This might be wishful thinking but i have a block of aluminium and was wanting to get it cut to the rough shape of a ps4 controller. Anyone know if its possible to do it though machining? Drawing1.pdf Drawing2.pdf Drawing3.pdf

I have some sort of weird skin thing where holding a plastic mouse has been causing pain for my thumb pointer finger and the palm of my hand I would really love to get a metal mouse and possibly keyboard... Price really isn't an issue as long as it ships to New York. I use the Logitech m570 and Elecom ex-6 m-xt3urbk Which are both trackball mice yes I prefer a trackball but at this point I don't have a choice. I was looking at the teamwolf immortal aluminum and stainless steel structure mouse but any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Carbon fiber might also be an option Edit: if anyone else has had problems with their skin while using computer mice please let me know my doctor is baffled.

Hi. I want to apply the conductonaut LM to my laptop CPU and GPU. I am curious of how thermal pad can be used to protect from LM leakage instead of electrical tape. Futhermore, electrical tape tends to insulate heat. So, will thermal pad do any different? Can I even do that? Sorry if it doesnt make sense. Thanks in advance.

Hello! I heard that there can be problems using liquid metal... if i delid my i5 8600k(without heatspreader) and use a be quiet dark rock pro 4, can this cause any problems? The attachment is the data from bequiet directly. it says something with aluminium there. Thanks guys! Zero DRP4-DR4_db_en.pdf

I have been thinking of upgrading my Clevo p870's cooling powers with a nice and cozy Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. The two GTX 1080s and i7 6700k would benefit from the chill out time. The CPU is pretty normal, gets up in the 80s, but nowhere near the limit of 95, however, the GPUs get to 91 and stay there while under real stress (gaming and rendering mostly). The problem comes from the safety department: It says it should not operate under 10 Celsius, however, I happen to live in a country where winters tend to get to -15 or even -20 (in the area where I live) and I do carry my computer around in a backpack. Obviously I don't intend on running it in the snow, but due to how courses work, I won't always be able to wait 10-20+ minutes for temperatures to normalize, so do you think it would be able to support that, or should I just pick another product, like Coollaboratory Liquid Pro and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut? Yes, I am talking about both on the outer side of CPU IHS and on the die itself and also on the GPU dies. Also, how well would the liquid metal solutions work in the context of being in a backpack, so a lot of movement on all axis? Technically speaking, I understand tha the safest bet is Kryonaut, but if I could get better results, I would like to be well aware of them. Thank you, community!

Hi, I'm trying to find a nice cheap affordable laptop, mainly for common class work (Eg, google drive / google docs, slides ex) I'm not realy looking to spend anything much over $100 - $150 USD an im not wanting a laptop with chrome os I wouldn't need a lot of storage as i picked up 5 - 6 of the "back to school" Walmart 32 gig 2.0 usb flash drives. The essential's would be long lasting battery life, durability, Win10 / Win 7 I currently have a alien-ware Mx14 laptop, having a core i7, with 16 gigs of ddr3 ram, its only bottle neck's being 1.) GPU 2.) battery life 3.) Weight while the laptop itself is only 14-inch display, its still nearly 2 - 3 pounds. And overall i just don't feel safe caring it around in school. (although there is the plus of being able to play fortnite in class lmao wich i had) the realy only thing iv'e come across so far was this cheap laptop costing around $126.79 USD and overall it had some bad review's on amazon and seemed to sketch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0167W1VAM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0167W1VAM&linkCode=as2&tag=austevan-20&linkId=KD57XAUCFVO5O4IV&th=1 I don't realy have much a flexible budget with a cap being $175 usd so any help would be welcomed, thanks

Pretty big news that Apple is moving away from OpenGL API in favour of Metal for all apps. Will have massive implications for gaming on Apple devices and will probably come into effect in around two years: https://developer.apple.com/macos/whats-new/ https://www.pcgamer.com/developers-fear-for-mac-gaming-as-apple-deprecates-opengl-support/ If you're a game developer not using an off-the-shelf engine like Unity, this will make a massive difference to the workload involved in shipping to Apple devices, and probably mean a great deal for legacy games already on the platform. Edit: I should add, I'm a 3D Artist in a Games Studio, but my no means a Technical Programmer. I'm really just relaying info from the company's Tech Director sitting next to me as we discuss the changes in the office. So, am by no means the best person to speculate on the impact of these changes, but in lieu of another thread existing on the forum, I just thought I should spread the word.

I've run into some issues after installing liquid metal on my Asus g752 (both CPU and GPU). I used conformal coating over a electrical tape method and replaced some of the thermal pads while I was in there. I used a thin (almost too thin imo) layer of LM on both CPU and GPU. Temps look decent with around a 7-8c drop on the CPU and an actual increase on GPU (62c->68c). Issue being, why would my GPU temps go up using LM? I would expect to see at least similar temps if not lower. Then I experienced a couple of off shut offs -no BSOD, just shut off. Was also monitoring temps during shutoff with no stress test being done (youtube watching when shut off occurred) Any thoughts to why the random shut offs now? t

Hey, I was wondering if it would be possible to create a mixture of some metals that would melt at a little over 100°C so you could heat it up, apply it to your Cpu and then let it harden? So it wouldn't move inside. Because I heard about some guys using liquid metal for their laptops and worried that the metal would move.

I was on pcpartpicker.com choosing parts for fun a couple days ago, when I saw that prices sharply rose at the exact same time. Confused, I investigated and found out that at that moment (pretty much), President Trump had just issued his plan on the Steel and Aluminum tariffs. Just thought this was interesting how a couple of tariffs and the threat of a trade war can literally effect everything that involves the material.

