Ok So my friend needs help, he posted this on teksyndicate just then, he hasn't gotten any replies yet which to me seems odd (seeing im on here most of the time) Here is the thread post contents Criteria/aim/want Has to run planetside 2 on max (includes GPU PhysX I have a knack for this game and my laptop barely runs it) Runs most new games at a minimum of 30FPS at high to max (by max I mean Ultra) Must be flexible ( By flexible I mean able to be easily upgraded in the future with no conflicts) Budget 500 but it can go slightly over All money goes to the rig not the mouse monitor etc Able to take to lan partys might add more criterias' later but this is a basic layout Random side notes that might make me slightly more happier (Not too important) I don't know why but I have a knack for Intel Asus and Nvidia stuff. Doesn't really need a DVD drive I can get it from an old rig Hardware able to last Might add more side notes TekSyndicate thread link https://teksyndicate.com/forum/build-pc/500-gaming-computer-near-next-gen-strength/163575#comment-1544717 Thanks.

Sources: http://promobay.org/ http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-backs-disruptive-activists-startups-charity-and-more-131106/ News: If you have been to the torrent sharing website ThePirateBay to get the newest version of Ubuntu or perhaps discover a new indie artist; and in the process discovered a new artist on their frontpage; well this may be a thing of the past. TPB has stopped displaying artists on their front page since quite a while now since shifting that to a new platform, the PromoBay, which will now support artists as well as activists, charities and startups. My take: This is awesome! TPB has a wide reach and this is a great way to get people to know about news which will impact them in a big way.

So many people can't run many of the current gen or next gen games on their PC, so i wanted to make a interesting topic including settings for all games that are same as ultra or even better or maybe a little worse than ultra but run at higher fps than on ultra preset itself... Here is an example: Battlefield 3: Texture quality: High (preferable, on ultra everything looks much darker) Shadow quality: Medium (they isn't really a difference between medium, high and ultra) Effects quality: Medium (On medium effects are more transparent and enemies are easier to spot than on ultra and high, and it looks fantastic) Mesh quality: Ultra (Just keep it on ultra, this is needed believe me) Terrain quality: High (when on lower than high you get the pop up effect) Terrain Decoration: Low (no difference really) AA DEFERRED: NONE (you will see why) AA POST: Medium (this type of AA is fxaa actually, on medium it doesn't blur the image and everything looks like on msaa x4 just without the lag) Motion blur (doesn't do anything, just blurs things when in motion, i like the effect) Anistropic filter: x4 (anything higher doesn't do a difference) Ambient occlusion: OFF (ambient occlusion can improve the looks of a object by darkening some areas on objects, but in bf3 it just doesn't work) Resolution is about your monitor and set it to whatever you like, i personally like 1366x768 resolution, it looks very sharp and crisp to me and it is most popular resolution (just ignore this, i have a laptop, my eyes are getting fked hard, btw 768p is most popular res ) So, this is an example i made for you, you can get lots of extra fps ingame without reducing that much graphics, you minimize the vram usage and it will still look awesome. If you personally don't agree with what ive got here for this example then leave a suggestion EDIT: Crysis 3: Game effects: low (this doesn't change anything) Object: Very high (please do this) Particles: High-Very high Post processing: Low (this just blurs the image and does nothing) Shading: High (You wouldn't know how much fps will this setting save for you) Shadows: High (No difference from ultra but saves a lot of FPS) Water: Medium atleast (there isn't much scenes with water so nope ) AF: X4 (for any game this is good) Texture resolution: Medium (pc version comes with HD textures so anything more than medium isn't needed but saves FPS) AA: SMAA 2TX (this setting is fcking awesome, it doesn't do any performance hit at all and it sharpens the scene so much your eyes will bleed!) EDIT 2: Battlefield 4: Texture quality: high Texture filtering: medium lighting quality: medium effects quality: low post process quality:low mesh quality: Ultra Terrain quality: high Terrain decoration: anything, makes no difference, maybe pop up effect on low setting for grass, medium should be fine Antialiasing deferred: none or 2x antialiasing post: medium ambient occlusion: none or SSAO

What the title says. I got an email about this and signed up immediately. Pretty cool. A reward program for PSN. PS+ was already a good deal ($50 for a year subscription and in 3 months I already have $100 worth of games), but this adds more to it. I like it. What I like most about it is that it isn't just about video games. It's about everything. Movies, music, any Sony Entertainment purchase pretty much nets you points. Interestingly, as of this posting, Sony Rewards' website is down. Lol Guess they got hit pretty hard.

