I never build a pc myself and now that is saved up some cash I wanted to use this opportunity to build my own pc. The type of workload I want to do with that build is mostly video editing, graphics and maybe some 3D work all around the adobe software. So Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and maybe (Cinema 4d), so i think a good graphics card, 32 gb of ram, an i7 cpu and an SSD (paired with a mediadrive) are best. Also i want to run two full hd monitors on this build. Maybe two BenQ GL2450HM 61 cm (24") Gaming on this build would be optional, but i would like to play for example Far Cry 4, The Division (when released), Fallout 4 (when released), Battlefield 4 or Assassins Creed. But playing is not the major priority, although I think this rig would be suited for these games. I would like to get some opinions on this build! As well as some problems I could possibly run into using this system. Here are the parts that i choose: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D2G2wP Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D2G2wP/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($328.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.98 @ OutletPC) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($6.79 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z87 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($127.89 @ OutletPC) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($207.98 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($97.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($88.41 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card ($507.82 @ Amazon) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Micro Center) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($62.98 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: LG WH16NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($54.89 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) ($86.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $1717.69 Thank you, for your help!

Alright, so I'm graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in Screen Arts and Cultures at the end of August. I recently left my job to focus on finishing school, so I don't have the money to really start this build yet, but I was hoping to get some feedback. I plan to use this thing as a workstation and also as a serious gaming machine. I was working as a cinematographer/editor at my most recent place of employment and using my late-2011 Macbook Pro to process video-content. All things considered, the old girl has performed pretty admirably, but even with 16gigs of ram and a 240gb SSD (both courtesy of OWC) I'm dealing with some ridiculous render-times especially when processing higher bitrate video. I've got a cooling pad, but it does very little to prevent the thermal-throttling problems that plague pretty much all macs. I'm pretty new to building PCs, but this may I threw together a gaming rig for my brother and I'm really eager to have one for myself. I already bought the case when I bought the parts for my brother because I figured it would motivate me to build my own system, but money is probably going to be an issue until I'm no longer dealing with school. Multitasking is pretty important to me since I want to minimize downtime in my workflow, as well as do some twitch streaming and game-capture stuff. I'm really wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to a six-core i7 instead of going with the 4790k, but I think the eight threads should be enough especially if I get a capture-card. I haven't picked a graphics card yet, but I think I'm going to either wind up being stingy and get a gtx970 (probably Strix, I'm kind of an ASUS fanboy) or just spend all the money and try to score a gtx980 ti. I'd appreciate any feedback you guys can give me, including monitor suggestions because finding something at a reasonable price point with professional color-depth and gaming-level refresh rates seems like an impossible task. I primarily use Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Speedgrade. I've been messing around with Blender a little bit lately as well. Hey guys, I am going off to film school in a couple of months, and I need a laptop to do my editing work, and also maybe some light gaming. I am going to be using the following applications: Adobe Premiere Pro Adobe After Effects Adobe Photoshop Sony Vegas Pro. DaVinci Resolve Lite I am thinking about the Lenovo Y50 4K version, since reviews say that the 1080p version has poor colour reproduction. Also, the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series (2015). It would be great if i got some advice on which laptop to get. And also if the laptops mentioned above are good enough. Games that I would want to play would be: GTA V Far Cry 4 Battlefield Hardline, etc Running these games at high settings isn't a priority. Even if the laptops manage to run these games at meduim or a bit high, it's okay, but the laptop should be fast enough for the above mentioned editing applications. (Also, since I live in India, getting my hands on brands such as MSI or Asus is hard, especially the higher end ones.) My preferred platform is Windows, since the highest end MacBook Pros cost a bomb here. (They're around $3000 completely maxed out) Thanks in Advance!

This is my first time building a PC and I'm a newbie in this forum. Budget and location: Aim is below $1000, but I can go a little higher if it is absolutely necessary or give much better value. Location is Vietnam and the local price is provided in the table below, Also note that I'll be moving to Japan for about 4 years in September so some stuff like screens I will need to buy in Japan with a higher price and I will not have warranty in case something happens. Aim/ My main use: Play Dota 2, LoL, Heartstone, Elsword (light of graphic games) Use Photoshop (usual file size 20MB, sometimes 200MB, rarely go up to 1gb) 3D work (novice level) Video editing (mainly Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe After Effects) Running 3 - 4 facebook games at once Monitors Currently I have no monitors Main screen 2560 x 1440 or 2560 x 1600 Main screen size 22" or 24" inch secondary screen, no preference other than small, mainly will be used for utility like task manager or check my pc stats Peripherals: I have nothing for PC, prefer using window 8.1. Reason for upgrading: I had a Samsung Series 5 as heavy work machine, but it got stolen by a burglar. The other laptop I have is a Sony Vaio Tab 11, which can barely can handle heavy work with everything else closed. Note: I'm not planning to overclock the CPU, I tend to have bad luck with technology, but that is not the absolute decision. Thank you very much.

