I just got a Vive wireless for Christmas and hooked it all up. I can play games, but I get a disconnect randomly within the first 1-2 minutes of playing a game. I reconnects withing 5-10 seconds and so far seems like it won't disconnect again after that. I haven't tried hopping from game to game before resetting steam vr to see if it disconnects once per a game yet. I can hear the computer loosing connecting to the headset and other components once it goes grey. Then It makes all the reconnecting sounds and after 5ish seconds I can see again. The screen usually goes grey for the first 1-2 seconds and then it goes black until it reconnects. Is there a specific reason this could happen? I have changed the connection channel to 2 and 3 but I didn't get any difference. All the Vive firmware is up to date and my GPU drivers are up to date also. Can someone help me troubleshoot this?

Hi All, So basically, I plan to develop an environment for a college project, and want to make it into a VR experience. I've had experience with Google Daydream and such and want to move into the HTC and Oculus world. Which do you think is better? Oculus Rift or HTC Vive? I plan to build the world in Unity. I know its pretty simple to set it up in Unity (cameras and controls), but I'm not 100% sure quality wise which is better? I'm not to crazy about the controllers on the Oculus Rift.. They're kind of weird.. But in any case, has anybody had any experience with either? Which is better? Cheers, Steve

I was wondering if it is a good idea to buy a rift (or maybe a vive) this black friday? Would there be a good deal on eather headset and is there going to be another PC rift (not standalone) headset any time soon? Thanks in advance for the responses.

Source: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1508356684 If you are into VR tech I highly recommend reading this but I will try to summarise some of the main details below A post was recently put on steam by Lawrence at Valve. It contained exciting new details of valves shiny new VR controllers. EV3 brings many improvements over EV2 with an improved strap, a stronger trigger spring and better reliability, a recessed system button (with the number of times I press the home button whilst playing games like beat saber, this is a much welcome improvement), increased battery life now lasting up to 8 hours to name a few. EV3 will be produced in "much greater quantities than EV2" and they will be sending out more kits to developers so maybe we will be seeing these controllers come to marked very soon!

During some rough housing one of the lighthouses in my apartment was knocked to the group and took a pretty hard hit. Initially there were some bugs in tracking but it still worked like 90%. Unfortunately the tracking problem has progressed to the point where standing still my model moves 5 to 15 meters in any given direction. Is there anyway to diagnose the issue to double check if its my lighthouse to blame? More importantly, do I need to drop another $200 on a new lighthouse?

Hey all, I've upgraded my PC with a GTX 1080 from a 1070 (renewed MC 2 year warranty, waiting for 1180's to come out to return and upgrade lol), and I've been testing Project Cars 2 with my Vive. First things first, I'm not TOO TOO experienced in knowing what's what in terms of VR reprojection or ASW, etc.. but I do understand graphics settings and Supersampling etc. Anyways, everything runs very well, but I'm seeing on my monitor while playing VR, my framerate is 90 FPS in the main menu but then it drops down to 45 FPS during gameplay! Now, I've done some research and see that a majority of people are experiencing the same thing. I won't say that performance is degraded because things run pretty smooth.. however, I still don't get the 45 FPS.. I've adjusted settings according to the following link (which is with a 7700K and GTX 1070), and I still get 45 FPS (4790K and GTX 1080)!! Regardless if my supersampling is 1.0 or 1.5, the FPS is the same (except for highest settings, then FPS range is between 42 and 45 FPS. Link: The settings changed were both in-game and NVIDIA control panel specifically for this game.. I don't get it. Any ideas??

Just wanted an opinion from you guys. I have the chance to purchase a new Samsung Odyssey WMR for $375 right now. Normal retail is $499. Given that price, is it one of the best VR options? I'm looking to get started in VR for gaming but fear the WMR headsets and their compatibility with steam VR. In a perfect world I would just get the Vive pro but I don't have light boxes or controllers so that HMD and bundle would set me back $1100 which I'm not willing to spend. I have a 1080ti so I know I can push the pixels. Is the Samsung Odyssey still one of the best VR experiences or does the WMR platform ruin the experience? Im sold on the hardware of the Odyssey and definitely the price, but am totally unsure of the software support for gaming. Should I wait until this Holiday season for perhaps a new Vive bundle? Will a possible new Vive bundle be worth it then?maybe Just looking for advice here.

