So I figured I may as well post a topic about Mwave's Group Deals because some of you Aussies may be unaware of it. It's fairly just where prices on selected items are more often than not dropped dramatically, if not than there is still a nice amount of the price shaven off. Right now there are some pretty good deals, including: Razer Kraken Forged Edition Analogue Gaming Headphones for $200 ($100 off) Noontec Cubee 10,000mAh Portable Power Bank Black/White for $36 ($14 off) CM Storm MECH Aluminium Cherry MX Brown/Red for $150 (~$80 off) There are some more, interesting deals available, and remember that you can subscribe to Mwave to get an email every time a new set of/addition to the Group Deals are available. The Mwave Group Deals is actually how I got my current Z87X-OC motherboard for just $190 w/o shipping. I just thought to post this so that there might be a few people who can benefit from this. Cheers!

1. Budget & Location Budget: $1000 AUD location Australia Melbourne 2. Aim I plan to make a medium ranged gaming PC as I currently only have a laptop. Games I plan to be running on my gaming PC are Borderlands: the pre sequel, League of Legends, DOTA 2, CSGO and possibly some new releases in the future. Regarding my budget I am will to spend a maximum $1000 for the best performing PC I am a first time builder. 3. Monitors I plan to use on monitor, it’s a monitor that I already have. It’s a Asus VE248H Black 24" 2ms Full HD HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor w/Speakers 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 http://www.asus.com/au/Monitors_Projectors/VE248H/ Running is at 1080p 4. Peripherals Peripherals wise I have everything sorted out. I plan to be running windows 8.1 5. Why are you upgrading? I wouldn’t consider this an upgrade because I do not have a desktop, however I do want to move away from my laptop because it had no dedicated graphics card, horrible monitor and also because I don’t want to ware it out quickly, because I use it very frequently. With careful thought I have made the decision of building a desktop and I am certain it’s a good choice. 6. Hey guys, I'm from Australia and am low on cash, but I want a sweet gaming PC. I am hoping to build it. I was wondering if you guys could put together some parts lists for me and/or tell me what kinda performance I will be getting. I have put together a build here if you guys want to have a look. Peripherals are not included in this price. I am aiming for around the 1000 AUD mark, not 100 like in the title! (sorry for that typo) Motherboard - Gigibyte 78LMT-USB3 GPU - Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Boost OC 4GB RAM - Crucial Sport XT 8GB (2x4GB) Storage - Segate Barracuda 1TB CPU - AMD FX-8350 8 Core Black Edition PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 750W B2 Case - BitFenix Comrade Black Anyways I would love it if you guys could help me out. Thanks, Geordan

UPDATE: Motherboard is dead and it turns out that the repair shop doesn't have a 2011-3 motherboard to test the CPU and RAM. I'll rma the CPU and the motherboard because the CPU could be dead as well. Pc specs: https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=377454&action=wish_lists So my new computer was running just fine (got it a week ago). I shut it down after an update and I came back 5 mins later to turn it back on. About a second after I pressed the on button (all the LED's flashed on and all fans working), my lunch finished cooking and I rushed down stairs not looking back. I finished lunch and went upstairs, the computer wasnt on.. I pressed the power button thinking that for whatever reason it turned itself off. But no response came from the computer and there was no error LEDs but the power and reset leds were on. I tried pressing the power button on the motherboard, but all I could hear was a faint click. So after doing some research it turns out that I should check whether the motherboard boots on with only the motherboard connecter plugged in, so I unplugged the cpu connector (left the hard drives plugged in and the graphics card plugged in, also left the cpu cooler and fans plugged in). I turned the computer on and it worked with the 00 error displayed (leds on, gpu on, but fans not working). So I guessed that maybe the cpu power wasn't plugged in correctly. So I tried making the cpu plug as secure as I could and I turned the computer on... It didnt work... nothing, no LEDs, just a faint click sound. (is a click sound normal? Seems to only happen when I turn the power supply on before pressing the power button on the motherboard, if I leave the Power supply on and press the power button again, no click sound) Can sombody help me? is the cpu burnt out? Should I RMA the motherboard and cpu? BTW I updated the BIOS using EZ update recently (about a day or 2 ago), could that have caused it?