Hi Guys, So I think it's time to upgrade from my trusty GTX 660, but I just don't know what card would be best for me. My build is primarily a workstation for editing my weekly YouTube videos, but I also play a fair bit of CS:GO and Shadow of Mordor. I encode with Adobe Media Encoder and edit using Premier Pro, Photoshop and After Effects; so I'm looking for a card that's gonna speed up my exports and smooth out any GPU accelerated features. My Current Build: AMD FX8350 @ 4.0 GHz ASRock 990FX Extreme3 Mobo GigaByte Windforce GTX 660 OC Edition Corsair RM750 PSU Noctua NH-D15 Cooler Fractal Design Define R4 Samsung 212 Evo SSD WD Green HDD WIn 7 I have no preference between team green or red. Many thanks, Callum

I'm going to be traveling around to different studios soon for many film and art projects around the area, The problem is, it might be really necessary to have a laptop on board when talking to the other members of this project. I'm not going to be home much, for this, meaning i'm not going to lug my Gaming/Workstation desktop around the places lol The hard part is, I need one that can handle After effects and maybe 3ds max (Sorta-heavy load) well. With these words alone, I know it's going to break the bank. Keep in mind, there is NO intent on gaming with this at all. All of that is at home. So my questions is, what laptops do you guys recommend? Another things to note: A friend of mine suggested buying a decent laptop, for pretty cheap (i5-ish), then buying more RAM. I'm not educated enough to rule this as a stupid or smart idea, sooo yea haha Just throwing that info out there

Hi, i edit videos, quite alot actually. And i'm running windows 7 right now, so i wanted to know if it was worth upgrading to windows 8 because it's got better performance. I wouldn't say my video editing is the most demanding, i just take footage and add some effects and time remapping in after effects. Here are my specs incase you need them: Intel core i5-4430 16GB corsair vengeance LP ram asus GTX 760 Samsung 840 series 120GB SSD (I'm a complete noob at hardware stuff, so please don't throw that at me.)

Hello LTT Forum Peoples, I really need to upgrade my trusty GTX 660 and I've been looking extensively at the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming card as an upgrade; it fits perfectly into my budget (£200-£350), looks awesome, fits my colour scheme brilliantly and produces amazing results in games. First and foremost my build is an editing machine, although many would argue I could have built better for this purpose, and I wanted to make sure that the 970 would give me a significant improvement in my work-flow. I use Adobe Creative Suite CC (Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop) but I don't do any 3D modelling/animation work. I'm sure I would be better off buying a much more powerful card such as a Titan but I just can't afford it, although I am open to any recommendations for the red team if that would be better for me. Many thanks, Ca11umH My Rig: AMD FX 8350 @ 4.0 GHz Noctua NH-D15 Gigabyte GTX 660 Corsair RM750 Samsung 840 EVO SSD Western Digital Green HDD

Hi, I'm new around here and I couldn't find anything about this. I'm planning on building a machine with 2 cards. One exclusively for gaming and another exclusively for editing. So, which GPU is the best one for video editing? Price is not an issue at this point.

Hi, I need new PC for my bachelors degree thesis: lots of Blender stuff, I can do final renders at schools pc farm (4K, 8K), but I have to be able to render previews in reasonable resolution and time. Yes I do play games, but I don’t need to have all settings ultra… And I do some After Effects work (not much) I insist on nVidia GPU and Intel CPU (openGL development - library dependencies…) This is what i have so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2ybvmG EDIT: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/n3jyyc // alternative version after some changes from your comments - this costs 1250 USD where I live... i5-4690 gtx760 8GB RAM 256GB SSD 1TB HDD Gigabite Z97X Gaming 3 motherboard Would you, pc build masters, pick different parts for the build? Additional info for those, who don’t mind reading a bit more: My budget is about 1200 USD. I could spend a bit more, I just don’t like to overkill when buying tech stuff. I’d much rather upgrade my pc after a year or so with more memory, more storage or better gpu, it it would be worth it. I was thinking about the new gtx970, but gtx760 looks already pretty powerfull to me and I’m not sure about the extra money. I’m also not a big fan of overclocking (invest in better collers etc, why not to buy better in component in the first place?), but if you convince me it’s worth it, then sure, why not. Thanks for all you thoughts and replies, Mikolas

