  1. I'm building an itx "Console - Killer" machine oriented towards gaming and would like feedback on my selection of components before I purchase the remaining components. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Tornation/saved/nL8wrH Concerns already addressed: CPU cooler: addressed in this post Gpu/Case Compatibility partpicker concern: The RVZ-01b supports gpu's of =<330mm in length
  2. Hello all, I made a post a couple days ago about my PC build, and I got ALOT of GREAT feedback! I'm coming back again, just so I can get LinusTechTips' one last opinion on my (I guess) final parts for my Computer. I was also posting around other forums to get more feedback. So, once again, here is what my computer is for: Games, Video Editing with software such as Premier Pro, Schoolwork (Shouldn't be a problem), Streaming using like XSplit or OBS. Games I play are like: World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls Online, Dark Souls, CSGO, League, Osu!, Far Cry, Battlefield (Though I can't run BF4 or Hardline on my current PC D: ) I do alot of editing for Schoolwork on Premier Pro, so as long as the PC can handle having to render 20min videos with Computer Graphics, it's golden! My budget was around $1,500 - $1,800, but $1,800 was the MAXIMUM extent I would go to. Hopefully I chose the right parts to try and cut down on cost, without losing performance as much. I wanted this computer to be as forwards compatible as possible, maybe replacing the case and that's about it, kinda stuff. Keeping alot of the parts when newer parts come out. I also need a Wireless connection. Here is my (hopefully final) build parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dbfmzy CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($341.98 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($103.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($120.87 @ Amazon) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($89.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($76.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card ($352.98 @ Newegg) Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($111.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($116.81 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($102.98 @ Newegg) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($27.99 @ Newegg) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($27.99 @ Newegg) Total: $1559.54 Intro I'm not so worried about the components anymore, as most of the hardware I picked were from countless feedback from LinusTechTip Uses and others, so I feed pretty confident it will be a kick a** computer to use. I'm more worried about cooling, and other things that may cause this build to not be as great. Cooling The 4 fans I am buying are for the front and side panel fans. Mounting 2 120mm fans on the front for intake, and the ones on the side panel, and the rear for Exhaust. Airflow should kinda look like this: For the Corsair H100i, I shouldn't have to buy 2 more fans for a more effective cooling correct? The two 120mm fans that come with the Radiator SHOULD work pretty well. If you think not, why would I need to get two more fans? Should I get the H100i GTX for better performance? I am worried it will not fit in the top of the NZXT 410 since the H100i GTX is 125mm x 276mm x 30mm where the regular H100i is 120mm x 275mm x 27mm. The H100i definitely fits, since I have seen many, many people do it, so I can safely say that that will fit. Its just a little larger, but I am worried it won't fit. I called up support on this issue, and they said that they only support radiators up to 240mm. But BOTH the H100i and the H100i GTX are marketed as "240mm" radiators. But they are both actually larger in dimension, as shown above. Does the "Radiator Size" the support person was talking about not include the parts that juts out with the Water Pipes? Maybe that would make the difference with the marketed 240mm size, but have a dimension of the ones listed above? I dunno... Anyone out there know more than me about this topic? Dust I was also really wanting to keep this computer for a long time. So to help with some of the clean up, I decided to search around for dust filters. I found a site for complete custom filters for specific cases, so I am probably going to buy the Complete Dust Filter Kit. NZXT 410 Dust Filters I have a question: Do dust filters hinder or help the system? I feel like it may cause the fans to lose airflow inside the case. If anyone can help me understand, it will be greatly appreciated. GPU and Fitting Now, I do know that the GTX 970 will not fit unless I remove the extra drive bays, but personally, I am completely fine with that. I only have a SSD and a HDD, so using only the two drives at the bottom is fine. If you think otherwise, please feel free to explain. Please If you have any questions, comments, or opinions, please feel free to provide feedback! Thank you very much for your continued help and feedback! Kaz
  3. Source: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/12/11/chinese-smartphone-maker-oneplus-on-its-global-push-missteps/ I think it's really nice to see them address some of the more frequent questions. It's a learning process for all of us and I appreciate Oneplus trying to mature as they enter the market. They haven't even been up for a year yet. What they've done within that year is a bit overwhelming. Hopefully we can see some more improvements done the road. Feed back appreciated. -Majinferno
  4. Hey guys, so some microphones have a setting where it can give you an amplifier in your headphones so you get feedback of your voice, so I want to know how the hell this would work with my steelseries H wireless, because if any of you are familiar with the headset it comes with a black box which has chat in chat out and It's confusing as hell, I just got lucky when I set mine up I guess. But anyway, I have no idea how I would set up a straight USB mic which has headphone feedback to my steelseries H wireless, i'm looking at getting the new Siren mic from Razer, not 100% sure yet but it seems pretty good just for a USB mic, reasonable price I guess, I'll probably wait until Linus gets his hands on it. Don't know if any of you guys have seen it but it looks pretty neat, check their website. On that note as well it'd be nice to know what type of stands could go with that mic as i'm pretty sure it comes with a shock mount and pop filter. Anyway, thanks for reading guys I look forward to hearing back from you all!
