so the dominator ram comes with white leds and an upgrade kit with a blue colored bar.... my whole build is green and black, well my roomates build. and i was wondering does any one know off hand what type of SMD leds the ram uses so i can replace them with green leds? OR OR OR has anyone tried dying the clear plastic light bar with RIT dye like people do to dye plastic rc car parts. cause then i can mix green and black more more of a dark green or just less bright green.

I'm finishing up my PC build and have ran into the problem of deciding how the fans should be placed. This is a close representation I found on google: http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/4820859.jpg 1) Should I have the two fans on the cooler face upwards and blow out or not? 2) The fan on the back is blowing out currently should I change that? 3) I still have the two fans included with the case which I was planning to use on the front, should that be blowing in (intake) or not. Thanks

I know how to backup the "normal" way, but I don't think that would work well for my uses. I am looking for a backup plan that will only update what already is backed up and not create an entire backup of everything each time. An example of what I want vs "normal", the 1-5 represents the backup number My plan 1. Backup C drive 2. backup new files that were created on C 3. backup new files that were created on C 4. backup new files that were created on C 5. backup new files that were created on C "Normal" backup 1. Backup C drive 2. Backup C drive 3. Backup C drive 4. Backup C drive 5. Backup C drive If anyone knows how I could do this, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

This is almost the same build as before but with a few changes and i was wondering if i did the right choice and i know i could do the all in one liquid CPU cooler but i went with this instead i don't plan to oc right away as i know my build can support games like Witcher 3 and gta 5 just fine with out it if i do OC i will invest in a new cooler. I also wanna say thanks to the others who helped with the last build my budget for this about 1500 i don't really wanna go over and ive already purchased some of the components as you will see on PC part picker so please take a look and tell me what u think. I also would like to stream with this PC to that's another reason i went kinda crazy with it. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GxTvQ7

Hey guys, i need a bit of your help! I want to make a custom pc build soon when i got the money and time for it but i don't know if the parts i have chosen are good enough or overkill for what i want to do. I mainly want to produce music in my home studio, video editing, gta 5/minecraft with shaders etc...games... & school work. This is the link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mML6gs Thanks in advance Matt By the way, can i maybe ship the products to someone of you guys who lives in the USA, since i live in the Netherlands and the prices for computer components are much higher here! Thanks

Hi there, I'm new to watercooling. I'd love to get my selected parts checked. Pump: Swiftech MCP655 w/ 3/8" Conversion Kit (317GPH) http://www.frozencpu.com/products/6190/ex-pmp-54/Swiftech_MCP655_12v_Water_Pump_w_Speed_Control_and_38_Conversion_Kit_317_GPH.html?tl=g30c107s1802 Res: XSPC 5.25" Bay Reservoir http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2184/ex-res-104/XSPC_525_Bay_Reservoir_-_Clear_Silver_Black.html?tl=g30c97s168 Rad: Alphacool NexXxos ST30 (Dual 140mm) http://www.frozencpu.com/products/22071/ex-rad-658/Alphacool_NexXxoS_ST30_Full_Copper_Slim_Profile_Dual_140mm_Radiator.html?tl=g30c95s930#blank Fans: Aerocool Shark 140x25 High Air Pressure (96.52 CMF | 1.069mm H2O) http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11639/fan-747/Aerocool_Shark_Black_Edition_140mm_x_25mm_High_Air_Pressure_Fan.html?tl=g36c15s775#blank Setup will have the Res mounted in a top bay. Pump preferably at the bottom (to create more head pressure before the pump). From pump to GPU, to CPU, to Rad in the top of the case (CM Storm Stryker) and back into reservoir. The Rad will be mounted slightly higher than the reservoir. Question: Is the Rad sufficient for the 2 cooled components? Are the fans powerfull enough? How does this pump 3/8" Conversion kit work? I know most Rads and Res are G1/4 threaded. Do I need some pump top for a proper mount? Additional Info: There will be room for 1x120mm (back) and 2x120mm (bottom) Rad. In foresight there will be a second GPU to be cooled. (A second Rad is propably preferable, but don't take this into consideration for the 1CPU, 1GPU loop please) CPU = i7 4790K GPU = GTX 980 The currect pricing for all components is €245,-. My budget isn't much above that since I have tubing etc. to buy too. (definitely keep these components under €300) Target: I'm looking for lower temperatures. The components will get OC with the watercooling system, but not crazy amounts (OC where air cooling could keep system under dangerous temps).

