Budget (including currency): 250 usd Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Davinci Resolve, Adobe Photoshop, OBS Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): GTX1050TI, Cooler Master Masterbox 5 (build would be around 350 including the graphics card and the case.) These parts we have received: Processor: Xeon E5-2650 V2 8 Cores 16 Threads 2.6 ghz 3.5ghz Turbo: 30 USD Motherboard: Dell T Precision 3600 Server Board: 45 USD Ram: 32 GB Crucial DDR3 ECC Memory @1600mhz for Dell Precision T3600: 65 USD Cooler: Enermax ETS-T40 Fit up to 200W TDP Air Cooler for Lga 775/1366/1150/2011: 29 USD These parts we are still waiting on: Storage: Kingston 240gb SSD Sata 3 2.5": 26USD Western Digital 1TB Blue 7200RPM Sata 6 Gb/s: 40usd 8in 24 Pin ATX 2.01 Power Extention cable Atx (m) to Atx (f): 6 Usd 6 Pin PCIE M to Female Power Extension Cable: 3.5 USD Part we need to return: EVGA 500B 80+ BRONZE PSU: 47usd Parts in consideration after the PSU return: Antec EA-650 Green 12V 80+ Bronze 650W Psu: 48 usd Hurdles about this build: We will need to do something similar to what Linus did in scrapyard wars with the Lenovo pcs where we have to rewire the power supply to work on the proprietary pinout, luckily someone on the Hardware Canucks forum named Enaberif has already successfully done this and has provided a pinout map of the connector The ECC memory only works with a 630W + PSU from the server it was supposed to be in, so unless we have a way to ignore the ECC requirement, we will need to ship back the PSU we bought on ebay to find something with a 650W+ 80+ bronze rating that will still fit in our budget. (has to be around or the same price we paid for the 500W unit). Soldering Iron Required, I do not own one myself, but I have a friend in town in one who will let me use theirs, so additional cost for solder is also something to keep in mind. If anyone can I need recommendations on any old PSUs [pref with an 80+bronze rating] that they could recommend within the budget of 48-50 usd that have the ketchup and mustard cables so that I wouldn't feel bad destroying a modern psu for this, thank you in advance!

Interesting. Might be worth delving into a bit on the WAN show. Some folks who've bought Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600Xprocessors have found that their chips have two more cores than expected, which can only be described as a massive win on the CPU lottery. These CPUs should have six cores and 12 threads, but reports on Korean forums (spotted by Wccftech) say some users have found they have eight cores (and 16 threads) out of the box. The processors still run at the clock speeds quoted for the 1600X and 1600, but come with a pair of extra cores. http://www.techradar.com/news/some-ryzen-5-1600x-buyers-have-found-their-6-core-cpu-has-8-cores

Hi everyone I need some advice and recommendations on getting a CAD workstation. The budget is really tight £1,000. I can't seem to decide between building a - - Asus Prime B350 plus -Ryzen 7 1700X 8 core CPU -GTX 1060 3GB -16GB RAM *DDR4* TOTAL £756 OR buying TWO Old Dell Precision T5600 workstations at £500 each with the following specs PC 1 Dell T5600 - Dual Intel Xeon 2690, 8 core each totaling to 16 cores and 32 threads -64GB RAM *DDR3* -Nvidia Quadro K620 Price £600 PC 2 Dell T5600 Dual Intel Xeon E5-2660, 8 core each, totalling to 16 cores and 32 threads aswel -GTX 1050 2GB -32GB RAM *DDR3* Price £500 Which of the above scenarios would you recommend in terms of Performance and Value? I know going with Dell systems means saying goodbye to the latest CPUs and DDR4 but the Dell systems will also give me a total of 32 cores and 64 threads combined with lost of DDR3 RAM on both machines. Please Advise Thanks

So I was googling for new Intel i9 9900K rumors and saw the latest leaks, but it sparked a new curiosity in me. Something I'd completely forgotten about -- the Ryzen 2800X. I saw a couple folks mention that AMD is holding back on a Ryzen 2800X release until the new Intel i9 9900K specs are confirmed. The conjecture, I saw, is that AMD is waiting to finalize the Ryzen 2800X so that it best competes with the upcoming 8-core Intel offering. I guess what I am asking of you fine folks is how you would assume AMD can accomplish that. Will AMD find a way to shoe-horn more cores into a 2800X? Is it possible they may be able to offer higher clocks? The 2950X does get a slightly higher-end so perhaps some refinement can speed up the current silicon? Or maybe more stringent binning for identifying chips that can run faster? There isn't much in the Googles, right now, so let's play the speculation game.

