So i have been trying for days to play the torrented LSW:Complete Saga but nothing seems to work. On my windows 10 the app starts then immediately goes black and exits. So i tried to run it in compatibility mode with all settings on lowest in XP with no success. Then finally i installed an VirtualBox Windows XP and Windows 7 but now i get an error ''Sorry but your machine is unable to play this game. It requires a graphics card that support Pixel Shaders v1.1.'' I installed directx 9 but i still can't get it to work. I have a gtx 1080 if that helps. I need to get this worked out while my younger brother is still interested so i would very much appreciate anyone's help.

Hey guys, The last couple of days I’ve spent some time getting familiar with VirtualBox, Ubuntu etc since I’m setting up my first home server! I’ve successfully installed a couple of Ubuntu versions and started to use the terminal. I’m somewhat familiar with SSH / PuTTY and I can follow YT tutorials, but I’m a Linux n00b. First few days was painful, but im starting to like Linux:) Server use cases: NAS (FreeNAS?) Plex Media server NextCloud LAMP / Web server to run a wordpress website. This is mostly for testing, learning and setting up a simple home server. I would like to have a dedicated web server in the future. OS & VM: Windows 10 + VirtualBox Im currently running VirtualBox on Win10 (not activated yet). I haven’t testes out Hyper-V or VMWare yet, will probably do so in the future. Ubuntu 18 as VM. Hard drives: 128GB Samsung SSD being used for OS atm. (Bought used). 128GB x2 Kingston SSDs arriving soon in the mail (bought used also), for OS. I’m thinking RAID1. 500GB Maxtor 500GB Toshiba 200GB x2 WD 1TB WD drive - temporary media drive while testing. It will be replaced with a 8-16TB HDDs in the near future. 1TB WD drive that’s in a working WD MyBook Live NAS that is was thinking to have as a separate physical NAS inside the computer case, using a Ethernet cable since I’m using up all 6 SATA ports on my motherboard (needs to be changed out in the future + a SATA expansions card or raid controller maybe?) Some of the questions I have: Should I use the spare 128GB Samsung SSD for NextCloud, and setup auto backup to one of the old 200GB WD drives? Should I have a separate VM with Ubuntu for the NAS and Plex, or could both run in the same VM, in the same or two different Docker containers? Should I have all the VirtualBox machines on the OS SSD, and the NextCloud Virtual Disk Image on a separate SSD to not eat up the free space on the OS drive? What should I have in mind when setting up FreeNAS to let both Plex and NextCloud use the same hard drives, or is it better to set them up in separate VMs with their own HDDs? What HDD would you recommend for a NAS and Plex, someting like 10GB WD RED Pro or 16GB Seagate IronWolf Pro? I would start with one drive then add another of the same type for RAID1, then expand with more ini the future as needed. How important is to have ECC RAM? I would be using it to beging with but Im consider upgrading it later on. I’m hoping that somebody can send me in the right direction, so that I get the correct foundation / structure for the server. Thanks for all the help!

I'm trying to access qBittorrent's web UI from another PC on the same network, but qBittorrent is running inside a Linux VM, so it doesn't just work like it normally would. It's something to do with how the network works inside the VM, and I'm trying to access the web UI from a PC outside of the VM. I'm guessing it's something to do with port forwarding/proxy? Here's some numbers. HOST: Windows 10 Home (1903) VIRTUALMACHINE: Oracle VirtualBox (6.1.4 r136177) VM OS: Lubuntu (18.04) Running qBittorrent (v.4.0.3) AND PIA VPN (v.1.8) Trying to access the web UI from another PC on my home network doesn't work as you can see on the right side of the photo. Whereas it works as expected within the VM on the left. Anyone know how to get this working? (I don't need it to be remote, just simply want to access it when I'm at home).

