Hey guys, The only things I was able to bring with me to uni was my laptop, and monitor, so I tried using my laptop as a desktop (I was used to the larger screen, etc), but there was some pretty bad input lag over hdmi. I want to try and figure out if its the laptop's hdmi port, or the monitor's hdmi input (I did not have any such issue on my desktop which was connected to the monitor via displayport. I could just get myself a passive hdmi to dp cable but most of the ones that are sub 20$ only support 1080p, and this is a 1440p monitor. Is it possible to get hdmi to displayport adapters that support 1440p, for a reasonable price? (I will get my desktop shipped here in a month or 2, so I don't want to spend too much on this "experiment") I'm not sure about the version of hdmi on the laptop, but it is enough to drive 1440p@60hz.

So I'm having friends help my put together a build this time and one of them recommended I should go with a 2500K and Overclock the crap out of it. Now I wanted to go with a Locked 4th Generation i5 but they didn't like that Idea. The only reason I wouldn't go with a 2500K is due to the platform being old and finding a decent motherboard is a pain and I'm honestly not sure if it's worth the money to go with a LGA 1155 cpu at this time.. (TL;DR AT BOTTOM, sorry if this is in the wrong subforum) Today is (probably) the day. Today I am going to drive out to Micro Center and pick up some computer parts for the last upgrade I'm going to give my computer for a long while. Replacing the CPU and Motherboard. Me and my 8350, we've been through a whole lot together. About 4 years ago this baby was brought home from the same store that is going to doom it, the Dallas Metroplex Micro Center. I am going today to buy a Z97 Motherboard and an i5-4590. I'm going to take the i7-4770 out of my sister's Dell XPS pre-built that we bought from a friend a year ago (since all she does is play Minecraft, yes I have permission) and I'm going to replace it with said i5. The reason I am buying Z97 for my locked i7 is that at Micro Center, most nice Z97 boards are down to around $110 + a $10 rebate. I also wanted it to look nice. That's the upgrade. (TL;DR) So, I'm switching platforms. AM3+ to LGA 1150. My question is "do I need to reinstall Windows 10 with a platform change?" My guess is that it'll be like everybody else's upgrade, where you need to re-activate after a hardware upgrade (Thanks, Microassholes!) Their suggested way of doing so is installing an old version of Windows, then doing the free upgrade again. Is that the only way? Thanks for reading.

Currently running my Maximums IV Extreme-Z with a 1TB Samsung SSD as OS and games, while I have 4x4TB WD drives in Raid5. I also have 2x240GB Corsair Force drives free now, as they were Raid0 for I wanna say two years (fuzzy memory) as my OS before I got the 1TBSammy. So as you may of guessed it I would like to use the two drives as cache for my 4x4TB Raid5, I know its overkill but its what I got, n hey this is a LTT fourm, what's not overkill. I figured ill Raid1 the 2x240GB's for safety, but how do I begin on making them cache for the Raid5? All 6 Drives will be using the MOBO's 6 Intel ports, where my 1TB is off the Marvell Controlled port. I need this write speed to my array to be faster than 20MB/s give or take. I understand the bigger the Raid5 array the slower write speed it will get, hence why I would like to shove a cache in it's face n get fast writes too, after all it reads at a fast 350-400MB/s Thats all I think you need to know, but hey drop a question if you need to know more... Heyo, I've gotten into skyrim this break, and have been adding mods to my game over the past few days using nexus mod manager. After installing an ENB, and a bit too many texture mods, the performance really took a hit (highs of 35 fps). After this I learned what were good mods (visuals vs performance), and decided the best plan of action would be to delete the game folder and start over. When I did so, I noticed that a popup came up saying "this save relies on content that's not available" and that is expected, as the save records what mods are running. Previously this popup was not much of an issue, as it would just load the game with only the mods that were installed. This time around however, it crashes to desktop at the loading screen with all available saves. I assumed the issue would go away if I installed only the critical mods (like some of the weapon mods, as I was using some of their weapons, and it would make sense that the game would freak out of it tried loading a weapon that was from a mod that isnt currently installed), however that did not help. My question is what else could cause the game to crash when loading the save? as I have installed all that mods that are linked to the save, and it still crashes... The game appears to start a new game fine, so the issue is limited to when the game tries loading the save.

Heyo, I've looked up a few videos on how to add leds to your sub and make them pulse to the beat, but all of them solder the led terminals directly to the speaker terminals. Is that safe? considering the speaker receives an AC current and the LEDs work off DC. Would there be any repercussions to the speaker/ amp? My sub is the Yamaha YST-SW012, and its powered by an inbuilt amp (50W I think) for further context.