So its time for me to upgrade from my gaming laptop to a custom PC I wanna build my own custom PC for mid-high range gaming. I'm a kinda familiar on how the computer works in both hardware and software but need advice on building one. I want a 1080p with constant 60fps gaming experience on the latest games at medium to high settings. I'm using this rig mostly for gaming. I have a budget of $1500 and I came up with this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Burnlit/saved/#view=khqypg I plan to add another GTX 970 GPU for SLI much later on to boost the performance. I also want to learn and overclock my CPU and GPUs (if needed) while keeping the rig to be as cool and quiet as possible. Please review my build and tell me whether or not this build will work and what i need to change to make it work and to better optimize it. Thank you!

No Talk The Hotline Themed Gaming PC and Workstation Build Overview: Its been about two years now that I have been a game designer, and finally I am starting to hit major issues with hardware limitations with my current computer. I am just about fed up loosing hours of work because crashes, or having to stop in the middle of my "groove" because of my CPU clocking itself down to save its own life. So I figure its about time for a rather hefty upgrade. Now, I myself am not really experienced with many of the things that goes into computers, save a couple of weeks I spent watching Linus' and JaysTwoCents' reviews, and build logs, but I figure at least now I know enough to understand the proper make up of a computer. The theme I have in mind for this build is centered around Hotline Miami. Players of the game know it as a heart pounding adrenaline rush of "holy crap im not dead!" and thats the type of spirit I will be putting into my computer. Sadly I will be opting out of fancy custom water loops to save money and will be housing this tiger in a closed windowless case (maybe) so its beautiful insides will largely go unseen for the most part. I've set a fixed maximum budget of 4 grand in USD (Peripherals included) and I think i've got it pretty efficient at the moment but theres always room for improvements to make it more cost effective without loosing out on performance. My Current PC and Setup (prepare to giggle): To give a scope of how dramatic the upgrade will be think about this. I bought this premade "gaming" computer a few years back. While ignoring storage, its housed in a Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus case with simple cheap unnamed (x1)140mm and (x1)120mm blue LED fans. It has a AMD FX-4300 3.8Ghz CPU (stock cooler), seated in an MSI 760GM-P34FX motherboard, 8 Gigs of unnamed DDR3 CPU RAM with a Nvidia GTX 610 for graphics. Finally completing the computer an EVGA 80+ bronze 600w power supply. The power supply being the newest addition to my computer as one night the generic power supply that was included with the computer shorted out and took to setting itself on fire. But more on that later. The "No Talk" build parts so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FKDq23 The idea behind the build and to give its proper name "No Talk" justice. The current PC I have right now would probably alert everyone in the neighborhood with how loud it is (metaphorically ofc), the sound of two cheap fans whirring up to full blast plagues my sleep at night, so i figure its appropriate to move it on to the next level, and optimize it for silence. • Choice in CPU: My choice in CPU was rather impulse, at this time I still barely know much about CPUs and are just getting into learning what Overclocking is. My choice reflects that here with the Intel Core i7-5930K 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor. All I know is i wanted it to fit in an LGA 2011-3 socket, and that I wanted at least 6 cores. Nothing more to it really, will be very open to suggestions in other processors as your suggestion will probably be better than mine. • Choice in CPU Cooler: My choice in CPU Cooler kindof was due to aesthetic appeal, after watching some reviews about it and looking at charts on how it handles temperatures I figured to go with the Hydro Series™ H110i GT 280mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler from Corsair. I've never used a water cooling solution before so I wanted to stay relatively save when going with the choice, thinking Closed Loop Solutions to be relatively what I could use. Sadly this is about all I know In terms of water cooling of this type, having not explored other options out there just yet. And on top of that, I dont actually know if it will fit in the case I picked out. Eyeballin' it being a generous description on its selection process • Choice in Thermal Compound: Its probably incorrect, but I have it in my head that stock Thermal Compounds that are shipped with the cooling appliances generally are kindof bleh. But either way i will probably need it, if not for simple maintenance in the future, so my decision on a specific Thermal Paste was after one of Linus' favorites Innovation Cooling Diamond "7 Carat" 1.5g Thermal Paste. Hes a smart dude so i'll go with the safe bet that this will probably be good enough, though i don't know of any real impact that Thermal Compound actually has in the cooling process. • Choice in Mother Board My choice in motherboard came from JaysTwoCents' own SkunkWorks build, the EVGA Classified EATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard. Again, smart guy, probably knows what hes doing x20 of what im capable of doing, and gets positive reviews to boot. It houses a wide range of options to allow me to upgrade or add hardware in the future. But figuring i will only ever be running single cards or SLI in the future, the two PCI Express Ports are lost to me down at the bottom. It does have a contender though, the MSI X99S SLI Plus ATX LGA2011-3. I am rather biased towards MSI boards, having mine survive my power supply nightmare and was able to still run pretty well even after the fire. But as I do more and more research on it, I keep coming by reviews saying that a part died in a week or two, or they had some other issue with it. Maybe you guys would know more