TigerBoy reacted to AbydosOne in PCI Slot to USB. Is there such a thing?
Those will only work if the host has a PCIe x1 slot (they're just using USB 3.0 cables because they're convenient, not because they're signal-compatible).

I'm not sure if you're looking for PCI or PCIe? (x16 would be PCIe, but there's basically no way you'd need x16 for a serial card...)

USB to PCI is possible (long story, but I actually just came across a part with that chip in it), but I don't think anyone has a product for it (that I've seen, anyways). Likely, you'd need custom drivers for each card (not plug-and-play).

For PCIe, you'd be better off specking laptops with Thunderbolt and getting a Thunderbolt expander (native PCIe, no adapting necessary).

Awesome feedback! I think I will go back to the drawing board on this as all plans plans are somewhat not ideal (within the realm of keeping the warranty). I doubt there will be any issues as it came out the factory like this and all users experience this. It just really feels off having switches reach these temps. I may circle back to this after the warranty is gone.

    Thanks Jenko and stay safe!

As for the fans, you will have to experiment, so try everything it seems logical to you. If you experiment remember to use it in the same scenario, like transferring a big file back and forth many times

As for the thermal pads, the more there are in between the less efficient it will be, as it's really difficult to calculate I guess that you can only try and see, we have to remember that not only you would need a thermal pad inside between the heatsink and the chassis but even between the external heatsink and the chassis. and let's not forget that the chip itself as some kind of thermal interface to the black internal heatsink, it would be a complex system to calculate the variables and only if you try it you will see if there are benefits. You would need to make holes (or use some kind of clamp?) for the external heatsink to compress the thermal pad and make good contact
If it's something you want to put effort in, you could create a wood/plastic taller case for it with a hole for a fan on the top and many mini holes as side vents to exhaust the heat.
Or put it in a box where it fit and make the mini holes to emulate side vents and put a fan there

TigerBoy got a reaction from lawful73 in Packet Loss, What do they affect?
Think of packet loss as when an extremely brief power surge/outage happens. Suddenly everything is alright then you notice your lights flicker and your speakers turn off. If it lasts for around a second it can even turn off devices and generally is not a good experience.

If you are simply uploading files to the cloud (service like Google Drive, Photobucket, or Dropbox), most of them are smart enough and have mechanisms that would re-transmit the "packet that was lost" though you would notice it may take longer to send the file by a bit (depending on how much packet loss there is).

If we are dealing with calls/ video calls, you would notice some choppiness, pixelated videos, loss of audio, loss of video, or similar issues. It all depends on the application you are using.

Packet loss can be caused by a bad network card, a poor wireless connection (far distance or interference like microwaves or elevators), modem issues, or even ISP (Internet service provider) issues.

    Hope this helps!

Will look around Mikrotik's catalog to see what can do the job

For the VLANning.... Will definitely do that in the new house where the cables are laid out strategically. In the place where I am going to install this, the room layouts would better benefit having a switch than multiple longer cable runs.

Thanks for all your help Electric Wizard Rabbit that shoots lasers. Stay safe.

They should work fine here. Id probalby go mikrotik if its me, but both will work fine.

Also you can just get one switch if you want and setup vlans, might be better than multiple unmanaged switches.

    Imagine a highway.

Bandwidth is like how many lanes the highway has. The more lanes, the more cars can cross through a point per unit of time.

Latency, like @Enderman said, is how fast the cars get from A to B, and back again.

Any router or network switch/hub is like a set of traffic lights on the highways. Cars have to wait to go through them, but if someone has priority at that traffic light, then they get to skip to the front of the line waiting for the traffic light (Imagine an Ambulance running the red by using their siren, or a motorbike driving between lanes in peak hour traffic).

Latency doesn't matter much if I want to watch a Youtube video. I just click on the video, my little data packet car travels through the internet highway, and arrives at Youtube's servers. It then commands a fleet of trucks full of video data to trundle back to my place. Once the first of those trucks start arriving at my place, I can start watching the video and the rest of the trucks keep streaming in and unpacking their data while I watch the video. Latency is only responsible for the small delay between sending my messenger car out, and the first truck arriving back at my house.

Online gaming, however, is very dependant on latency. Gaming only requires little packets of information to be sent between me and the server, but requires the travel time between us to be short in order for the game to be properly playable. If my sister is causing a traffic jam on my local network because she's ordered a massive fleet of 4K Netflix trucks, and I don't have any sort of prioritising set for my PC on our home router, then my messenger is stuck in that really bad traffic, causing latency issues.

Just made that up on the spot. Let me know if that explanation works well.

the speed of sound... talking when next to somebody happens seemingly instantly, but if somebody claps their hands at the other end of a football field, it seems delayed....it takes time for the information to reach you since it has to travel a physical distance

    I'm pretty sure is filttered.
it would be dumb decision from Phanteks to sell something with a bad design. I did show you the video of linus first, because it's a short video and tell almost everything. the second show everthing.

Reson for look the enthoo pro:
I dont like the NZXT H440 because it does not have a front plate intake meaning you will have bad airflow on the front. also that case is the same as the normal edition but just added the logo of razer, i also dont like razer for my opinion that company is like apple on their computers they sell products overpriced that have bad specs just because is apple. that happends too with razer. when you are buying their products a % of the price of their product, you are paying the trademark, that's why they sell expensive stuff. Also look at my case is more cheaper and better ($99) than the H440 with razer logo ($140). with that 41$ you save (if you choose my option) could be use for yor monitor. Also you gain the benefit of the full tower case. meaning that have more upgrade options  than an average mid tower case. (ej. you could put a bigger radiator in a full tower than a mid tower case).