Hey guys, I'm building a new computer in December to replace this thing from the dark ages. I've already done some research and comparisons and have come up with what I think is a fairly cost/performance effective build. Just wondering if you guys had any recommendations for components I should swap, etc. I'll outline some points and decisions I've made so far before I list my part selections: I live in Australia so keep that in mind when looking at prices listed here. Ordering from one location only - ordering from two locations makes any savings on one particular item redundant as shipping has to be paid twice. Options are MWave (NSW) somewhat local, PCCG (VIC), CPL Online (VIC), unless someone knows somewhere better. Going for Nvidia rather than AMD due to Maxwell's efficiency and the desire to change after using various AMD chips for the last 7 years. Temperature is also an important factor due to the Australian summer (it's not even summer yet and it's 35 C as I am writing this). My last laptop GPU (Radeon 7670M) also fried itself this year whilst on idle due to inadequate cooling despite a cooling mat also being utilised at the time. Air CPU cooler because AIO water cooling exceeds the budget (AIO will be purchased at a later date by brother - see below) This is a build I'll be handing over to my brother around September, maybe later next year (I'll be building something better - probably 980Ti (if it happens) SLI or 980 8GB SLI - once the Intel Skylake chips are out) - at this point, he's fronting the cost of the GPU, possibly more. 650W PSU in case my brother decides to go for SLI in future or any future GPU upgrades, etc. Optical Drive is required - both my brother and I make frequent use of CDs. Going to give that Obsidian stealth drive mod a go for obvious reasons ^. In terms of cooling I'm more concerned with efficiency than noise - the room that the PC will be in has pretty horrendous ambient temperatures during summer which starts in December. Ergo that's why I decided on the Gigabyte over the MSI or ASUS. Personal budget is $1400~ AUD; Brother is currently at $519 - the cost of the GPU. Components: Case Corsair Obsidian 450D Mid-Tower Case $165 CPU Intel Core i5 4690K Mwave $285 CPL $279 PCCG $285 CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Mwave & PCCG $39 CPL $37 Motherboard ASUS Z97-A Mwave $195 PCCG & CPL $189 GPU Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB Mwave & PCCG $519 CPL $499 RAM G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Mwave $110 PCCG $109 CPL $105 PSU EVGA SuperNOVA 750G2 Gold Power Supply CPL $145 SSD Samsung 850 Pro 128GB Mwave & CPL $135 PCCG $139 HDD Western Digital 1TB Black Mwave $94.99 CPL $89 PCCG $95 Optical Drive ASUS DRW-24D3ST 24x $20 OS Windows 7 Home Premium Mwave $119 CPL & PCCG $115 Thermal Paste Arctic Cooling MX-4 $9 If you guys see anything of the components listed that there have alternatives with a better price/performance ratio let me know. Also let me know about your experiences with Mwave, CPL or PCCG or any of these components. I've also attached a PDF with all the parts and their prices for easier comparison. Thanks in advance guys EDIT: PCPartPicker list Temporary PC Build.pdf

Hey guys of LTT, just wondering what is your opinion on this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WCXxVn I would be upgrading from a : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/H8BNBm and all of this is inside a sharkoon t28. reason for upgrading- Well its been 2 generations in gpu's and I generally like to upgrade every 2 gens and im noticing some lag here and there when playing World of Tanks or bf4 on 1080p. I will be selling this to someone at my school for around $1.6k I paid 1.8k for it so i figured the money difference in selling the old and buying the new would only be $100 roughly. but i would add another 100 for shipping costs etc. SO YEAH. what would you guys do? All comments welcomed.

Hi, Looking for some advice, I play a lot of Co op games with my friend, But he does not have a PC. So he comes over and uses my Laptop on a TV, we get some drinks into us and have a good old time. But the laptop is close to becoming obsolete. So I was thinking of building a second PC and upgrading my PSU to 750 80+ modular, RAM to 16Gb and getting an AMD Gigabyte R9 270X 4Gb OC to run in CrossfireX with my 2Gb, and a top ventilated case. So basically Im looking for advise on building a PC with no RAM, PSU or case for around $350 AUD or a little more If I need to. Would have to be good enough to run games like DayZ at 35 to 40 FPS. Let me know what you think.