  5. I'm looking to build a workstation PC for a friend for as cheap as possible, while still having an overclockable i7 processor. I've put some parts together and would like to see if I can get any feedback! I haven't included any software or peripherals, just looking at hardware. He will need to run software like PS6, Rhino 3D and Grasshopper, CAD Civil 3D, 3DS Max, Google Sketchup, Vectorworks, and Lumion 5, and will need to run some simultaneously. 6. Hello friends! I've been producing at home for quite some time now (mainly as a hobby). The people here seem friendly enough. I'm looking for some creative feedback. What do you like/what do you dislike? Also if you are interested in using any of my music let me know : ) I'm always looking for a new project! OH! Also I'm kinda new so woo hoo! Here is a link to a more recent track I posted: https://soundcloud.com/raz3rofficial/sweater-weater-remix Here is a link to my full soundcloud page: https://soundcloud.com/raz3rofficial Thanks friends! Have some delicious cookies for being awesome and giving me feedback!
  7. Hi everyone, I assume most of you have by now seen the new intro to the videos and I would personally like to get some feedback from the rest of you. I actually find the intro a bit too long, it starts very loud out of nowhere and then enters a bit of techno hysteria that not necessarily everyone enjoys. I think the music should stop at around the 3 second mark, or have some sort of ending there, because I find the 2 seconds after that quite annoying as I'm usually not a fan of electronic music. I'd suggest either cutting those two or maybe just making the whole intro a bit quieter. I almost feel that the outro has the same problem, however, I am by no means forced to watch the entirity of the outro, so I don't think it is as much of a problem. I am, however, kind of forced to sit through the intro to see the videos. I think the current intro would decrease the number of potential viewers because if it were an intro on a video that had come up in my suggestions, I would probably just exited the video right then and there. These are just my thoughts, I wanna hear what the rest of you think. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hello everyone, I want to build a new gaming PC since my last one is three years old. I made a list of components that I would like to buy, and would like to get some feedback if I made the right choice. I heard the new GTX 800 series will arrive soon? And what about the 4770k, will there be a replacement soon? If I should replace some stuff let me know, the price can be higher but not by too much. 10. Hello everyone, I just recently made a post in the new builds section about the new gaming rig that I'm going to be building. I want to watercool the system but am still very new to water cooling and was wondering if I could ask this wonderful community for some help. I'm looking for any type of advice, more so on components, builds, and/or setups, but everything and anything is vastly appriecated. Thank you very much, and I can't wait to hear from you guys and gals. *This is the first post if you have any advice for the system, feel free to post it in here* http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/121302-4k-gaming-system-looking-for-feed-back/ The current build is as follows: 1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Dual Classified w/ Hydro Copper Cooler 3G 384BIT SLI Ready Graphics Card 1 x Intel Core i7 4770K Unlocked Quad Core 3.5GHZ Processor LGA1150 Haswell 8MB Cache Retail 1 x ASUS Maximus VI Extreme ATX LGA1150 Z87 DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0 DVI HDMI Motherboard 1 x Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1866 240PIN C9 DIMM 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit 1 x Corsair Obsidian 900D ATX Super Tower Case w/ Window 4X5.25 9X3.5INT USB3.0 No PSU 1 x Corsair AX1200I 1200W Digital ATX 12V 80 Plus Platinum Modular Power Supply 140mm Fan 2 x Bitfenix BFA-ACL-30GK15-RP Alchemy LED Connect Lit Strip 30CM 15 LEDs - Green *OEM* 1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64Bit English DVD OEM 1 x Intel 530 Series 240GB SATA SSD MLC 2.5in 7.0MM OEM Package 1 x Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA Internal Hard Drive OEM 15 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm Japan Servo Double Ball Bearing Case Fan 3000RPM 36.5DBA 83.0CFM
