Budget (including currency): $1000cad Country: canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming, video editing, business administration Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): i7-6700k, Asus z170-a, Corsair AIO, 32gb ram. so this is a 2016 build and my old gpu r9-390 died and now there’s a gpu sale cause of the crypto crash. canada computer has a ton of sales and I was wondering if I would buy a rtx 3080 https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_559&item_id=214130 would be okay? Would there be bottlenecks how would it fair! thanks guys

Budget (including currency): 2300-2900 $CAD / 12000-15000 CNY¥(better if less than this) Country: Canada and China Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Currently using an Alienware Area 51m with 9900k and 2080. Planning to buy a whole new set up when the 40 series release. I am expecting to play at 2k 144hz/240hz. I have to thank everyone who click in and read this, because my situation is very complicated which I am going to explain in the following. If anyone got any idea and reply here I will appreciate that a lot. First, I have to build in an itx case no more than 15 liter because I need to take it with me when I take flights between 2 countries (China and Canada). Currently, I am limiting my case option on only Dan A4 H-20. Second, I do have 2 monitors in both countries, so we are not including that in the budget. Third, I am a student studying in Canada currently so I have no flexibility on my schedule, I will leave China on August 31st. For the rest of the time I will be staying in Kelowna, which is a small town beside Vancouver for at least 8 months. And my expectation on my new set up is: CPU should be about 20-30% better than 9900k (probably a i5 12600k/i7 12700k/5600x/5800x), GPU should be at least 30% better than 2080 (probably a 4070/4080). I am NOT accepting any 30 series card cuz I am afraid they are used in mining. As the above condition is fixed, I am going to first point out my main concerns. First, base on my experience of living in Canada for 4 years, pc components are hard to find(I don't know why does it seem to be so ez for most of the tech channel I watch, they all live in Canada). And there are almost no offline shop that has sufficient amount of up to date components (like micro center in the US). Also, the price of pc components are generally higher compare to China and US. So, I am considering buying some of the parts that are possible to buy in China. However, it is hard to predict when 13th gen intel, 40 series gpu are not released yet. Like these components do influence my options on power supplies, memory clock speed, Cpu cooler(most likely an AIO). Also as I don't know how many slots or how big 40 series will be, case compatibility is also an issue. And all these components are cheaper to buy and easier to find in China. So, I either will need some advice on how to find components I need in Canada, US is not in consideration due expensive shipping fee and taxes (I have paid $400 CAD tax for my current computer shipped from US in 2019). Either I will need some advice on what I can buy first in China because I am not confident with the leak currently (like I am afraid that a 850w sfx power supply is not enough for 40 series and it doubles my cost if it doesn't fit). Here will be a list of my expectation of parts that I need: CPU: i5 12600k/i7 12700k/5600x/5800x/new cpu from intel or AMD GPU: 4070/4080 CPU cooler: Lian Li Galahad 240mm aio (or anything that has similar price($144 CAD included tax in China) and performance) Case: DAN A4 H-20(Lian Li) Motherboard: Anything that is an ITX board, but not low ends like ASUS TUF gaming (Expecting ASUS Strix level). Power Supply: Unknown sfx 850 w (probably need more) RAM: 2x16g 3600mhz Gskill trident z rgb/royal / corsair vengeance Memories: all from my past pc (western digital sn520 256g nvme for system, Crucial nvme ct1000p1 1t, Samsung 860evo sata 2t) Thanks for your time and help everyone.

Anyone else finding it REALLY hard to find some parts in Canada, especially Lian Li fans? Well, atleast anywhere other than Amazon which wants almost $60 CAD for a single AL 120

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/KPkQY9 Budget (including currency): Maximum 1850 cad Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video editing, gaming, multitasking (2 monitors) and for school. Games I will be playing include Ark: Survival Evolved, Hearts of Iron 4, Minecraft (rendering vids in high frame rates) and Cyberpunk. Rendering videos in NVENC using Vegas 18 Pro, learning Adobe Premiere. Other details I will look into buying a 1440p 144hz monitor as well. Currently running 1 60hz and 1 75hz 1080p monitor. Most PC parts I will be picking up Black Friday from CC. UPGRADING FROM: 2 Xeon x5670s, 48 gigs of ddr3-1333mz in triple channel, asus 1650 super (hp z800 workstation) NOTES: Storage I will be using from my old computer X570S Elite Aorus (non AX) was purchased from CC for 209.99 CAD as a black friday deal. (i have it right now) Bought the 4000x for 139.99 CAD from Best Buy, have it right now If something does come up, I can return both of these for a full refund. Also, there is a Zotac AMP Holo Extreme 3070 TI in Canada Computers for 829.00 Cad, is it worth buying? Is it a good deal? I cannot find any 3080s other than one available for 969~. Everything else is over a grand or out of stock. I would love a 3080 that isn't the gigabyte vison, since my build is black and I want lots of RGB. And, is the cooler fine? I'm looking to overclock the 5800x. Lots of Feedback is appreciated, this is one of my biggest purchases yet.

