dbrady9 got a reaction from Tech_Dreamer in My First Ever PC Build
I decided to document my first pc build ever, after getting it fully assembled I went to turn it on and got absolutely nothing, no led's no fans spinnings. So I had to go into troubleshooting mode and all together probably spent 20 hours on building/troubleshooting/watching videos/and posting on forums. I couldn't figure it out so I had my dad come over, who's a master electrician to take a took at it and he spotted the problem in 2 seconds. I had only 14 pins of my 24 pin connector plugged in on my power supply side, while the 10 pin connector was just hanging there...won't make that mistake again. All together I spent just over $1400 before tax. I'm really happy with how it turned out and even though it was a pain in the ass, learning how to troubleshoot will be valuable in the future. Thanks to the people on the troubleshooting thread that helped me out.

I also made a video out of it:

Really good so far. I've gotten so used to my 2012 MacBook Air that this PC feels like lightning. I'm mostly going to play shooters and br's. On fortnite with low settings I get about 450-500fps. and on epic settings its still around 180-200fps with no overclocking

No detriment, you just have much more bandwidth available than you'll use.  As GPU's have done for years, no big deal.

The slot will downgrade to PCIe 3.0. PCIe is both forwards and backwards compatible in that way.

Yup.  And I will note that just because the monitor didn't make it to NVIDIA's list does not make it a bad FreeSync monitor.  NVIDIA doesn't take the time to test all the good ones in the market, so as long as it's not the world's-crummiest monitor or FreeSync range, it will likely work just fine despite not making the "cool" list.

My monitor fits that description.  Monitors very similar to it in features and name of model-series have made the list, but it never did:  XF270HU  (27" FreeSync, IPS, 144Hz, 2560x1440p).  Other Acers with FreeSync have, even other XF-series monitors, but I use FreeSync from my GTX 1070 Ti and it works flawlessly.  So yeah.

That's not how the question works.  The questions that matter are: "Is the monitor FreeSync, and was it listed as G-Sync Compatible by NVIDIA"

If the monitor is FreeSync than Nvidia lets you turn it on using a setting called "G-Sync Compatible".  If the monitor made NVIDIA's hand-picked list of monitors they approve of and "tested" than the FreeSync will be enabled automatically.

Any newer GPU from NVIDIA supports the "G-Sync Compatible" feature.  And obviously any G-Sync monitor should just work.  Period.