about it than I. • Choice in CPU RAM My choice in CPU ram was rather simple, the Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory sticks. I dont know what difference physically yet how much of a difference going from 8 Gigs of ram, to 32 Gigs of ram will be like, but I figure with the amount of rendering I do, more is better. In the end, i'll probably peel off the stickers plant them in, they're pretty fast and they're compatible with my motherboard so im pretty happy with my decision here. • Choice in Storage My choice in storage went to two Intel 730 Series SSDs and one Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Harddrive. I will be going from everything running on one genaric drive to these bad boy's using the 240G as a Boot/OS drive, the 480G as games storage and the Harddrive as a whatever else thing. I've never experienced life running on SSDs so im quite excited. In previous versions of my "No Talk" build, the SSDs were branded by Samsung, in the end I was discouraged about keeping them in my build because a couple of close friends said that they burned out rather quickly (a month of running with it). As far as I know it could have been an isolated incident, but again, you guys probably know a lot more about that than I do. • Choice in Video Card My choice in Video Card was quite easy, I've always wanted a watercooled one and luckily one came out on the market just as I was looking for one. I ended with a single EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti HYBRID. Pretty happy with my choice here, as it will not only be a HUGE improvement over my single GTX 610 card, it will quite happily run the monitors i have selected with no problem, making gaming at the monitor's specs quite easy, leaving lots of head room to crank up my graphics settings in games. Maybe now i'll be able to see what high or ultra looks like in person! • Choice in Case My choice in computer case is the Fractal Design Define XL R2 (Titanium Grey) ATX Full Tower Case. Its not a permanent choice as im often kind of torn on what to choose for my case, especially in terms of wanting to keep things quiet. I would opt for getting a super cool caselabs case, but I want to keep in budget, and if i can help it, stay under budget as far as I can. Other cases i've been looking into, like the NZXT, the newer Fractal Design Cases like the R4 and R5 (which would require me to change my motherboard size from EATX), and even one from Cooler Master all look pretty cool, only issue is that theres so many options out there and they are so shiny, but have no idea which ones would best fit my needs, wants, and still can look cool afterward. • Choice in Power Supply My choice in power supply was rather easy, the EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply. I quite like EVGA's ability to not set itself on fire, so it wins big points from me. Though at the moment I still don't know if its enough or too much power for my PC, especially since im getting more and more into the idea of Over clocking my components to increase performance, even if its marginally. • Choice in Operating System Personally I went with the Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit). I figured to go with 8.1 after watching TekSyndicate's videos concerning the two OS'. Keep in mind it may be negated depending on the success of windows 10 and if its any good for my needs. • Choice in Fans I still dont know what I want to do in terms of fans, at the moment I have Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fans and their SP 120mm fans. I would replace them in the build with Noctua fans, but i still have no idea what any of the Noctua fans names means and which are good for Air and Static Pressure. • Choice in Monitor(s) My choice in monitors were probably the most educated in my entire build list, I knew specifically I wanted to run at 1080p 60fps 5ms, one monitor for everything and the second for work related things and general extra space. The Asus VX279Q 60Hz 27.0" Monitor is an improvement over my current dieing 17" Compaq w17 LCD 1440x900 VGA 8ms monitor, and having that second monitor would be invaluable to my work. Pretty happy about this one! • Choice in Keyboard My choice in keyboard is kindof a given, I will be going from a old Azza membrane keyboard to a Corsair K70 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard. I think I will be getting its equivalent in Cherry MX Brown after visiting a friend who had a neat separate cube thing with all the different switches on them. I like the tactile feedback without the audible midway click. • Choice in mouse I have very little idea what I want to do with this. Pretty much anything would be better than my current mostly broken Azza lazer mouse, so I put the Razer DeathAdder Chroma Wired Optical Mouse after being referred to it by a friend. Might be getting its Corsair RGB equivalent just to go with the equivalent keyboard, just not quite sure yet. Summary: Excluding custom pearlescent paint to be done and its associated custom work which I will do by hand once the case is selected, This build runs at $3752.66 USD at the current time this was posted. I believe I will have a separate budget for the actual custom work on the case because it will be kind of a monster to do in on its own but well worth it in the end once it has its "jacket's piece"-esque feel from payday 2. Let me know what you guys think about my build so far, if there can be any improvements or anything that can be changed that can be made without sacrificing too too much in performance. I know in the very least I will definitely need someone to help decrypt what the Noctua fan names actually mean, what they do, and get the gist on the other fans out there, which would be good aswell and so on. I might need to think on another case too, not knowing if the cooling components I chose would actually fit in it, and which would look better modified as heavily as I want to do so in terms of painting. Finally I might need to look into my CPU options again, especially knowing I can match or better some of the expensive equivalents with slightly older hardware if I put my time in to properly overclock it.

