 3080 and am therefore in the market for a X570 board. I know that AMD have confirmed that X570 will work with Zen 3 but just wondering if a BIOS update would be needed and for that an older Ryzen chip? This is going to be a fresh build so I don't have an older Ryzen chip from an older system. Cheers

I'm thinking about buying the 2300X when it comes out. Does zen+ has better OC performance on average than zen since it's 12nm instead of 14nm? I know that theoretically thermal output/core should be lower and therefore less cooling is needed for the same frequency but it doesn't feel to me like it matters in practice.

Hello,I have brand new configuration - GSKILL Ripjaws IV 3200MHz 2x4, Ryzen 2600 in combination with MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon. (Ripjaws IV is 99% same as Ripjaws V btw) https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c16d-8grbProblem is I can't get the system stable even with RAM memory on 2800MHz 1.36V and stock 16-18-18-38 timings. Using stock bios settings which include 2133MHz I can get it run stable under Aida64 system memory test and without BSOD. Now I'm running Aida64 stress test at 2666MHz and I think it will be stabe because it is not crashing for now... Anything above that crash after a minute or two in Aida64 memory stress test or I have BSOD under gaming, browsing the internet etc. I have latest bios which includes Agesa 1.0.0.2. I also tried beta 1.0.0.4 but noting is improved in terms of memory frequency and stability.I did not buy the first gen Ryzen for a reason. I paid premium price for 3200MHz RAM and Ryzen 2nd gen here in Europe because 'it should' handle the memory better, and I can't even get it to run stable after all... What do you guys think?