Hi. I might buy pc parts during Black Friday (or Boxing day). Nothing expensive. Sites like newegg.ca, ca.pcpartpicker.com/, bestbuy.ca, ebay.ca. Are they good? Which sites or brands are recommended? Edit: Same question, but for used parts? (i'll probably watch a video on buying used parts) Do's and Don'ts for building a pc in Canada? (Ps i'll use Linux: Zorin OS 16.2 Lite Xfce) General Build Idea: - Cpu (and sometimes ram) is my bottleneck for: 3d animation made to look like cartoons, simple video editing, recording screen. - Gpu isn't really a bottleneck right now, so that's why I'll just use my old one for now. - Intel i3-10100 (or something with a few more cores) - Small motherboard and case - Either 1x16GB or 2x16GB with option to get up to 4x16GB's, maybe more if needed. - I'll use old parts for the rest. Questions: - Is it safe to use an old psu? - I have a Thermaltake TR2-500W psu from a used pc lying around. I got the dust out. It still works afaik. - And I also have whatever psu my Dell xps 8500 pc has, but I'll probably use this pc to slowly render stuff while doing other stuff on the main pc. - Is using 2 pcs like this doable? My dad told me if too much is plugged in one socket, the breaker thingy downstairs will shut it if, so there's no safety concern. But just curious about what I can expect. - If I need a new gpu later, and it won't fit, can I simply replace the small case with a big one and transfer all the parts? - If I need to, I can just swap the 10100 out for an 11900 cpu since it's the same socket, right? Or would there be some complicated bios thingy I have to do? Let me know. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I have decided to get a home ai for my parents (definitely not techy). I looked and seemed it's gonna be between Amazon's Alexa systems or Google's Home Assistant. We do have a Samsung smart TV, so I would want the Ai to be able to control the TV without needing extra devices to allow that. I am unsure if this is correct area to post, so mods feel free to move my post to the right area. Which eco system, or speaker would you guys recommend as an entry device into the Home Ai? (Google or Alexa). I know about the Apple Home, but it's out of my christmas budget range and appears to be harder to obtain

I'm planning to wait for black friday or cyber monday. However, I'm heavily split on what to get since I'm almost clueless. I do not want to even think of anything apple. And I'm willing to try out weird stuff like a surface book.. . I am not a gamer, so at best any games I play would always be on lowest quality or indie. At most though i'd be using it for basic dev ops, or at worst, running it remote to a desktop running unity. I plan to take it with me on travels as well. With all that, my focus would be on portability, weight, battery, build quality, and a good CPU. I'm ok with big sizes as long as they don't weigh too much or are too bulky. But I also don't want something where the screen is too small. Also, would be nice if there were any good resources to help figuring out what to best look for in laptops, or how to know whether i'd be expecting a good build quality or not.

Hi! I'm currently set up with some ancient, oddly sturdy desk, that's just a simple rectangle. I have 5 screens hooked to mounts in the center, and a heavy swinging monitor stand on the side for my tablet. It's pretty heavy by my guess. Reassembling the desk after my move to Quebec was a hassle. Since I have more room, I've been wanting to set up a large L-shaped desk in a corner for my current build, but I can't find anything online that seems reassuring enough for the weight. Any suggestions? Anyone with similar experiences?

For starters I'm in Canada and my Dad is paying BELL a bunch of money for fast "Fibe Internet", although we are not getting even close to the speed that we should be getting. Our wifi should be more than capable of reaching 50-70Mbps yet we are barely hitting 10Mbps. In my room which is located directly above the router I'm getting 1-8Mbps. We also have weird dead spots for example, the room over from where the router is located if you sit on the couch you completely lose WiFi connection. A couple of workers from Bell have visited but they didn't do anything. The WiFi was great for about one day after a worker came to fix the WiFi only the day after he installed it. Frankly it's pathetic. I'm just trying to play apex and warzone yet it is basically impossible. I could really use some help or advice if you have any! Thank you!