  11. Hello everyone, so I plan on picking up a new gaming system as my laptop is getting on in years, and I would like to ask for some feedback/advice on the system that I'm going to be building. I'm building it on the NCIX website, and using the Corsair Dream Machine XG as the base, and have interchanged and modded the system as to fit what I would like to build. Thank you very much, I look forward to hearing from everyone. The current price tag on this system is $3500. The current build is as follows: 1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Dual Classified w/ Hydro Copper Cooler 3G 384BIT SLI Ready Graphics Card 1 x Intel Core i7 4770K Unlocked Quad Core 3.5GHZ Processor LGA1150 Haswell 8MB Cache Retail 1 x ASUS Maximus VI Extreme ATX LGA1150 Z87 DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0 DVI HDMI Motherboard 1 x Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1866 240PIN C9 DIMM 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit 1 x Corsair Obsidian 900D ATX Super Tower Case w/ Window 4X5.25 9X3.5INT USB3.0 No PSU 1 x Corsair AX1200I 1200W Digital ATX 12V 80 Plus Platinum Modular Power Supply 140mm Fan 2 x Bitfenix BFA-ACL-30GK15-RP Alchemy LED Connect Lit Strip 30CM 15 LEDs - Green *OEM* 1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64Bit English DVD OEM 1 x Intel 530 Series 240GB SATA SSD MLC 2.5in 7.0MM OEM Package 1 x Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA Internal Hard Drive OEM 15 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm Japan Servo Double Ball Bearing Case Fan 3000RPM 36.5DBA 83.0CFM Now, I plan to watercool everything, the Typhoon's are mostly for the RADS, but I'm still rather new to watercooling, so If anything has advice on this topic as well, I would very much appriecate it, I will be making a post in that section and will link it too this post, and vice versa.
  12. So if you saw or replied to my first two posts you will know that my friend and I have been working on putting together a part list on a build my friend and I came up with. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3OoGQ Another thing is, even though it doesn't look like it will need it, that i want to know if the build is capable of overclocking.
  13. To start things off, I am writing this here in hopes that @LinusTech will be able to pass this on, as I have contacted Jon on Twitter regarding this issue with no luck. It's possible that he is very busy, but as a person who really respects and loves what Jon does, I feel the need to provide some sort of feedback on the matter. Additional comments and suggestions are welcome. –---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Advertisements: My first major concern is that advertisements are taking away from TB. Not that advertisements in and of themselves are bad, but there is such a thing as way too many advertisements. When you first visit the site, for example, the whole entire front page is covered up by an ad. Why? This is something that I would expect to see several years ago but is not at all common today. This will either lead people to use ad blockers or not visit altogether. Performance: The TB website I have noticed recently is very sluggish even on my relatively high-end PC. My first guess would be the over-utilization of Flash. To minimize this, it might help to give each article their own page instead of allowing each article to be a continuing stream of information. That would probably be more cost-effective than recoding the entire website in HTML5 anyway. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and considering my input.

