I'm looking to upgrade my 8 yr old 1080p Samsung TV. Looking through the brands, they each seem to have more or less the same feature set (4K, some level of HDR, decent refresh rates), but the prices vary from as low as $900(Hisense, TCL) to $3000+ (Samsung, Sony,LG) Is this markup akin to the brand name markup you pay for Macs? Or is there a noticeable difference in the panels? I don't really game much, and looking more for the best cinematic TV. Budget would be $2500 Max. These are the TVs I've come across so far that seem to more or less have everything I'm looking for If anyone knows of any other/better options, I'd love to hear them

hoprfully i explain this properly but here goes so ive just moved into a new house (im in australia btw if that helps) and the internet from the road comes into the house in the garage and theres a second port in there aswell that goes to the kitchen. so i have one router in the garage (tplink archer vr600) taking in the fttn connection, and ive also got a server plugged directly into that router. and then ive got the other router (tplink archer vr2800) in the kitchen currently in bridge mode. ive currently got the router in the kitchen having all the devices connected to it but my problem is that i cannot access network shares etc from the server thats connected to the router in the garage. so i guess what im wanting is the have the router in the garage to act as just a modem but also share the network ports with the router in the kitchen. please let me know if you need more details or a network map or whatever

Hey there LTT Forum, I purchased the OnePlus 5 after a very very long time researching my phone choice upgrading from a hand-me-down iPhone 5s, to be honest I was sold after watching the LLT review on it... The phone is incredible and all of it's QoL features just make use of the phone a breeze, however roughly over a year into my use of the phone the touch display stopped functioning along with the "recent" and "back" buttons. The display functions and shows a display but I cannot touch or make use of it at all outside of the physical buttons. I sent in the RMA request and so far the process has been...interesting: rather than be shipped out a RTS parcel to drop my phone in, along with the charger/cable and ship it back to OP I am expected to purchase a parcel, print out labeling and wait for a courier to come to my house to pick up the package from me directly. This does seem a little strange and outside of the normal for RMA requests...now I love the phone and I still favour OP these RMA difficulties have shaken my loyalty to the brand a little. What are your thoughts? Icarus

Wow, SSD prices are dropping! The price of the Samsung 970 evo 500GB has dropped almost AUD $100 in the last few days, from $230 down to $139. You can get the Samsung 970 Evo 500GB SSD for AUD $138-139 from PCCG, eBay and shoppingexpress. Hi everyone, I am building my first gaming PC with little knowledge of PCs, however, I have had a look through dozens of PC building videos and talked to a few people who build their own, before I came up with the build below and a strict budget of $2000 AUD or less. I currently have a dying non-gaming laptop, meaning that I cannot transfer any parts and my goal is to verify compatibility and buy these parts by the next of this week. I have submitted this build on Pcpartpicker to check compatibility and it came back fine, but I want to be 110% sure. So, I am wondering is this build compatible? Or are there things you would change? The parts are: CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor (already brought) Motherboard: Asus - Prime Z370-P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard CPU Cooler: Stock Fan for now (maybe air cooler later) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate - BarraCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Dual Series Video Card Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Pro 5 RGB Black ATX Case, T/G Window, NO PSU Monitor: LG 24MK430H-B 24inch LED IPS Monitor PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650W Power Supply Total: $1920 or less (delivery considered) Further considerations: I am NOT interested in overclocking now or in the future. I am happy to use the normal keyboard and mouse I currently have. It must include a 24”, 1080p, 60hz, IPS monitor. I am hoping to transfer Windows 10 and Microsoft Office from my barely alive laptop to the new computer. I mainly play indie games (e.g. stardew valley), RPGs (e.g. Skyrim) and occasionally Triple AAA games / shooters (e.g. ARMA 3). I want capability for casual play of online multiplayer games (e.g. LoL). The top games I intend to play using this PC for are (in no order): Avorion Subnautica LoL The evil within Ghost recon Wildlands Two point hospital Dishonoured 2 Fable Dark Souls Dragon Age Origins The Settlers: Rise of an empire Metal Gear Solid V Darkest Dungeon Hellblade Divinity Original Sin 2 Fallout 4 XCOM 2 I will also use it for web browsing, studying, typing up reports, emails, watching YouTube among other things, but NOT for video editing or rendering. Tl;dr – I need help to ensure my first PC build is 110% compatible and that the build fits my needs. Thanks in advance

This is by far the best deal I've seen. They're typically around $620 with a couple of out of stock cards listed as $540 at MSY. But at ~$100 less than a GTX 1070 and only $100 more than an RX 580 it's pretty hard to pass up. https://www.pccasegear.com/products/44351/xfx-radeon-rx-vega-56-8gb

Summary Today the Australian government has announced that 2 million premises in the FTTN footprint will have access to FTTP with fibre on demand by 2023. Premises in the FTTC and HFC footprint will have access to up to Gigabit speed and premises in the existing FTTP footprint already have access to Gigabit speed. This upgrade is set to create 25,000 new jobs in engineering, construction, transport and project management. My thoughts Good news for those stuck on under performing FTTN connections! What a waste of time and money. If only Australia stuck with the original 93% FTTP plan but hey politics. Hi, Just planning on fixing my Wifi coverage and performance throughout my home. My current setup is a Huawei HG659 modem which then is connected to my Asus RT-AC88U router. My plan is to buy a new Modem preferably Asus to utilise the AiMesh feature so only need to use one dual band SSID. Just wanting to know whether the Asus DSL-AC68U modem will work on its own without the need of the my Internet providers modem (Huawei HG659) connected to it. Also Im from Australia and I'm using a service called NBN Fibre to the node because I've also read storys of lots of problem when setting up Asus modems with it. (https://www.nbnco.com.au/ ) Any help on this would be great. Cheers.

