Hello everyone, Last night i tried to turn off my pc. After I clicked "power" > "shut down" the light blue shutting down screen appeared, the monitor went black and the keyboard LED went off. For now everything is normal but after a second the LED and the monitor turned on and the latter showed the desktop and half of the icons in the right side of the menu bar loaded. I tried to shut it down with Alt+F4 or by pressing the start button but nothing, the only way I managed to shut it down was by long pressing the start button. Now it shuts down properly so I only want to know why it happened and what caused it. I hope for someone's help, Thank you. Hello all, Since Friday, my desktop has been running incredibly slow. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the home screen and 15 minutes to shut down. I have forced restarted (held down the power button) many times this past weekend. A few times, I have seen the message "failed to connect to a windows service" upon booting up. My desktop has been running incredibly slowly and I cannot do simple things such as viewing the web. Simple things such as going through folders on my desktop has been frustrating simply due to the time (It will take a very long time and stop responding while it loads). Does anyone know what might the cause be? Virus? Dead drive? Should I reformat? Should I factory reset? Thank you.

I have an audio interface and a MIDI controller keyboard connected to my computer via usb (both get their power through usb). When I shut down the system the devices are still lit up as if the system was up and running. Should I switch off the power supply after shutting down the system? Is there any harm to computer components or external devices in leaving the power supply on all the time? Thanks! -
my pc is shutting down instead of going to sleep. even if i manually put it to sleep it shuts down sometimes. sometimes it works and its in sleep. if i leave the pc idle after a while its supposed to go to sleep but instead it shuts down. i have tried a lot of stuff. in the power settings of windows i have checked it and it says sleep. also i checked some things in my BIOS but not sure what to check there. i changed something about the stated of the cpu ( S4 and S5 states) but nothing changed. my motherboard is asus maximus vii ranger (similar to hero), cpu i5-4690k not overclocked at the moment, psu corsair cx750m. windows 10 and i think it started happen after a windows 10 update. i dont know when exactly it started doing it. i appreciate every help. if you need any more info about my pc ask me in the comments and i will update the post or just answer you. thanks in advance

When I press the start key and click shut down my pc usually wont shut down. The press of the power button wont work either. I don't know whether it's part of the reason but each time this has happened I have played a game prior however i have looked through task manager when this happens and literally nothing is open and It still wont shut down. Any ideas?

Thanks for coming here, my current situation is a follow up of this post: I have bought a new PSU: Corsair VS650 and tried it on my PC (spec of the PC on the previous post) but after a few seconds (1-3 secs) my pc shut downs. It doesnt kill anything, it just shuts downs and waits for another try. I have already tested the PSU with only a fan and the clip on the 24pin connector, it works OK. I have also tried clearing the CMOS values of the motherboard and starting it with just 1 RAM, but the same scenario repeats. I have a system speaker connected but it doesnt make any beeps. Please, any suggestion is welcome

My newly built pc starts for a few seconds after turning on the psu then shuts down(i haven't even pushed the power button). Case fan, cpu fan, gpu fan all spin and then suddenly turn off. When i push the power button nothing happens.

Hi, While playing Battlefield 1 my computer will sometimes restart without any warning, blue screen or error messages. It is basically like someone took my computer and unplugged it from the wall. My specs (if it helps): GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Super Clocked CPU: AMD FX 6300 RAM: 16gb Balistix Sport (quad channel) MOBO: Gigabyte AM3+ AMD 970 GA-970A-UD3P PSU: Corsair 750w semi modular HEATSINK: Coolermaster hyper 212 evo CASE: Bitfenix Comrade OS: Windows 10 64bit Any help is very much appreciated. -Brian

Hi, LTT. So, around 1 year ago i built this computer with all new parts, purely for gaming. With am AMD FX-8350, compatible motherboard and an AMD RADEON R7 370. It all worked fine until very recently. The computer shuts down, as in it's not responsive, and the screen is black. But you can still hear the computer running and the only way to stop it is by going behind and interrupting power from the power supply. HW Monitor reports temperatures of over 80 degrees on the FX while gaming, could that be a problem? The power supply is an Inter Tech Energon 650w power supply, which is supposed to be enough. Please inform me if you need any more info about anything. I have attached a print screen of HW Monitor while playing Dragon Age Inquisition.

i put my xeon 771 chip in my 775 motherboard with the tape thing and it worked but i cant install windows it says press f1 to continue or f2 for setup *bios* when i choose my boot device say cdrom or usb which ever windows is installed to i get boot device not found this is on a vostro 220s 775 motherboard with 4gb of ram and a xeon x5450 cpu -
Hey guys I'm new on the forums so bear with me if I post this thread in the wrong one. The problem I am facing is related to Overclock thats why I thought it would be best to post it here. Anyways I use ASUS RAMPAGE V Edition 10 with an Intel-core 6850k at 4.4GHz and yesterday while I was doing my daily gaming session suddendly the system shut down. I tried to restart it but it couldnt even pass through the POST. I tried to see the Qcode on the mobo and I noticed that the system was shutting down right after the overclock with the Qled at red (which means CPU). I also attempeted a complete reset, unpluging the PSU but still the same. Having no luck with the restarts I used the SAFE BOOT button the mobo has in order to get to BIOS cause there was no other way. Inside BIOS I loaded the default settings and I reseted the PC. The system passed through POST and booted the OS as if it was working perfectly. Though when I went inside BIOS the second time I applied my overclock settings, saved and reseted the system couldnt be able to reset itself. It would just save and shut down . Something is preventing the system from reseting when I apply changes inside the extreme tweaker but i dont know what. I cannot even overclock my RAM although it can pass the MEMOK test . Any suggestions or solutions would be very much appreciated.Thank you -

