My bank is such a headache when it comes to paying for things internationally since they often declines the payments, even though I have my card set to accept worldwide payments and also set to allow all internet purchases. Unfortunately, not all sites support PayPal. Didn’t LTT have a sponsor for generating virtual credit cards? Any ideas?

Hello! The reason I'm writing this post is because I can't find any good information regarding this specific question online. I'm going to be taking an extended trip to Spain this spring and I'm currently figuring out what I'll be doing for my tech needs (international plug adapters, SIM cards, etc;) I have an iPhone 13 on Verizon in the US with my Verizon phone number, which also supports WiFi calling, and that feature has come in particularly handy in rural areas where cell service is crap. My question is, if I have an unlimited data eSIM in Spain (through a provider such as holafly, for example) would I be able to send/receive calls and texts on my US Verizon number via "Wi-Fi calling"? Or do I have to give Verizon hundreds of dollars for an international plan.

So i'm planning to continue my studies in Canada, my home country is part of ASEAN (saw some specific scholarships, so this may help) For TL:DR read the bolded text. I have done some 'research' and i'm going to send an email to the Canadian Embassy for my country, and i also decided to ask here because LTT is a Canadian company I figured there may be experienced people here. I'm currently studying in a 4 year Vocational school ( got about 1 year left), it's a Vocational High School for Chemical Analysis how i got here (and why i'm not gonna apply for jobs) is another story, i'm still trying to know which of the studies i should take, and chemistry might not be one of them as i am more adept at physical work, which helped with some specific laboratory techniques but the one thing i'm quite fond of this school is the Microbiology (Analytical instruments are a close 2nd but still, chemicals though). The biggest reason I decided to post in a forum is to read other people's experience, not just hear the ones that made a Youtube vid. You could be a local who was involved in some way or you could be the one experiencing it. Is there an online resource that is dedicated to find the available studies of all available universities or educational intitutes, where else should i look what to avoid. (I would like to hear your experiences) I have looked into some of the available resources, and the first idea is i will get a part time job when i get there, as my mother said they (my parents) could fund my study as the cost of studying in Canada was suprisingly not that far from the costs of my brothers studying here ( i have 2 brothers, one of them is still studying). I have tried looking for scholarships, but i or my school doesn't fit their criteria, my grades dropped in year 1 to 2.5 due to personal reasons (mainly unresolved trauma i guess, or dysthymia). It's easier for me to overcome my shotcomings by physically being active, so i probably wouldn't perfrom well with a desk job. I'm close to my 2nd older brother, and he's studying IT so i asked if he would like to continue his studies in Canada aswell (his english is also good), and he said he would after working for a year and the reason i added this is because LMG is a Canadian tech company he has a better chance at a scholarship. (I talked with my mother first cause she is more reasonable to talk to, and an FYI she's not my birth mother, and as i type this that might be the reason she could be more 'true' with her discipline i guess)

Hi all! I'm trying to find out some information pertaining to companies that provide top of the line cybersecurity to online businesses that are based both in and outside of the US. I am based in the Caribbean and there aren't much if any IT companies that provide this feature. I hope someone can help.

Hi, So I search for new PC and I think about building one my own but I don't really know how to assemble the pieces and got confused from the assortment. So I would like to spend up to 2000$ (US $) and want to have the best out of this investment. Also because of the location there is need to include the shipping costs. This PC should serve me for gaming (of course), Software engineer (first degree) and little bit of editing (simple Photoshop/Illustrator/Premier editing). It won't have to include mouse, keyboard, monitor and speakers although it will be very nice if it would (especially monitor so I prefer monitor over the others). Thank you all, can't wait to see the comments ?

