Folding Community Board
jctappel67 replied to GOTSpectrum's topic in Folding@home, Boinc, and Coin Mining
All I’m saying, is the system is bullshit. The government’s always had it out for me. Especially those bastards at the DOT. -

That moment when EOC screws up the math earlier, so what you thought would be 700K points ends up being less than 300k... -

@cbigfoot, I might still beat you into the top 300. Bout to drop a 600-800k point deuce at 9 pm. Sometimes I think FAH might have my back... -

Don't be so sure about 6 pm. Maybe 9 pm will be the one. It's unfortunate that I won't crack the top 300 first, but c'est la vie -
Heatsink on chipset is blocking gpu slot ???????
jctappel67 replied to empleat's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
That mobo has a x16 slot. You might be trying the wrong slot. -

Gotta agree with this one. When I was only running a 2060, I'd clear about 1mill PPD -
Best to go straight into studs. The last thing you want is for the monitors to fall and take a chunk out of the wall with them. Move your desk if you want it to be centered.

@cbigfoot, the new laptop is up and folding at about 600k ppd, putting my total ppd up to 2.4 million. Maybe I'll hold you off until I reach the top 300 now. -
Acetone works, or just nail polish remover if you can't find the pure stuff.

At this point, I'm just gunning for 100 million and top 300 on the team. With my current hardware, that would make me very happy. -
Unless it's a corsair controller, then no. Cable management will be fun, but that RGB goodness will be worth it. You might also look into grabbing a Commander Pro RGB Hub to help with cable managing it...

Just grabbed a new gaming laptop for gaming during work travel. It doesn't have a Tenkey, but I really like having one. What are some good numeric keypads for laptops? Looking in the $50 or less budget area.

No complaints, just answering a question.

I completely understand, and you are not alone. The only AMD cards that seem to never have issues with WUs are navi cards. Everything older is kind of unstable. Lots of people had trouble during the folding event too.

The sweet DDR4 spot for this combo?
jctappel67 replied to The Gaige's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I've seen that for a 9700K, the point of diminishing returns is 3000 Mhz -
Honestly, FAH is just kind of unstable on AMD cards. Couldn't tell ya why. Just keep going, you'll get through it eventually.
-
Whats the WU number, I recall that 14541 and 14543 don't play well with AMD GPUs.

So, with the CyberPower build, the performance specs are slightly better, but with the NZXT build, the motherboard is from a reputable brand, the PSU is from a reputable brand (extremely important), the RAM brand and speed are known, and youy get a better warranty. If I was going to buy a pre-built, I would go with NZXT.

Should I buy a 2070 super now or wait for Nvidia 3000
jctappel67 replied to Can I run from CRYSIS's topic in Graphics Cards
Be sure to either quote me or tag like this: @jctappel67 so I can see your reply. The RX580 is still a respectable card, and should tide you over until RTX 3000 comes out (hopefully) later this year. Until then, start saving up to get the best card you can afford. That is my suggestion. -

What combo? There's no link or anything... -
I have neither of those DNSs, and I whitelisted the forum, but I do not see any ads, and have not even after I whitelisted.

Should I buy a 2070 super now or wait for Nvidia 3000
jctappel67 replied to Can I run from CRYSIS's topic in Graphics Cards
Depends on one question: Are you willing to wait? Answer to other question: No, Crysis runs you. -
First things first, the 8700K is a toastyboi, and Folding is a very difficult workload. Airflow could be a problem if your system doesn't have enough fans, and that CPU cooler is a little too skimpy for a CPU that hot. For now, I would recommend not folding on it, at least until you can get a better cooling solution for it. Refer to this thread: Not saying to drop tons of cash on it, just something better, or don't fold on it.

Why not just use a 120mm fan and mark it through the holes?
-
I use Corsair LL120 fans in my rig. I love them, but wiring can be a bit of a pain since Corsair opted for proprietary headers leading to the RGB controller...
