So let me start off by simply saying that I have no idea what I'm really looking for so I'm going to have to ask this question in a pretty broad manor and I hope this is the right place to ask. Basically, the small business I'm working with has two locations about 500 miles apart and they need to keep in touch with each other. One location keeps track of incoming product and specifications of said product and the other location has to use that information pretty much as soon as it can. Currently, the setup we are using is through Google drive because we need the availability to edit on both sides and the live update/ sync and to be able to view what another user is typing is key. However, if this method worked well, I probably wouldn't be here asking this question. What we're looking to do is upgrade to have a small business server, either physically in our office or elsewhere. We would like to use that server to have excel spreadsheets that live updates like google sheets does but that also has the ability to utilize macros. We basically need it to update as immediately as possible and to be reliable. Looking into it briefly, a few people have recommended using sharepoint but I'm not sue what that is or how that program works. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am in the market for a new laptop that would be very capable of financial modeling. I will be doing most of the work through excel and possibly some other programs. I have heard that the thinkpad's are the best bet for their price. It needs to be around a 15" screen as well as have the page up and down keys around the arrow keys. If possible, my budget is between $500-$1200. Do you all have any recommendations? Thank you for all the help!!

Hey Programmers! I haven't done any programming in several years, so I'm definitely rusty. I have to figure out how to convert an excel spreadsheet into mainframe data - specifically Passport - by macro or, if easier, another method. As long as I can get a starting point I may be able to figure it out along the way. Unfortunately I only have experience in old-school HTML and some C#, so the knowledge I have is limited to begin with. If anyone could help, I'd be most grateful. Thanks y'all!

Hey guys, I am wanting to build some sort of database for tracking everything about my personal economy, paychecks, being able to type in receipts so I can track my spending, how much money is being spent on what and so on. the features I am wanting to build include this - Being able to import my online banking transaktion statement that can be downloaded as xlsx - Inputting my incomes from different jobs - Keeping track of my sports betting, yes I bet money and I want to track it - Being able to make graphs and what not with all the accumulated data that I will be collecting after using this database/program for a few months I'd like it to be free as the reason for me doing this is mostly for fun and a bit to just keep track of my finances. I have the office pack for personal and school use so I have Microsoft Access but have read that they're discontinuing the software. Hope you guys have some suggestions that aren't too complicated to use, I don't mind doing some formulas and such, but I'd prefer to stay away from directly programming.

Hi, i have a fairly simple question with maybe a not so easy answer (atleast i can't figure it out). I have an excel document where i have collected data on different laptop models, CPU, GPU, RAM, weight, screen size, price etc. What i want to do is when i sort by a column, for example price or processor, i want a whole row to move together cause otherwise it would mess up the order of all the data. I attached the Excel doc so you can view for yourself. Dator spreadsheet.xlsx

Hi, I have a new student job and the task assigned to me is to empty option boxes in an excel documents on the onedrive of the company so they can be filled out again by the employees. The only problem is that that that each excel document has 12 tabs and that each tab contains more than 70 option boxes. I have to empty 40 such documents a week (one doc per employee). Is there a way to empty all option boxes (make them blank again) with a macro? The help is much appreciated

Good day Guys, I need help with MS Excel 365 (Desktop version). I've been trying to fix it for days with no luck. (google, youtube, forums, etc) Excel is a very important tool in my job and it has been a nightmare. Issue: All colored cells appear white (no color), if I try to color them I get a black box. (cell shading, fill color, etc) Every time I click TAB to go forward one cell, I get black cells in the whole row or sometimes in the cell I just left. When opening an excel file with this issue, I usually get a big black box covering most cells. What I tried: This does not happen to other excel files on the same pc, in the same folder. I tried "damaged" files on another pc, and everything works as it should. I create a new sheet inside the "damaged" excel file and it works fine. I tried clearing all rules in conditional formatting (I've never used conditional formation) I tried on/off high contrast on windows. These "damaged" excel files come from progressive files. What I mean is: I have file 1, 2, 3 up to 52. For every week in a year. 2 has traces of 1, and Etc. I am at file 38 (38th week in the year) when I started experiencing these issues. All files 1-38 are damaged. However, other excel files with a different names (no relation) within the same folder are OK. Finally, I've never opened file 1 through 35 in weeks, and have same symptoms. THESE FILES WORK FINE ON OTHER COMPUTERS. I attached two pictures. On picture "1" you will see a black box. I actually try to fill or shade that particular cell in yellow. Picture "2" is what I usually get when I open a "damaged" excel file; behind all black I have data. (both colored, and black and white) Sorry the long post, I am desperate. If you need any extra info, just let me know.