Hi there everyone! I've been a long time follower of LTT and all it's various affiliated groups and channels. I've listened to the Wan show a bunch and figured here might be a good place to ask some questions about tech. I've been following the release of the Galaxy S10 more closely than just about any other piece of tech, and am eager to make the upgrade from my Galaxy S8, which unfortunately has seen some severe screen burn-in. I've narrowed down the different devices and have decided that the standard S10 has the best price and features for what I'm looking for. I'm planning on waiting for the price to drop a tad bit, and for my contract with my S8 to end in the beginning of May, 2019. I am currently with Verizon. I'm a sucker for the color green. I've always purchased black or silver phones because most of the other available color options don't really appeal to me, but this year I am in love with the prism green model, but wouldn't you know it, it's not getting released in the United States. I was sorely disappointed, until I noticed that the international version of the prism green phone is available on Amazon, and a good bit cheaper than the US version, no less. I've done some research on GSM, CDMA, and all the details of buying an unlocked international phone, and I can't seem to make heads or tails of whether or not this phone will actually work with Verizon. I've looked at forums where a lot of people say it will work, but might not work in certain areas. I've contacted Samsung twice. One representative said it would work, one said it wouldn't. Verizon said they would need to check the IMEI, but expects that it would work. I'm still not really sure who to believe. There is also the question of whether or not I would receive a warranty. I do tend to take good care of my phone, so I'm not super worried about it breaking, but I have had Samsung replace my AKG earbuds that are included twice already with my S8, because they tend not to hold up for more than a few months. I'd hate to see my new ones break and not be able to get them replaced/fixed. All in all, is it worth it to get the better deal on the international phone, and to get it in green? Or should I play it safe and get the black version from Verizon? Would appreciate any insight on this, or any opinions related to the idea in general. Much appreciated! For reference, this is the model I am looking at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NZVRK97?pf_rd_p=c2945051-950f-485c-b4df-15aac5223b10&pf_rd_r=4R0B89GFSFGPGF07GZTR

Now my sister wants to get a laptop for a husband as a birthday gift and she asked me. Thing is I have not been keeping up with the gaming laptops of the world or anything tech related for about 1.5 years. Even though I have been gone quite a short while a lot has happen and I am lost . I am thinking about telling her to get the Alienware 15 as they have a discount going right now for their product. The configuration im going for has a $400 discount. It has a gtx 1060 6gb ddr5, i7-8750h intel core ,16gb ddr4 ram, 128gb SSD, 1TB hd, 1080p 60fps IPS monitor. It seems really good for its price. Should I tell her to get this or other brand? He likes to play game but also do normal web browsing and nothing hardcore. He does not like flashly or game looking laptop. I went for Dell also because they got a great customer service. I need the laptop company to have a great customer service and international warranty. Any recommendations would be very useful thank you very much!!!

Hello, everyone! Though I've been subscribed to LTT since... Well, young me discovered the wonders of the internet, I am a brand new member of the forums. So, apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum, and also if it's violating any of the rules of Off Topic. There was a video posted a little while ago on the main channel about hiring, and needless to say I'm interested. All things considered, it would be a bit of a stretch to believe LMG would hire a relatively inexperienced young adult, but I have quite a bit of history in sets and being a sound technician. This coupled with my passion for tech led me to click the link and begin the form... And I immediately was halted by a question. So, I came here hoping for some advice. How would I determine if I'm eligible to work in Canada, as I currently live in the south-west United States? Relocating wouldn't be an issue, as far as I can foresee, so this is really the only thing hindering me. Any advice or help is appreciated, and I thank you in advance! -ArticularSpark

Recently bought the Samsung Galaxy J8 off of eBay. Their is a stick on the top (see picture). Does it mean I have to make a call with a Southeast Asian Sim card first over 5 minutes, just so I can use my T-Mobile one? If so, that's seems absurd, what's the reasoning behind it?

Hello there everyone, I am currently stuck on an important matter where I have to ship my gaming PC oversees due me moving out back to my home country. I've bought my pc here in Argentina but as stated I'd like to bring it back to Belgium. Does anyone know of any good companies that could do that for me? I have tried to look with DHL but they don't seem to have anything within the size of a PC case. ps I do plan on removing my cooler and GPU and put that in my luggage due to it potentially break my Mobo or something else.

