They just need to add two words to their marketing wank.
    "Hydro-dip inspired print"
And all would be well, fairly small simple adjustment and it satisfies everyone. It clarifies that it's a print of a hydro-dip.
A friend of mine got a Dbrand case for his phone that was marketed and shown to be a 3D effect of some kind with some prismatic look to it. IRL it was a flat sticker with some shiny bits, one of the obsidian ones. He was mildly upset about it. I would have been too.

Here, buy this gold gilded case.  Just ignore the fact that it's actually just a print and contains no real gold.  [Ginger ale has gotten sued in the paste when allegations were made that it wasn't made from real ginger]

    It is false advertising.

For myself, I would be more inclined to buy a case that was hydro-dipped.  The reason, I have a tendency to pick at corners when I fidget and also the way I put phones into my pockets it tends to peel.  Yes hydro-dipping can get scratches, but I prefer scratches over peeling of skins.  Anyways, something that has been hydrodipped would also have a coating protecting the paint layer making it resistant to scratches.

It's not semantics as you put it, it's about the fact that it is not what it claims to be.  It's literally a statement of claim "We drowned the Grip Case so you don't have to".

Literally everyone here wouldn't be complaining if they actually hydro-dipped or if they called it a style instead of implying they are hydro-dipping.

Again with the semantic wordplay deflections.

Hydrodip is e specific term for a specific process, the only way it would be obvious TO EVERYONE it wasnt made using that process given the lack of information on their site is if its something that is not applicable in this situation, which it is considering there are companies out there actually offering hydrodipped cases, not just prints.

All they have to do is call it hydrodip style print or pick any other term or phrase to name their line of products that doesnt have a specific meaning and imply something that wasnt actually done.

You are defending dbrands intentional or accidental deceptive marketing, while those who are against it are asking for clarification and transparency.
So im not sure you are dying on the correct hill there, but if thats your thing.

Go ahead, tell me next how you are not defending it, you are saying its just marketing, for the record.

The actual process creates a specific and unique pattern and texture, while the print is just that a print, its the difference between a painting and a poster.

You literally disregard the concern and tell the OP to read more carefully; and essentially boiled it down to him understanding that "hydrodip" name and advertising with lines like dipping cases in water somehow doesn't mean it's hydrodipped.

You are in effect trivializing everything the OP is saying by saying it's a non-issue and deflecting the blame onto him by saying he should be reading better.

Not a witch hunt; you are making asinine or incorrect statements and pretending like what you said isn't what should be implied and I'm simply calling you out on that

    Then you are being ignorant.

Product is called HYDODIP, and their wording talks about a process an user would do to hydro-dip their phone case.

Lets see, are you seriously still trying to be justify a LIE because someone should be able to tell a product called hydrodip with the phrasing essentially saying the case in so you don't have to.

It's like what @zaprqn's argument was, if you are okay with it being called hydrodip then it's akin to calling a metal bar "24k Gold" and making it from bronze then claiming people should know it's not actually gold.

Since you told the OP read more, then show where it was marked that it wasn't a product of hydrodipping.  Notice if you go to hydrodip.com for example the products there are all hydrodipped.

Clearly makes it clear it's vinyl tho. Leather says cows died for it, pretty clear it's real leather. So based on those two examples if I bought one that said hydro-dip would I be entirely out of line expecting it to be actually a piece of hydro-dip art on vinyl topped with a clear layer possibly TPU to protect it? It doesn't seem like an illogical leap to me. If it said it was a print of hydro-dip art then I'd expect a print. I don't have any skin in the game except I occasionally enjoy being a contrarian.

When it gets to the point that you were victim blaming and being asinine and pedantic.

You have by your actions have shown you do accept the level of wording dbrand has used; and you are willing to effectively gaslight the OP by making statements that he's effectively wrong.

Trying to pass it off as just "marketing" and acting like because it's "marketing" somehow trivializes that it's blatantly a lie (again this assume no hydrodipping took place).  The fact is, if a lawyer got ahold of this and wished to proceed they would likely win a case under false advertisement.

Here though, I'll quote you on the things that very much indicate you accept it.

What gets me is that you make a statement like this, blaming the OP essentially...when the product page DOESN'T specify it hasn't hydro-dipped it.  And no hydrodip vs hydro-dipped IS NOT a big difference. [Especially when they have included phrases referring to processes involved in hydrodipping]

You dismissed people having issues with it by calling it a non issue, how is that not accepting it?