So I downloaded this Excel thingy that generates reports for my students. I modified the file around to adjust it for myself. The funny thing is that the program stopped working properly for some reason even though I didn't touch the code. I was hoping you could help me out. I modified some stuff in excel, but I don't see anything that is interfering with the code. The modified one is the one with all the mexican names. ¡VIVA MÉXICO! Build for software development and business analysis
TobyL posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi! I'm a law student and hobbyist programmer. I'm located in Norway. Together with my girlfriend I run a medium sized eyelash-extension salon. I'm currently using a 12" MacBook. In the past I've built one gaming rig, but that's a few years ago, and I'm not too caught up on the latest hardware. My new build will be used for two things: Software development (mainly python/node.js for web app development with Google AppEngine. I use the PyCharm IDE. This is not too demanding, and runs ok on my MacBook, but with occasional, but very annoying slowdowns. This work is not too demanding, but I don't mind spending some extra cash to have maximum performance in this area. Business analysis. I've created an Excel sheet that pulls data from Google Analytics and thousands of booking confirmation e-mails and analyses things such as customer retention, conversion rates and other trends. A few moths my MacBook was able to pull it off, however horrifically slowly (a few hours of calculation until the results were ready). The dataset has now become too large for the MacBook to handle. It grinds to a halt and Excel often crashes. I realize now that using Excel for this task is not ideal, however spending some extra money on a computer that can handle it is a better option for me than redesigning the whole thing using a different system. I have enough money for a new computer, but not enough time in my schedule to redesign the analysis system. It's not too much of a problem if it still takes a while to finish, as I only do the analysis once every other week or so. I will not be doing any gaming, photo editing or video editing. Because of this I figure I can get away with using integrated graphics. I would however, like to have 3 monitors. I don't save lots of data either. I can fit everything I use in about 200 GB, so 512 GB should give me more than enough room for the foreseeable future. Budget: preferably around 1900 USD. The build I currently have in mind: Intel Core i5-7600K ASUS Prime Z270-A (3 video outputs) Intel TS15A CPU Air Cooler Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz 16GB Samsung 960 PRO 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD Cooler Master CM Force 500 Midi Tower EVGA BQ 600W Hybrid Modular 80+ PSU 3x Samsung 22" LED S22F350H HDMI cable (already have one) DisplayPort -> HDMI cable (already have one) DVI cable (already have one) Windows 10 I have a mouse and keyboard lying around somewhere. Build price from Norwegian retailer komplett.no, including shipping and VAT: 1850 USD. Does this seem like a reasonable build for my tasks? Would you suggest any changes? -
Hi, I am trying to do a project for school in which I create a graph for the views of youtube videos. The graph will consist of the date and the amount of view on that video. I am trying to find some raw data for the youtube videos but with no luck. I tried using socialblade, but they only have data on the subscriber count. They also do not allow you to downoad to data as a csv. I tried using google trends, but they do not have view data, but they do allow you to download as csv. Is there anybody who knows a website or way to collect this data as an excel doc. Thank You

Hello all. I'm having an MS Excel nightmare! I need to have a spreadsheet that allows me to have one sheet containing data in this case customer information which has a customer number assigned to each customer, that then on a new sheet will automatically fill in the details just from entering the customer number in the first column if this makes sense. Eg: Customer ID: 20 = Bob J. > 123456 > Address If anyone can shine some light on this for me I'd be truly in your debt! Thank you kind people of the LTT Forum.

Hello ! I run a shooting range and we do competitions. and we want a scoreboard to evaluate our shooters. I was thinking excel. but im not sure how to do it. we need : x-y axis circle to pinpoint the bullet on the target. (the target has 10 layers but id like to expand with an out of bound one too) our targets are in packs of 10. with a specific pattern. 1 bullet per target. I want to see scores over time, trends of how the shooter shoots (to the left, to the right up, down...) so I was thinking coordinates. but im not sure how to do it. perhaps a website/database ? thanks !

Hi Everyone New here but just wanted to get people opinions on a small business workstation build. If anyone has any alternatives or better ideas I would love to hear them! Not built something for this use before so if anyone has and has some insight that would help a lot! What will be the main use? Main use for this PC will be every day office tasks, a lot of spreadsheets and document writing, along with email and web browsing. It will also be used for CAD using autodesk inventor and content creation using Inkscape, gimp, photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and premiere pro. Basically it needs to do everything at a reasonable pace but will never be used for gaming. Budget: I would like to keep this sub £2500 (4220 CAD according to DDG) The Monitor: This is one thing I'm really not sure on, I have gone with 27" 1440 as I've heard that unless you go 40" with 4k then stuff like spreadsheets and document writing can become hard on the eyes. Also any video editing will be 1080 (along with 2k go pro and scaled down) for the foreseeable. 100%sRGB is good, don't really want to splash out for 100% Adobe RGB, unless you disagree with this and its more useful than I realise? MOBO: ASrock X370 TaiChi CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (Looking for a 3.8 - 3.9ghz overclock if stable) BOOT DRIVE: 250gb Samsung 960 EVO PCIe M.2 STORAGE: 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SATAIII GPU: Sapphire RX580 Pulse 8GB RAM: 32GB Corsair DDR4 Vengeance 3000mhz PSU: 650w EVGA G3 Modular CASE: BeQuiet! Pure Base 600 Mid COOLING: BeQuiet! 280mm silent AIO w/ Arctic MX-4 Thermal MONITOR: 27" Asus MX27AQ OS: Windows 10 Pro Thanks for any help!