Hi I wanted to share my experience with conductonaut. For delidding my 8700k I used a 3dprinted tool : delidder.turbo 2 from thingiverse Before Delidding, mark the position of the heatspreader with a permanent marker. It uses quite a lot of force for delidding, but it worked without damage, try on other cheap cpu's if you have'em laying around. Try to memorize, or somehow scratch a slight mark where the die was positioned on the Heatspreader. The cleaning process was straight forward, use some rubbing alcohol, Roboto (in europe), to clean everything. I used a fine sanding pad (Scotch Brite 96 15,2 x 22,9 cm Medium Pad) to sand the underside of the Heat spreader, just a bit to make conductonaut stick better, then cleaned everyting again. Now if your CPU has resistors and capacitors around the die, I used some clear varnish/paint for cars, I got a small Clear Coat Touch Up Paint with Brush kit and painted the blank pins on top of the 8700k. For the application of the conductonaut I first pressed out a little bubble on a sheet of paper to get a feeling for it, then i put that bubble on the die. You have to use the absolute minimum to get a filling silver coat, no puddles!!! If there is a little puddle you can suck it up with the conductonaut seringe. On the Heatspreader: also put a minimum on there, and "paint" the conductonaut within the markings you've made earlier. Now it's time for relidding, I used something like "Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker" and just used 4 drops on every corner of the Heatspreader. Than put everything in the delidder/rlidder tool and pressed it together. After 30 min, I put everything back on the Motherboard. Since my AIO has a copper plate, I also used conductonaut on there, always apply on both sides, and always sand the contact areas a bit (exept the die!!!) After the modification, my CPU had a drop of 15° with the same settings, in prime95. It runs a lot more silent now. Because this went so awsomly well I also used it on my Laptop (Lenovo Y50-70), which resulted in much cooler -10° temperatures, and autoclocks higher. On the PS4 pro (it has a copper coolerplate YAY!) which went from dyson like in horizon zero dawn, to very modest Fan noises. On my Good old PS3 Phat between the Cpu/Gpu's and heatspreades (what a pain to get those of...) which went from very loud in GTAV to nearly silent (unbelieveable), Here you can't use The conductonaut to the cooler, because contact plate is made out of aluminium. For those three the clear coat paint on the compnents around the dies is a must. I hope I could summarize the whole process for some people, if there are questions, just ask, and post your experiences too if you like

Hello Floatplane peeps! I recently swapped my logic board in my mid 2012 retina MBP with a early 2013 board. Rocking a 2.7 i7 16GB vs 2.2 i7 w/ 8GB. Idle thermals are pretty crap, sitting around 50/60c. Not sure about ambient temp but I have a basement apartment and live in Canada lol. Just bought some Liquid Metal from thermal grizzly, has anyone on here used it on their MacBooks yet? How are things going for you temp wise? Also if anyone has a mid / early 2013 retina MBP, you can upgrade the airport card to the late 2013 / mid 2014 card to get AC Wifi and unlock with your Apple Watch!

I’m looking at an ASUS 1060 Dual OC which has what appears to be an aluminium heatsink with copper plating at the GPU contact area. I know about the gallium and aluminium problems. Long story short, is it ok to use liquid metal with copper plated aluminium?

Hi guys, i bought the new MSI GS65 8RF. I was wondering if it is possible to to liquid metal cool it? The heat-pipes are made out of copper. But i don´t know wich metal the CPU and GPU chips are made of or if the heat-pipes are in direct contact to the chips. I was thinking about buying the Thermo Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal. do you guys have any recommendations?

I was going to try out some Liquid Metal on a CPU in my laptop. I know that you can use nail polish to protect the SMD's but does it have to be a certain kind? I don't know shit about nail polish but my girlfriend has a bottle of clear nail polish but it's like, "gel top coat" or some shit like that. Can I use that? Does it have to be a different kind?

Hello, as you've read im asking about liquid metal, most videos I've seen about delidding a 7700k people would put the TIM (in my case it will be thermal grizzly conductonaut) on the die and then go on to putting the IHS again. Some people put it on both the die itself and also on the IHS section that makes contact with the die. now my question is, is it really worth it to put it on the IHS also? or just putting on the die will be enough? I dont want to put too much so as to have it overflow by putting the TIM on both sides. also should I put thermal grizzly between the IHS and the CPU block (kraken x52 copper) so it should not do anything to it, but is it really worth putting some there or just some NT-H1 will be enough? Edit: I also have some arctic silver 5 left over just in case

I am fixing to run three lines of Ethernet to my Living room from my Current switch. I am unable to run the cables inside the walls (Double wide Mobile home FML) so a surface run is my only choice. I am trying to figure out what I should use to hide the wires and make it look nice. I was just wondering if I used a metal conduit or Raceway, Would it impact the performance of the Ethernet cable? Im currently running Unshielded twisted pair.

Hey, I recently started getting into Metal and, so far I really like what I've heard so, I wanted to ask someone who knows more about the genre for some recommendations. So far I looked around Spotify and, I've been enjoying some songs on a playlist called Trash Metal.

Hello guys I am looking for Headphones from 50 to 100 Euros (1Euro = 1.19Dollar). They should be wireless and I am not an Audiophile so as long as they have bass and a decent sound I will be satisfied. Now to the important part, they need to be out of metal. Of course not the whole headphones but a big portion of them. I would like them to have some weight and to feel the quality of the metal rather than the cheap plastic most headphones have these days. I cant search for those on google because i only get recommendations for headphones suited for metalmusic. Thx in advance for all replies.

Laptop for school and a bit of light gaming?
Ellsta5 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I need a laptop for school and I also want to run some games on it, so I want a discrete GPU. Does anyone have a suggestion? My budget is about $1760AUD (1340USD), and a metal casing is a must. Thanks in advance.
