Hello folks, I'm having a spot of trouble with a two monitor setup after installing a new graphics card. Both monitors worked perfectly on my old card (GTX 560 Ti) so I do not think they are broken. Upon initial installation of the graphics card I was a bit miffed at myself for not checking the I/O more carefully. The new card has DVI-D ports where as the old one had DVI-I ports. I used to use a passive connector on the old system and of course this did not and could not work with the new digital only system. I read around a bit and found out that you can buy an active converter to make this work 'apparently'. A thread on this forum was rather helpful (thanks @Glenwing): So I purchased a seemingly reputable converter in the hopes of smoothing out my problem. Much cheaper than buying a new monitor. I know my VGA only monitor is out of date but, in a word, money. My first monitor works fine via HDMI as expected but my second monitor does not (black screen; no input). The second monitor does appear to be detected even if it does not display anything. Windows shows two monitors in Run > desk.cpl, and I can see it in device manager (are these both remnants perhaps?). My setup: OS: Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393. Graphics card: GTX 1060 Gigabyte 6GB. Driver version 21.21.13.7653. Monitor 1: ASUS VN247H 23.6-inch Widescreen LED Multimedia Monitor (1920 x 1080, 1 ms, 2x HDMI, VGA, Full HD 1080p, Super Narrow Frame) Connection for monitor 1: HDMI output from card, HDMI input to screen. Monitor 2: Fujitsu Siemens AMILO LL 3220T. Connection for monitor 2: DVI-D output from card through an active converter for DVI-D to VGA, VGA input to screen. Amazon link for the converter: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-DVI-D-Female-Converter-Display/dp/B01G05RWPO/ I was hoping this would work 'out of the box'. Alas, it appears to not work. I found this thread, which seems to have the same problem but I am confused by the comments. @dewman45 seems to suggest that VGA just will not work with a 1060 but goes on to say that an active converter might work? My thoughts: No-go, too modern GPU with too old screen: RIP. Bad converter? Could work with a more involved converting system but at that point it's probably time to buy a new monitor. Does anyone have any input (haha) on my problem? Thanks in advance, Henduil

Hi, I don't know if this is the correct subforum but lets hope so. I found an older monitor that only has VGA input and I wanted to use it as a secondary display. The problem I have is that the resolution is quite low for what I'm trying to achieve and DSR is not supported over analog outputs (I'm using a 970). My question is, could I use a Displayport to VGA adapter to enable DSR? I have not found any topics on this specific use case, so I wondered if someone tried something like this or if someone has enough knowledge to let me know if this would even work.

Hi there, I was exiting a game where I was met by message. I didn't read this message because im a ********, but it made the monitor attached to my laptop lose picture and say 'input not supported' Im pretty sure from some research its resolution. But in every case, when I plug in the VGA cable it shuts off the laptop screen and just displays that message on the other, so I cant change it that way... Ive tried Safe mode with low rez and that didn't fix it either. Also all the assorted intel graphics stuff to my knowledge. Any ideas? Thank you! Carl

Ok, im going to be upgrading my graphics card, from 2x GTX 980 SLI to 1 GTX1080 ti. I'm done with SLI when it works its great but most games SLI dos not work or no benefit or cause problems. It is just not worth it in my opinion. So the problem I see is what do I do with the power cables from the 2ed card? I don't know what I'm doing, when I got my computer I had Canada Computers build it for me. I also notice the that Evga GTX 1080 TI FTW3 card needs two 8-pin connectors then one on the 980 has a 6-pin and an 8-pin connector what do I do about that? Hope someone can help, Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

So I bought a DisplayPort to VGA adapter a while ago (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=1DH-003U-00004) I think it's that one, and I'm only now using it with my ASUS 1070 and my second monitor (which is just an older TV) and while my computer recognizes that it's there, the monitor only says "Not Supported" The monitor works just fine with HDMI, but I'm using it for my PS4 which is why I need the adapter, and it previously worked just fine with a VGA connection on my old GT 420. Any ideas?

