Literally, this problem is driving me crazy and I am desperate. It’s a complicated long story, so… I apologise, but please… help me. I have bought a whole new gaming rig: GPU, CPU, MOBO, Monitor, keyboard, mouse and so on. After some days of using I immediately noticed a strange behaviour: my monitor went into sleep mode a couple of times while gaming. However I have no longer seen this happen for a few months. Then, suddenly, it happened again… and again and again… the problem became worse. Ok, let’s investigate. I tried another monitor with a different screen resolution and a different refresh rate using the same DisplayPort cable. Everything worked fine for a couple of months even if I experienced some small brightness flickering with FreeSync on. Ok, maybe the problem was the original monitor. I asked for a warranty replacement and got a new one. Once received, I opened the box, put the brand new monitor in place, changed the old DisplayPort cable with the new one and… panic. No signal at all. Ok, that’s becoming strange. Then I tried the old cable-new monitor combo and i got signal. Ok, maybe they sent me a defective cable with the new monitor. After some days… you know, it happened: no signal while gaming. Let’s investigate further. I tried different combos of ports, cables, settings, monitors and this is a list of results. FreeSync on, DisplayPort version set to 1.2 on monitor’s OSD and DP cable inserted into the port 1 of my GPU. Cable 1: it works, but the screen goes to sleep. Cable 2: black screen. Cable 3: black screen. Cable 4: black screen. FreeSync on, DisplayPort version set to 1.2 on monitor’s OSD and DP cable inserted into the port 2 of my GPU. Cable 1: black screen. Cable 2: black screen. Cable 3: black screen. Cable 4: black screen. FreeSync on, DisplayPort version set to 1.1 on monitor’s OSD and DP cable inserted into the port 1 or 2 of my GPU. Cable 1: it works, but the screen goes to sleep. Cable 2: it works, but the screen goes to sleep. Cable 3: it works, but the screen goes to sleep. Cable 4: it works, but the screen goes to sleep. With FreeSync off: I always have signal, but the screen goes to sleep. Cable 1: the one from the original monitor. Cable 2: the one from the warranty replaced monitor. Cable 3: is a DisplayPort 1.2 VESA certified (DISPLPORT10L from StarTech) Cable 4: just found at home, I have no informations about it. Notice that cable 1 and cable 2 should be identical, but they have different behaviours. PSU: 700W CPU: i7-7700K GPU: Asus DUAL-RX580-O8G MOBO: Asus Prime Z270-A Original monitor: Samsung C27FG73 (144 Hz, 1080p, FreeSync 1) Temporary monitor: LG 34UC99 (75 Hz, 3440x1440, FreeSync 1) SUMMARY: I want to play with the Samsung monitor with DisplayPort 1.2 at 1080p @ 144 Hz, FreeSync on. The only way I have to achieve this result is: Cable 1 + GPU’s port no. 1. With this combo the monitor goes to sleep. If I change one of this two things, I have a black screen. LG Monitor: everything works fine with cable 1. No signal at all with cables 2, 3, 4. One thing I noticed is that the monitor goes to sleep very often when i switch from desktop mode to fullscreen and vice versa. Or even when I change the resolution/refresh rate in-game. What I tried: Reinstall everything Updating drivers Updating motherboard bios Trying older GPU drivers Changing input detection from auto to DP only And many other basic things. What I didn’t try: Change GPU Change PSU Use an HDMI cable because I am to lazy + I don’t want to lose FreeSync. Things you shouldn’t do: Don’t tell me I have 3 faulty cables and 1 not-so-good cable because is basically impossible.

Just installed unreal engine 4 and it's lagging everytime, i shouldn't call this lag, its like if i click on something it respond after 4/5sec. That's not all of it. Even at first, if i click somewhere it works after 4/5sec later and on the option key, it doesn't work, just a small black screen appears, What is causing this problem? My spec I5 6400 16gb of ram Rx 590 8gb I'm using the latest versions of amd driver (optional one) And windows 10 the oldest version Something from 2015/2016 maybe. Can windows cause this problem? Or my gpu driver? At first i though i cpu cant handle UE4 But one of my friend using smoothly with the same cpu and gtx 1060 3gb 8gb of ram. I uploaded 2 photos so you guys can understand what kind of black bar im talking about, it happens when i click on something which contain some options, like file, edit etc. And if i click on something that doesn't contain any options then It'll work after 4/5/6 sec later,

