Hi. I'm getting a ZyXEL USG 110 from work to use at home. That is a quite powerful firewall, and i would like that to encrypt my data, rather than my PC. I'm currently using beevpn.com as a provider, but i already contacted them regarding using the USG110 as a client, and that is not possible with them. So, do anyone know of any VPN provider that can connect to that firewall? I'm located in Denmark, and my internet speed will be 100 mbps when i move in the near future.

So last time I posted a topic the answers were pretty good. I asked whether windows 10's pre-built firewall security is good enough to defend you from doing great normal day to day stuff. This includes downloading stuff from verified websites like steam or going to your college's website to download some assignments. Does it also protect you when you sign into sensitive things like Gmail or other stuff like that? Signing into my college? Am I protected while YouTube browsing? P.S I'm a noob

Hello! I'm a noob who is getting into computer building and learning how programs work. My question to you all is can you customize windows 10 fire wall and defender so that it's justill as good as a third party security? If so how would I go about doing this?

Hello, I'm a new user to Windows 7 and I've managed to figure out everything except for one very annoying issue with Windows Fireall/Logitech Gaming Software. When I have Windows 7 firewall enabled, my Logitech G19 keyboard won't work. The media controls will work, but the keyboard itself won't work (I can't type & macro keys won't work). I can see & open the Logitech gaming software via my notifications area & the software does start automatically each time I start Windows 7. I've gone into device manager already and made sure that it wasn't just the computer forcing the keyboard to sleep via the USB hub options. I'm hoping someone has an idea. I have LCore.exe added to "allow programs to communicate..." section. I have the following inbound rules setup (Windows Firewall set these up itself & I have no outbound rules): Logitech Gaming Framework All Yes Allow No C:\program files\logitech gaming software\lcore.exe Any Any UDP Any Any Any Any Logitech Gaming Framework All Yes Allow No C:\program files\logitech gaming software\lcore.exe Any Any TCP Any Any Any Any Logitech Gaming Framework All Yes Allow No C:\program files\logitech gaming software\lcore.exe Any Any TCP Any Any Any Any Logitech Gaming Software All Yes Allow No C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\LCore.exe Any Local subnet TCP Any Any Any Any Logitech Gaming Software All Yes Allow No C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\LCore.exe Any Local subnet UDP 54045 Any Any Any

I'm tracking some of the IPs one of my games connects to to establish a connection to a master server. I want to add these IPs to a firewall rule, however I'm finding that these IPs vary and not what I'd call "standard" addresses. Take a look at the two I've found (they're non-private): ec2-54-187-136-153.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com ec2-54-213-198-253.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com So I want to put both of them into a range, but I don't know if that would be possible. How would I go about doing that? Something like this?

Hello! So I was given 2 ammo cans. A 50 cal. one and some other smaller can. They are both fac new. My idea is to take the big can and make a computer out of it. I have the parts from an old intel atom pfsense box that I want to reuse. The board is an soc atom mini itx board, which fits in the can nicely. Here are some pictures of what I have currently done: So its pretty much an unsuspecting ammo can. I want to keep the water-proofness of the can. I have already tested both cans in 10ft deep water for leaks, and they passed. Here is what the box looks like when you open it up. I am going to replace the cardboard with something better. Any suggestions of material? I want it to be something pretty easy to use. And this is what the box looks like with the cardboard cover off. The cpu has a passive cooler, and the metal of the case pulls the heat away from it easily. So what are your suggestions? I was going to add a waterproof power connector, along with 2 waterproof ethernet jacks.

DNS Server resetting and Windows Firewall turning back on
Rockingcreeper34 posted a topic in Windows
Lately, my DNS server on my Broadcom Gigabit LAN on my Asrock Z77Extreme 4 motherboard has been resetting. And then it changes for no reason to this Also, I will turn off my Windows Firewall, because I run game servers, and I will leave the room to go to school. When I get back, The Firewall has been turned back on, and the DNS Server has been reset! This is supposed to look like this. Any help, because it gets really annoying, and I've missed some important things regarding my family because of this. -
If you need to know what kind of hardware I intend to put in this thing, here's a list of parts I'm considering: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D6hjjX I've been wanting to build a more robust NAS for some time now (as opposed to the out-of-the-box one we have now). I've been looking into what pfSense offers in terms of a firewall at the router level. Combined with a routing table and DNS server, I could have much more control and security over my network traffic. My old NetGear Nighthawk would be relegated to being nothing more than a wireless access point once the server took over routing duties. So in summary, these are the tasks I would want out of this server NAS DNS router network level firewall I know of various OS options for a NAS and I know of pfSense for a router/network firewall. But should all this live in a single OS? Is there even a single OS that can do all that? And if VMs are necessary, or even just recommended to keep certain things separate (like keeping the NAS only on the local network), then what base OS would be a good option to handle the VMs?

My old firewall expired recently and I need something to protect my PC until I can pay for another subscription. Does anyone know of any free anti virus/malware software?

