As stated in the title, how do I sell it? It works, and it has an original hard drive. Should I sell it on ebay?

IBM and Sony have partnered together to develop a new tape cartridge that will be capable of storing 330 TB of data or ~200 Gb of data per a square inch. For comparison, the Ars Technica article on this points out that the largest HDD are about twice the physical size of these cartridges and store 60 TB on Seagates SSD or 12 TB on HGSTs helium filled HDD, so definitely quite a bit more data density, just costs a lot more and don't expect fast read/write times out of it. However, for long term back-up storage, this would be ideal and provides a 50% increase over what is currently available in tape storage and a 60% density increase. As to how they accomplished such a feat: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/08/ibm-and-sony-cram-up-to-330tb-into-tiny-tape-cartridge/ Of course, cost, as always will be a significant factor, however, large data centers that have to backup lots of data will definitely be looking into this for the benefits of storage capacity and density.

So I joined the mech keyboard master race a while back, and am now seeking to finish off my collection of well known and respected mechs with an IBM Model M off of Ebay. However, there were several models made, and I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to explain which differences, if any, between the models should impact my decision.

I have a IBM X3560 M2 server running 2.5" sas drives in raid 1. Supported hard drive info is hard to find and often pretty vague. I would like to upgrade to 300gb drives but I would like some kind of reassurance whether the 3650 M2 will accept them.

IBM Researchers believe this new prototype technology will enable ultra-dense, low-power, and massively parallel computing systems that are especially useful for AI applications. The researchers tested the new architecture using an unsupervised machine-learning algorithm running on one million phase change memory (PCM) devices, successfully finding temporal correlations in unknown data streams. Hi guys, I want to work on a rather cool project for my next laptop, I want to use one of intel's new Mini-SFX motherboards in a laptop, however i knew that i would just NEED that laptop to be a thinkpad, and i need a laptop to be very thick in order for the NH-L9i cooler to fit, now i plan to cram 8GB of DDR4 RAM into this beast to start with, and I would either go for a 7600T CPU or an AMD Raven Ridge APU if AMD are able to use this form factor, this would mean I would have one of, if not the most powerful thinkpads, I think that this would be bloody amazing, however I have run into an issue, i simply cannot source any G40/1 laptops anywhere, Would anybody mind helping me find one, and also could somebody give me some indication of price that i would have to pay for this laptop, Thanks -NerdModeEngaged

Hi, so recently I posted a wanted add on Craigslist for free old computers to tinker with, and one of the people that gave me an old Pentium D IBM computer along with some IBM DOS manuals, and on top of that, the old lady said since you were willing to pick up the manuals, she gave me her old 1993 IBM Model M keyboard. At first I thought this keyboard would be some old proprietary thing, but I saw that it had a PS/2 connector and so I connected it to my desktop and it still works. I googled the keyboard, every website said that this was the best keyboard ever made and how it's considered the legendary and gold standard of keyboards even today in 2017, 31 years later... Why is this keyboard considered "legendary" and the gold standard of keyboards? Should I keep it around or just sell it off to someone on eBay?

From the Washington Post So basically encrypt the data more, and faster, so it's harder to steal. Great. Still expensive as though, so small business probably won't adopt it.

I have just received word from a source I cannot name that IBM is preparing for a 2017 power play AGAINST silicon giant Intel in the storage and networking spaces. In its competition against the likes of EMC, NetApp, Nimble, and Pure... IBM will be SHEDDING the high cost of integrated Intel-based processors and controllers in favor of smartphone insustry giant Qualcomm offerings. I tis no secret that All-flash and Adaptive Flash storage arrays are the new standard in enterprise market and this momentum surely fuels the decision by big blue to get as much pargin in this paradigm shift as possible before CACHE storage becomes the new standard sometime in 2018. This has HUGE implication, as AMD also stands to wrench away a good chunck of the consumer market with their RYZEN (formerly Zen) product line in the next quarter. Thoughts? Concerns?