Hi I'm hoping someone's come across this issue before and can help point me in the right direction as I'm a bit stuck. My current gaming/workstation rig has an i7-6850 and I've used it for many years without a hitch. But it's due an upgrade and so I'm moving to Team Red with a 3rd gen R9 CPU and Mobo. I customise my systems quite a lot, but I want to do a fresh install for the AMD platform. So the plan was to image my boot partition (100Gb) and then port it to VirtualBox so I can fire it up whenever I want to refer to the old install then trash the old VM after 6 months or so. I've tested it so far by: 1. In Windows, create a 100Gb VHD File/Drive 2. Use Macrium Reflect to create the .mrimg image 3. Use Macruim to restore the image to the new windows VHD drive/file from (1) 4. Unmount the VHD File/Drive 5. Attaching it to a new VirtualBox Machine set up as my "snapshot" 6. Start the VM with Networking off to prevent a DHCP conflict On my i7 machine it boots up and runs no problem, but when I try it on an AMD PC I have, it fails to run. (3rd Gen R7 CPU) I'm getting BSOD on boot-up with: AsiO.sys But it does start up in safe-mode + networking In my mind this points to drivers, but I don't know which drivers it's looking for or if it's because of the AMD Chipset and in which case how to get AMD drivers installed. Any advise welcome.

1st thing 1st I think this thread is in the right sub-forum, if its not I apologise. *waves frantically at Linus and Luke* Hello there guys, this is my first post. I'm a long time fan of LMG, and I have used the forums a few times to find help and advice. But this time I just can't find what I need, I think my Google-Fu is not strong enough. HISTORY I will start here. Until recently I, like every respectable geek, had 2 main PCs. The gaming rig and the server. Rig 1 - Day 2 day, Gaming, etc Windows 10 SSD - Windows SSD - Games HDD - #Stuffdrive Rig 2 - Media + Backup Server LIAN LI PCB70B Ubuntu 9 HDDs 1 - 500Gb - Ubuntu install and main downloads/sort + dump folders 8 - BtrFS - 1-3Tb - Backups, Media, Music, everything This way I had full network access to my entire library, all of my backups, and everything. Backups are run from within Windows and stored on the server. I use Kodi for the media centre on both PCs. BtrFS was NOT setup in a pool (im just not that good) but i used it primarily for the built in compression, and long term data storage benefits. My plan is to eventually upgrade the server to an UnRaid box and fully utilise its abilities. Recently my life situation changed. I am living with friends and having 2 PCs running is out of the question. THE PLAN Consolidate both PCs in to the Lian Li Tower case from my server. There is more room, for all the HDD's, and cooling for everything. Plus it has a hefty 1200w PSU. Run the rig as if it were still the main Windows gaming rig. Virtualise my entire Ubuntu server inside VirtualBox. This way all of my full setup will still be accessible. Everything over "the network", and the least amount of configuration (Inside the Ubuntu server at least) Run my PC as normal, but when I want to use the server, I just run the VBox VM, and crack on as normal. Or have it auto-boot with Windows. THE PROBLEM HOW DO I DO THIS? All the drives from the server (ex Ubuntu) are formatted in BtrFS, Windows doesn't work with updated, fun, decent, future looking File Formats such as BtrFS. So I think that as i'm not going to be accessing any of these drives from Windows itself, I should be able to use some form of hardware pass-through for the server drives, directly into the VM. I've been trying my hand at Google-Fu combined with my own knowledge, I know I should be able to do it, with either the "Serial Ports" feature or through CMD using "VBoxManage" but I don't know how. I could play around with this, but last time I did such a thing, I wiped the encryption headers from a 3Tb drive. (Don't do trial and error without sleep people!) THE ASK Can anyone out there help me with this? I know it should be doable. I know what I want + need Re-build my rig into my Lian Li case Connect ALL drives Not a problem I have enough SATA ports on my Mobo + HBA card. Build Ubuntu server in VBox. With the help of a dd img backup. (This I already have a guide for) Connect all server drives to the VBox server. Profit Wouldn't this make a great video for luke?