I'm falling on that sword because thats how erosion of everything happens, you know 10-20 years ago we used to own stuff, now its license that can be revoked on a whim and services we have to subscribe to every month for no other reason but to pay more money, we used be able to repair stuff now "we are assaulting people in parking lots" if we do "unsanctioned" repairs, one day something you care about will be taken away and you will be met by the same "Who the F cares". Just because we dont have functioning governments and regulators doesn't mean a lot of things are how they should be. Tell me im wrong.

Personally I would say it's a similar level if they called their product "carbon fiber" without indication that it wasn't a true carbon fiber.  Like if they said, "carbon fiber likeness", or "carbon fiber style" it would be acceptable.

What also is terrible though is they say "We drowned the Grip Case so you don't have to"

Imagine if they said "We deal with resin so you don't have to" along with the name "carbon fiber"...that is what this is akin to.

Doesn't matter, it doesn't excuse lying about a product in the way they did.  The idea behind false advertising is that if you don't know the brand and are just given the information about the product would you be able to properly access what you are getting.  The answer is no

Now this is all predicated on the fact that the product isn't hydro dipped [which isn't entirely 100% confirmed whether it is or isn't, but at least the talk in this thread so far is assuming it's not]

So if i sell you a Golden Ring, and even throw a 24K at the end implying something with it, but then you get the ring and it turns out its not golden its just steel painted golden and i then defend it by "I never said it was made of gold", would i be using jargon or would it be deception? And then when you ask "What about the 24K, doesn't that mean 24 Karats?" and i go "No, thats just the model number", would that still be a non issue?

While yes, it is in part on the consumer to do their due diligence but when something is made intentionally misleading then it crosses the line by what acceptable marketing should be, if not legally, then at the very least morally.

And whenever people start defending such practices with "It didn't specifically say or didn't say something", while heavily implying it you are defending negligence at best or malice at worst, this ignorance and apathy from a lot of the consumers is what allows for such deceptive practices to thrive. An honest person would strive to provide the most detailed and relevant information possible, a dishonest one would obfuscate it and even make claims that are untrue so that their products look more appealing.

When did lying became "edgy marketing" as some other members here tried to make a case for?

If I'm not mistaken, actual tie-dying only applies to cloth, so the expectation when buying a tie-dye phone case is it's just a pattern.  On the other hand, hydro-dipping is something that applies to hard objects like a phone case.

QwertyChouskie reacted to BakaDani in Logitech - Worst customer support
I recently had issues with my Logitech mouse and reached out to support to fix it. Basically, my mouse would randomly disconnect and I would have to unplug and replug the dongle to get it working again. For context, the mouse in question was the G Pro X Superlight 2.

While Logitech uses a chat bot on both their text chat and their phone tree system, you can eventually get in touch with a real person through email. It appears to have a trigger word if you say something along the lines of "I want to talk to a real person." This chat bot in my experience was very annoying because it was assuming I was having a different issue and was recommending me to follow steps that I know won't work because it's not related to my issue. Later, after saying "I want to talk to a real person" the bot then requested me to answer questions like Name, Email, etc, for it to be forwarded to the CSR. The problem was the the bot was in two different conversations and every response was doubled. Their bot is very flawed and needs to be looked into. It was not a good customer experience.

When I was finally emailing a real person, within like 2 or 3 emails I had a new mouse shipped to me. They didn't even ask for the old one back (but they told me to keep the old one just in case they ask for it back).

tl;dr, Logitech's customer support is actually pretty good in my experience, except that stupid AI chat bot that you have to get through before talking to a real person.

Seems a lot of folks are misunderstanding. I’m not complaining about the quality of the case or skin. I declined the return / refund because I like the case.

My issue is with the deceptive marketing. They are not hydro dipped. And saying they’re “drowned so you don’t have to” goes even further to imply they come with the design pre applied. A major selling point for those of us who suck at putting on skins.

Hydro dipping is a well known process of applying paint to a surface. Calling anything hydro dipped, that isn’t, is deceptive af.

While it would be nice for the to specifically say that the hydrodipping is just a skin, they do have instructions on product pages for how to put the skin on a Grip Case.
You do have to go to the grip case for your specific phone, and not go through the Limited Edition>Hydrodip menu at the top of the page.
iPhone 15 Pro Max Cases » MagSafe Grip » dbrand
The only actual hint is the ability to say that you don't need a case on the Hydrodip Limited Edition page.
    Shop » Cases » dbrand

QwertyChouskie reacted to Other James in Weekly Sponsor Concerns Update - May 3, 2024
Hey everyone, we’re back with a few things we wanted to follow up on this week.

