I just picked up a pair of ASUS VN248H-P monitors. They seem pretty nice, but I've begun to notice some weird issues that are outside of my knowledge base. I'll do my best to describe what's going on, but you might want to check out the linked video and pictures. First, I hooked up my camera (Sony NEX-C3) to one of the monitors to use it as an external display. The camera menu and options were displayed on the screen for no more than 30 minutes before I switched back to my desktop to discover this: Burn In 01, Burn In 02 NOT COOL! I know about image burn and image persistence but 30 minutes is a ridiculously low threshold. It's faded away now (apprx. one hour later) but I'm still concerned something is wrong with my monitors. And because I'm concerned I decided to put them through some pixel tests. I pull up this YouTube video, full screen it, and let it play only to discover another problem: HDMI (left) VGA (right) Ex. 01, HDMI (left) VGA (right) Ex. 02, HDMI (left) VGA (right) Ex. 03 I'm not a gamer, but I think this is what they call screen tearing. It was happening on the same monitor that had burn in, and not the second monitor. I'm starting to get pissed but in the name of science I calm down and think of the variables involved. Both monitors are connected via on board video. The problem monitor is connected to the HDMI, and the second monitor is connected to the Display Port via a DP to VGA adapter, effectively making it an analog signal, I think. So, I switch them and boom, the problem monitor is no longer tearing, but the second monitor is: VGA (left) HDMI (right). Now I don't know what to do. I don't even know if these are true problems or somethings I am unfamiliar with. Should I RMA these monitors? Will a graphics card upgrade (Gigabyte G1 GTX 970) fix the screen tearing? Help me PC Master Race, you're my only hope.

Refresh Rate, Tearing, Response Time, Gaming Monitor Help?
LiquidThoughts posted a topic in Displays
Ok I've watched all the LinusTechTips videos and been researching for days. I still don't understand what monitor I should get. What I want: Vsync seems to give me input lag which is unacceptable because I play twitch shooters. I'm using "adaptive vsync" which helps but I'd like to get a monitor with a fast refresh rate which will stop tearing but also higher resolution. The problem: The monitor I own is a Asus VE247 (linked below). Its a 60hz 1080p monitor with a 2ms response time. I'd like to get rid of all tearing, get a smoother image and possible up my resolution. The problem is when I find a monitor that has the 120hz or 144hz option it only comes with the 1080p resolution. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236112 What I found: My friends bought a Asus VG248QE. Its 144hz 1080p 1ms monitor which is the current monitor I'm thinking about getting. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G1XA5128&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&PageSize=10&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&IsFeedbackTab=true#scrollFullInfo Question: As a gamer all I want is a smooth image with no tearing at a clean high resolution from a trusted company for under $400. Is there a relationship between resolution and refresh rate I'm missing? Whats the monitor I should be looking at? LED or LCD? Any help would be greatly appreciated and after I fully understand monitors I will be creating a video to help others.- 11 replies

I can not find much help on Google for my current issue. The issue is: I have video tearing on websites such as Youtube and Netflix. My video games do not tear because I know how to manually go into the game and adjust it. When it comes to videos though, I do not know how to go about fixing this problem. =( The GPU I have installed is a GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256-bit and is currently UP-TO-DATE. My OS is Windows 7. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hello. So I've been having performance issues while watching any format video in full screen mode. This includes Windows Media Player, VLC, Windows Media Player Classic, Youtube or any other video online using flashplayer. If i maximize the video, but not full screen it, then i don't have issues. Which now when i think about it could be effecting my gameplay whenever i play a game in full scree. I've gone through some forums and after fishing through all of the arguing that goes on, someone suggested turning off vsync because this is a common Nvidia graphics card issue (what i'm reading, not what i'm saying). I have a... CPU: AMD FX 8350 (not overclocked) GPU: EVGA Nvidia 4GB GTX 770 (not overclocked) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 MOBO: MSI Gaming 970 Motherboard OS: Windows 7 Ultimate When i had a Radeon 6870 with a Phenom II X6 1045T, Gigabyte GA-970A-ED3 and Antec Kuhler H2O Cooling Kit i didn't have this issue. (maybe not playing the newer games in max, but definitely was able to play 1080P in fullscreen) Can anyone tell me how to turn off Vsync, unless someone knows a better solution for what's going on? * Side note: I have the most up to date drivers for nvidia and i have pretty much all codecs you can get for video encoding (it also happened before i did), i also have the most up to date flash player/shockwave *

Hello, I experience alot of screen tearing in games like Cod:Aw and newer games. Any idea of what the problem could be?

Hi guys. I have a really odd problem right now. I have this system for a couple of months now and overclocked it a couple of times to see how far I could go without changing the power settings. I could always get 1110 Core and 1450 Memory. I wanted to run 3DMARK and aplied the overclock but then this happened: This never happened before and I don't know why. I haven't applied the overclock for a long time (got a 144Hz 1080p screen instead of a 60Hz, and updated my drivers to Omega drivers). Does anyone know why this is happening? It's a Asus 290X DCU2 btw, full specs on my profile. EDIT: On my second screen (60Hz) the tearing is way less.