I am a student in college (not a very good one, thus why I'm here asking for help) and I will eventually be in classes where I will need VMware, but that is at least a couple of years out. Currently, I have no experience using virtual machines, but I'm in some development classes that I believe would be improved if I could host XAMPP locally in order to test my php/perl scripting without having to upload it to the student server (which is time consuming during scripting/debugging), so I've concluded that it would probably be best to set up virtual machine capabilities in order to install XAMPP (on Linux, in a VM). I don't have any experience doing any of this, but I think I can figure it out. What I'm wanting to know is which Virtual Machine software suite is most similar to VMware, but FREE, since I really need to learn VMware, but I can't afford it currently (even with the student discount). I don't want to learn a program that will make learning VMware more difficult due to the need to "unlearn" things that operate completely differently, so I'm trying to get whatever free VM software is the closest to VMware in usability/UI. What would serve my needs best? Virtual Box? Hyper-V? Something else? I'd like to stress that I have zero experience with any of this, and I'm just going by what I could find using google search. Am I over-complicating this? I tend to do that. To be clear: I'd like to be able to run php and perl locally on my PC (Windows 10, 64 bit) so that I do not have to upload my webpages that include server-side scripting to the server to see if they work because it is very time-consuming.

Hello, I'm setting up an OS X 10.11 VM in VirtualBox but I'm having issues with booting it up. I followed this guide for doing it and used the vm image that came with it. I'm using version 5.1.14 r112924 of VirtualBox. When I hit startup, the vm window appears and it seems to work fine, but while still displaying console text, it just stops and doesn't do anything at all, not even any hard drive use in the vm. Here's a screenshot from a bit after it stops: The line that looks the most important is the 3rd and 2nd last lines, but I am not very familiar with Mac OS so I'll leave the judgement to those that really know what they're doing. How can I solve this problem and get the OS properly working? Thanks for any help.

Macbook Air Running Microsoft Visual Studio
Macimoar posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I am planning a short trip where I'll be wanting to keep up with my unity development. I am flying so it would be somewhat inconvenient to have to take my desktop. Would my MacBook Air, base configuration nothing extra, be powerful enough to run Windows 10, Unity, and Visual Studio on a Virtual Box?- 3 replies

Hi, I have a problem with using ubuntu 16.04 and virtualbox running windows 10, I have installed the guest editions too. But the problem is I can't access my clipboard in either direction, no matter what setting I select... and also a more annoying problem is that I can't access ANY USB drives. I have tried (without success) to seelct USB drives before entering the VM, but nothing shows up no matter which USB version is selected. The drives themselves show up in ubuntu fine. I have tried looking for solutions to this problem, but maybe because I am not very well versed in the intricacies of linux I can't find a solution to either of these problems. Both virtualbox and the guest editions are the latest versions. Can anyone help me with this please? I have got a workaround to my problem for now, but it's convoluted and not feasible for long term usage, so hope someone can help, thanks

Hi, today I shared with a friend a virtual machine with Windows Server 2016, it has like 6 snapshots, I transferred him everything in the folder, when he created a new virtual machine on virtual box on his computer, using the VDI file that I shared him, snapshots didn't appear, then he went to VM settings and saw that snapshots directory was the one is by default, so we set the actual directory where the snapshots are but still we get no results. What do you think we should do? Thanks so much in advance and have a good night.

Hello, Can someone tell me how to access a terminal server VM from a remote workstation over VPN? The server is Windows 2012 with Virtual Box installed. AD DS is installed on the physical machine and the terminal server is a VM. The remote workstation needs a specific application that runs in the terminal server. The VPN enabled router will be something like a SonicWALL TZ300. Does the VPN client software see the terminal server on the network? How exactly do they connect? Thank you.

Remember when Linus did 7 gamers 1 CPU? Well I'm trying to do something similar, but mine is 2 gamers 1 CPU. I'm trying to set up virtual machines to run 2 instances of GTA V and/or Ark, so me and a friend can play at the same time. The problem is Virtualbox will not allow me to allocate more than 256mb of vram to a machine. So how the hell did Linus do it?

I'm trying to set up pfSense with VirtualBox. I have installed, but I can't set to the Web GUI. Not sure what all to include here to help troubleshoot, but here's a picture to show what I see in VirtualBox right now. Ask me any questions you need! The network adapters are setup with Adapter 1 running the real ethernet on Bridged Adapter [Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-V] and adapter 2 on Internal Network [intnet].