I bought a GTX 1050Ti today, specifically an MSI Afterburner 4GB OC Version with Dual Fans. I brought it home super happy cause I've been waiting for an upgrade for years. Then I found out that the VGA to DVI-D converter I bought doesn't work (my monitor is an Acer V206HQL and its maximum resolution is 1600X900). My monitor keeps saying "Cable not Found". I Googled the problem and found that for the newer Nvidia cards, one needs an active converter, preferably a VGA-HDMI one. Can anyone please shed more light on this? What type of converter should I buy? I don't know if this piece of information will help but I tried using the newly bought converter with my old R7 260X 1GB and still it showed "Cable not Found". However, the 260X uses a DVI-I connector and the converter was DVI-D. I assumed that the monitor couldn't output anything because of that discrepancy but I could be wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey guys! My system has an EVGA SuperNova 650 G2 for the PSU. While building my rig I intended on buying a second GPU later on. I currently have one EVGA GTX 1070 FTW. A 650 watt is more then enough power for two 1070s. Small hitch though... My GPU needs two 8 pin connectors. The 650 G2 only has two VGA ports which have one 8 pin, and one 6 pin each. Is it RIP SLI or are there any solutions for me Thanks guys, Eric

I have two desktop PCs running Windows 10 Pro. I have two monitors which have two inputs, HDMI and VGA. I have my primary PC connected to both monitors, the primary monitor runs HDMI from the PC to HDMI to the monitor (the cable is HDMI both ends), the secondary monitor runs DVI from the PC to HDMI to the monitor (cable is DVI one end and HDMI on the other). Each monitor has an input switch to switch from VGA to HDMI channels (the input button). On the secondary monitor it stays on the HDMI channel all the time, since that is its only job. The primary monitor has the second PC hooked up to it as well, VGA from the PC to VGA on the monitor. I have been using the input switch to switch from the HDMI channel (primary PC) to the VGA channel (the secondary PC) on the primary monitor. It was working great. Then I installed a graphics card (an XFX AMD RX 480), and now when I hit the input button on the primary monitor, it goes to the second PC as expected, but when I hit the input button to switch back to the primary PC, it doesn't detect the signal anymore. I have to either unplug the cable from the graphics card and plug it back in, or hit win+P and select "extend display" to make it comes back (this, however, causes all my desktop icons to be rearranged every single time, so it is very unusable). HOWEVER, this is only when the second PC is ON, when the second PC is OFF, the input button still works fine, I can switch to the VGA channel and back with no problem. I am running DisplayFusion to customize the taskbar on the secondary monitor and add some pop/resize functions to my explorer windows, but I do not use DisplayFusion to manage the monitor setup (I use the built in Windows tool to manage my secondary display). This problem is VERY annoying, as it has made my formerly working set up totally inconvenient to use. When I go into the AMD control panel, it does have a section called Display, and it does offer to manage my monitors, but as far as I can tell I have everything turned off. That being said, something is definitely causing an issue in there, as it worked fine before I had a graphics card in the machine. What can I do to fix this?

So I brought a Belkin HDMI to VGA adapter a while back in hopes to plug in an old CRT I got for a build project of mine. And of course, I didn't do my homework before I brought it. So now here I am, turning on my finished build, and I get a broken mess of a picture on the CRT. (Hope you like the retro/modern computer combo setup I have going on. ) I plugged the CRT into a laptop VGA and everything checks out. After Googling, I found out that HDMI to VGA only works on passive adapters? Both monitors are plugged into my GTX 980 with the CRT using the adapter to go into HDMI and the secondary display going straight to DVI. So I guess I can't use the CRT as an additional display (at least not with HDMI). Any ideas on how to make this work? If not, the only other ports I have on my 980 are DisplayPort and DVI-I.

I'm working in my school's IT department and we recently received 35 Dell Optiplex 3050 in the small form factor. We quickly realized that we had a problem because nearly all of our monitors support VGA and some DVI while the 3050 only supports HDMI and DP. I brought up the idea of getting dedicated graphics with VGA supported, such as the GT 710 which currently go for a little over $40. This would be cheaper than buying new monitors with HDMI supported because most monitors start at least $100. The problem with the graphics card is that power supply might not be able to handle the load. Our version of the Optiplex 3050 only has 180 watts max. Would anybody be able to confirm if my GT 710 idea would work or be able to give alternate cheap options?