So I built my first PC a year ago. I was new to the whole DIY PC thing, but I did a good job. It is a ~$750 USD AMD build. Using an 6300 vishera hexa core processor and a GTX 760, it was a good build for the money I had. Might I say, this was for my 12th birthday (yes I know, I am young). Now that it is my 13th birthday, I want to do another build with much more power. This planned build will have an i7-5820k, GTX 980 Ti, 32GB RAM. So basically, it will be a beast. You might be asking yourself, "Why would a 13 year old need such a high powered computer," the answer is simple, over the last year or so, I took many camps and courses learning Unreal Engine 4, and autodesk maya. I tried to use my first rig to power Unreal and Maya, and let's just say I almost fried my rig. It wouldn't turn on for days, but luckily I was able to reset the bios and everything was ok. Lesson learned: I am in need of a new rig. I have been saving up over the last year since I have a knack for saving all the money I can get. And with the help of an internship at Rooster Teeth (I live in Austin, Texas) and the amazing discounts from the Intel Edge program, I was able to get around $2000 already paid for. Since my rig is expensive, I need around 800 dollars in order to buy the rest of the parts. Most of my friends that have been building computers for a while tell me I should sell my computer on eBay or Craigslist. My question is simple; which should I choose? I don't want to go through the hassle of shipping, but if I get a buyer, I will do whatever it takes to get it to my customer. Any tips or suggestions when selling my rig? Thanks for reading my little post! Cheers

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FbfZbv This is the first build I've ever done. I'm looking for feedback and suggestions as to what I should change or add to make it better. I'm going to use it for gaming, and I'd like to keep it around the $1500 range but I can go a bit further if the upgrade or change is worth it. Thanks in advance!