  16. I've been planning to build my first pc that I will be using for playing new / performance heavy games, as well as some drafting (Autocad, Revit) and mapping (ArcGIS Desktop, Quantum GIS) software. I already own a 1080p monitor, considering buying a 1440p monitor, and perhaps dual monitors in the future. Not sure where to start for peripherals, but a low priced (preferably multi-color back lit) keyboard and mouse is ideal, and I own some good Philips speakers. The parts I've planned out are within my desired budget for the pc, around 1300. Here is the list of parts I'm thinking of getting: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KwH9nQ Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KwH9nQ/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($224.97 @ OutletPC) CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($84.99 @ TigerDirect) Motherboard: MSI Z97 U3 Plus ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($125.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($73.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($53.98 @ OutletPC) Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card ($472.98 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Titanium Grey) ATX Mid Tower Case ($93.90 @ Mwave) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($87.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $1278.76 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-09-05 03:07 EDT-0400 Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I want the build to keep to a red & black theme. Also it's a MicroATX build because I don't have space for a huge case. & I plan to use the default cpu cooler for awhile seeing as how I don't plan on over clocking! Also for a hard drive I plan on just getting whatever 1TB one is on sale at my local store Please give me any feedback or suggestions!
  18. Hey, I'm thinking of building a new pc before the summer starts. I don't have a lot of experience building one. But I've done some recearch and it would be great of you could maybe give me some feedback on the parts and if it actually will work. It would also be great if you know a better option like a part with more bang for the buck. I do plan on overclocking the CPU. I want to have a computer that is great for video editing and gaming. CPU: Intel core i7 4770K Mother board: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Memory: corsair vengeance 16GB (2 x 8) DDR3 1600mhz Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SC ACX 2GB CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i Storage: I already have a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, and a WD green. Optical drive: I already have a good one. Here is the same stuff in PCPartPicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2T8w7 Please let me know if there's anything I should change for less money or better performance. my budget isn't very important but: The cheaper the better, but not if it gives better performance not more than 1400 dollar I hope you could give me some great feedback PS. I'm sorry if I posted this the wrong way or in the wrong part of the forum.
  19. Hello there! I'm about to order my very first PC, and I'm super excited! I've been thinking about this purchase for a while now, and I have decided to buy it. I will primarily be using the PC for gaming. I play a lot of different games and therefore, I would like to be able to play 'em all. I don't play FPS games though, but I might get interested in it again. I will be ordering from Denmark, since I live there of course, and the prices are a bit different, especially when it comes to Video Cards. As it looks right now, the 780 and the 290 is even in terms of price. I have a mice as well as a keyboard, but I need OS and monitor. I would prefer to get a nVidia card because I've had the best experiences with those, but I'm of course open for any suggestions. Since it's my first PC, I won't be overclocking right away, but I plan on doing so when I've tested the parts and how they perform. I will not be trying to get OC records or push my components to the limits. I'll just be playing around with it! I am somewhat of a temperature freak, and therefore I've prioritized cooling a lot..! So, this is what I have found myself: https://www.komplett.dk/k/shoplist.aspx?mode=receive&si=1338786&su=81D78F7C-08D9-4421-A56B-E0B1EF9CF446 Paired with this monitor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultimate-Perfect-Pixel-27-QNIX-QX2710-Evo-ll-Matte-QHD-2560x1440-PLS-Monitor-/271375013937?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item3f2f361831#shpCntId I hope I can get some awesome feedback! Thanks in advance
  20. So I went to check news on BF4, since I haven't in a while, and saw a list of feedback for balancing they had gotten and their views on it. At first I thought "Great! They're actually listening to the community!" Nope. I was 100% wrong. Here's a list of 10 things that were brought to their attention: Nearly all of the items listed are huge balance issues, but DICE seem to think otherwise. What the hell is the point of allowing people to provide feedback if you aren't even going to listen to it? DICE has completely thrown almost all feedback out the window. I don't think that they understand that it matters far more what the majority of the players think is balanced than what DICE think is balanced. My hope for Battlefield is dwindling more and more every day. What are your thoughts on this?