Hi there, I'm not a gamer, actually software analyst by day and pc builder/tinkerer enthusiast by night. I love getting cheap old tech to overperform! Currently running an AMD FX 8120 8 Core at 4.4 ghz and it never goes over 45 °C under heavy load! Current Spec; Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU AMD FX-8120 18 °C Zambezi 32nm Technology RAM 16 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 26 °C Graphics P24RD0117E (1366x768@59Hz) 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 (NVIDIA) 31 °C I also have a 1TB WD Blue and a Kingston 120GB 2.5 Sata SSD (Boot Drive) which is not that good mainly because of capacity I guess?? So I recently bought an NVME m.2 (also Kingston) 240 GB SSD. Problem is even with a PCIe adapter becasue of the above MOBO (Old Skool Dual BIOS EFI/Legacy) it won't boot from it (Recognizes in Windows and is usable though). I have read about cloverleaf workaround and a few other things but am just thinking of doing a slight upgrade to a similar board and chip but just UEFI so I can boot from PCIe NVME SSD and hopefully have something a bit better and quicker. So my questions were firstly is it worth trying to do this (NVME via PCIe) or should I just buy a 500gb SATA SSD and forget about it? Does anyone have any experience of getting old BIOS to boot from PCIe? Secondly if I do the upgrade what is the best possible chip I could get for overclocking (bearing in mind I'm running a corsair liquid cooler and a LOT of efficient fans to achieve a very stable 4.4 GHz on current setup and I've had it boot windows at 4.7 but it crashed right at the end of Cinibench!. Or if I wan't to do NVME on a budget what is the best board and chip to use without having to buy everything else again? Has anyone done similar and do other people share my passion for making cheap relatively old Hardware respectably fast by modern standards? (Hence why I also love Scapyard Wars)!!! Like I said not fussed about gaming hence the crappy Graphics Card by modern standards but you can still play some good driving sims on it without issue and I'm not picky when it comes to FPS etc... I'd love to hear from fellow enthusiasts and pros. Hit me back! Cheers! Phil

Hey Guys! Again I bring (probably) one the dumbest questions out there. Did AMD ever launch a 8 core fm2+ cpu? I can't find anything on any retail sites. Thoughts? Hi Guys and Gals, I've been watching Linus & Co on the YouTube side for a while and decided to jump in deeper and get involved with the community. I'm looking to build my first rig; upgrading from a macbook pro and rejoining the PC Master race for the first time in a decade. My job involves a heavy amount of video editing and animation so the primary purpose will be video related, along with a small amount of gaming and dipping my toes into steam. I'm looking forward to nuking Gandhi in Civ 6. I'll be twinning it with a 4k television as a monitor, with plans to upgrade later down the pipeline to a standalone rig. I was wondering if anyone has done a similar build or had any issues with the parts in my list? I'm slightly worried about being forward thinking and not bothering with an optical drive, when it comes to OS and driver installs after the build is finished. Without further ado, the parts list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MsG3Z8 Any comments or advice would be welcomed before i sink any money into this build. Cheers Josh

So Microsoft mentioned in that over-the-top (kind of Hooli-ish) commercial for Scorpio that it will have an 8 core CPU. I remember Linus (or somebody) saying that game devs are still having trouble utilizing quad cores. Is this marketing or "future-proofing?" Or something else entirely?