Hi guys new here but hoping some vet can come help me out. I cant think if I have changed anything specific that would cause this but while gaming, so far in Rimworld, Black Mesa and the witcher 3, the game runs for an indefinite period of time, anywhere from 5 seconds to a minute and my screen will go black for a few seconds then come back for maybe another few seconds and repeat meaning I cant play anything. Some screen tearing in between on the witcher 3 as well. I can still hear full audio while black screen on the witcher but on black mesa it sort of glitchy loops for a second before coming back to normal. This also just repeats itself constantly. However when I was playing a small indie game "an old mans journey" I played for 35 mins no bother which led me to believe it was a temp problem but GPU-Z and core temp arent showing anything crazy, I saw the GPU spiked to about 75 as I was exiting the witcher but im at a loss for ideas just now. Any help is much appreciated Gigabyte 970a-DS3 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz AMD FX 6300@3.5 Stock Cooler AMD RX 480 8GB Corsair RM550

I recently gave a friend my old PC and we've been working on it the past few days trying to fix this problem. 2 days ago the screen froze when I was using it and when it was responsive again a notification popped up saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered." After that I turned the PC off and the next day when my friend was using it the screen randomly went black with no cursor. We restarted the system and the screen just turned black when it booted up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Graphics card: gtx 1070

So I have a 1060 and I've used it since 2017 without any problem. But today when i was playing cod, my screen suddenly went black and my card ramped up the fan speed to 100%. I have to restart my computer everytime it happens. I've tried many ways to fix it but it's still not working( re-plug the pci-e, reinstall GPU driver, overvolted GPU, etc). And now I can't play any games without having that problem. I really need some help ?

Hi, I was able to put my system together the other day and all was going well. I was using the system for a couple of hours, updating windows and downloading the programs I wanted, but then it suddenly switched off. When turning it back on the pc looks like it's on, all the fans spinning and aio pump going, but all I get on the screen is a white line in the top left corner of a black screen. It's an Asus z370e motherboard and the post LEDs stop on the BOOT_LED, which is green. I have unplugged everything and reseated it all. I have removed all unnecessary components. I have tried to reset the bios by shorting CLRTC pins and removing the battery for a while. None of this has done anything. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, so my friend and I decided to overclock his CPU (I have OC'd multiple times before), in a standard B350 Gaming From MSI. here are the specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 1500 MOBO: MSI B350M Gaming Pro RAM: Viper 2*4gb DDR4 2400 PSU: 500W (not my pc, Im not sure which it is) GPU: 1060 6gb from Gigabyte (single fan) OS: Windows 10 (latest) Bios: not exactly sure... sorry So, the system was fully functional before, but we shut it down, went into the bios, opened up advanced, and turned auto multiplier to 37. I explained to him that he also had to change the voltage, to prevent anything from going wrong, but he said no and just saved the settings and restarted it. The system turned off, and on again, but it no longer posted, just a black screen. Fans were on, the debug lights on the motherboard were off, and everything lit up. We assumed that the overclock must have been horrible, which seemed strange to me since, i was almost sure 3.7ghz wasn't too insane, so we removed the cmos battery, and put it back in 5 minutes later. Still no display. we then tried it again, with a different monitor, plus cmos clear, and still nothing. we unplugged my keyboard (it was no longer lit, so we assumed the usb ports werent sending any power), and plugged in a cheap one, and it displayed for a bit. we set BIOS to default, and saved it. restarting the pc, and we lost post again. black screen. we slowly removed pieces from the board, and each corresponding light turned on, detecting no ram, detecting no gpu, detecting even when the cpu wasn't getting powered. he then went home, and started subbing parts into a different ryzen build (ryzen 7 1700). His gpu detected and displayed fine. the PSU functioned properly. The ram was working. but when he switched in his cpu, it stopped posting, with the now familiar black screen. he decided to switch back in the ryzen 7, only for the pc to still display nothing. for some reason now the second pc also wont display anything I am lost, to how this could be, why this is... is the cpu dead? are both motherboards now dead?? is there something else that could be the issue? all help would be great, thank you

Since I didn't find a fitting thread anywhere on the web I decided to make my own one. Current Rig: -mainboard: Asus Tuf 450+ Gaming -CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X -GPU: Powercolor RX480 red Devil -SSD: Samsung 840Pro -HDD: Western Digital 2TB -RAM: 2×8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz -PSU: bequiet! System Power 9 600W I changed the out the CPU, Mainboard, PSU and RAM since my previous Rig stopped working and was beyond repair, the Harddrives and GPU have been checked and are all fully functional. I tried starting it the PC up but the screens stayed black while the whole hardware seemed to function, every RGB, Fan and component seems to work except for the video output. I removed the GPU to check if it works then but nothing happens either. I tried using just one RAM stick but that didn't do anything either and did some other stuff to try and find the problem. So if anyone may have a solution and could help me I'd be very grateful.

