Oh the internal cables! I thought you meant like USB, HDMI, etc.
I would always turn off my PSU in those cases, but doing it once and your PC still works means it's fine.

why not turn PC off, and remove the power cable, then push and hold the Power button to drain the power from the motherboard?
you should be fine if the PC is off.

Is this plastic clip hooked under the other plastic thing on the connector?
If so, you're good. If not, push down a bit further, with equal force on all sides of the connector.

Ive done that for years with no issues.
It is short, tight, hard 90-180* bends and kinks that cause issues.
That is a nice soft arc so looks fine