  21. Hello, I've planned out a build designed for gaming and upgradability. PCPartPicker: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2td4M Here's some information about this build. The total budget is £800 including the OS. I don't plan on overclocking, hence why I've not went with a 'K' series processor and went with such a cheap cooler. I plan on using SLI, and the MOBO that I've selected is the cheapest I could find that supports SLI. I plan on upgrading to 4*4GB: total of 16GB and not 4*8GB: total of 32GB, as 32GB is just simply overkill and I doubt that will become the 'gaming standard' for a long time. So I went with the current 'gaming standard': 8GB. You are probably thinking, "Get a SSD! They are so much better than a hard drive!". The fact is, a don't care how long it takes my computer to boot up or load up programs. I care about the in-game performance. So instead of spending £100 on a SSD, I've spread that across the rest of my components. Now, I know upgrading the GTX 760 to a GTX 770 is a good idea, it's only an extra £60 with a large performance increase. Sadly, I couldn't fit it in to the rest of my budget. Probably, the first thing you saw about my case is that it is pretty expensive compared to my overall budget, the reason for this is that I really can't be arsed moving all of my components out of the case because I can't fit everything in there. So I've just decided to go with a case that will last me a long time. Now, I do realize that this power supply has a really low wattage, this is because the upgrade from this would be CX750. But it isn't modular! I'd like the case interior to be clean, without random cables hanging somewhere. I plan on upgrading this to something with more juice when I go 2-way SLI. I'm looking for feedback and suggestions of this build, and possibly if anyone else has a similar rig they could benchmark it? If you make any changes to this build, can you leave a PCPartPicker link as well as a few sentences explaining what you changed and why.
  22. Hey guys, I was one of the winners here on LinusTechTips for G-SYNC, I saw a thread about one's point of view about it so I decided to make one as well. I don't have any pictures or video but I can try to give as much information as possible. INSTALLATION PROCESS Opening the monitor without messing up the plastic was a tad difficult but I’m sure I could have prevented it. Some latches broke upon opening the monitor, but the monitor housing closes fine. Removing both PCBs was a tad annoying due to size of the cables. There was nothing to hold the power connector metal plate so I had to remove a piece of metal shielding tape from one of the four to hold it into place. The metal shielding tapes was worn out during the process but applying pressure with a rubber gripped tool did a good job of keeping the metal plate intact. The LVDS at first didn't reach its connector port but it managed to be enough for the metal plate to be placed accordingly to the back cover of the monitor. Connecting the blue flex cable to the J6 connector was a bit of a mission. The connector wouldn't unlock and had to tinker with it. The picture in the manual shows some sort of plastic that one can grip to with tweezers but that wasn't on the physical connector itself. The display is a tad bit blurry for my liking; wish there was a way to adjust that, then again, I might just have to get used to it. All brightness, contrast and saturation configurations were done under control panel. Monitor can only adjust brightness as what I can see. GAME TESTS For those wondering, my computer specs are: CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz MB - MSI Z68A-G45 (B3) LGA 1155 RAM - Patriot G series ‘Sector 5’ Edition - 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX780 3GB ACX Cooler – SuperClocked PSU - Corsair Professional Series HX 850 Watt Displays - ASUS VG248QE 24-Inch, Asus VH242H 23.6-Inch Mouse - Logitech G500 I’m usually not a fan of a couple of features within a game’s video settings, but for the sake of this test I set the video settings for most of them with the Geforce Experience application (optimal settings), however, Vsync and motion blur were both turned off. All games are running on fullscreen; if you don't already know, G-Sync only works when applications are running at fullscreen. Let's start with Battlefield 4, the game ran smoothly until I experienced some tad “hiccups” while playing. At first, I wasn't sure if it was the game itself until I ran Crysis 3, but with all the issues that BF4 is experiencing lately I wouldn't doubt that the game was to blame. Crysis 3 was probably my favorite to test G-Sync with because it was a successful PC port for obvious reasons. I was able to run the game at the highest settings possible and not suffer the fps drop that I would otherwise experience without