Hopefully this is the right topic area to post this and this is my first post too :3 So I found this old IBM T42 in my house, got it running with windows 7 32-bit with 1Gb of ram. Any ideas what would be fun to try with this laptop. Played with Linux on VMs at uni but I was just going to open this up and take it apart and then throw it away. I'm open to suggestion

I have an old IBM ThinkPad R52 running Windows XP Professional which I have been using as a spare computer. I noticed the hard drive was about to crap out as the laptop was running very slowly and the drive was making some very abnormal clicking sounds. Everything was working up until this point so I used Macrium Reflect to image the drive and bought another hard drive. Shortly after I had done this, the hard drive gave up and fully stopped working. Today I restored the image that I made of the old drive to the new one and the laptop booted up fine but was still running slower than usual. I thought that it would be a good idea to use the IBM Rescue and Recovery environment to restore the computer to its factory settings. I rebooted the PC and used F11 to boot into the recovery environment and it brought up a message which read 'Missing Operating System'. Browsing through the backup, all of the files for the recovery environment are on the hard drive but the computer cannot find them during boot. Please help!!!

There were rumors about Dr. Lisa Su leaving AMD and going to IBM. She has come forward and claimed that rumor is not true. This obviously has everyone speculating on why would she leave AMD at this point when it's doing so well. but then I started thinking about the other important VIP's who have left to work for other companies over the years like Ryan Shrout a tech journalist CEO joining Intel along with many other VIP moving to Intel. All these tech VIP migrations are leading me to speculate WHAT IF all the tech companies are secretly working together to ensure that none of them fail because they know competition is important for thriving businesses. What if they are intentionally moving the smartest minds to the companies that are hurting the most in order to bring those companies back up off the floor and get them back on their feet. Now that AMD has gotten back on its feet, everyone's flocking to Intel trying to save them from falling. and IBM has been declining in the market for the past 3 years so perhaps there is talk of moving tech VIP's over to IBM in order to help keep them afloat. At the end of the day we are all tech nerds who want to see great things happen with technology. We want to see innovation and improve performance staying cool and using less power! It wouldn't surprise me if the tech giants are working together to achieve the same goals using different methods! But that's just a theory, a crazy Terry theory, thanks for listening :P

I got an Pentium 4 IBM PC from one of my cousin. It was his old work PC and he was about to junk it when I decided to take it in my shelter and maybe try to have some fun with it. As a millennial, I have been blessed with hdmi ports for most of my adult life and forgot all about vga's and rgb ports. My goal with this pc: ideally it is to checkout the specs, it's probably not worth upgrading, and just have fun restoring it. Where im stuck at: I don't even know which port to use for video output. I've tried using just the VGA to VGA but my monitor doesn't support it. I've tried VGA to hdmi adapter with no results. See attached pictures for ports. Is there something that I'm doing totally wrong? Which port do I even use? What are these green ports, I don't think those are VGA so what are they? HELP!!! Thank you all in advance, Abu

Hey guys, I just started out with Google analytics and AdWords as a side hobby and now I am certified for both of them. This made me wonder which other certificate I should acquire to be able to land a good paying job(though freelancing is my thing). Also I have started with aws and azure. This made me wonder whether I should get certified (entry level) with all the three platforms or just follow one for my career. My focus is big data and thus it would be great to get some veterans advice