OCCT - Would not run Power Supply test on Directx11 and would restart in 1-2 seconds. (Runs fine on Directx9) HOWEVER I downloaded Visual C++ 2012 and it now works on Directx11 testing and doesn't immediately crash. (Its not a fact. Just don't have the means to run it hours on end to find out..) Problem: Computer will turn off in the middle of the above mentioned. Basically just turns everything off and restarts like freshly turning it on. (Keyboard/mouse/monitor/tower all go black and then light up and my log in screen for Windows.) There is no "restarting" screen. It goes complete black, fans go low and then ramp up like booting up fresh.

I won't elaborate: As it seems wannacry is still a thing. It's kind of embarrassing that such giant as Honda, can't even secure it's own computer from well known threat. Although loses was not that significant, so they wont affect company anyway. Hello, guys! I have a problem. Today I have bought an Intel i5-3380M (used), to replace my Celeron B980. I am using Samsung NP300E5X-A02BG laptop, here are the specs before the upgrade: Intel Celeron B980 (Intel HD graphics) Samsung EVO 850 250GB SSD 4GB (2x2GB) RAM DDR3 Standard DVD The only thing changed is the CPU ( upgrade to an i5-3380M) and the integrated graphics whit it. And now my laptop work fine on when I boot it up, but in some time it shuts down unexpectedly. I have monitored the temperature, 45-50C when shutting down. So I don't think this is the problem. Please help me, thanks!

Everything was fine before and while the lan party. But once I came home and pugget it back in and booted it. Sometimes the bios is like a slide show and boots extremely slowly. But if it boots fine and gets to Windows. After a minute or 2 the computer shuts down. But not standard (as if I were to pull the plug or the power goes out). What could it be? Or how do I fix it? I need help imiteatly. I've fixed my pc more than once already but I can't figure out what it can be. And I prefer not to spend money to get professionals to fix it. Anybody know? Anything helps now. I bought a customized HP Pavillion 15z laptop which was delivered a few days ago. At first everything was working fine. Then Windows Update found a bunch of updates for the installed drivers so I figured I should install them. Boy was that a mistake. After I did that, the computer ceased to have the ability to enter sleep state or perform a proper shut down. The screen will turn off but the computer will remain on. I have to force shut down using the physical button, which I know is not good for the SSD. I did some research and found out the the audio driver installed on this system is known to cause sleep/wake issues. So I ran the powercfg /energy command to see if that driver had any requests and it did, AT FIRST. I restarted the computer (because for some reason that works fine), and ran the command again. The request wasn't there so I tried putting it to sleep, thinking the issue was solved, but to my disappointment, it still wouldn't sleep. I ran the command again. Still no sleep prevention requests. I also tried all usual troubleshooting steps: disable fast boot, turn off hybrid sleep, disable hibernation altogether, rollback Realtek Audio Driver, etc. I'm returning this POS to HP. The purpose of this post is to warn others not to buy this laptop.

Dear People of the tech tips realm, so basically its been about 1 and a half years everytime i used to do something demanding like playing game my pc shuts down and restarts. Now 1 and a half year later my pc will just randomly restart even on idle. i've noticed that the temperatures are fine below 45 Celcius (113 Fahrenheit). So i turn my pc on and then it loads then i can hear my cpu fan speed up and my cpu usage goes high then back down and high again and so on. You can hear the whirring of the fan as the usage gets higher and then it will shut down. The usage will fluctuate even when idling and through other applications. I believe it could be my psu, gpu and stuff works fine(i hope). please let me know of some solutions and can you recommend me a new psu around 600 watts that will fit in my case and will be compatible with my components. Recently my computer has been acting funny ( say recently since December actually) I have an M.2 Drive, 2 HDDS and an SSD plugged into my PC. Before December it was working great. After that my hard drives went missing from the bios and from windows. A messed around with the insides for a while and they showed back up and all was good again. Then 2 nights ago my PC essentially refused to shut down. I powered down and 5 mins later the fans were still going, the RGB was still lit and the hard drives still spinning. At this point I just powered down from the wall. The next day the hard drives were gone. After so long I ended up swapping out the sata cables and boom it worked. HOWEVER After having to do the same thing last night I have awoke to my PC only finding both the M.2 and the SSD. Anyone know what the issue may be?