Hello! So I got an excel spreadsheet at work that is starting to getting to large for it's own good. I was thinking about migrating it to some kind of database service, where you can view, enter and edit the data from some kind of application. My question then is, does anyone know of some pre-made applications that would fit this? Or would a DIY solution be better? Also like to mention that it need to be "offline" (AKA can't use the cloud) Thankful for any input on this :)

I can create a long string variable in VBA by repeatedly appending short string variables like this: sMyShortString = "a" For i = 1 to 100 sMyLongString = sMyLongString & sMyShortString Next i This works nice and quick, but a weird thing happens when you get to a string length of around 270,000 - the rate at which the code runs suddenly drops by a factor of 10. I have tested this on Excel 2010 and Excel 2016 on a variety of machines, and the performance hit always happens at the same string length. Does anyone know why this happens?

Hello those few of you who are excel gods i could use an idea about excel, when you open: format cells > number, and there is the checkbox for "use 1000 seperator" is there any way that i could make that to be checked by default, since by default it is unchecked and i am yet to find a way to make it checked by default, sinc customs are not favourited here and macros also not welcome for some reason, so i am kinda stumped.

Hi, I have a large google sheets file that I need to share with about 15 colleagues. My issue is that : I would like to set a rule that if my colleague is signed it to their google account they can edit. If they are not signed in, they may only view the file. Is this possible? I'm tired of arriving early in the morning and opening this up and seeing that "Anonymous Pelican" or "Anonymous Nyan Cat" has modified a line.. Any help / Input is well appreciated. Thanks, Adam

excel Excel Solver more variables than equations
Tobi_96 posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Hello, I have a simpel problem: I want to use excel solver for more variables than equations. I understand how the solver works. And also I have a quadratic equation in it. For my example i have 10 variables and 3 equations. So i set the solver to my data and let it run. NOPE!! Solver is dumb and can't create a solution. The solution it creates is bullshit and i checked it: It creates not the right solution i set as 'IS'. Is it me that i don't see my mistake or is it actually impossible to solve this huge amount of variables I know the t-solution-system in which you can manually (by hand) create solutions for more variables than equations. I tried also simple linear equations in excel: 2 equations with 3 variables - check 2 equations with 6 variables - OOPSIEE So my trial and error system doesn't works for my original problem: a quadratic equation system with 10 variables and 3 equations. So downloaded OpenSolver but this tool only supports linear and simple equations. The other models i can't download and install it in there (expect one of you guys can teach me). --> All in all excel failed hard and i don't trust excel anymore. So i tested R. The big statistic tool! You can do optimisation with the functions: optim() optimx() --> newer So i learned in many hours how this works BUT: No one ever has done my original example: A simple equation system with more variables than equations. I searched the entire WWW. Each forum, each help site, each university pdf, ALL!!!! Now... I'm frustrated as hell and i need external help! Please help me!! Thank you so much for answering!! And please DON'T tell me that it just works!! Ok?! I don't want this type of help! I also want as much easy programming language as possible. Im a newbie a lot... THANK YOU!!!?-

Hello dear forum, I'm a desk engineer and this is my first time I use the LTT forum because I cannot find an anwser to a problem that one of our clients is experiencing. The problem is in Excel 2016. The Client is a pretty big company with 2 dedicated printservers. One of the departments who all have the same default networkprinter selected have to wait several seconds before Excel selects the default printer to print a certain spreadsheet. It just says 'Looking for available printers'. After a few seconds it then automaticaly selects the defealt printer. I already reinstalled the printer and this does not solve the problem. This problem does not occur in Word, Outlook, Chrome, ... It is also present even if the Excel file is new and empty. I hope to find a possible solution through this way of communication :) Thanks in advance!

I searched in other forums (7 different forums) and websites (a lot of them, included office.com, etc) and a lot of other websites, BUT: I still have the problem with this funcion: =if(A1='D'; 3; 0) It shows me everytime a error: Excel says me to edit it to: '=if...' But this is dumb. My solutions, which i tried: ''D'' D (with space) ´D´ --> Not working, Excel still dumb. Help?!???