Hi guys I was looking at selling my ASUS GTX 760. I live in Australia and I cannot find any place other than linus and ebay to post my ad. So I reverted to asking whether there are any shops in the Brisbane region that buy 2nd hand gpus?

Okay, I'm going to try and not quote the entire article here, even though I really want to. First news post. This piece of legislation is a response to the recent terrorist activity that's been happening in Australia. Source: http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/consumer-security/terror-laws-clear-senate-enabling-entire-australian-web-to-be-monitored-and-whistleblowers-to-be-jailed-20140926-10m8ih.html First of all, the unlimited access to any and every device upon a network: So the government now has access to absolutely everything they want to, as well as being able to control it, even if it's not the device that they're targeting. Next up; what happens if you're a whistleblower, journalist or even a normal person who leaks information. The government want's to keep it's secrets, and it'll jail the shit out of anyone who thinks about doing otherwise. Now, something to ice the cake on just how extreme this is: Yup, it would have allowed them to torture people, keeping in mind that could be any average person who leaks information. Now, this is batshit fucking crazy you say. Well, you're right, and there are some good politicians who tried to do something about it. Senator Brandis being the asshat behind all of this. Oh, and you know that thing about the government forcing ISP's to store data? So they ended up sneaking it in to a different piece of legislation, like they always fucking do. Now, finally, what some of the others had to say about this. And finally, the comment I think best sums up the situation: Sorry for all those quotes, I just felt that it was necessary to make sure I included everything I needed to. I personally think that the current direction is going to make Aus go to complete shit, but all in the name of protecting the people. I used to get angry, then for a while I stopped caring, but now I'm just incredibly frustrated. You know that feeling you get when you just want to punch the living daylights out of someone, but you really can't? Yeah, just like that. I think that the terrorist actions have been completely wrong, and that the reasons behind those actions are also wrong, but I can see how these sort of actions by the govt are going to edge people closer to taking doing crazy things against the country, and it's government.

Hello I plan to build a gaming pc soon and I already have an XFX R9 280X DD black OC edition it looks beautiful but i can't use it yet Here is the link for the parts that I have come up with so far: Here - Budget: $600-$700 preferably closer to $600 - Zip Code or Location: Queensland, Australia, 4740 - Specific Use: Gaming mostly, Minecraft with friends (because there PC's suck) as well as COD Black Ops 2, GMod and various other steam games probably with other friends(who have decent PC's) - Any preferred components: Haswell CPU (i was thinking I5 4440) because i will upgrade later to a 4770k and I don't want to have to do Mobo and Cpu at once as it will probably be to expensive - Any spare parts you can re-use: I have a R9 280X that I'm going to use - Overclocking your processor: Probably not - Need an Operating System:No I have a $100 gift card that I can use - Need a Monitor? / Mouse? / Keyboard: No, No and no - Need a Wireless Card or Adapter: If the mobo doesn't have wireless built in - Need Another Component: I don't think so Other Useful Info - Preferred Case: Thermaltake Chaser a-21 - Number of Monitors: 1 (1080p) with an old secondary one to have Skype open as well - Other Info: I will be buying mostly from PC case gear unless there are good sales somewhere else, I plan to upgrade everything in this build so over time (thats why i need Haswell) i will have 2 computers and then I will be selling this to my Brother and/or Sister eventually so it must be able to run Sims 3(and 4 when it comes out) SMOOTHLY Goodnight everybody I will check this again in the morning. Yawn, also sorry if there is something wrong with this post I'm still kinda new at forums.

