  1. It's not up to MS but Canon. The chances are that the answer is no. If you want to upgrade you will need to get a Win 10 compatible printer.
  2. And what has this whole thread been about? Foundries' fuckups that cause people like Keller to bail before product can hit the floor. It's not pretty but Intel seems to have the *least* amount of problems. One reason is that they are very far ahead of anyone else, allowing them the luxury of working out the issues for several years before going "live". The fact that AMD isn't pushing them has helped immensely as well. It's why they've already broken ground on a 10nm fab to be ready for service in a couple of years. Absolutely no other commercial fab is even going there yet. Only IBM is doing R&D with smaller processes but IBM has no intention of commercially building any chips.
  3. I think you're right. I think I'm conflating the GPU issues that TSMC is having @16nm with GloFo problems @14nm. Either way, neither is coming up roses. And I just heard that Glofo is now saying 1st qtr 2017. That's waaaay too long. I don't know if AMD can hang on that much. It's too bad that they don't have the resources to whip out a FM4 chipset and refresh their line with new m/bds. See if there was something that could supercharge the current lineup. Of course, if it was that easy, they would have done it by now. It just goes to show just what the powerhouse Intel is. They make it look easy.
  4. Ok. You've got it plugged into the wrong socket. Switch it to Port 0 or 1. This is assuming the Sata III/ 6 is available on your board. Ok, I looked into it. The problem is that you do not have full SATA III compatibility. This board was one of the first and Intel didn't have anything yet so GB used a Marvell chip to add functionality. As a ver 1.0 device it can't support the fastest drives since they didn't exist. You just have to put up with your current speed until you upgrade your board.
  5. Can you run Crystal Disk Mark and post the results?
  6. I was trying out my Googlefu when you posted that. I far as I can tell it's an older CWT builders grade psu. OK, but not great. Made for decent performance at the time but no where near what is available now, even at the same price. I wouldn't rely on it. It's a great backup for a system is you need to throw in a psu to test or the current one goes titsup and you need a temporary replacement.
  7. Zen was expected to be fully taped out by 4th qtr 2014 with provisional sales by 2nd qtr 2015. Dec 14 came and went without a peep as Glofo couldn't get their processes dialed in. The new date was 3rd quarterish 2015 and it was much more vague. That was moved to 2nd qtr 2016 and now it's 4th qtr 2016. And none of it has anything to do with AMD but all with their foundry partner. Actually, Glofo and TSMC co built the new foundry. They may be competitors but they also are not willing to shoulder the complete cost of a $6 billion USD fab. On top of all that the process is 16nm finFET, not the Samsung 14nm finFET. Different process and not transferable.
  8. I'm quite sure that there's Zen's in AMD as we speak. Once past tape out there will be small batches made for testing and proofing purposes. I wouldn't be surprised that Keller has been doing the testing and left once he was able to sign off the on the design in silicon. Most people forget that Zen is already 6 months late. They've now moved the release date back twice. GloFo is really struggling. I can see AMD going down as they can't get product through no fault of their own. Sad. And even someone like Samsung can't swoop in and save the day as the processes are too different. TSMC is partnered with Glofo on this so there's no help there either. The only way that AMD could really get moving is to start over with someone who really understands the process, has the fabs to make it work and the expertise to get it done. In other words... Intel.
  9. The big issue is getting Zen made, not designed. His job is done. Adding insult, the fab is having major issues in building it. Keller can't help that. There's no point in him sitting around watching a fab screw things up and not being able to do a damn thing about it.
  10. My 2 cents... why are you using a backplate in the first place? Just get some nuts and rubber washers and screw it into the board. The backplate is to spread the stress of the cooler across the m/bd when it's vertical. In the 1U it will always be horizontal. No stress. See? The answer is to quit dicking around and use your nuts.
  11. What he's not bringing to the table is usage. What will be the average standard size on the average consumer machine in 5 years? 10tb? 20? 50? Ooooor, will it slow down like we're seeing right now to the 1-2tb sizes? A size that the hdd guys will have already passed by and the ssd guys happily playing in at the $30 - 50 price range? With 3D NAND and 4level TLC it won't take long for the price of decent sized drives to plummet.
  12. Add to all these voices... there is a bug in the Skylake chips. It's *slower* than the Haswell when using a discrete gpu. Only by 1-3% and it's going to be fixed but right now the Haswell is faster.
  13. Damn. I used both IE and Chrome. And yeah, Sympatico are assholes but they'd kill all the sites, not just a couple if they were going to be difficult.
  14. Both Reddit and Twitch seem to be down. Is anyone else having these problems? If so, has anyone heard why. Those are two beefy sites and it's got to be more than a server crash.
  15. It's coming. I'm not sure in my lifetime but certainly in the average LTT member's lifetime. Linus has talked about the iHome from Apple. It's certainly a logical progression. Getting enough of a personality to respond intelligently? Maybe.
  16. For reals you can't go wrong with any of the Pixar movies, try Avatar and Coraline. Coraline is probably the closest to Mirror, Mirror even tho it's all cgi. For something a little different I'd try The Guard.
  17. The Silent Wings fan on the Be Quiet! is a great fan. One of the best out there. And the fit and the finish of the whole thing is superb. With your window it would look fantastic. You will have to look out for RAM clearance but you only have 8 gigs so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I take it that the H55 is giving you problems?
  18. I think that that is overstating things a little much, but the VS series is not Corsair's best by any means. And frequently you are having to pay a premium for that Corsair name. Since it isn't even up to Bronze standards I would look at something else, even in Corsair's lineup. If you can, look at EVGA's GS line. Way better quality and it will work better on your build as well.
  19. That's the thing. Selling them for peanuts is key. You don't know the history so making it a bargain As Is sale will do the trick. And it's why you don't use them for your rig. RAIDing or otherwise using the old drives is pointless. You don't know how long they'll last, and being old, they're not worth the hassles. For the few bucks that it costs it's just silly to not buy a new drive.
  20. Sell the one rig with the ssd's. Sell the other two drives for peanuts. Then buy a modern 250gb ssd and use that for boot.
  21. Not broke and I don't see a future where it won't meet my needs. Free doesn't attract me at all.
  22. It's NOT a rebrand. It's made by CWT for Corsair. CWT is Corsair's main manufacturer and they're decent but not remarkable. On top of that the CX builder series is built to a price point i.e. cheap. It's better than all those tier 4 and 5 mystery Chinese psu's but there's also a ton of better psu's out there, some made by Corsair.
  23. The Acer. Just because it comes with an O/S so it will run out of the box. None of them are powerhouses so the graphics performance is going to be lame no matter what card you put in there. Before buying check both ram pricing and availability. That may change your choices.
