Hi, I am thinking about multi booting Windows 10 Pro, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Kali Linux. I am planning on having all the Linux distros on their own drive together. I am also only thinking about Ubuntu to learn Linux and then transition to using Fedora and Kali. My question is what would be the dangers and/or draw backs of multi booting and having the Linux distros on their own drive? What concerns should I consider if I want to continue with the multi boot? Everything else who want to say about it? I am also thinking about running MacOs on a Linux VM, however, I am on the fence about it, I just need to get my photos and videos off my phone quickly and effectively (iPhone). Thanks in advance, for the replies and answers.

Budget (including currency): Under $500 USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Solely for use as a headless Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS machine to run RoasTime (amd64), and RealVNC server. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi all, Merry Christmas, this is my first post! I'm looking for your thoughts on amd64 based single-board computers. My project is to create a headless Ubuntu machine which sole purpose is to run RoasTime (amd64) and RealVNC server, accessed by RealVNC viewer on a Mac on the same network. I've tried this with a Raspberry Pi 4, but soon realized I couldn't install RoasTime since the software is amd64 based, where the RPi is ARM based. Aside from RPi, Arduino, Beagle Bone, and Adafruit, I'm not familiar with other single-board computers / micro processors, especially those with amd64 based processors. After some research I found UDOO X86 II ADVANCED PLUS, which seems to satisfy all requirements of 20.04.1 LTS Desktop (since I'll ultimately access it with RealVNC) and is amd64 based for RoasTime. For under $250 USD I can get the board, case, M.2 wifi/bt kit, and power supply. So, what do you think, am I on the right track or am I missing something?

Hello guys, I have a PC with 3 hard disks SSD #1 (Dedicated to Ubuntu 18.04 OS) [SATA3_0] SSD #2 (Dedicated to Windows 10 OS) [SATA3_1] HDD #3 (For other files) [SATA3_2] Usually, when I boot my system, I get a GRUB menu from where I can choose a specific OS to load (Ubuntu or Windows). For some reason, I had to Reinstall Windows after which I was unable to load Windows from the GRUB menu as it was got corrupted. To fix it, I followed this post and repaired the GRUB Everything is fine now, I can load both OS without any problem, but there is one small confusion, when I checked the boot order in BIOS I found one extra entry ubuntu (SATA3_1) i.e. Ubuntu boot manager on Windows hard disk. Usually, there should be only 2 options Windows Boot Manager (SATA3_1) ubuntu (SATA3_0) If I boot from ubuntu (SATA3_0) a GRUB menu appears where I can choose the OS to load and both OS loads without any problem, but when I boot from ubuntu (SATA3_1) a GRUB terminal appears So my question is can I delete this entry ubuntu (SATA3_1) somehow, does deleting it will corrupt Windows or Ubuntu boot manager or should I just leave it, as it's not creating any problem

So I have an older system with the following specs MSI Motherboard A78M-E45-V2 AMD A10-7850k CPU (stock cooler) 16GB DDR3 1600 Memory Geforce 1050TI Corsair CX430M PS OS- Ubuntu 20.04 (primary OS) I was looking for some thoughts on the following, or wondering if it would even be worth it. Or just wait a year or so to replace. * upgrade cooler * upgrade Geforce card? * overclock CPU Typical Steam gaming under linux/photon (want to try quake champions, but does not appear to work well with current configuration. maybe try Warzone under windows), test3.pdf