So, I'm running a AMD FX-4350 @4.20GHz, 8GB of ram, a GTX 980ti, and Windows 10 Pro, and I've been trying to create a OSX Mavericks VM on VirtualBox for a while now and no matter what I try to do to get it to work I just keep getting the Guru Meditation error message. I have the VM set to use 2 cores, 2gb of ram, and 16mb of vram. VBox.log

Hello! I have a problem, and many have asked this before but, why is performance in VMware (or any virtualization software) so bad? Everybody I have found who ask this question is running hardware not capable of running VMs, but my hardware should be capable of it. All OS's have this bad performance, but especially Windows 10 is bad. Choppy animations and slow performance in general. VMware tools are always insalled. The machine was dedicated 4 cores and 6 GB of RAM. This is always the case with all VMs. Core i7 4790K, 16 GB of RAM, GTX 770, host is Windows 7 running VMware 12.5.

Hello all, I recently upgraded my WIndows 10 and before I started using Hyper-V, I used virtualbox for my school assignments. But when I installed hyper-v onto Windows 10, everytime I start a virtual machine from Virtualbox, the Windows crashes and go to bsod, so when I turned off hyper-v again, it works fine. anyone explain to me how is this happening? To be honest, I don't necessarily need to run Hyper-V but I could need it for school assignment in the future, but if this issue persists, I won't be able to do what I want..lol Thanks for replies

So i currently have a macbook pro as my daily and it has been for the past 5 years (not to mention the fact that before that I had been all apple for a really long time). And my goal is to run an OSX (el captain or sierra) VM on my new alienware 13 that I have coming in. The trick here is that I would like to find a way to take my current OSX with all of my apps and files and transfer it over to a virtual machine (willing to run any free or reasonably priced virtualization software such as virtualbox, vmware, hyper-v, etc...) I have read people trying to do this with time machine and then restoring from time machine which doesnt exactly seem to work all the time. Of course apple makes this really easy when you buy a macbook they have a tool to transfer everything over wifi to the new computer but that doesn't seem to work either. Any help would be awesome.

Some backstory: I had a laptop for school, but it broke beyond repair and I don't currently have the money for a new one. However, I did get a Pixel C Android tablet with the keyboard and have been using that as a laptop replacement. IT works perfectly fine for taking notes and such, but being in the Computer Science field, I'm pretty limited (I've been using the school's lab computers for IDE's and programming while I'm not at home with my desktop). This was normally OK until I started taking a Unix course and a Web App development course, which both use Linux. To make a long story short, I can't run a VM of Linux on the tablet, so I've resorted to connecting to my desktop through the Chrome Remote Desktop app, and then running my VirtualBox VM there. As you can imagine, it's painfully slow. IS there a way I can set up my tablet to remotely connect to the VirtualBox VM I have instead of through Chrome Remote Desktop and then running the VM? Would it be faster or slower than what I'm currently doing?

Am trying to install a Fedora26-GNOME iso in VirtualBox on my relatively new Windows 10 machine and keep running into this obnoxious boot error: boot_image = vmlinuz crashed At this point I am not evening getting that warning anymore, just a blank black screen in the VB Guest window. What is further annoying is that the Fedora26-Cinnamon spin seems to work just fine in VirtualBox, as do the latest versions of OpenSUSE, Scientific Linux and some Ubuntu spins. So I don't think it is specifically VirtualBox nor the Linux Kernel being shipped with Fedora26. But I don't know enough about the guts of linux distros to diagnose it further than that.

Hi all! I have searched on the internet for a long time, but I still don't understand it: how does a virus in a virtual machine spread through NAT? Example: I have an 3 year old laptop on which I only use virtualbox to test viruses (for fun). The laptop is connected(wifi) to a router which on his turn connects to 3 other computers. The shared folder is set to read only and the virtual windows 10 get's it's internet connection from NAT. To the point: Is possible that a virus like wannacry escapes from the virtual windows 10, goes on the network and infects the other 3 computers? If that's possible, how the hell then? I thought NAT was a virtual connection. I hope you guys can help me. I apologize for my terrible English.