buils a pc around the best video card please
zero2infiniti posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi i am a photographer and i am planning to build a new pc for my business. I want the best video card for photo editing on at least two screens (which i have). Then i want to build the system around that. I am somewhat prepared to spend what i need but i think $1500 is close to mu upper limit. compromises i am willing to make are :- 1, heat for performance 2, form factor for expansion (maybe adding more hard disks or a second v-card for sli) 3, final look (it does not need to have unnecessary bells and whistles like lights and windows however, as a photo-edit pc it must be able to be calibrated and have accurate color reproduction of skin tones) 4, Final compromise i am willing to make is i want to have included in the config a backup system for my archives of shoots. I CANNOT LOOSE ANYTHING so either a raid system or a redundant drive backup if raid will be slower. thanks to everyone and anyone who helps me with my build and if your in the nyc area hit me up i'll take care of your photo needs thanks.- 3 replies

Hi Guys, So I know this proably sounds really nooby but I'm currently running a GTX 660 and I wondered if SLI with another would decrease my adobe premier pro/ after affects encoding times. I didn't want to go out and buy another to discover it won't make a difference! Much love, Callum youtube.com/Ca11umH

It's at 1:15 So this is pretty awesome. In the past you've needed to use a hack to get an unsupported gpu to run with the adobe mercury playback engine, and that was pretty shady. But now you can use any gpu that fits the minimum specs that Adobe has given, even if they haven't tested the card. Adobe is definitely one of those companies that listens to its customers.

Hello! I just needed to find out if there's any Laptops out there that easily handle HD video editing within after effects, and premiere pro! I have a budget of up to $2,000. I know it'd be cheaper to get a desktop, but I need the portability of a laptop. Please help!

I will be building a new pc very soon and have opted to use the i7 4770k as I will be doing a lot of video editing. How much of a difference does hyperthreading make with editing? Is it double? And also how much better is streaming with hyper threading enabled? Thanks, Blueprint

This will be the RIG i wanted to buy but i have concern on GPU. I really cant decide which one to buy pls help Intel Core i7 4770K "Haswell" CPU Intel 520 Series 240GB SSD ASUS Sabertooth Z87 motherboard WD Green 3TB hard drive Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 RAM Ax1200 power supply H100i cpu cooler 2 x ASUS Pro Art 248Q 24" monitor These are the GPU's i have in mind. GTX 660 TI GTX 680 GTX 780 money is not a concern, my concern is which one do better on cad, premiere pro cs6, vegas, after effects cs6 and maya, i rarely play games. If the difference between those 3 cards are just a few seconds cut on rendering then there is no point buying the expensive card but if there some sort of a new effects that only work on gtx 780 then ill buy it. Also the power consumption if i can save more on electricity by using gtx 780 and can render fast then ill buy it otherwise pls suggest which is better. Please let me know as i dont want to overkill everything i want my whole system to perform at least 80% of its power nonetheless im just wasting money. also there are variants of memory included on each cards let say gtx 680 has 2gb and 4gb while gtx 780 have 3gb you think memory counts too? If you want to suggest other GPU let me know.

Hey guys, havnt build a pc in a while so i need some help with my next build So im helping my mate build a pc because his laptop finally pooped out. He needs a pc for gaming (mostly league of legends), video editing (adobe after effects), and music making (Abelton Live and FL Studio). The problem is his budget is $1250~ NZD which isnt a lot for that kind of computer He already has a hard drive and mouse. This means he will need a cpu, mobo, gpu, ram, case, psu, monitor and keyboard. I know this is an incredibly low budget for a video editing machine but its all he has for now Another question is, if he already has Windows installed on the hdd, will it work on the new pc? Just needed help because i dont know if there are parts that work well with the applications mentioned. If possible use https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ Thanks for the help guys, even if the build isnt possible with the budget any help is appreciated