I'm looking for a headset with the following features: 7.1 or 5.1 surround sound (if not digital tell me why digital is bad) Leatherette ear cups (with noise canceling) Comfortable with extended use Good quality sound (i listen to music with lots of bass) Microphone that is really good Price under $150 AUD (maybe $200) USB or 3.5mm (pink and green jack) Hopefully a controller with volume and mic mute whether on the cord are headset. I'm looking for something to game with for hours on end but have great sound as well I'm currently using the Logitech G35 7.1 surround sound headset but am looking for something more reliable and hopefully better. There are so many to choose from and not enough thorough reviews for me to make a definite decision. Please share your experiences, opinions and recommendations on any headsets that have the above features. What are the pro's and cons of your recommendations? Thank you for your help.

Hi everyone, first post here and first (proper) pc is going to be in the works soon! I'm here looking for some advice on parts. After much reading and watching on the internet (of Linus' videos and other sources too) I've come up with a list of parts that I think will suit my budget of ~AU$1000 (yay for Australian prices!) pretty well. But first - what do I want from this PC? Well, here are the general requirements: Almost exclusively for gaming (I have a MacBook that I can do any High School and in the not too distant future Uni work on). I play pretty much all kinds of games, but the main one for me is Assetto Corsa (I am a bit of a petrol head, so racing games are the number 1 component of my library). Other games that I enjoy include Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, and a bit of Civ 5 and occasional Minecraft with friends. Yes, I am a very diverse gamer - pretty much the only things I don't play are MMOs. I will be using a 1080p monitor, and although in the future I'd like to move to triple 1080p monitors, I won't be any time soon and will get a new graphics card for that when the time comes. Must be small. I want to be able to transport it in luggage, particularly because I may be going interstate for Uni. Cases that I am most keen on are the Corsair 250D, the Silverstone Raven RVZ01 and the EVGA Hadron Air (although it is a little on the expensive side for me). Must have Wifi. Just needs it. Also, I'd prefer to have the slim sticking-out-the-back type of antenna which I think this MSI board has, whereas others seem to have separate antennas connected by long cables. I don't plan to over clock. So stock CPU cooler is fine. Needs an optical drive. Again, it just needs it. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz Dual-Core Processor ($135.00 @ PCCaseGear) Motherboard: MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($125.00) Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($105.00 @ Mwave Australia) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.00 @ PCCaseGear) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($229.00 @ PCCaseGear) Case: Corsair 250D Mini ITX Tower Case ($119.00 @ CPL Online) Power Supply: FSP Group 550W 80+ Silver Certified ATX Power Supply ($85.00) Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer ($22.00 @ Mwave Australia) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($115.00 @ CPL Online) Total: $1004.00 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) (Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-03-08 23:18 EST+1100) NB: PCPartPicker's Australian section seems to not have a lot of the latest stock at PCCaseGear, which is where I'd prefer to buy my parts from, FYI. Some notes on this parts list: This is pretty much the limit of my budget. I could perhaps go for a few more dollars but $1050 would be the ABSOLUTE maximum. The EVGA card there is the FTW edition. I know the Mobo only supports 1600mhz RAM and mine is 1866, but they are currently the same price so may as well get the 1866, even if it runs at 1600. I don't care for having an SSD, I'd rather spend the money elsewhere and then I'll think about an SSD in the future. Yes I'd like one, no I don't want to pay for it. I want Windows 7, because I often play some older games (racing sims) that I'm not sure behave well under W8. Also, a general question on RAM speeds - from what I can understand, you need to use XMP in order to get speeds higher than 1600mhz. So far, I've seen mixed opinions on whether a Mobo with an H87 chip with XMP support and RAM with XMP support can together use more than 1600mhz. Some say yes, others no... help? I think that's just about everything, so thanks in advance for your help

Good show Australian government! (PS: I know another thread already exists on the subject, this one just happens to have links to the news story and a link to the pdf regarding the refused classification. Plus I felt it was worth putting the subject into tech news because let's face it it's tech related in some way.)

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone from Melbourne, Australia could help me with my (semi)new build. Please see thread:http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/15451-updating-my-pc-mobo-gfx-cpu-cpu-cooler-help/ I'm now looking for someone to help me with the physical side of the build (i.e. installing everything) because I want to learn how to do this stuff rather then handing it on to a PC shop to do it for me. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated, I can provide some remuneration for your time if necesssary. Thanks for taking the time to read this post!