ArsTechnica has done a pretty good job with the following story. Reporting that recent data from incident response companies is showing that China has aggressively increased it's state-sponsored hacking programs. Not only have the attacks become more frequent, they've also apparently become more destructive, stealthier, and more resistant to responses by the entities being hacked. Source: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/11/new-data-shows-china-has-taken-the-gloves-off-in-hacking-attacks-on-us/ Personally, I do not like seeing this. This kind of escalation makes me think worse things could be coming, but maybe I'm just a worrier. Then again, even on a website who's commentor base I would describe as "heavily left leaning" are biting back at the few commentors who just want to blame the current POTUS. Saying things like "this is nothing new, the Chinese government has been doing this for decades and has always had plans for global domination". So I feel like this kinda transcends politics. At least "local" politics. A great question worth asking: At what point do we consider cyber crimes or cyber warfare to be equal to actual physical crimes or an actual attack by a "hostile nation"? At what point would a military response (whether physical or digital) be considered warranted? Please keep this civil, as it's an interesting topic. Also please read the entire article, as there is a heckin F-ton of information I did not include in this post, because it would be a fairly big wall of text.

advice 2 Build or Not 2 Build (New PC VS. Laptop)
bgsteiner posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello all, So recently I have been looking into upgrading some of my PC or most of it but I have a little but of a dilemma. In February I will be relocating for a year to Japan and will need to ship anything I will want/need there. I am not worried about shipping I know some prep will be needed if I ship an entire computer (probably best to ship in pieces) but I'll handle that when the time comes. What I'm looking at is either upgrading the parts I have now even once I get to Japan, or getting a gaming laptop for while I am over there then reselling it to upgrade my PC when I get back. I know I'll probably want to sell any laptop I use as It wouldn't get much use after upgrading my main PC. Right now I have an AMD build with a FX8350, Asus 990FX R2, GTX1070, and 16GB of Corsair vengeance RAM Which is fine besides the issues the Mobo has. I am looking at something like this but nothing is final I haven't really looked far into what I would want to upgrade to besides going to Intel. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/bgsteiner/saved/YYmnnQ I am looking to get some input on what the best possible way to go would be and if there is anything I am missing in choosing the path to go down. In regards to rebuilding my current PC now or in Japan, or getting a gaming laptop.- 3 replies

I'm about to make a purchase of around $1400, it's international shipping and I made sure the products were sold and shipped by Newegg. Nonetheless I'm still a bit scared as it's my first online international purchase, I've been scammed before, hence my paranoia, is Newegg really reliable? On another note, since I'm working outside my city my sister would be receiving the packages, is there any problem with that? (like warranty problems, refund or something) Thanks and please excuse my paranoia.

Currently the setup at my house is extremely slow and expensive satellite internet- about 500kbps up/down with datacaps for 100GB/month for around $200USD/month. Obviously very not fun. I've been looking into other alternatives, and I decided to take a look at cellular. The service is very bad, and we usually can attain one bar standing next to a third-floor window. Recently I've read online of people experimenting using satellite dishes, pointed at the nearest cell tower in order to increase cellular service stability, and then using that for internet. I'm imagining that would basically involve getting one of those cellular USB internet things, setting it up with the dish and trying to get the dish pointed at the tower. This seems feasible and I know I have an extra dish lying around somewhere, but I'm wondering if there will actually be any sort of improvement if the connection is so spotty in the first place. Perhaps instead of the dish this would be easier with a simple cellular booster, but I'm not sure how much the connection would actually improve with that, and if it would be better/worse than with a dish. Another alternative would be to use the setup in Linus's 12KM wifi video, set up a dish somewhere at a friends house within service range, get that connected to local, more powerful cellular, and beam that using the dish setup to my house. Problem with that is I'm not sure how expensive it would be, and the treeline would be difficult for the connection to navigate. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with either of the two methods described above, or knows if the first method is something that sounds technically double and is something that could work. I'm really desperate for internet solutions here as having such speeds for such a price sucks. EDIT: This isn't in the US/Canada.

