  1. I have sent an email to the Memorial Sloan Kettering, who own the web address, and hopefully their IT department will reply and get a finger out. Thats all I think I can do. Take care
  2. Hi Scijoe, when it first happened, I pinged the ip with no return, This could mean any number of things. Sever down etc etc. Because of the numbers involved I'm pretty sure someone will have flagged that no WU's were returned during a period and recheck for missing ones. I don't know enough about Folding as I'm just a newbie. I hope there are others out there who do pick up on this thread, and decide to illuminate.
  3. There doesn't seem to be anything consistent, Shall wait and see. If I get another I may shut down the folding for a couple of days and see what happens.
  4. Trevor are you sure about that? I've had 1 waiting 2 days and I've got another one that's finished unsent. And the points decrease by the second. Is it a problem or what?
  5. Yes, but there's always the man in the middle, and I'm never quite sure he/they have my best interests at heart. The NHS would bleed any money and yet I'd rather pay for a Nurses shopping. This way the best help is in research that benefits everyone. The morality is always the sticky question. I appreciate your comments.
  6. Hi Martin I'm sure your right - I almost bought a pile of stuff, then wondered will it benefit me, Perhaps just GPU first then if all else fails a reasonable stating point.
  7. Ah forgot!!!!!!! I'm trying to fold (Fold@Home) but finding the GPU is heating up considerably
  8. Hi Boggy77 specs Intel Core i5-2500K,GPU: Nvidia GT 1030, Boot SSD: Samsung 860 500GB,Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB,Mem 8GB: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 C9 4x2GB,MBD: Asus P8P67 LE,Power 500w EVGA B1 Vid= Blackhawk PL2530H The box is a Fractal Desire S ATX Mild entertainment = Vids, - 3D printing Python scripting, Some rendering/slicing but not time critical. 4 - 5 hrs use per day. Lots of reading.
  9. Dear All, Help is needed, but with a slight caveat. Please no 'Builds' I don't play games so my system is purely research and mild entertainment. I have an ageing system and would like to test the viability of upgrading my GPU from the rather limited NVidia GeForce GT 1030 2gig of GDDR5 Would/Should I get a Sapphire RX570/580 8Gig. Will it give a real boost or would it be toast, and have to Build a 1600AF/Msi Mobo and the RX570 as a bare minimum to fold like a demon? I am aware there are many GPU upgrades worthy of mentioning - but that is the ball park cost I'm prepared to invest. Thanks for taking the time to read if not comment.
  10. Take time - they will take your money regardless, make sure it's what you need. Have a look through YT and check if your getting every last erg out of your MAC. Check out LTT's guides, they are a treasure trove. You're going to make mistakes - make sure it's on something that you don't mind paying for twice. You wouldn't dream of taking apart an engine in a car without expert tuition, if you make a mistake- it's a learning process. Linus makes it look OK to mess up, but I'm sure all his kit is tax deductible.
  11. Hope you don't mind me butting in - but perhaps you should consider your needs. Do you need to be mobile? - spend a lot of time at different locations ?- Where are you going to stash your kit when your on Hols or Gap. What about warranty and service - Tech experience in assembly? There are plenty of laptops boasting good specs and features which will allow you to work and play on the hoof. Nice to have a big rig in the corner, but I've seen kids do more a Pi and a good screen. Poll for lots advice, make a list and work through the pro's and con's, Then get the best deal you can. GL
  12. I'm a mature newcomer, whose under lockdown (self isolation with his significant other). Decided to spend a few hours a day relearning  (Hope it's not Alzheimers) what I took for granted, and perhaps enjoy the journey.

Yes - I have thought of spending money - but really - it does what I want - and now joined the Folding@home putting my wasteful dream time to better use.