G-Sync. G-Sync allows me to run both games at the highest settings without the stutter and mouse lag. As for the poorly optimized game like Call of Duty Ghosts, I knew I was going to run into trouble. I tried to play Ghosts at optimal settings but I kept receiving errors and my card crashed once so I went ahead and customized the settings. The game runs better with G-Sync on; I used to experience mouse lag while performing quick movements with my mouse due to the fps fluctuation. This was an issue that bothered me the most when playing shooters because it can cause unnecessary deaths. Speaking of problems, Assassin's Creed IV: Blackflag was another problem because of the fluctuating fps that tends to range from 20-63 fps. I had to run the game on low settings, but other than that, the game plays fine. When running games less than 35 fps or so, the experience is terrible, but that was expected. I tested several other games, including Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls Online, Batman: Arkham Origins, Dayz Standalone/Mod and Bioshock Infinite, and they all performed very well; G-Sync was the missing piece of the experience. VERDICT I got used to G-Sync rather quickly since I haven’t experienced tearing in quite some time due to the high refresh rate of the monitor. Mouse lag on the other hand was a really big issue due to frequent quick mouse movements and fps fluctuation. The only problems with G-sync, personally, is that it performs poorly below 35 fps, give or take. The games lag and stutter which was expected but hopefully in the future that could be taken care of. The lack of features for setting the monitor is not really a big deal since you can set it under the control panel, however, there is no way of configuring the sharpness of the monitor which I wish was implemented. Perhaps the upcoming monitors will have a regular interface. Other than those things mentioned, I love the thing and it's another great tool for a gamer's arsenal. Thanks to those who took the time to read through this short wall of text and if you have any questions please post them. Thanks LinusTechTips for the opportunity and NVIDIA for this exciting new technology. EDIT: Added another game to the list. UPDATES: 1/30 - I should have mentioned this earlier, not sure if I'm the only one, but before modding the monitor, you used to get an orange led on your power button that indicated that the monitor was on stand by after the computer was shut down which was nice during the night. However, after modding it, it stays blue during stand by. That being said, I ran into a situation, for the second time just now, where I would turn off the monitor and upon turning it back on I would receive the "No Input Detected" prompter which would stay frozen on the screen unless you reboot. The monitor does display my computer because the computer is indeed detected but the prompter is just frozen on the screen. Unplugging/plugging the power cord of the monitor would have been a solution but it seems that windows sometimes doesn't detect the monitor after doing so. EDIT: Rewording.
  23. For my first self built PC I am planning to partition off 250GB from my WD Black 1TB for MacOS X for work purposes. Any recommendation or feedback?
  24. Hi LinusTechTips, Small feedback on your sponsor: I finally caved to one of your sponsor messages and decided to go check out Five Four Club. I ran through their fairly (if not overly) simple fasion selector, filled out my details, and stopped after I had punched in "LINUS4TH". Apparently they have a $25 surcharge per monthly billing cycle. Instead of it being advertised at "$60/month is a bargan on clothing!", it's actually "$85 a month marginally better deal on clothing!" for Canadian customers. I had sent an email to one of their account reps explaining that this is pretty intimidating for a new customer. Their clothing looks pretty high quality but I didn't follow through with the order. Conclusion: You may have a better chance paying your mother $60 a month to scout clothing stores for you (let alone $85) if you're not very good at visiting them. Thanks!
  25. Hi Guys I'm upgrading my rig and would love any feedback and suggestions you have! I'm looking the 4790K and need help fining a motherboard and ram with great synergy. The purpose of this rig is 50% video editing, 50% gaming. Budget for CPU, Mobo and Ram is about a $1000. I looked into Haswel-e, but can not afford to wait for it to be released. The rough idea for now is: - 4790K - possibly Corsair Vengance Pro 32gb, or something similar .. and then the Mobo .. The main idea is really just to find something that has good synergy, is stable and offers good performance. SLI possibility would be great, but not a deal breaker. Onboard sound or my auzentech forte. Thanks for reading! I Appreciate any thoughts, feedback and ideas!