I hope I'm posting this in the right subforum, if not, I apologize. So basically, two days ago I shut down my PC as usual, and it went through the "Shutting down" screen, and the screen turned black afterwards. However, I noticed that the power light on my PC case/tower was still on, and thar the fans were still spinning. This never happened before, so I got worried. I tried to press the power button once shortly to see if it would shut down - it didn't, so I pressed the restart button on my case and it restarted and booted up normally. When I shut down the PC again, it shut down normally. I tried looking around on the internet to find what could've been the cause of this, but I couldn't find anything. Could it be that my HDD is failing? Some other part? Windows issue? -
Sooo I had my pc for like 2 years and it worked great. But yesterday I dropped it down a staircase ( my dog stepped in front of my feet ). I quickly tried to revive it and it worked. I watched some YouTube and than when I booted up a game the pc just turned itself off after like 10 minutes of gaming. Is it the Mainboards fault or the cpu or ram? In the drop the cpu couldn't get damaged and I stress tested the ram but do Mainboards behave like that? Normal browsing and discord usage don't crash the system... plz help ty

To anyone who'll read this topic, Recently, my laptop started to shut down randomly, at anytime and the most dramatic : on any software, even on Microsoft Word. I downloaded CoreTemp to check if my CPU was burning or something else, because my laptop shut down in games (which were very performance consuming). But earlier this morning (I'm in France), my computer just shut down while I was editing text on Word. Now I panic... Did anyone already have this issue in the past ? Did they solve it ? If yes, please tell me how. Thanks to whoever read my topic, I appreciate any sort of help. My laptop configuration can be seen on my profile.

Alright y'all, this ain't a BSOD. And this sure ain't your Mama's bootloop. So I have just put my PC into a new case, and everything works fine....sorta. When I go to power off, it appears to power off, almost fully does, then starts too boot for about 15 seconds, then back to shutting down, and does this pretty much infinitely. Not sure what's going on? It's not totally a problem, as I can just switch off the PSU, but it still sucks and I'd love a hand with it.

So this has been happening to me for the last few months. At first I didn't pay attention to it, I thought it would fix by itself but that hasn´t been the case. Everytime I try to shut down my PC, no matter what method I use, it shuts down, stays off for two seconds and then,it automatically reboots. This usually happens only the first time I shut it down but this could happen 2 or 3 times. Eventually it turns off and stays off. When the PC reboots I always get the DistributedCOM error at the event viewer(in case that's helpful). I've tried every method I've come across to fix this but it has been useless. Any ideas?

Hi all, I've made a post about this before but now we've tried some stuff and the problem persists. I sold my 1060 G1 Gaming to a friend of mine and almost everything went smoothly. He's replacing his old GTX 570. He has an i5 (i think 6400T) processor and a AsRock B250M-HDV motherboard with a single 8GB DDR4 RAM stick. The problem is that he's no longer able to shut down the PC. It will boot just fine, the performance is as it should be, but whenever he tries to power down the monitor will stop receiving input but the PC won't actually shut down (fans keep turning and peripheral leds keep shining). Restarting also doesn't work. The only way to power down is by holding the power button. When he puts his old GPU back he is able to shut down, and also when he's using the iGPU. Things we have tried: - Install new drivers - Install older drivers - Disable hibernation - Tried both DVI and HDMI - Reseating the GPU and powerconnectors Can anyone come up with any possible explanation to what is happening and ways to fix this? Backstory: I'm a mod in a YouTuber's discord, and I was trying to help someone in our support section with a problem downloading custom content for this game. I asked them for a link for the custom content so I could just get it for them, but as soon as I clicked the link they provided me a dialog box popped up on my screen. I couldn't even read it, it was so fast. Then out of nowhere the computer went to into shutdown mode, out of fear I had manually shut it down via the power button fearing something might happen if I wait for the computer to shut down by itself. The Problem Each and every time I start my PC from that point forward earlier today, my PC just shutdowns my itself. To be more correct, it only does it once I login into my user. Once I log into my user, I'd say 10 to 15 seconds would pass then it would show the shut down loading screen for like 1 to 3 seconds then it'll finally shut off as if I did it myself. I can't think of any troubleshooting steps to solve as I can't do anything for that 10 to 15 seconds I'm logged in. I only have on user, and I can't test it out on another. As for the link that caused it, I think it's a virus site. Not sure, as I used the site before without a problem. I tested the site on my MacBook, which I'm typing from, and I got no dialog box. No virus. No nothing. Nothing happened! So I have no clue on what happened to my PC. Important Information??? I'm sorry, but I don't remember any of my specs, but besides me buying an extra 8gb stick of ram to have a total of 16gb, the entire PC is stock. My operating system is Windows 10. Here's the site that caused all of this (WARNING): Pretty please. I'm begging you guys, please let me keep my content.. I was stupid enough to not make any backups of anything semi important, but please tell me I can save my data and still solve this issue. But if the only option is to do some secret keybinding combo before I log into my user to like factory reset the PC or something I'll do it. But please I'll go with any other data saving option!!