PICTURES ARE BELOW Basically this was my system before. Core 2 Duo 1 x 2gb DDR3 Biostar G41D3C motherboard generic Mini-ITX case some ATI video output card 320GB HDD This system acted as my Karaoke machine. There were two ports on the ATI video card (see pics), one VGA connector and one yellow AV input (i believe is composite cable). When i turn on the system, it would turn on my monitor (only 1 VGA port) and load WIndows XP then the Karaoke software. Then I would switch my TV (3 x HDMI, 1 x AV) to AV mode. After I choose a song on the monitor, it would display the music video on the screen and via the audio cable from the PC to my amplifier then to the speakers. The music would thus play on the speakers. Now my ATI video card is spoiled. The video output would be totally corrupted. Here is the list of SPARE parts I currently have: 1 x MSI GeForce 210 graphics card (fully working) 1 x Zotac GTX 970 graphics card (fully working) 1 x HDMI to AV connector (fully working) 1 x Full screwdriver set 1 x Intel Core i7 3770 processor 1 x Intel Core i5 750 processor 1 x AcBel 400W power supply 1 x WD 1TB Caviar Black HDD 1 x Sandisk 16GB USB drive 1 x dual Molex to 6 pin connector 2 x Team Elite DDR3 2GB modules 1 x HDMI cable (fully working) 1 x male to male FULL AV input cable 1 x Cooler Master Elite 310 Casing Basically what I have done is since the current mITX case is too small, i put the motherboard into my CM case and plugged in the AcBel power supply cables, the hard drive, but changed the ATI graphics card to the GeForce 210 card (1 x HDMI, 1 x DVI, 1 x VGA). I plugged in the VGA cable to my monitor and the HDMI to AV connector into the HDMI port. I plugged the yellow AV cable into the connector. I also plugged the sound connector (the one the iPhone 7 doesn't have) into the sound IO on my motherboard's IO panel. There was no display. I tried it again, removing the VGA cable and my TV displayed the software albeit being slightly blurry. Removing the yellow VGA cable would also yield the same result, but it would be displayed on the monitor. I think the problem may be with the GeForce 210 card only allowing 2 displays but in this configuration (DVI and VGA), (HDMI and DVI) [according to NVIDIA forums]. I thought of using my GTX 970 (2 x DVI, 1 x HDMI, 1 x DisplayPort) but since my monitor only has one VGA port, it would be kind of useless. So, I knew I was in a pickle and had to either get a graphics card that supported dual display (HDMI and VGA) or do something else. Just before my ATI graphics card spoiled, I was planning to upgrade my rig from an i5 750 to an i7 3770 gaming console killer system. (This is why i have those parts and my GTX 970) My motherboard has not arrived yet but I was planning to build my system into the CM Elite 310 system and connect it via HDMI to my TV. However, can I take advantage of this situation and get my Karaoke to run off the same system? Basically, I would plug the HDMI AV connector into the HDMI port on my GTX 970 and the yellow AV connector into the respective slot. Then, I would get a DisplayPort to HDMI connector and plug the DisplayPort into the GTX 970. I would get another HDMI port and plug it from the DP HDMI connector to my TV HDMI input. Lastly, i would get a DVI/DVI-D to VGA connector so I can connect it to my monitor. I would plug in my audio connector from my amp to my new motherboard (Biostar H61MGV3) When I am loading Windows 10 to play games, I would just change the input on my TV to HDMI which is where my game would display. My monitor would act as the temperature monitoring panel. The audio would come out of my BMB speakers. When I switch to Karaoke mode, I just have to change my TV to AV mode (must i plug out the DP to HDMI connector?) and i will choose my song on the monitor and it would play on the TV. Audio from speakers again. If my understanding of ports are correct, this should work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Pictures are below!