Hey quick question... Does anyone else get screen tearing when watching youtube? It occurs on both my laptop and desktop but I'm wondering if this is a global issue or just me. Thanks Guys.

Hey guys, I built a new gaming PC last month and I've been having screen tearing during gaming, video playback, video streaming (YouTube, Vimeo), and even when viewing 2D images like Amazon product photos and even charts on Excel. All my software including BIOS has been updated. GTX 980 driver is up to date with version 344.75. MB Bios version date is 9/30/2014, also latest version. PC specs: OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit MB: ASUS Z97-a CPU: Intel i7-4790k GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GTX 980 Superclocked RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz (8x2) PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850W G2 SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB HDD: WD 2TB (Black) Here are things I've tried: Set monitor to 60Hz refresh rate Enabled V-Sync and Triple buffering Updated my GPU driver, rolled it back, and tried the beta version of a new driver Completely uninstalled my GTX 980 and reinstalled it Tried 2 displays with different HDMI cables Removed my GPU completely and used onboard VGA display Used each RAM stick individually None of these have worked. It's driving me insane ; ; Any help would be really appreciated here. Thanks!

My laptop is the HP 17-j034ca: Click here for hardware configuration While scrolling and watching videos there is an annoying screen tear in the shape of a Z that goes across the screen. I am currently looking up this issue and so far it I have discovered it is a Nvidea driver issue of some sort. I have changed the powermizer to prefer maximum performance. I really don't care about battery life (hence the 17 inch laptop), its always plugged in. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I tried using compizconfig settings manager but I don't have the frames per second slider, or the wait for vsync check box.

first of, here is a video of what is happening (albeit terrible quality) sorry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H9Fe3Bv01M this currently happens on every game I tested: world of warcraft metro last light bioshock infinite call of duty ghosts I have gone through many different routes to fix this problem: different driver installs (geforce 335.23 & geforce 337.50) different game setting configurations different global driver setting configurations different display port cables the only fix being to disable sli and run the monitor off only 1 GPU. the problem is I dont think it is an sli issue, I think its the display controller inside the monitor. unless I can get a firmware update to the monitor or if we find out that this is infact a gpu driver issue than I will be returning this monitor. currently with this problem games are unplayable with sli enabled. the bottom portion of the screen going black every 2-10 seconds really takes you out of the game.

Hi, It would seem as if I need some help. While watching YouTube videos in windowed mode on Chrome, I get really bad screen tearing and low frame-rates, and when going into full screen, the same effects, only worse. I have tried updating my flash and checked the option to use HTML5 when ever possible but it still happens. Nothing is taking up any un-necessary amounts of system RAM, (unless you include Chrome). To rule out Chrome as being the problem, I have tried Firefox, Internet Exploder, and Safari, but the problem still exists. If anyone else has experienced this or knows of a solution, it would be extremely aprechiated if you could share your opinions. Thanks for all your help.

So, here's a strange one. Specs are in sig, also in here is a GT 620 from Nvidia. My screen is tearing? It only occurs in Firefox, and I was able to take screenshots. It goes away when I scroll away from it. It will occur on both screens. 7850 powers my 1080p monitor, the 620 powers the TV. Also, I apologize for the profane file names, but I am becoming really annoyed at this.

Hi, I've been having some screen tearing issues whilst gaming. I'm currently playing through borderlands 2 and I have been noticing it a lot and it also happens in other games. I have been using adaptive vsync and then I turned off vsync completely and used EVGA Precision to limit the framerate to 58 fps but I was still getting tearing. I'm using 1 60Hz monitor and the 320.49 drivers. Any help would be much appreciated as it's really annoying me.

Several months ago, I upgraded to a GTX 770, and have been loving it. However, I have ran into some very peculiar issues when viewing videos. 1. Randomly, when watching video in any sort of player, the contrast and brightness go WAY out of whack. The contrast shoots up ~20% higher than normal, while the brightness appears to shoot up ~10% above normal. This issue occurs in all forms of video playback that I tested. (VLC, Windows Media Player, Youtube, HTML5 videos). This issue, SOMETIMES, can be corrected by going into "Adjust Video Color Settings" in the nvidia Control Panel and Force nvidia settings, and then manually adjust the brightness and contrast down. Other times, I am only able to solve the issue by restarting my computer. Restarting seems to always correct the problem. This issue is not very frequent, but it occurs at least once every two weeks but most of the time it's once a week. This issue also occurred on the last version of GeForce drivers. At the moment I am only using a single monitor and sometimes duplicating that to a TV. In the past I have encountered the problem with dual monitors. At that time, the issue would affect both monitors. 2. I frequently encounter tearing in videos. I have noticed it in VLC and in Youtube videos. The tearing is not anywhere near as bad as tearing I've seen in games, but it annoys me when I can see just a blip here and there when I'm immersing myself in a movie or something of that nature. I have checked the screen settings and it's set to 60Hz, 1920x1080 1080p in the nvidia control panel. It is using the automatically suggested settings. Under "Video Image Settings" I have attempted to use both "Use nvidia settings" and "Use the video player settings" and I see it in both. I re-install windows every 2-3 months and am soon tempted to switch to Windows 8, although I may wait for Windows 9. Pretty much all of my drivers are up to date. I have been scouring the internet with little to no luck regarding these issues. I figure I might as well pick your brains. These are really the only noteworthy issues that I have experienced since swapping my Radeon HD 7950 out for this GTX 770. Any thoughts or ideas? Hi everyone, I have a problem with my graphics card (Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Boost 3GB). If I use eyefinity with 3 monitors (3x ASUS VN247H) I get tearing on 1 monitor or tearing on 2 monitors. If i don't use eyefinity there is no tearing. Catalyst-version 14.1 thanks in advance