One night while searching for a decent listing of my favorite IBM keyboard, the KB-8923, I started to look for a more compact layout and something newer... This led me to what I learned is called "TenKeyLess," (TKL for short) or 87-key models. I knew they existed, I just didn't know of many, and rarely see them out in the wild. Like many, I've long grown tired of those excessive keys on the side taking up extra space on an often poorly designed panel. During the search, I came across one that had the cleanest, most appealing design of all; the Leopold FC-750R. Although I don't care for the use of the obsolete mini-USB port, I'm very interested in the replaceable keycaps with modern Cherry-MX switches-- and the surprisingly durable under-structure. So at this point I know what I want, but I can't exactly get it 100% right because of how parts are marketed... I narrowed it down to 2 color schemes of the FC-750 that definitely have my attention; Graphite Blue (or Sky Dolch... whatever that is...) and Ash Yellow. As you can see, the blue one is visually appealing, but I absolutely HATE that ugly brown for the main keys. Call me picky all you want, but I think everyone can agree that any shade close to cerakote utterly clashes with the beauty of the outer area and simply does not work with this black and blue theme. I mean, blue is great, but the brown doesn't fit on anything other than retro-themed layouts. Next, the Ash Yellow is stunning; the sharp color contrast gets the attention of all who see it and really "jumps out" in terms of visibility-- I swear, I could see this is a pitch black room with no backlight and no screen-- it's that kind of bright yellow. To be clear, there are very few cases wherein yellow is an acceptable color for anything, much less a keyboard. The problem here is that it's too stunning; bright yellow works on the space gray keys, in fact they even compliment each other; but yellow on black is generally too pronounced. From an enthusiast standpoint, I feel almost blinded by the yellow-on-black outer keys. But the soft gray keys provide that mild semi-retro appeal (keyboards from the early to mid 2000's) and with solid yellow legends to offer added visibility. Here's my dilemma: both cost $119 USD, and only come as complete assemblies. I've tried an failed to locate individual keycaps or sets of them in the schemes seen here, after looking at several known sites that sell key cap sets. I want the first model shown, but I need to replace all the brown keycaps with the gray ones shown on the second layout. And yes, I'm keeping the legends as they are, so the layout I desire here is Ash Yellow for the primary keys (and applicable F- keys) and Black/Sky Blue for all secondary/outer keys. Just short of defaulting to my original favorite, I could go for broke and get both layouts, configure the one I'll keep the way I want it, and then either resell the second unit with the inverted layout, or keep it for parts or as a spare. But, that's super expensive. A single legacy KB costs enough as it is, so how would I justify ordering 2 of this exotic new one? What should I do? Maybe wait 'til I can afford both? Or just go with the old one I already know and love? And DO NOT tell me to contact one of those keycap makers to order custom caps. That still costs more, and communication of any kind other than F2F always gets me nowhere with companies. Believe me, I've tried that. And PLEASE leave out the lousy "you could 3D print them" comments! UPDATE: Found a site where you can "build your own keyboard" with their cleverly made web design, and managed to get a general image of what my idea looks like: I know, not as cool as one might think, right? Upon realizing how ridiculous the color scheme would be, I set my idea to the side in favor of something similar and better. Then, I came across this odd listing for the FC750R-PS (instead of PD) which seems to be particularly favored in Korea, but with a couple units available in the U.S for the slightly higher price of $180 (likely for extra import charges). Not my absolute favorite, but I think it will be once I get used to having that metallic gray style on my desk again. (I had an SK-1510 for a long time with an OEM gray layout, and it was the first model I called a favorite) This is the only reasonable quality image I can find of the PS model aside from a handful of YouTube videos...

So i just got my hands on an old ibm xseries 226 server, im thinking about changing the included single core xenon cpu with 2 Xeon X7460 to get 12 cores, they have the same 604 socket so in theory they should work. Does anyone know if the Xeon X7460 is compatible with the server's motherboard? thanks

any other Thinkpad fanboys here? I got a t420, thinking about buying a custom motherboard from some chinese company in shenzhen they make custom motherboards for older laptops with newer quadcore processors, usb 3.0, m.2 x4, etc it has all the classic ports and 4:3 aspect ratio currently, they are about to go out of business D: It'd be nice if Linus made a video about it, i think one of his people uses a Thinkpad its basically what the anniversary edition thinkpad should've been https://weidian.com/item.html?itemID=2247042080&wfr=qfriend&ifr=itemdetail https://forum.51nb.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=117&page=1 first pic is x210 (x201 with 8650u) second is x62 (x61 with 5250u) third is T70 (T60 with 7700hq)