I have a GTX 780 Lightning from MSI that I have tried overclocking, but can only squeeze another ~100MHz out of it. I installed the latest version of GPUz to check the ASIC quality, and it says 85%... doesn't this mean that I have quality silicone? I have always been weary to touh the voltage, so any tips on in depth overclocking is very much appreciated.

So i am working on a personal project to design the best possible m-atx case, and im looking for essential things that would make or break a case. And then things that would bring it to that next level, kinda of a best of everything, no comprimises. All criticism welcome. Just some notes: -I chose m-atx due to the best price to preformance and what you can fit in it. Anything more than dual gpu's has a high diminishing return, and you can still fit all the watercooling you need. -Looking for opinions on water cooling. Would a 240/280 in the front be good enough or should the design work for a 360? And ontop, the same deal -how many drives should there be? im looking at 2 ssd's and up to 4x3.5, or it could work around a 4 drive system with a 3.5/2.5in bracket -colors?

im building my first custom pc soon and found 2 options for my boot drive (for downloaded software too) which would you say is my best option between: Samsung 500GB 850 evo M.2 (which would connect directly to my mobo) ...or... Samsung 250GB 850 evo SSD 2.5" **if it helps i will be getting the MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboard which supports the M.2 (also cost isnt an issue as 2x ssd's would cost the same as the m.2) Thanks

What's up guys! Been messing around a little with GIMP lately and have gotten fairly good at it. Anybody have any ideas for things they want me to make? I will leave a sample. Feel free to suggest anything crazy lol.

Hi Guys! I'm new to LinusTechTips but I'm subscribed for a good while I'm here to get some assist to find a good solution on topic of GPU overheating and overall airflow with Cable Management with a SilverStone Raven RV01 case. So, let's start with a quick "What is my plan". I want a PC that gives me enough performance in games to play "maxed out" in 2K, later 4K & at least fix 30FPS, possibly 60 - so my gameplay is highly detailed in graphycs and runs smooth. I made a deal to re-make Paultan's "Reventón" PC with at least same quality but with a reasonably high-performance hardware that even looks good on pictures. For this, ~2 years before I set up a configuration and I'm upgrading it right now, but before buying a GeForce Titan X or AMD 290X, I want to solve some problems that I'm here for. This project is sponsored with hardwares, doing this for my own good & as a PR for a car-tuning company that wants to expand, but I'm still open to any offers in case you want your name being shown on webpages & EXPOs. So, let's get started with the current specs I have: SilverStone Raven RV01 case ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard i5 3570K CPU CoolerMaster i30 CPU heatsinks VTX3D HD7870 [Black Edition] Tahiti LE GPU XFX PRO 750W Semi-modular PSU (Upside down; blowing from back to buttom) Samsung 250 SSD and 3 HDD Samsung DVD-RW drive And things I'm going to install in the close future: A proper case cable management with sleeved cables - may include rotate 180° HDDs in the bays (not really supported ) No Watercooling if possible: Maybe for CPU, on GPU it's only acceptable its very, very compact but more effective than airflow. 1-2 GeForce Titan X or AMD 290X 1-2 more SSD More stylish CPU heatsinks replacing 2 smaller HDDs to a back-storage solution Fan-Control with LED display, 1-3x5.25" Bay SSD Hot-Swap 5.25" Bay Maybe an 1000-1200W Modular PSU Customizing the case in style of the "Brand" - Painting, Wrapping, Logos. What I need help with? The RV01 case's airflow, since my GPU seems to overheat with its side panels on (reaching 90C+ @ 50%-100% fan speed) and yet the cable management on this setup isn't fully solved. I fear that if I replace the GPU, it will still overheat, so I the very first thing is to perfect out the case in a performance meaning. I've attached a picture about how the current airflow supposed to work - but in reality, it isn't as effective as early previews and their own hype metioned. At least not at me. BIOS set these fans to maximum performance - I just can't find a solution what should be the true problem. In the other hand, there is absolutely no way (at least on this motherboard) to propely manage the 24 pin ATX and the 2x6-8pin PCE and ~6 SATA cables from the side - I may have to cut some new holes in this steel frame. I'm open to any constructive comment and I highly hope this community is able to help me out. Greetings from Hungary, - "Royal Predator"