Here is the tweet. [i will embed the tweet when I figure out how.] I mean, tbh, this seems somewhat intuitive and a "given". In that if they already have Mantle in BF4, it should be portable/usable in all Frostbite games. I just thought it was a cool thing to consider. All Frostbite games have a natural advantage when using AMD over Nvidia now. When we look at future benchmarks for these games, remember that. Just remember, this will be true of any other developers who use Mantle in the future. So, it's more of a 1 time development cost, since Mantle is modular (you can use one part without using another, a game doesn't need to be designed purely for Mantle to use Mantle). So I don't think the whole "they have to learn a new language" thing for devs matters.

Hi Everyone, I was just on the BBC when I stumbled upon this interesting article about how Valve functions as a company. Well, because its Valve, I thought most of you would like to see this and I searched for a similar article on LTT Forum and found none. So, here you are. The article is basically outlining some of the companies employee structures and how they generally go about getting things done. I found it interesting about how they have no bosses, Gabe Newell included, and this apparently empowers the employees to make more independant decisions and work well with co-workers. Gabe Newell created this system because of his 13 years at microsoft constantly working in a employee-boss environment. Also, to help the employees work together on different parts of the game (or whatever), all of the furniture is on wheels and can be moved basically anywhere to help with the work flow. For employee rewards, I guess, Valve take their 300 employees and their families to a vacation spot for a week with all expenses paid. Considering most other companies that is a huge surprise and in the end probably benefits the work environment back at HQ. Valve, they just got even greater. Hey guys, I remember this topic from awhile back on another forum and I noticed the LinusTechTips Forum doesn't have anything like this as far as I know So I figured I'd make one here since I found it Extremely useful in the past ! Basically as the name hints, post software and programs that are absolutely amazing ! Things you can't live without now, and others may not have heard of or know about ! I'll start off with a few I can't live without, Foobar2000 - The ultimate freakin' media (music) player. It rocks, nothing compares. with this you have no excuse to use iTunes ! LunaScape6 - (Combines Webkit, Trident and Gecko (Internet explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome processing engines) Into one package which you can switch on the fly ! More useful if you're into web development especially ! CCleaner - If you haven't heard of it you've been living under Patrick Star's rock. Coretemp - Monitors temps and CPU use with taskbar features etc... my personal favorite is Coretemp but there is also RealTemp which is cleaner looking. RazerComms - Use it all the time to chat with friends when gaming, its ease of use is what makes it amazing, teamspeak and mumble etc... are more advanced and take alot more time and knowledge to set up and use properly. That's about it for me, what great programs do you guys have to share ?

Hi guys, Firstly, this video. Now, one very important thing to note is that this stuff flakes off when exposed to Sunlight (Ultraviolet radiation) for extended periods. You can buy it at Home Depot for about $20 a can. I want it. So bad. It can go on ALL THE THINGS. Maybe not plates or utensils to eat with, but the floor, my kitchen counters (where food is not supposed to be prepared), my mouse, my keyboard (so I can just dunk it in water to clean it). Here are some more videos to show it off: Super Hydrophobic spray-on coating. It is Oleophobic too. (Like it is with water, but with Oil.) Will this be the next Asbestos? Not sure. But it is fricking cool.

What do you think about the Oculus Rift?, Looking foward to it? maybe not so much? Pros? Cons? Lets talk about them! (My personal opinion is that the Oculus Rift is going to change the way we game, maybe not immediately, but in a few years. Its looks really cool to me. At this point in time, I dont think I would want to use it for every game, and It will be a big change ill have to get use to.)

Hi guys, So I just got out of a 2.5 hour IT meeting (longest we have ever had) and I thought I would post the highlights, there are a few. Quite a bit funny imo. Note: Our IT is structured as such, IT Manager (AKA The Captain, due to being in the military and owning a captain cap similar to what is in the show Gilligan's Island) Head Code Monkey (AKA Chancey, pronounced the same as the Pokemon but with Chon rather than Chan. A combination of his first and last name) Operations Supervisor (AKA Aloysius, his "royal" name, given because his last name is King, so he is the IT King. Aloysius is pronounced Al-oo-ish-us) Assistant Operations Supervisor (No nickname, sadly) Code Monkeys (affectionately called such, one is Karl and the other Binks, a nickname given to him based on his last name and his back and forth with Aloysius.) Art guy (No real nickname, but he is extremely color blind) Operation "people" (No real nickname beyond being shortened to "Ops") Intern (Me) I swear we should have a sitcom. But whatever, onto the highlights: Hope you guys enjoyed them. We have quite the crew. 2 females even. We are above the IT gender-ratio average by a whole 10%. Hopefully I will have more. P.S. A bonus, a favorite of the Captains: "I always ask the people at the local Mexican restaurant if their Niño meals use real niño. They never know what to say."
