  1. Just discovered this build log in Linus' Which CPU should I buy video. Liking your work and looking forward for your next project!
  2. The 6800k cost about $495 here, while the E3-1230v5 cost about $278. I don't know why but the 6800k is a pretty expensive chip here.
  3. Hello, Thank you for the reply. At first I was planning to get a RX480, but it turns out that it cost the same as a GTX1060 here in Taiwan. I was also thinking about a GTX1070, but it cost 50% more than a GTX1060, so I'm in a dilemma right now haha. Hello, Thank you for the reply. The 6800k cost 50% more than the E3-1230 v5, so I don't think I can really afford it haha. I really want it though.... Hello, Thank you for the reply. The Gigabyte motherboard is also very compelling. I think I will compare their features and see which one suits me best.
  4. Hello Everyone, Background So, I am planning to build a new PC to replace my broken Laptop (Asus N46VZ, i7-3630QM, Nvidia GT-650M, Samsung 840 EVO, 12GB DDR3). I've never built a computer of my own before, but I have been interested in PC building and have been following the topic for quite some time now. I don't have a lot of experience in choosing hardware parts, so I decided to ask here. I'm sure that you guys are more experienced than I am, and I hope that you can help me make the right decisions. I will be building the system in the next week or two. Aim I will use the computer as my main rig and use it for the following purposes - Run a couple of Virtual Machine (Virtual Box). - Doing some research about password cracking, hashing and other stuff (for a network security course that i will be taking, purely educational purposes). - Some stuff related to networking (I have already built a pfSense Router box) - Some video editing, image editing, 3D modelling (Blender, GIMP/Photoshop, Sketchup). - Be able to run the PC 24/7, I am considering on performing some calculations and doing some folding during the night. - Play some PC games (I mainly play Dota and I wish that I can play it in the highest quality). - Power Efficient. Budget I am currently living in Taiwan, all of the parts will be purchased at the local store. For building the PC, I have a budget of 1,000USD or about 30,000NTD (New Taiwan Dollar). I have already owned all of the parts except the CPU, motherboard, CPU Cooler, Case, and Memory. So the $1000 budget is to buying those five things. Hardware and Software List (Taiwan Pricing, converted to USD w/ Google) CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v5 (Skylake), $276.35 CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X Turbo, $34.66 Motherboard: MSI C236M Workstation, $123.70 Memory: 1x Kingston ECC RAM 16GB Module - DDR4 2133MHz (KVR21E15D8/16) (*I plan to buy another stick in the future*), $88.72 Storage: Samsung 840 Evo - 256GB (Owned), WD Green 1.5TB (Owned) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X (*For the CUDA cores that i might be able to leverage*), $333.59 Case: Thermaltake Core V21, $63.28 Power Supply: Seasonic G Series 550W (Owned) Operating System: Ubuntu Gnome Monitor: Asus VX239H, IPS Full HD Monitor (Owned) Software that I will run: Virtual Box, GIMP, Photoshop, Blender, Sketchup, Folding, Dota. Total Cost for buying the parts I need $898.37 PC PartPicker link for pricing in USD. EDIT 1 (8/18/2016) - Updated Parts List (Link for the old parts list can be found here). After reading the comments, I decided to swap out the motherboard for a cheaper one from MSI. I swapped out the Asus WS motherboard for the MSI Workstation motherboard, as it saves me some money so that i can afford other parts for the build. - I decided to change the motherboard form factor from ATX to micro ATX, since I want to have a decent PC but not wanting it to consume my entire desk space (I live in a dorm and shared a room with 4 people). And with that I need to buy a new case to fit the micro ATX board, since I don't have one that fits it. My old case (The Aerocool Aero 500) is being used to house my pfSense router, and it also pretty big to fit on my desk. - For the micro ATX case, I chose the Thermaltake Core V21. I like the design and it is not very expensive. - For the Cooler, I chose the Hyper 212X Turbo, It cost about $3 more than a 212 EVO. I plan to use the second fan of the 212X as the Case fan. - For the OS, I decided that I will try out Ubuntu. I want to learn more of UNIX based OS, so I think this is the chance to do it. - Thank you for the 3 people that have give me some suggestions and feedback, I really appreciate it. Thank you for your time, if you have any kind of suggestion or anything, I will be happy to hear it. Cheers, Timothy
  5. Trust me, this phone charged up fast. It sells here for 6990NTD (Taiwan) or 229.59USD, Been using one for a month now, so far so good EDIT: The price i mention above is for the 2GB model, the 4GB model sells for 295.29USD
  6. Yup, we are on the same side for sure. I think you won't regret it, I for sure is pretty happy with it. You should try and get the 4GB RAM version, i think it will be a beast of a $315 phone (#unlocked). For my model (Z3560/2GB/32GB) i got 37046 for the Antutu benchmark, kinda wish i wait a bit and take the 4GB version, but I'm on a tight budget
  7. I think that its a pretty good phone for the price, i own the silver version (the color looks like apple's space gray). You should try one!
  8. Have been using one for almost 3 weeks now, and so far so good, there have been 2 software updates, the first one is too fix the battery usage issues, and Intel graphics driver update, the second one is minor tweaks to the UI. The camera is pretty good, but I'm a bit disapointed with the IPS screen, i just think its not good enough. I got the ZE551ML with 2GB of ram and 32GB of internal storage.
  9. If i win this processor, i think I'm gonna use it for rendering stuff and start building my first PC.... Good Luck Everyone !
  10. My favorite item is the EDG750 PSU. Why : It looks nice with that red striping and the best of all, its silent ~~ Good luck everybody for the giveaway ! and thanks to Antec and LTT for the giveaway, you guys rock ~~
  11. I like the design of the cooler, it looks so sick with that carbon fibre pattern, and i really like the power efficiency of the 900 series cards. Good luck for everyone in the giveaway !
  12. Congrats on the 1 million subs on youtube, LMG crew ! I found LTT on youtube when i was searching for product review which i can't remember anymore what product is it. At first i saw the old intro which Linus came out of the box which i think was pretty "cheap" . After that when i was opening youtube, i always saw a suggestion of his video, so i watch them, then after that i finally sub to his channel, the content is really great with that high quality video, i really like it ! Keep up the good work guys ! And i just hoping that there will be an episode of the ultimate backup tutorial, i knew that there are so many ways to do it and there is a ton of tutorial about it, but I'm just hoping that Linus could make a good and easy to digest tutorial, rather than a fairly complex tutorial ("IMO") i found on the internet. Anyway Good Job LMG, and good luck for the draw everybody : )
  13. Here is my favorite videos for the giveaway : Techquickie's video : - SSD vs Hard Drives as Fast As Possible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQEjGKYXjw8&index=43&list=PLQMVnqe4XbictUtFZK1-gBYvyUzTWJnOk Jay's video : - Case Pressure Explained - Positive vs Neutrals vs Negative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NYHC3DXynM&list=UUkWQ0gDrqOCarmUKmppD7GQ I don't know how to include that youtube player in the post :'( , hope the link is still alive in the moment of the giveaway. Good Luck for Everyone !