Hey guys, today I sold my R9 295x2 in hopes of buying a Titan X Hybrid, of course just my luck they were all sold out. I cant wait so what I might do is just buy a superclocked Titan x and watercool it because I loved the appearance and functionality of a liquid cooled card, of course I would make a loop, if I knew how.. I have a Corsair 750D so space really isn't much of an issue and I really just need you guys to link me parts and a video of how to build a loop, and of course a few helpful tips from you sexy fuggers. I already have my CPU cooled by an NZXT Kraken x61 so 240mm of my top radiator mounting options is depleted, so all that's really left is the back of the cases rad mount 140mm/120mm or the 360mm radiator mounting options in the front. I also have a max budget for the cooling for around 200 dollars or less. It doesn't need to be crazy, just a simple loop that looks great and is small for my graphics card, thanks guys. heres a dank meme for your troubles.

Hi guys. First off, I'll get this out of the way. I know SkyLake just came out so don't suggest it (I'd prefer more core/threads because this is not a gaming computer). Here is my list at the moment. CPU: i7-5820K CPU Cooler: H100i Mobo: MSI x99S GAMING 7 Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4-2133 (I'll be getting more few weeks later.) SDD: TWO 850 Pro 128GB for RAID 0 GPU: R9 280X Vapor-X So as the title suggests, I'm building the computer inside the desk. (going for something like THIS with Black/Red as theme.) First question is how many fans I should use and whether I should count the cpu cooler's fan/radiator as pull. (thinking of using corsair SP140) Second question is how can I put power buttons and MAYBE hdd/power leds on the desk? And lastly, post any other recommendation for parts Thanks.

I am currently working on my first custom gaming build. I have been using a 'good enough' laptop for a while, but wanted to make a great system that will last me a while. Sadly, however, as my 1K (UK Pounds) budget got closer and closer to maxing out, someone informed me that my choice of PSU was shit. I decided to check out the Cooler Master Thunder 600w Supply, which is better for my use, but i wanted to know if it was trustworthy and of high standard. Please tell me if you have any positive or negative experiences with the CM Thunder series, and also please give me any tips about a new build, as well as whether or not you agree with my parts choice. Thanks, Chris Part List: http://tinyurl.com/CustomBuildPSUHel EDIT: I ended up deciding on going for a XFX ProSeries 450W supply, which is cheaper and has better reviews than the CM Thunder 600

I'm coming home from my naval training in May and I'll be building a custom PC instead of using my MSI GT70 all the time. I have my build put in a wish list on amazon. I know my way around the computer, just making sure I'm not skipping anything and am looking for any suggestions form any of you. I'm looking to stick to Intel/Nvidia loadout without overdoing a budget or adding things that I won't ever use (that's right, 64gb of ram). Thanks guys! This build is mainly for multitasking and gaming (nothing ultra). I'm also trying to keep a black, white, and blue theme with the colors. Here's the list of equipment: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3067YWPHY4Q8R/ref=cm_wl_list_o_1?

So I have a friend who said his computer broke. He told me that he wanted some input on parts for a new computer. I told me that he already has an SSD and I'm guessing that he doesn't need a hard drive. He already has a CPU and Motherboard in mind. He Has a Budget of about $500 and needs the following. Case Power Supply Video Card RAM or any thing else that he might need I have built my own computer before but I don't have the time to go looking around for good prices on parts with school starting. Hope you guys can help.