So my budget is a maximum of $200 AUD. I know this isn't going to get me a good long term chair, such as a Herman Miller, but that can't be helped, for now. The chair needs to have a mesh back and arm rests, on top of being of the ergonomic kind. I used to have a solid back chair that had pleather nylon combo padding going, gaming during Brisbane summer with only a tower fan for cooling is not a pleasant experience in that chair. Mesh back is a must. Sweaty backs are bad mmmkay. I've found a potential chair at office works, the doncaster high back, comes with all the adjustmen options, AND it's mesh backed. Which sounds perfect. What I want to know is, are there any other options in Brisbane? I want to make sure before I even commit to going to office works and trying out the chair there. Thanks for all the help

Hi there, I just started to read and watch youtubes regarding on how to setup NAS. I am really interested in setting up one. Maybe thinking of 4TBx2 and for backups plus media server. I realised Ryzen is not a good choice? The issues are, most of the server stuffs is really hard to find here in Australia. e.g. GA-7TESM gigabyte motherboard. Can any of you guys please give me a suggestion on the parts that I can buy here in Australia for a good NAS build? Thanks!

Hey hoping that LTT might be able to help out some of their Aussie fans. Keen to get our hands on the OnePlus 6 but currently still don't have a direct store to purchase from. And the official OnePlus website is still boasting the soft launch of the OnePlus 5 (not 5t or even an Australian version) from late last year. Can anyone from LTT or on this forum help us reach out to OnePlus and get us some answers as to IF we will see the OnePlus 6 in Aus and possibly when?

After a recent ACCC investigation into customer complaints stemming from "error 53" messages they received after an iOS update, Apple had a $9 million fine handed down a Federal Court. This after Apple admitted to misleading at least 275 customers as to their eligibility for repair. According to the ACCC The court found that the company did not have the right to deny service even if the customer had the device previously repaired by a third party. Further, the ACCC Commissioner clearly pointed out that if the device is faulty and the customer would like a new device or a full refund, they are entitled to demand such from Apple rather than a refurbished device. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-19/apple-fined-$9-million-for-misleading-customers/9885244

Telstra, a major telecommunications provider in Australia has been fined by the courts for ripping off its mobile phone customers by signing them up for a premium billing service they did not want, without their permission, and charging them a monthly subscription fee for the service, often without customers even aware they were being billed. The premium billing service was a system where the telecommunications provider offered billing services to third party companies where the billing would be charged via the account holders monthly phone bill rather than traditional payment methods. The service was activated as default for all of their customers and many customers weren't aware they were being billed for a service they didn't use. In some cases people were charged for the services when they were assigned a new phone number that had previously been associated with a different person who had signed up for the service (either intentionally or unintentionally). It has been revealed that the company has made over AU$60million from unlawful charges related to its premium billing services. The telecommunications company was fined only a fraction of this sum, being ordered to pay only AU$10 million in fines. This means after fines and legal fees, the Telco could be up to $50 million in profit from their dubious business practice. It goes on to say that Telstra was aware that it was ripping off customers and that doing so was an intentional act by the company. The charges were added to customers phone bills rather than being separately billed to their credit card or other payment method. This meant that users who did not review their monthly phone bill may not have noticed they were being charged extra for these services. Those who did discover the charges had difficulty cancelling the charges or seeking a refund for the charges as Telstra claimed that the customer would have to seek a refund from a third party company that Telstra was providing the billing service on behalf of. This is just one of the many reasons why Telstra is colloquially known as "Tel$tra" or "Hellstra". It's pretty sketchy in the way they billed customers without confirming with the customer before signing them up to expensive premium services. The fact that people were being billed for services that were tied with their phone number, even if it was previously another person who possessed the number that signed up for the service, just shows how little the company cares about its customers and that they don't give a damn that they're ripping them off. I'm sure their entire plan was to hope customers didn't realise they were being billed. Telstra is known to be absolutely horrendous when it comes to cancelling a service or trying to get a refund for incorrect charges, so I can't imagine the hoops that people had to jump through and number of phone calls to the service department that had to be made for someone to have the service cancelled after noticing it on their account. There is some hope for people who may have been incorrectly charged for the premium service, as it may be possible to seek a refund from the telecommunications giant for the charges. Users who have already contacted the company or the Telecommunications Industry Ombusman who have yet to receive a refund, should receive some communication from Telstra regarding a refund shortly. For other people affected you will need to contact Telstra yourself and seek a refund.