So I recently bought a second hand EVGA GTX 1070 SC Black and a brand new HTC Vive, and installed Windows 10 Pro. I downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia drivers 391.35. I ran Unigen Heaven at 1440p at Ultra settings, and 8x anti-aliasing and the graphics card held a steady 100+fps while maintaining a temperature in the high 70s low 80s. I also ran the SteamVR Ready test, and my system passed with flying colours. Now, my system is only there for me to play in VR. Both "The Lab" and "Nvidia Funhouse" both run properly and very well. However, for both "Rec Room" and "Raygun Commando" crash mid game, at approximately the same scene. I think crashing for games is fine... but what happens is that the Vive screen goes black (fine, thats okay), AND my main monitor goes black... there's still sound, but eventually my computer reboots. When I log back in, I get treated with the "Display Driver failed to start, using Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead" message. I've tried removing (completely) the Nvidia drivers and then reinstalling them... didn't work. Disable Windows real-time protection... kinda let "Rec Room" run a bit more... but when I rebooted to test if it was actually my disabling that let it run, it wasn't... Could anyone help me out? Edit: I'm reinstalling Windows from scratch, but with Windows 10 Home. Oh, and I haven't activated Windows, because I hear the only thing missing is personalisation features.

This post is purely theoretical. So being a Vive owner and watching Linus' invisible VR build with Oculus I started thinking about what benefits the vive has over Oculus. The most obvious one i've heard people say is for Oculus to have 360 room scale it needs 3 cameras which require 3 usb ports unlike the vive which does the same amount of work with only one port. This got me thinking, since you have more available ports could you use a single rig (one motherboard) have multiple vives hooked into it (assuming you have the space)? And if so how many vives could you fit? This rig would probably have to run virtual machines and have a dedicated graphics card for each vive but it should be possible right? I remember going to VRLA and seeing a Vive "Cube" where 4 vive play spaces were set up in a square but each vive had its own system to run it. I also thought maybe this could be a cool build Linus could do like 7 Gamers, 1 CPU

So here is my dilemma, I have a nice VR capable rig but do not own any VR equipment. Which is better, an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive (Pro)? Would it be more fun to just buy a Nintendo Switch instead? I do not have the space for a full VR room experience and would use either while seated. Are there any fun (non gimmicky) games? I dont want to buy a VR headset and a Switch, but want to choose one... I know its like comparing Apples ? to pizza ? at this point but I'd like to hear/read some thoughts

So i was wondering how i can run vr and have it show up on a monitor?

Hi, first of all, i didnt know where to post this, so if i'm in the wrong category im sorry. But now to my question. I am going to buy a htc vive next month and just thought about it using a hdmi cable. As my Graphics Card (EVGA 980TI Superclocked 2.0) only has 1 hdmi, 1 dvi and 3 times displayport, i dont know how to connect my vive to my computer. I have 2 Monitors, The first one is connected with hdmi, the second one with dvi. (none of them has dp) So now i have some kind of a problem. I dont know how i am supposed to use the vive without a free hdmi port. And i dont think it's a good idea to plug in, plug out all the time. And now to my actual question. Would it be a problem (perfomance) if i just bought an hdmi-displayport adapter and use it that way, or would that decrease performance of the vive, or anything else?

I could hardly believe it when sorting by reviews on steam and saw that Beat Saber, an early access VR game, is the top reviewed game on steam. I feel like this game might be the one to finally give VR the kick it needs for mass adoption. I think this will be the biggest VR game to date and I don't think it will be close. https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Reviews_DESC&category1=998%2C996

I wanted to buy a vive used but it dosent come with controllers. Where could I get some cheap, instead of the 130$ for 1.

