Computer Randomly Shuts down - possible PSU issue?
SamuraiSlayer98 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I have been having issues with a dell optiplex 780 that I've modded to work as a media center and gaming PC. The computer shuts off seemingly at random. The event log in windows says the shutdowns are being requested by the button/lid. I read somewhere online that this can sometimes be linked to a PSU. I opened the psu and found a couple bulged caps. Is it safe to assume the psu is dying?- 2 replies

Hello, I have upgraded Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit to Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit version 1909 and noticed that restarting or shutting down laptop takes like 4 minutes. It is just stuck at "Restarting..." or "Shutting Down..." screen until it finally does restart or shut down. Everything is fine in "Safe Mode" though... I guess there is some kind of service or running application that delays restarting or shutting down process and I have no idea how to find out which one causes this.

Hello everyone, I need some urgent help. Recently I posted that my PC kept cutting out and after a while I thought I had diagnosed the problem with the help of various users on this forum but unfortunately the problem keeps occurring and I don't know why. If you want to see my other post he's a link. To give some up-to-date information and a bit more detail here's basically what's happened so far. A few days ago I upgraded my 5-6 year old PC with a new motherboard, CPU and RAM which to me essentially feels like an entirely new build, but since then my PC has crashed pro

Dear pc enthusiasts, yesterday i had to reinstall windows because ESET broke my last one, and today, with everything working fine, all of the sudden my cpu cooler goes nearly silent for a few minutes and than the noise that can be heard when i power up the pc plays itself, and it has that click, and it goes to "normal". This had never happened before and i really don't have a clue what it could be. It happens sometimes randomly, its like the pc almost shuts its components down, especially noticable on the cpu cooler, and after a few minutes it like boots itself up, but the pc is functioning no

Hello, I seem to really need help. A week ago I replaced parts in my pc after my motherboard blew up. I have replaced my motherboard and psu. Everything else works well. But now my pc keeps suddenly shutting down and it won't boot up after I press the power button. To turn it back on I had to unplug the pc from the outlet and let it sit for a while then it boots up just fine. I was getting the CMOS Checksum error at first, after which I replaced the battery with a brand new one. PC still crashes randomly. PC specs: Motherboard - Gigabyte ga

So lately my computer has randomly been shutting down, usually while I am gaming or working for a few hours, where I get to receive this warning: My first thoughts where that temps where going too high, but I've checked that the cpu floats between 40ºC and 60ºC. And the gpu stays somewhat consistent around the 70ºC I've read that it could be due to voltage settings, but I don't understand much of this and haven't really messed with them if I remember correctly. (I attached an image from asus AI suite to see if it helps) Which leads me to think that the psu needs replacement, bu

So my ps3 has been going crazy for 3 months, freezing, randon turn-offs, and blank screen. So on topic now... My ps3 has been doing things that drive me crazy, it has been freezing, shutting off ramdomly, and blank screens. I dropped my ps3 twice first one was not that bad... Only a few scratches. Second drop was fatal it made a big scratch and that was when the freezing happend. I then started to realize that the only way to turn on my ps3 was to insert a disc that had no smudges or scratches. I searched up youtube videos on how to fix my ps3 but it still didnt work i need help. But sometimes

PC just shuts down and then reboots a few mins into playing any game. This problem only started happening in the past few months and never happened before. I suspect that its either the graphics card or psu has gone bad. Also it might be a coincidence but almost always the PC shuts off everytime the gpu reaches 60 degrees which shouldn't happen. Please help this is getting very frustrating now. video: https://youtu.be/8u4rLqDzLj0 specs: CPU: i5 3570 GPU: HD 7870 GHz Edition RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 1866MHz (1x) Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-I LX R2.0

Today in the morning when I turned my PC on everything seemed fine until about 20 minutes later my screen went black and it said there was no connection. So I clicked the restart button on my case and it booted up until the screen when it asks for my password, then it turned off again. At this point I looked at my PC and noticed that everything was still running and working except for my GPU. I'm not sure what the problem is as when I googled to see if others had similar issues some said it was the PSU. I built this PC about a year ago and everything was working fine until a couple of weeks ag

Hello there. I just built my new gaming PC and as many other users of ASUS's Z170 chipset motherboards, I'm facing some issues with the stupid ASUS Anti-surge system. When the first failure occurred I was under almost idle load on my system, just installing some Steam games, and suddenly my system shut itself down (with 1 or 2 seconds showing some changes on my fans behavior, what makes me think that it was not a simple power outage, but an "intentional" shutdown mechanism triggered by my motherboard (which is a ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme). After the system shutdown, I notice sever

I posted here a couple weeks ago regarding my MSI GT70 2PC Dominator shutting down when playing demanding games such as Elite Dangerous and Cities Skylines. I thought the issue lied in the broken CPU heatsink mount that's affixed to the motherboard or faulty sensors, but after buying a new motherboard, the problem persists. My only guesses are the problem is either with the CPU or the GPU. Is there any way I can narrow down the problem to one of these two components? Or do you folks have any suggestions as to where else the issue could be appearing from? I've ran diagnostic tests on the RAM, a

For some reason I'm having some inexplicable issue with my Asus Tuff B360 motherboard. Got everything setup and installed just fine but when I shut down at night, the LEDs of everything in the case stay on, the fans whirl (sometime nervewrackingly heavily) and I have to hold the power button to shut down fully which I know can't be good for it. I've tried stuff in the BIOs, reformatting, and so much more and I'm not sure what to do to fix it. or what could be wrong at all for that matter..

So I have been having an issue with my laptop for sometime now where it will randomly restart during use and when not using it. I first thought it might be over heating and restarting. But I would be able to use for hours after it would restart. I tried cleaning it just incase but still didn't fix it. Yesterday and today I noticed that it was completely shut off even though it was in sleep mode. So i figured that it just shut down like it has been doing. But apon trying to restart it it won't even completely boot up. I can hit the power button and it starts the boot up but then i

So, as you may have heard, Vidme is shutting down. The reason why is not clear, but many have speculated it's due to competition with youtube (an obvious reason). As well as this, vidme has had so-called 'apocalypse'. Either way, I think it's sad such creativity has to go because of a saturated market.

This problem started about 2 years ago. At first it barely ever happened, I didn't even care at the time. Skip ahead about 1 year and I can barely play games. So my problem.. Basically when playing some high-demanding games my computer suddenly just powers down, this isn't like if you were to press shut down on the computer, I'm talking like the power just went out type of shutdown. Naturally I assume this is a problem is the psu going bad, right? Well I go ahead and replace it, for a while there was no problem. Skip ahead another 6 months, and I'm back where I started. So now I decid

Hey guys, So my buddy contacted me this morning saying that his computer is broken. He was playing Dota 2, and all of a sudden the computer crashed. So he told me this: Whenever he starts his computer - and goes into any application - the computer will freeze for 15-20 seconds, give a black screen and restart. He's been having trouble getting his CD drive to eject or detect a certain disk for the last week, and after about 10 restarts today it ejected the disk and it seems to have maybe solved the issue. Also, (after countless times of me telling him

This issue is driving me nuts, i had this laptop Toshiba Satellite L755 for over 4 years now, it has an Intel Core i7-2670QM processor, Nvidia Geforce GT 525M and 8GB of RAM, i never had any overheating issues or sudden shutdowns, i used to play the infamous game Rust on it without any issues, i traveled somewhere and left my laptop home for like 10 months or so, when i came back and turned it on, it started shutting down, i wasn't running any games, but it kept shutting down, so i formatted it and installed the latest driver updates, and before that i disassembled it and cleaned whatever i co