Once pandemic blows over and I get enough $$, I'm planning to upgrade to a rx 6800 (NON-XT) OR a 7700 (XT?) (quake 2 RTX @ 1080p 60+ fps all settings maxed sounds sick lol; even RTX 40+ fps 1080p all settings maxed is still OK, I have 1080p IPS 144 Freesync). However, my OS of choice (even my gaming desktop) has always been Ubuntu, since I don't have to deal with the pain of NTFS corruption (trust me, it was always super unstable at least when I used Windows 10 on my laptop, may or may not have something to do with discovering much later hundreds of thousands of bad sectors on my HGST hard drive which came with the laptop, but even then Ubuntu's ext4 has never given me an issue; I run an SSD on the laptop anyway now). But going with an LTS release meant that (to me at least) support for latest hardware was basically gonna be a no-go, until I discovered Ubuntu LTS HWE (Hardware Enhancement Version). To be running on Ubuntu LTS HWE meant that (at least theoretically, from what I've read) one would get the benefit of both a stable OS and (basically) full-featured support for the latest hardware, including Over/Underclocking support, Under-volting support (my Vega 56 and most other 2017+ consumer GPUs understandably has a hard VBIOS voltage limit), and changing power limits. However, I've also read stories like this: https://github.com/azeam/powerupp/issues/1 online where even having the latest OS and kernel (NOT the upstream ones btw; I tend to not want to mess with those unless if I absolutely have to) basically will do one no good if it's not an "unlocked GPU", since the GPU in question is a 5600XT, which is basically just a "vbios-limited" version of a 5700 from everything I know. Nonetheless, I'm running a LTS HWE Ubuntu (18.04, I'm waiting for 20.04.02 LTS HWE) on my laptop (daily driver, not using desktop much rn) and it seems so far I get kernel updates pretty frequently, so it seems like there's still hope for me if I want to get the latest-gen GPU for my very next upgrade. So for any of those running Ubuntu LTS HWE, especially for those running a 5700 or a 5600 XT, or even any other RDNA/RDNA 2 GPU, how has OS support/stability and changing clocks/power limits/voltages been? Does the 5600 XT vbios clock limit still apply now unless if the vbios is flashed to something different? And does any of this mean that even if the HWE feature does truly live up to its promises, I'll still have to avoid a Vbios-limited SKU like 5600 XT (I assume this includes Nvidia GPUs too?) no matter what? BTW i don't care about GUI vs CLI overclocking; I've done CLI overclocking with my Vega 56 and I use vim.basic all the time. Also 1080p is good enough for me; just want the ray-tracing capabilities before it catches on everywhere big time (see https://wccftech.com/valve-source-2-engine-rumored-to-receive-ray-tracing-rtx-support/) Also my current Steam library: - Shadow of Tomb Raider - Deus Ex, Mankind Divided - CSGO - DOTA 2 - Quake II ray-traced (Once get RDNA 2+ GPU) - (We'll see lol)

I'm currently running ubuntu server as a VM (esxi) to host my plex application, I've added a Nvidia Quadro P2000 for transcoding and passed it through to the VM fine. My ubuntu OS currently does not have the GUI installed so it's purely CLI however when I install the Nvidia GPU drivers it also downloads and installs the minimal GUI for Ubuntu, is this unavoidable or is there a way to stop ubuntu installing the GUI environment? ubuntu version is 20.04 lts nvidia driver 450

I recently installed Ubuntu on an NVMe and everything was perfectly adequate. This was up until the point I decided to install the proprietary drivers for my GPU (GTX 1080 Ti) through Software and Updates. After my PC reset, I was able to login and do a few tasks, however, there was a problem. Every once in a while, my cursor would freeze and disappear as would my screen and then my cursor would reappear on some other part of my screen. Additionally, there would be times where my screen would hang and all I would be able to do is move my cursor around, until functionality returned after 5ish seconds. There was one point where my screen froze and functionality didn't return, and so I had to force shut down my computer. I even tried using older (proprietary) drivers, but with no avail. Once Ubuntu itself crashed, so I simply hadn't a fix. I reinstalled Ubuntu without installing the proprietary drivers and so far I have faced no problems. But I want to install proprietary drivers because from what I've read, they are better than the open-source drivers and overall performance is much higher with them. Is there anyway I can fix this issue? What exactly causes this issue with the drivers? I am certain it is the driver issue because of the issue going post re-installing. I have used the GPU for the past 3 years without any issue. I do think it is important to note that I also reinstalled Win10 on another drive. There is an issue where the screen goes black for about a second and reappears. This typically happens when I watch a video or I work on a document. This problem didn't exist with it before re-installation. Thank you for any help!

So does anybody know how to get phasmophobia to work on Ubuntu? I am using proton but it would even launch, it tries too and then just goes back to having the option to launch. Is there some specific launch options?

Hey guys, I posted a few days ago, I bought a server from a guy in toronto for a really good deal, so not an issue on the money I spent or the fact that it is used, didn't realize he kept his server set up in NAS, and used it as a local media vault for his house. So I am having some issues on a few things, one he is running it as a really stripped down command line only version of Debian, I need to know how to strip Debian out of the system and replace it with Ubuntu as I'm not familiar with the process and I need to remove the media vault all together as it is something quite odd too me I never really seen before. Much help would be amazing!!

My error: when booting off the drive in the boot menu, it says I need a software update to use the 'disk' My steps: I used disk utility to create a partition on my SSD, (MS-DOS, FAT32), 110gb I used disk utility to erase my flash drive and reformat it as above (ms-dos, fat32). I downloaded ubuntu as .iso, and used etcher to flash it onto my USB. I reboot, enter boot menu. Even though I only have one flash plugged in, two identical usb drives pop in the boot menu. They are titled the same and both produce the same error. Other steps I have attempted: I gave clearance for my computer to boot off an external boot drive. I removed all security features from my computer's drive and any boot drive. My laptop is fully updated. After clicking the boot drive in the boot menu, it reads : "A software update is required to use this startup disk" If I click update, it goes through a 'downloading update' phase for a few minutes, then automatically boots back into Catalina on the other partition. Please let me know what other details I can offer Thanks!