So I want to build a Living room pc to game on from time to time. I was debating on getting a used Alienware X51 or even getting a console but I decided that should be my last resort. Budget : $500 - $600 Games I plan to play : BF4,GTA & MGS I guess you can say mainly Triple AAA Titles What I Want : I would prefer having smooth/Consistent 60 Fps over graphics but I still want the games to look good. So to end this, I'm not sure if I should go with Intel for this or maybe AMD? New Or Used is fine with me! What do you guys think? Let me know! Thank you

Okay, I setup a PFSense router and the LAN is allowing me to access the web-config page, but the wan wont connect to the rest of my network. I'm trying to get the pfsense router to go like this through my network: Modem>Router>PFSense Router>Dummy Computer. Eventually I want to replace the main router with the PFSense Router, but I need the PFSense router to work first. If you could help out that would be great. Right now I have the WAN set to dhcp, and the lan set to static, and giving out dhcp. The LAN works perfectly. Also, The main router tells me that the PFSense router is connected to it, and it gives it an ip-address.

What should i choose ? I am not really sure what i want. I never on my life used mouse pad i always prefered to put my mouse on my desk without anything, but the colour of your desk fucks up then. I plan buying XXL extended edition mouse pad for my new desk soon , but i am not sure control or speed its hard for real. And yeah i watched Linus "Mouse Pad Buyer's Guide for Gamers" at the end i was dunno. I am sure you awesome comunity will help me out Thanks in advance !

Hey everyone, I recently got myself a Kingston Digital 240gb SSD which was on sale for a whooping $60. My computer has been bogged up, filled to the brim on registry errors and etc. Boot time of approx 6-10 minutes. So I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on the SSD, wiped the old drives and use them as storage/games now. I know you can change the directory without doing all that stuff, but like I said, It was best to have a fresh start. Boot times are at 40 seconds. I'm new to the whole process of using an SSD as an OS booter (I've been using WD Blacks/Green all my life), and I have a couple of questions: How does an SSD slow down? What do I watch out for? Is it JUST by not filling up to the brim? Not de-fragmenting them? Where does my editing software go? I do VFX and many post-film productions on this PC (Adobe suite), but where do those programs go now? Do I put them on the WD Black? I heard that programs and files that don't get accessed often will slow the SSD down. In other words, it's BAD to put VFX software because it isn't as accessed as the OC files/Antivirus softwares/ etc. (which obviously gets used all the time)? What maintenance tools, if any, should I consider? Any general tips? I can confirm that TRIM is active and on. Thanks!

So I have a big black external WD hard drive. I store all of my games on it, but it's bottle necked by it's USB 2.0 interface. I know with some if not most external hard drives you can take them apart and on the inside it's the same as an internal HDD. I would like to do this accept there isn't any screws or anything to take it apart with on the outside which leads me to believe there's just a WD Green in there that they're trying to hide. Any ideas on how I might find out or how I might take it apart?

How does vessel work? I'm thinking of signing up to watch linustechtips but i just wanted to know if it just shows videos earlier and how the schedule usually runs down on vessel? Is there several videos a day that get uploaded or is it the same daily video schedule but just videos that are uploaded earlier?? Explain to the best of your ability cause im not sure if i want to spend the money after my free one month trial.

Hey all, I currently own a syncmaster 940BW and looking to upgrade toward a 4k Monitor. which is 75hz and not feeling like downgrading to 60 hz especially since I got used to 75hz. Kept my eyes on Linus' ASUS RoG Swift PG278Q review, however he said that the colors were not the best. I am also going to buy a new PC next year (7-9 months from now) with the best specs on the market, so my questions are: Is there any improvement/technology coming up in the monitor market that is worth the wait? will the prices of the the current 4k monitors (avg 900$) go down. --> If so by how much? (rate) Should I buy something on black Friday or during Christmas time so the prices are down? Any suggestions on this matter? Thanks guys, really appreciate it

Included Case Fan : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106224 What To Do : I was thinking of buying High Static Pressure fans for all the fan mounts but that came out way to expensive ($95 - $105 +) The other option is to re-use my Enermax fans Enermax Fan : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835214043&cm_re=enermax_cluster-_-35-214-043-_-Product (3 x 120mm as front intake / 2 x 120mm bottom intake / 1 x 120mm back exhaust / 2 x Stock 200mm top exhaust) or should I use the stock setup and add one more 200mm exhaust fan & 2 x 120/140mm bottom intake : (2 x 200mm front intake / 2 x 200mm top exhaust / 2 x 120/140mm bottom intake) or last option : Replace all 200mm fans with higher quailty 200mm fans & 2 high quality 120/140mm fans. How's eveyone doing on this fine night? I just started using the VSR setting in the AMD CCC and I was suprised on how BF4 looked when changing it to the 4K resolution. The game looked much cleaner and crisper than 1080p. ( Low Graphics Preset ) Now my question is what graphics settings would I need to use to achieve 60 Fps smooth? I would assume I would need a mixture of graphics settings? Any help/suggestion's would be great! Thank you.