Will overclocking the BCLK improve the performance of VR USB devices such as Oculus sensors? This question has been nagging at me in the back of my mind. I know that overclocking from the BCLK technically overclocks your whole system even your USB controllers.. so I'm wondering if that'd hurt or improve the performance of high bandwidth USB devices such as Oculus sensors with motherboards that are on the low end of supporting them like maybe an 1150 socket motherboard with regular USB 3.0. Just for the sake of science I'm wondering. Has anyone tested this? Even if not, what are your thoughts? It wouldn't be something that's necessary as you can just buy a USB card in that situation, but I'm debating on whether or not I should do an experiment with this.

Hi everyone, I would like to set up my living room as a VR room, the plan is to keep my PC in my bedroom. To avoid putting multiple cables into the wall (2 usb 3.0, 2 Cat6 for HDMI, or a single DP cable) what if I get a Shield and connect my Vive's Link box to it, can it work? The only cable the Shield gets is a single Cat6 from my router. If this idea is a total disaster, how can I possibly extend 2 HDMI 2.0 or 2 DP 1.4 and 2 USB 3.0 through 20m (65ft), without spending 1000$ on FC transmitters? Okay, active cables, but can I bend a 10cm (5in) piece in 90° for the corners? Thanks for the replys, Lago

Every time I see a VR discussion of if someone should buy an Oculus or Vive, I always see people claiming that the rift doesn't have roomscale. It's had roomscale for like 2 years. Ever since touch released. In fact, it's pretty much the same size playspace too. Around 12x12 feet with 3 sensors and about 14x14 with 4 maybe a bit more. That's not counting expanding the playspace to the point where the tracking gets bad of course for either one. They're pretty much the same. I don't get all of the Oculus versus Vive stuff. They're both awesome, but this one just makes me want to:

Buy HTC Vive Pro on Amazon: http://geni.us/YXauV Buy OG HTC Vive on Amazon: http://geni.us/EwuLcaS Is the Vive Pro the next amazing step forward in consumer VR? Unfortunately we think not...

Hiya i'm contemplating getting a VR headset and not sure which rout to go. At the moment a new rift with controllers and sensors is about the same price as a second hand Vive with controllers and sensors,or £200 more new. Is the Vive worth getting second hand or the extra money over the Rift

I just hopped on the Windows mixed reality bandwagon (only for $150 its a steal)and every time I go to launch the lab in Steam the game crashes and steam says the game is unresponsive but the headset and controllers are connected. What am I doing wrong

I ordered an oculus rift w/ touch controllers and 2 sensors and am expecting them to arrive today or tomorrow. I am looking for any good free or paid games for oculus, from oculus store, steam, or mods. Touch supported games preferred except racing games are an exception ofcourse . Favorite genres: Racing, stealth, FPS, horror, RPG. Feel free to suggest me anything and tell me your experience with the game. Thanks in advance! - Henrik

Source: https://overclock3d.net/news/gpu_displays/htc_announces_their_vive_pro_vr_headset/1 HTC has just announced their new VR Headset, the Vive Pro. This is an updated version of one of the 2 main VR headsets with some upgrades/updates. Featuring: A Lighter Body New Strap Design Uses SteamVR tracking 2.0, which is compatible with SteamVR tracking 1.0 Built-in Headphones - so no need for the Audio Headset Strap like the Vive 1 And new screen resolutions of 1440x1600 per eye, 2880x1600 in total. The last point I think is massive since it has an increase of 78% screen resolution compared to the original Vive. HTC have said that they aim to be selling this device alongside the current model, so I assume this is not a replacement for the Vive, Much like the Xbox One and One X, both play XBox One games - just one can do so with more features. What is interesting to note from this is HTC will be creating their own Wireless headset adapter to be released later this year, based on Intel's WiGig technology. If you wish to upgrade from a fully working Vive set-up, you can do as the HMD can be available separately as a stand-alone purchase, or as a kit if the full set-up is needed. Currently, the price and availability are unknown. My thoughts? It looks impressive. The article says lighter design, I would like to know the entire weight, and the increase in screen resolution is nice. However, since HTC said they will be selling this alongside the original Vive, I assume this is a step up model - much like the iPhone 7 & X, as such, I'm a bit scared of the price, especially since pricing for VR headsets are still quite steep and is one of the biggest obstacles in getting VR mainstream. Your thoughts- please leave them down below!