Hello, I have a 2 bay Synology nas and I want to expand my storagecapacity. I first thought to buy a 5-bay nas but they are quite expensive. For the same amount of money, I could build my own much more powerfull nas. I'm just left with the question of which OS shall I use? I find the Synology DSM very easy to setup and userfriendly. This OS also has a built in firewall. I'm looking for a NAS OS with a GUI since I'm not a pro with commandline interface and I would like to have the OS a firewall that is relatively easy to setup. I want to use this nas to share my data at home and I also want to be able to share with the world by creating a sharing url. It would also be very handy if I can access my data from anywhere else. At the time I'm also asking myself if it is necessary to have a firewall on a NAS? Can this firewall job be done by a standard touter such as the TP-link Archer C7? I tried Freenas and it looked very stable, but I want to avoid the tons of ECC RAM and it has no firewall. I also tried Nas4FRee, OpenMediaVault and Ahami but these have no firewall and don't have as much options as Freenas. I Saw videos on youtube of LinusTechTips where the OS's Rockstor and Unraid are mentioned. Do These have a firewall? Are there any other suggested OS's? All help, tips and suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

GlassWire's firewall software reveals threats your antivirus missed. You can use the base service for free, or pay to upgrade for additional protection. Some of the extra features that you can get are things like remote connection, lock down mode, figuring out who's on your WiFi or network, and more! They've recently launched GlassWire for Android as well. Check out GlassWire’s firewall software: http://geni.us/glasswire Check out GlassWire’s Android app: http://geni.us/glasswireandroid

I wonder if any of u guys can help me out here. I have been using RealVNC for months to connect to anyone of my other computers around my home wirelessly. A week or so ago my ASUS RT-AC66U died a death and i replaced it with an ASUS RT-AC87U. Since the switch i cannot connect to any of my pcs anywhere i get the error "timed out waiting for response from host computer". I have checked and double checked and i know the IP addresses im attemping to connect to are right, Ports are forwarded correct and firewall rules in place, does anyone know what could be the issue? Thanks.

Hi, im currently learning a lot networking (going for my CCNA) so i decided to build a server. Im still not so sure what hardware i should use. I hope you guys can help me. What the server should do: Running VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6.0 VM with Arch Linux and ZFS VM with Sophos XG Firewall VM with MediaServer maybe Kodi (VM with little Game Server or Website) maybe Hardware i want to use: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2670 ~200€ Intel S2600CP2 or Tyan S7050GM4NR (never heard of Tyan before) ~250€ Budget for Mobo and CPU: ~800€. My question: Does the Xeon has enough performance? Or is there a better alternative? Which mobo should i use never heard Tyan before and the Intel one was some bad reviews. Any cheap ebay alternative? Should i use ECC unregistered RAM? The VM with MediaServer and Website need to acess my ZFS VM is this VM setup fine with esxi as base or should i go another way? Does it make even sense to run the firewall in a VM?

Do you need a third party firewall or the built in windows firewall does the job?

So I had an interview the other day and the server I built came up in conversation. Anyway so the guy asked what kind of security I had in place in order to protect it/my network. This got me thinking....what kind of security should I have in place? Is everything already secure enough as it is? My router (Asus RT-AC68u) has a built in firewall, which is enabled and I also have Trend Micro running on the router. I have VPN running on my router allowing me to remote into my network (and thus into my server), and I also have enabled Plex remote access on my server as well, so I can access my server just by logging into plex from anywhere in the world.

Hi, I am planning on building a router/firewall system (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Computers_and_Network_Engineer/saved/X98D4D). Will this stay cool? It may be handling up to 5 vpn connections (most), and other type of traffic. Thanks Max

Hi, I am planning on building a router/firewall in a 1U case, I just don't know what power supply to use. People have recommended a power supply like the Seasonic 200 or 250. http://seasonic.com/product/ss-200-su-active-pfc-f0/ But I cannot find anywhere what sells them. Does anyone know or have a better power supply? It will need to be about 100W+ and the lower the price the better but reliable. Thanks, Max

Hello! I recently created a CSGO server on my Dell Poweredge 1950. It is open to the public and I want to make sure I am safe from things that shoudnt be happening. Should I build a pFsense machine off a spare PC or just buy a used WatchGaurd Firebox. I can also get software firewalls. Which is the best? I have a full rack so if the switch matters etc it is a Dell Powerconnect 2724. Thanks! Matthew

Hi all, So I need some help with my Windows server 2012 R2, I'm currently using it as a Plex Media server as well as storage server for docs etc, I'm very familiar with the O/S so am OK in that respect my issue is with Port security and access to my server remotely. I'm using the anywhere access that comes with the O/S and my current Router is an Asus DSL-AC68 - I have opened ports 443 (for Anywhere Access) and 32400 (for Plex) and everything works fine, my issue is that someone is managing to get into my network when these ports are open. The firewall in the router is on, I have anti-virus on the server an the windows firewall on yet somehow someone can manage to connect as I've noticed through the router. My question is, how do I have the ports open so as I can use these services but block them from people getting in? I have experience with pfsense also and was contemplating putting one of those in instead of the Asus however my question still stands, if I open the ports to use the services does it make any difference how good my firewall/router is? Thanks for any help you can supply on this, I'm really trying to get to grips with internet/server security.

Hi, I've got a network configured like this: Internet -> router (on 10.10.10.1) to provide addresses to devices in 10.10.10 network -> router (on 10.20.20.1) to provide wireless to other devices Problem is that from devices in 10.10.10.x I can't even get a ping to devices in 10.20.20.x network. Both routers operate on OpenWRT.