If someone wins an international giveaway from a different country other than the US, do they need to pay money for the import taxes?

#illshowyoumineifyoushowmeyours This one I got from my COMPTIA SmartBrief news letter... With all of the current controversy between the US government and Kaspersky, I guess it's only normal for the behavior of American companies to be hidden from mainstream media. Both McAfee and HPE shared source code with Russia with hopes of entering the Russian Market. There is frar this could leave the US vulnerable to cyber security risks. As far as I'm aware, many government agencies and educational establishments have contracts with McAfee. I find it very untrustworthy for the sudden move to hide the source code for an antivirus software at this level. I would imagine these organizations would want to see this code to make sure they knew what was being out on their system. And if I remember correctly, didn't Kaspersky offer to open up their source code to US officials? I wasn't aware of this. Not sure why Intel would want McAfee. Is the decision not to reveal source code an initiative to safe guard Intel vulnerabilities, proprietary information, or other architectures? US officials are very worried that sharing this information with Russia couldake US assets more vulnerable. The previous sharing of source code with Russia was to be able to gain access to the Russian Market.... However, HP wanted to join in as well. Although McAfees sharing seems to have a more legitimate base, the HPE actions seem very questionable. We are constantly talking about internet security, and we seem to out a lot of blame on the US government for it's faults and leaks... However, maybe the issue isn't the government. Maybe it relies on companies that make poor decisions in hope for economic gain? Does no one think before acting? I cannot find anything specific, but what is the financial incentive in the Russian Market? I'm sure Russian government wouldn't use US companies for cyber security. http://thehill.com/policy/cybersecurity/357333-mcafee-stops-allowing-foreign-source-code-reviews

First of all I would like to tell that I'm a fan of Linus's and the other guys work since 2013 and despite never having created an account here before cause it's not a hobby of mine to use forums regularly I created my account now solely for helping to share this awesome build from a local tech news outlet ( I'm brazilian), I honestly think that this would do for an awesome vid, if the LTT crew decide to replicate the project or even it would make for an awesome mention on WAN show. I would like to set clear that if this suggestion is deemed good by the staff I'm gonna gladly and happily translate the article form portuguese to english The article follows: https://adrenaline.uol.com.br/2017/09/14/51920/montamos-um-pc-gamer-amd-na-caixa-do-ryzen/ PS: If you guys like the idea just hit this topic with a request for me to translate for you guys to read it, I'm already gonna start doing that actually cause the images are so cool

I'm thinking of buying the Moto Z2 Play and I'm wondering if the verizon version (the 32 GB, $408 one) is actually unlocked to use on other carriers and internationally like other verizon phones. I'm confused because theres a special unlocked version of the phone for $500 with 64 GB of storage and Motorola's website seems to indicate that the verizon version is not unlocked at all, but talking to verizon reps they say that all their phones including this one should be unlocked. Any further information or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm living in Asia. If I bought something expensive like a laptop from Amazon how can I make sure It will deliver to my door safely? And If something happened how can I get the warranty? I think its not a good Idea to buy something from Amazon while living out of US, Europe or Canada.

Thought I'd put this out there in hope of an answer. I'm a drummer who's been desperately searching for a specific cymbal, and I found someone in Portugal selling one for about $320. However, I have no idea how to get him to The dimensions of the cymbal are 22"x22"x4" and 5.1 lbs, or 56x56x10cm, and the package will probably be an inch or two larger on all sides. The Cymbal weighs 2.3 kilos or 5.1 pounds. FedEx shipping is over $200, and DHL is almost $300. What are some ways he can ship this internationally? Regards, Aereldor.