My pc is: A10 7700k Motherboard MSI A68HM-E33 V2(With te latest bios update 2018-11-02) 8gb Ram ddr3 1Tb hdd "800w" Generic Power Supply(But this is not the problem) XFX HD 7870 (With the latest vBios update) Windows 7 64 bit The graphics card works perfect with the Microsoft drivers. But when i try to install the AMD drivers the screen turns black. And i have to enter safe mode to uninstall them. I have been trying a lot of diferents drivers but no one works. What can i do? I think the GPU isn`t the problem because this problem is really common. Im desesperate, i have been trying for three days straight. I tried using Windows 10 and Windows 7, installing the drivers by the device manager but nothing works. I tried with another motherboard too and it`s the same.

Around Thanksgiving I built a new rig. Bought new: MB, RAM, CPU, Cooler, and then used some parts from my previous build. Since building the system I have been having random black screen lockup and reboots. The lockups are so strange....the system locks (black screen), but hitting the power button on the case does nothing. I have to kill power to the machine either by killing the surge protector it is plugged into or unplugging the power cord from the PSU. The machine will run fine for hours (usually 8 or more) before another lockup. So, because of the complete lockups I am thinking hardware so I started swapping parts out to figure out what is the issue (below is a list of the parts swapped). What I have tried: Verified temps are hitting around 100 degrees F at max normally around 90F I have ran memory tests overnight with no problem. Swapped out memory. Bought a new power supply (listed below). Swapped out the MB with another of the same model (swapped last week). Still the machine randomly locks. I have reloaded the OS from ground zero, twice. Has anyone seen this before? I am a Network Engineer and I have built systems in the past. I would say I am not a complete idiot, but after this not even sure I can attest to that statement. What am I missing? Greetings. (This is an extension to a previous topic I opened roughly a month ago. If you're interested, here is what I've tried so far. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1002734-just-bought-gtx-1060-not-working-help/?tab=comments#comment-12132397) Long story short: I bought my GPU on Black Friday which has been nothing but issues. Attempting to get it functional, I ran out of ideas, so I sent back to the company for a replacement assuming the card was DOA. I got the new card to find I have the same issues as before. RIP. Now I know the GPU isn't the source of my problems. This is what going on: - I can only get a high of 23fps with average of 14fps on basic settings. (valley benchmark. Dying Light and PUBG are unplayable) - GPU in task manager under load runs at 99% for 14fps of performance. - At some point, it did manage to reach around 95fps but would stutter extremely hard. Dropping to 12FPS than shooting to 90fps dropping again. Most of the time it's a steady 14-22fps. - At some point the GPU would disable itself if it pulled over 40 watts of power. Disabled meaning black screened on me. Sadly I can't replicate this result again as it never pulls over 23 watts anymore so I can't say for certain it's related. - Temps are extremely good. Neato. What I know: -Drivers are not the problem. I've wiped my C drive and installed the proper drives numerous times. -GPU is not the problem. Unless I'm extremely unlucky to have the company send me another broken card. -CPU is fine. Good clocks, temps, stays at like 35% under load while GPU is maxed. What could it be? PSU? or MOBO? I'd rather not buy a new PSU to have the same problems again.. How could I test it? I'm feeling quite frustrated by this. The less troubleshooting I have to do on my own the better. Let me know what you think. Specs are in Screenshot below.

I just got a new 1070 ti strix to replace my msi 970. When i installed it everything went to plan but when i turned it on everything lit up but nothing came on the screen (the fans span for 1-2 sec on the gpu but stopped, every other fan keeps going, maybe because it dont need to keep spinning). I tried putting my 970 back and without a gpu in but keeps not showing anything. (my computer worked fine before, i only upgraded because i wanted more performance not because anything was broken) Anyone with the same problem? And suggestions?

A few weeks ago I was having problems with my GPU that lead me to RMA it. I sent it away and turned off the power on my PSU since I was going to be away for a couple of weeks. When I came back I installed the new GPU but my screen was black, it was on and I can sometimes use the menu to choose inputs or settings etc. But other times it puts itself in sleep and I cant wake it, the power light blinks with or without the GPU installed. I have tried with a DP cable, 2 separate HDMI cables each with a DVI adapter on one end. From the GPU to the monitor, from the MOBO to the monitor, DP and HDMI simultaneously and switching inputs and nothing. When the monitor powers on I get the company logo and a no signal, then either a black screen that I can use to change settings on the monitor OR a black screen as if the power is off.My computer starts and runs fine otherwise, the capslock light responds when pressed. I have removed and reinstalled the RAM one at a time, the coin battery on the MOBO. Removed all power connections and held down the power button and currently have all non essential components unplugged. Right now it's just the MOBO, RAM, CPU, CPU cooler, SSD, HDD, and an HDMI to the monitor. ANY help is welcome and I'll respond asap. I wasn't sure if this was the correct place to ask so redirect if needed and thanks in advance. Hi, Recently, I have replaced my 4G RAM memory card by a 8G one. When I boot with the new card, I get a black screen and Windows cannot start. If I check in the BIOS, I can see that my 8G memory is seen with the same speed as the 4G card. I attempted to run a diagnostic test on the memory but I get the same black screen and nothing happens. I attached a picture showing the 2 memory cards side by side. Can anyone see something that could cause an incompatibility? For information, my computer is a Dell Inspiron 3472. I know that the new memory card works fine because I have tested it in another computer and this time, Windows runs normally with the additional memory. Thanks!