    Razer and Our Current Sponsors

We saw a couple posts this week regarding sponsors we don’t currently work with. This was something we knew would come up when we updated the posting guidelines. We spent a bit of time this week going over all the brands we work with to update the list, as well as trying to find a way to keep it up to date.

One of the brands that did come up was Razer, a brand we haven’t worked with in a sponsorship capacity for some time. A forum member was having issues with Razer not honoring a warranty despite OP meeting the requested demands. Razer is a brand we are open to working with and do still have contact with. So we reached out to OP to get the chat history they had with Razer, and once Razer replies to our team we’ll see if they can assist with the warranty process.

    VPNs

Recently, on The WAN Show, Linus and Luke discussed working with VPNs in a sponsorship capacity again. The segment can be found HERE.

In short, the original concerns around why we stopped in the first place were primarily around misleading talking points. We are open to working with VPNs again, provided that our team’s talking points are accurate to what the VPN does. A lot of our team uses a VPN, and we’re aware a large portion of our audience does as well. Even when we stopped working with PIA, Linus and Luke still used it. When we choose not to work with a sponsor, it is because of customer support issues or something not working as advertised. PIA did not fall under these categories.

I’d recommend watching the WAN Show segment for more context. But for those who didn’t watch the show, we figured it would also be worth parroting here.

    dbrand

There was a concern about the marketing behind the hydro-dip skins that dbrand offers for their phone cases not actually being hydro-dipped phone cases. At this point in time, we’ve shared the concern with dbrand.

Thanks again, everyone. We’ll be back with that list of our current sponsors soon. Until then, have a great weekend.

Hey @Voigt. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Right now we aren't working with Razer in a sponsored capacity. We've been meaning to update the list of current sponsors. Admittedly that's a pretty big task so we're still figuring out the best way to go about it.

However, we do still have a couple of contacts from the Razer team. Feel free to shoot me a DM and I'll see if there's someone that may be able to assist/expedite here.

    Name of Brand:
Razer (since I am not on floatplane I am not 100% sure if they are currently a sponsor)

Description of your issue: (copy of my support initial request)
My Razer Viper v2 Pro some time ago only worked wired and not wireless anymore.
Today (6th of April 2024) I tried updating the firmware with the hope this would fix the problem, but it didn't.
I could update the firmware of my mouse itself but the 2.4 Dongle itself won't get detected by any Firmware Update tool and also Windows won't play a device detected sound when plugging in the dongle. I tried plugging it into various USB 3 and USB 2 ports aswell as into the Hyperspeed USB-C to USB-A Adapter.
On a sidenote I also have a problem that the scrollwheel is working erratically. Pressing the scroll button is no problem, but turning the wheel down sometimes hitches and scrolls up a bit.

Have you tried solving your issue through the brand's customer support channel? If so, what was the result?
After sending emails back and forth for a week (because of timezones, I am in Germany, Razer support seems USA based), partially with information I already send in my original request this was the answer:

"It's important for us to clarify our warranty policy, which states that warranties are typically non-transferable. This means that the original buyer of the product is usually the one who should initiate any warranty claims or replacements. This helps us maintain accurate records and ensures that the warranty process runs smoothly.    For us to process the warranty claim, the original owner who purchased the product must contact us if possible. He can then provide your shipping address for us to directly send the replacement device instead of the original owner."   Which is annoying but fine. I contacted the original buyer on ebay and thankfully he was very helpful, contacted razer and provided original buying recipe. He bought from razer directly. But Razer still denies the claim, just saying only the original owner has a warranty on their product. They are ignoring that the original owner is now contacting them.
What would an ideal resolution of your issue look like?
Razer got 150€ for that product originally and it got defective in under 2 years, in their 2 years warranty window, they really should replace/repair it.
That only the original owner can get a warranty is annoying (and probably goes against Linus's mindset of trying to buy used to minimize e-waste) is fine, since it is Razers own warranty police, they can decide that. But if they say it is enough if the original owner contacts them and just provides my shipping adress, but then still deny the claim after the owner gracefully helps me, is quite shitty and is wasting time.