This might be a very dumb question but which one would work better with a 60Hz monitor, just using the framerate that the game gives me or locking it to 60? Would the locking decrease tearing or would it just work as bad as V-sync? Thanks.

I recently had this happen to me in the morning. the left side of any YouTube video is tearing when at any resolution setting and its even worse at 1080p. Anyone else getting this? E: This probably should have gone in Troubleshooting!

So my problem is: i have tearing in every game i own. I tried to switch v-synch in game on and of in combination with all the frame buffer, v-synch and adaptive v-synch settings in my nvidia settings. Also i tried different Hz settings and fps settings of gpu tweak (30,40,50,60 hz or fps) The only thing that varies is the number of tearing lines i have on screen while i am in game (i mostly have over 60 fps if v-synch is disabled) is this a hardware or a software issue ? my system: i5 4670k (oc to 4,3 ghz) asus gtx 660ti (oc via gpu tweak) asus gryphon z 87 mainboard 2x corsair vengeance 4 gb ddr3 1600MHz CL9 psu: be quiet 500w Display: Samsung synchmaster BX2431 (using hdmi)

I have an acer v3-571g laptop. I just updated both my intel HD 4000(9.18.10.3257) and Nvidia GT 640M drivers(331.65). Right after restart, my screen starts tearing. The effect is really obvious when I move windows around or when I scroll around the Windows 8 start screen. I even tried turning on V-sync on the Nvidia Control Panel and Intel HD Graphics Control Panel. Any solutions? Thanks in advance.

Screen tearing while watching movies (HDMI, TV, Clone Mode)
enborn posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello everyone! I'm new here on the forum but I've been watching Linus's YouTube videos for quite some time now and just decided to make myself an account here in hope of getting some help with a problem I (or rather my sister) have. So... My sister just got her new computer and she was complaining that whenever she watch videos on her TV which is hooked up via HDMI. I went over there the other day thinking this was going to be an easy task but it proved to be a bit more difficult than I had initially thought. The screen tearing only occurs on her TV but not on her monitor (she runs them in clone mode). The problem do not occur when I tried running them in extended mode but she did not want it like that because she can't see her monitor from the sofa. --------------------------------- The specifications of her computer are the following: AMD A10-5800K ASUS F2A85-M Samsung 840 SSD 120GB Corsair CX500M Corsair 8GB RAM She has Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed. The TV is an older Samsung plasma with 1024x768 resolution and her monitor is also a Samsung one with 1680x1050 resolution. --------------------------------- The troubleshooting began, I tested quite a few settings in CCC. Here is a list of things I've tried: - Reinstalled AMD drivers (CCC 13.4) - Clean install - Install CCC 13.6 Beta 2 - Clean install - Changing pixel format, 4:2:2 and all the other available in CCC - Vertical sync on and off - Checked if the HDMI-cable worked normally in her laptop which it did - AMD Overdrive on and off - Overclock the CPU and standard settings - MPC-HC and VLC Media Player - Tried different resolutions --------------------------------- I really hope there is someone here who knows how to fix this.- 26 replies

What's the general consensus when it comes to screen tearing and Vsync? Maybe I'm just particularly sensitive or something, but I personally cannot deal with screen tearing, not even a little bit. Tearing totally destroys the experience for me. It's particularly bad with shooters; I feel like I can't even see where I'm pointing my gun. So I have Vsync forced on for every game through the Nvidia Control Panel. But I've been looking into the whole input lag thing, and I'm wondering whether playing with Vsync on is hurting me. Plus, a dip from 60fps to 30fps does suck. I can't say it sucks more than tearing, though. Is there any way to get rid of screen tearing without the input lag consequences of Vsync? I don't believe my motherboard supports the version of Virtu with Virtual Vsync, and I've heard that that's pretty hit-or-miss anyway. I've looked at triple buffering but apparently Nvidia's implementation doesn't work for DirectX?