So as far as engineering samples, they've already been distributed to various partners for testing these chips, which is reasonable since projected release for Zen. AM4 mobos are also sampling obviously. So and 8 core CPU in 95W thermal envelope with base frequency of 3GHz, boost not mentioned yet. As far as 14Nm LPP process, I would expect higher clock for this CPU on it. In article it's also stated that release Zen will certainly clock higher. Look at FX-8300 with 95W TDP clocks 3.3 base, 3.6 full turbo, 4.2 half turbo and it's an 8-core. It's also 32nm part. Therefore expecting Zen to have high frequency is justifiable. Hello to everyone at the Linus Tech Tips forums, this is my first time posting here but I have been watching the Linus videos on YouTube for a while now and this is a community that I trust. In a nutshell, this computer isn't getting the FPS that I think it should be, primarily on Battlefild 4. It was also getting low FPS in League Of Legends (around 30-40 FPS) but that seems to have been rectafied with a BIOS (UEFI) update. The low and inconsistant FPS in Battlefield remains although it seems to have gotten marginally better, but that could just be placebo. League of Legends seems to loading a bit slower than it should be as well, although Battlefield seems to be loading as it should. So far I have updated to the latest VGA drivers (14.12) - http://tinyurl.com/lkxd52r and the latest chipset drivers (They seemed to be a lot newer on the AMD website than compared to the ones on the manufacturer's website.) - http://tinyurl.com/lwaooto I have also updated the BIOS to the latest version from the ASRock website (Version 2.70) - http://tinyurl.com/ky4vds5 Another thing that I have done is to ensure that the GPU isn't thermal throttling. The case is large enough with adequate enough airflow for this configuration. I haven't tried formatting the machine yet. The computer's specs are as follows; Motherboard - ASRock 990FX Extreme 4 - http://tinyurl.com/6rr6gkr CPU - AMD FX-8150, Eight Core, 3.6GHz (Not overclocked) - http://tinyurl.com/k8od4hg GPU - AMD R9 290X, 4GB VRAM, Referance design card (Unsure of the manufacturer as the computer is owned by a friend of mine. I think it is an XFX card.) - http://tinyurl.com/kmfcxq7 RAM - Corshair Dominator Platinum, 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24 Timings, 1.5V, 2 x 4GB Sticks (ver:2.12) - http://tinyurl.com/o4n4wjs PSU - EVGA Supernova NEX750G, 750W, Fully Modular - http://tinyurl.com/ow2me9v HDD - 1x ADATA Premier Pro SP900 SSD, 120GB (Boot drive where both Battlefield and LoL is stored) - http://tinyurl.com/mhjbtv5 HDD 2 - 1x Seagate Barracuda 1TB Mechanical HDD, ST1000DM003-9YN162 - (can't find a resource for this drive) CPU Cooler - Antec Kühler h₂o 920 - http://tinyurl.com/ofgpos6 OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit If any more information about the system is required, let me know and I will provide it. One of the things I am after is a way of quantifying the gaming performance of the computer, I.E. some kind of benchmarking software. This will enable me to have a consistant test for any changes that have been made and will hopefully provide a point of reference for the computer as it is now. It will also provide a comparrison for how this system should be running. Please feel free to let me know about any other information you require or any benchmarking results that would be helpfull. Thanks in advance, Dave

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1vKYbHH Amazon: http://geni.us/3pRn Since the release of Haswell-E, there has been a lot of discussion about whether a CPU with 8 cores is really necessary for most prosumers. So, we decided to test what kind of real workload an 8 core, hyper-threaded CPU can handle.

Recently, I built a rig with an M5A99X motherboard, MSI R9 290, 8 gigabytes of ram from Corsair, and an FX-8350. I've done a little bit of research on the CPU, and a lot of people say that it's better for multitasking and multi thread programs than the i5 equivalents, but the i5 is better at single thread programs such as most games. I'm wondering, is the FX-8350 still powerful enough to run games such as Planetside 2 or War Thunder? Because I've noticed that I sometimes get 35FPS framerate drops in Planetside 2, and it's not likely that the R9 290 is causing this (1080p resolution). Any help would be appreciated. PS. Sorry if this is a noob question, I'm still a computer noob. Just 2 months ago I was still using Pentium G620 + Integrated Graphics

Since new flagship phones are coming with quad cores processors, HTC was reported to have an upgraded flagship model HTC One in the works. And it seems this upgraded HTC One may have a 8 core cpu and 3GB ram. Besides, it was rumored to have a feature called "Clear Audio" for clearer calls, and it will support more LTE bands, covering all networks across US, Europe and Asia. Lastly it was rumored to have a stronger, lighter body along with Gorilla Glass 3 screen, and Android 4.4. Except all these changes, other parts remain the same as the original HTC One, 4.7-inch display, UltraPixel camera and a 2,300mAh battery. Unfortunately, there is still no official confirmation of this upgraded HTC One at this moment. http://androidcommunity.com/htc-one-with-an-8-core-processor-reportedly-in-the-works-20130923/ Update: The original Greek site which posted this news, TechCommunity, updated their story, saying (with English translation from Google) http://techcommunity.gr/2013/09/23/exclusive-htc-working-on-an-octacore-htc-one/ (in Greek)

What do you guys think the likelihood of 6 core and 8 core Skylake processors are in the future? Do you think they are coming? Why or why not?