I wanna revive my 10-year old pc running on AMD Sempron with integrated nvidia graphics (I dont remember the model numbers btw), an MSI motherboard, and 1 gb DIMM RAM. I know its ancient. But before I move to the Ryzen series by switching out everything, I wanna know why my old pc doesnt boot up anymore. Here are the things happen when I boot it up: 1. CD-ROM starts up but it keeps repeating the sound it makes as if its stuck in a replay. 2. Fans are running 3. No display on the monitor (VGA) 4. No beeps 5. Doesnt go to the screen where you press del to enter bios settings Solutions taken: 1. Unplug everything and replug after a few minutes 2. Switching to a new VGA cable I wanna know how to fix this since I might encounter this in the future when I build my ryzen rig.

Hi, I recently bought an ASUS RX580 ROG STRIX 8GB and i keep getting a black screen while booting windows, changing resolutions, launching or exiting a game, updating radeon display drivers. I've tried literally every troubleshooting method on all forums, youtube, and on AMDs website with no success. I can still hear audio when the screen is black so it hasn't crashed. The GPU nor any other components are faulty as they have been tested by technicians multiple times. Does anyone have a fix? any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers. Hey there So earlier on I was gaming on Overwatch. I finished playing, closed the game down and went on Chrome. As I went on Chrome, my PC Blue screened with "System Service Exception." It got to 100% yet never rebooted. I shut the PC down and then it rebooted. I logged back in (I have Windows 10), and after a few seconds when it was loading my programs, my desktop went black, all icons bar Recycle Bin and one other disappeared and then my screen went black. I got several hexidecimal errors before eventually it all was black. I rebooted, this time in safe made. Not having a clue what I'm doing, I went into eventvwr to see if there was any issues. There were several errors, including EAPHost failures, WinCache Logs being corrupt and WMI files being created. When I tried to use Avast! It said the UI was broken. I did a system restore back to two days ago, after my last Windows Update and the error still persisted. I left it a while and booted again. This time chkdsk wanted a word. I tried cancel it and I got a Bad System Config Info BSOD I let it restart and do the ckdsk and as I am writing it is trying to do an automatic repair. Any idea of what the issue can be and how I can fix it? (Image of one of the errors below)

Hey! I was playing around with my monitor resolution so I can get better fps. I decided to put my screen Resolution to 1152x648 which made my monitor go black screen. I'm using an old monitor from couple of years ago. I don't know how to fix this since I can't see anything on the screen to change back the resolution to a compatible resolution. I used the Intel Graphics Tools to change the settings before. How can I fix this? I read that I need to go to safe mode? How to do that with a black screen? Thank you in advance! P.S I FIXED IT BY CONNECTING MY PC TO MY TV AND IT WORKS... I managed change the resolution back to normal.

PC randomly black screen crashes and cpu debug light turns on.
M0_ posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hey guys, I built my first pc last year and ever since then my pc has been crashing randomly. The screen freezes and then 2 seconds later the monitor stops receiving an hdmi signal and motherboard cpu debug light turn on (The fans are still running). The pc might crash when I boot into windows (Sometimes crashes immediately on boot up or 10 - 15 seconds later). Other times I might be browsing the web or playing a game (usually I don't play too graphical demanding games but I can play games like witcher 3 or outer worlds without a problem on mid-high graphics). Days the pc has crashed: (To show it crashes randomly) 08/19/2020 08/25/2020 08/27/2020 08/29/2020 09/02/2020 09/07/2020 09/10/2020 PC specs: Cpu: Ryzen 5 2600 Mobo: MSI b450 tomahawk Ram: Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 3000 SSD: Crucial MX500 500GB Harddrive: Some HGST harddrive I got from my dead laptop GPU: MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 8G PSU: Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze The cpu temps never reach above 85C during benchmark and never above 75C when gaming. The gpu temps never reach above 70C. I am on the lastest BIOS, I have the lastest drivers installed. I have made sure all wires are properly connected. I ran memtest86 and ram is fine. I have also ran benchmarks and everything is fine. Also after the crash event viewer gives an error message: "Windows unexpectedly shutdown". Is there anything I can do to solve the issue? Thank you.- 14 replies