Hi everyone. I am currently planning to upgrade my computer from a laptop (Lenovo Y500, i7-3630QM, GF 750M) to a desktop and I'd like your input on a part list I'm in the process of putting together. I'd like the system to be able to handle games like Witcher 3 and Watch_Dogs 2 at high setting, with ideally a 21:9 100Hz 1440p screen. I also do a bit of CPU and memory intensive work, so it would be nice to not skim too much on theses. I currently have 8GB of RAM and it's already not enough. I am in Canada with a budget of around 2.5 k$ for everything including new peripherals. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the looks, as you might tell from the part list. Here's the part list : https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/alsimoneau/saved/Mq7sYJ I might like to change some of the case fans. Thank you so much !

Hello, I'm semi-curious if anyone has found the Cryorig H7 cooler for sale in Canada. I've looked into it, but I'll I've found is people saying that you can get it shipped here, either by a online retailer or through Cryorig. Problem is... w/ shipping, the cooler is approaching $100 CAD... Currently in my build is a Hyper 212X, which might be fine, but some people have been saying to look into the Cryorig H7, due to it being a better cooler than the Hyper212X. More wondering if it's worthwhile to look into it, if I can't get it for a reasonable price in Canada. I am ordering in May, so this post could be for not, if the H7 becomes available between now and then.

Since i have setup my gaming PC, i bought a smaller ultrabook for my daily use in university. My friend in Canada want something more powerful to replace his old weak Thinkpad, so Im considering to sell him my used gaming laptop for a lower price. So anyone have any experience to ship a 15.6 inch laptop from US to Canada? What is the safe and cheap way to do this shipping?

Weird question. Ive been looking to buy the razerblade stealth (base model kabylake) from Razer's own website. Im a Canadian and a student Im wondering is there any way for me to pay around the same price (for the CAD price listed on Razer's site) IN Canada or do I have to go through the border and pay tons of money for tariffs and whatever?

Hello everyone, I have a rather strange request of you in this post. In a few days, I'm going on a trip to Canada, Toronto (I live in Argentina). I was wondering if anyone around the area could help me with recommendations of where to buy the AMD Ryzen. Im traveling for the whole month so Im waiting for the reviews and everything, but Im not here for that. I just want recommendations of popular places in Toronto for me to purchase the cpu. If you need exact coordinates I'll add them Thanks everyone
-
Hey guys, Unfortunately I was unable to get a switch before they sold out in minutes on every website. What would you recommend I do? Buying a scalped pre-order on ebay seems fishy and ridiculously priced, and all stores near me are sold out on pre-orders. I am just curious of what to do in this situation. Thanks.

So, I asked a few months ago, some information about Canada because I was thinking moving there from Greece: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/659619-moving-to-canada/ Now, I am almost ready and prepared to do the big move! The place I chose is Toronto, and I will move in a few months. I need some information about Toronto though, and because I am tech geek, I need to know Internet Speeds there, as well if there is a PC Hardware Search Engine, so I can find the cheapest new hardware I want. We have one here at Greece which we call Skroutz, and it's API connected to many online stores. That's what I need. I know about PC Part Picker, but I am interested more in this search engine so I can find smartphones/laptops/gadgets etc. I also want you to tell me about ISPs in Canada, I found one called "Beanfield" which gives Fiber Optic up to 500Mbps, unlimited data in Ohio for 75$ US (~100 CAD). Is it a good ISP? I will surely need unlimited data, especially since I leave my family/girlfriend back here, to Skype with them. Also, high-speeds will be a dream for me. Average speed in Greece is 8Mbps, but I have 12Mbps. Lastly, can you confirm me that IT Technicians start salary is about 2500 CAD, rents are at 500-1000 CAD including utility, and life cost for 1 person is less than 2000 CAD? I don't care about going out or vacations, since I will be alone there, I will just be spending huge about of times on my PC. I know I ask much about tech, and I should ask more about life, but already know about that. And also, because at Greece I am creator of a community with 30k people only about tech, with Site/YT Channel, I will need to continue doing my hobby too (in Greece, finding sponsors is very hard). Thank you all in advance. Please no huge answers.

Hi everyone. I am new in Toronto, Ontario. I am not sure where to buy computer parts. Should I buy from newegg.ca or amazon.ca or Canadacomputers or any other stores? Which one will give me best value including shipping(I can bring the staffs if I buy from a local store). I am not sure if this forum is the right place to ask this question but I had no other way.

As a 47-year old dude, I'm enjoying this entire forum and its content. In particular, the Canadian content. As I make my way through Scrapyard Wars, I smile at all the landmarks (that I recognize growing up in Langley, Richmond, BCIT, SkyTrain towers, Surrey, Willowbrook Mall, and East Van.). Hell, some of the characters in the episodes look like my students (uh huh, I'm a high school science teacher). Keep it coming, eh?