Hello everyone, I would like to ask You all for help. After a recent windows update i started having a problem with my second display. Whenever it's displaying content that is moving, like a video or just scrolling the browser, the screen starts to act weird - it tears, some kind of artifacts are showing up, it starts flickering. I've recorded what is happening here: My setup is as follows: FX6200 Msi R9 280x 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz Asus M5A97 Samsung 750 SSD Corsair VS 650W main screen: Iiyama ProLite E2409HDS over HDMI - this one works good 2nd screen: BenQ G2400WA over miniDisplayPort->VGA adapter. So far I tried: Swapping from my old DVI->VGA adapter to mentioned miniDP-VGA. For about an hour it looked like the problem was fixed, but it came back eventually. Using different VGA cable Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? Thanks for any tips! ~Illi

When connected to my laptop using a VGA everything worked fine except that sometimes lines were "kinda" moving a little bit like a wave but it really didn't matter for me. I bought an HDMI cable and I'm using it now but then sometimes screen goes black for a second then just return, no errors or what so ever, It just turns black. Why is this?

Howdy, LTT community! Is screen tearing dependent on the type of video input cable used? ---or--- Is one cable better at mitigating screen tearing than another(all things held equal)? Also would screen tearing suffer from use of adapters (like from HDMI to Display port)? (Any data would be great to support claims) Thanks!

Hey Guys, As i bought a new gpu(Zotac 1060 6gb amp) last month i also got a new Monitor(Dell S2216H). But recently i started the need of a 2nd monitor and hence i decided to add my old monitor to my setup (Lg E2041). My card has 3 display ports, 1 hdmi and 1 Dvi-i. I used a Dvi-i to vga converter to connect the new Lg monitor. Well my system can detect it, as in the photos below, and the screenshot shows that the gpu is displaying on the 2nd monitor(Lg) too. But on the screen it shows D-Sub and enters to power saving mode. Can you guys help me how to get the display on the 2nd monitor too? A guy from one of the shops said to me that the Zotac 1060's Dvi-i port can only be used if i use a Dvi-i to Hdmi converter and hence suggested me to buy a new monitor with a Hdmi or Display Port input. Well right now i cant buy a new monitor as i recently upgraded my whole system. Guys thank for your help in advance.

Hello, Recently i bought a ZOTAC GTX 1060 3GB AMP Edition, It didnt come with an DVI-I to VGA converter so i just hooked up my HDMI cable to my tv above my monitor. The TV works nicely, but after a while it hurts my neck. My TV us a Samsung LA32C530F1R, My monitor is a LG 22M35B. My old MSI HD 7790 1GB OC Ed. can handle these just fine, but why cant my new and updated GTX 1060 able to? I tried multiple converters like DisplayPort to VGA, and DVI-I to VGA. I just recently bought DVI-I to VGA and thought the DP to VGA is unable to convert properly (active converter btw). My original monitor was undetected, so i was stuck with neck pain for a few weeks and im growing out of solutions since it has only 3 types of Input on my GPU, and my monitor only supports VGA. Heres a few things ive done: Newest Drivers of my LG Monitor and GTX 1060 DVI-I to VGA converter DP to VGA Converter (Active converter, because some say passive is less likely to work) Changed the cables, both VGA and the power block. Im honestly lost now. Could it be faulty of other inputs?!(cant be ALL 3 displayports faulty)

I bought a Benq VZ2350HM monitor yesterday. But the problem is that the HDMI port on that monitor is not working. I tried using a cable that has HDMI male ports on both the ends. However, as can be seen in the attached picture, when the VGA port of the monitor is used via an HDMI to VGA converter at the Graphic card's side(The graphic card doesn't have a VGA port. So, I had to use the converter), the monitor posts. So do I need to return the monitor because the HDMI port is not working? P.S. The HDMI cable worked when I connected my laptop to a TV using the HDMI ports on both the devices.

So here's the thing, i'm currently using a tv for my main display with HDMI cable, i found my old monitor in the basement, the old monitor was.. old? So it doesn't have hdmi and it has limited resolutions, so my question is.. is it possible to do a dual monitor setup if both monitor have different resolutions? E.g my main main monitor (tv) is 1080p, while the old monitor is capped at 720p max

Does using different cables such as HDMI, DVA-D, VGA etc. affect the amount of frames I will get in games...?