You're welcome, Your happiness is my hapinness too.

Where's The Thermal paste that i recommended to you?
If is not possible to get the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut i have another recommendation, and is a little bit cheaper but have less performance and is the Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme
but as i say i strongly recommend the Kryonaut over the Extreme.
Also look up this tier list of power supply
It's very wise to follow that tier list if you want a safer power supply
    This list works too.
Hey @TigerBoy try to look first on your local store the tier 1 for a safer PSU unit.

TigerBoy reacted to Antony Leung in First High-End Build: Having a hard time deciding on Case
Hey @TigerBoy This is what i would recommend for more cheaper and EQUAL or better performance.

Why did you change x part?

CPU. i change the CPU for the i5 since you are not a content creator who needs those i7 for video editing. Added Thermal paste for you build. The Thermal kryonaut is the best thermal paste on the market. i use it in my rig and i saw a 20° celcius of deference. i was using the Artic silver 5 Change for the new CPU cooler the H115I. is the same has you had listed but better performance. Change those HDD hard drives. for SSHD drive thats actualy the same capacity you want 4TB and better speeds. with min. of 140MB/s. i belive normal hdd does not have this kind of speed. i let the same manufacturer that you choose Added EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card. i priced for 700$ since its the maximun estimated price. Expect less somthing like 649$. EVGA is one of the best manufacturer of Video card in the Nvidia side. this card have a better cooler and base clock compared to the reference card. Change the PSU for better quality and cheaper. i dont want you to hear a explosion on this kind of rig. i didn't hear anything good from the RM series. also this 650W is still appropriate for a single GTX1080. and have better 80+ certification (the 80+ platinum) meaning that you will have like 90% of efficiency.  Added a bad ass looking monitor. it accomplish your standards and the best par it has the best refresh rate on the market 165Hz also it got G-sync. And finally the case. I choose the famous Enthoo Pro. This case is the best case i ever seen in my life it accomplish what you want. you can see a review of linus here:
    I hope you like it.

PS: If you are looking for a keyboard and mouse too here my recommendation.
Keyboard: The corsair K70 Rapidfire use the new Cherry MX speed for 40% faster pressing than averange mechanical keyboard Mouse: The G502 is the best wired mouse on the maket it have the best sensor for a deadly accurate aiming in FPS. and have fast response times.

Thanks again . For the NZXT H440 I agree, I really don't like it being restrictive on airflow (especially with my room temp). For the Razer ed one... I would like to avoid that but the only one available in black in my area is that version. For the Phanteks Enthoo Pro, I reached out to a community last night and saw it was not filtered but what people did is they just bought a 5$ filter and just modified it which I can do (see image taken from Linus' video). This is an amazing case for a D.I.Y person and I don't want a little thing to be such a deciding factor for me.

Finally for the Thermal Paste, I am still looking what's available in my area, the shop I am reaching out to only sells Arctic Silver 5. I will be checking other shops next month (when 1080s become available) to see what they have.

    Here are the changes:
Case: (CHANGED) To the awesome Phanteks Enthoo Pro
PSU: (CHANGED) To a Corsair AX 760W 80+ Platinum based from the recommended PSU list
Thermal Paste: (ADDED) Arctic Silver 5 (for now)
Fans: (ADDED) +1 120mm for the drive cages

I am still pending the following:
Monitor: I am mostly decided on the Asus PG279Q though due to the additional 350$ mark up here, I am still have some reservations. (But I am still most likely to get it)
GPU: Waiting to see which aftermarket 1080 versions will be available locally
Thermal Paste: Will see if I can grab some Thermal Grizzly if there is one available locally

Here is the now updated Build:

That would be a real waste of money.

First of, there are countless free hosting offers available on the net, some examples are:
    http://www.square7.ch/?lang=en
    https://5gbfree.com/
    https://www.bplaced.net/?lang=en

And countless more. They are all more than enough for what you want to do.

The other (and in my opinion better) solution would be to simply write a script in any scripting language like python or php and use one of the countless online sandboxes to run your code.
    Example: Copy this code
$values = array(//Put all your values here like this"192.168.0.1","192.168.0.2","192.168.0.3",);//Put your desired text here, "variableHere" will be replaced$text = <<<'EOT'config somethingedit 1config somethingelseedit "variableHere"config somethingmorenextendconfig somethingedit 2config somethingelseedit "variableHere"config somethingmorenextendEOT; foreach( $values as $v ){ echo str_replace('variableHere', $v, $text);} Go to one of these pages:
    http://sandbox.onlinephpfunctions.com/
    http://phpfiddle.org/
(Or just google "run php code online"....)

Paste the code there and run it. That way you only need to have the template somewhere on your hdd or on the net and are much more flexible since you can always modify it if you need to.

Well i'd be happy to make that for you but again I have no idea how to make that happen, I dont even know how that other one works lol. But like I said that domain is unused and paid for until about September I think so feel free to message me if you want a different script to run on it.
However it would probably be a good idea to have a domain for everyone to use. It still seems a bit silly to me that you aren't allowed to run scripts like this which would increase your productivity on your local machines.
