  1. I have three SSD's in my rig (granted, old SATA 3 drives) and I honestly still don't consider them the "life-changers" that everybody else always claims. I mean, its not like I become physically ill whenever I use a PC with just a HDD in it...
  2. I know this is an old thread but here's my opinion despite the fact that you probably already pulled the trigger by now. I too have an OC'd 4930K (4.6 GHz) with 16 GB of DDR3 2133 MHz and I have still to this day failed to find a reason to upgrade my platform/CPU. My 4930K simply still does everything I need it to do and more, and I have suffered no significant performance issues that would cause me to want to spend the money to upgrade to a new platform. Now let me say that I am still currently rocking a pair of OG Titans (pretty similar to your original 780Ti's but free of memory limitations) and I'm using a couple of 27" Korean IPS 1440p monitors so I realize that CPU bottlenecking should not be an issue in the first place given my personal setup, but I really feel that a 1080 would not massively cause CPU bottlenecks on this 4930K either given its robust 4.6 GHz OC (though I could totally be wrong about that, in my own testing I have confirmed that these SLI Titans at my OC of 1300 MHz are still mostly faster than a single 1080 in most all of the situations where I'm not suffering from SLI-scaling issues or lack of support). In fact I feel that the move up from 2133 MHz DDR3 to 3000+MHz DDR4 would probably net more significant gains than simply the switch from 4930K to 8700K. All that said, there is no question that a similarly clocked 8700K is definitely much more powerful than a 4930K which is obvious. My point is that I've always felt that you should never feel a need to upgrade a system until there is an important task (be it gaming, editing, etc) in which your current system simply doesn't provide satisfactory performance. As I said, that is still not the case with my setup, so I have not been compelled to consider an upgrade yet, even though I understand that the newest hardware is certainly faster.
  3. I'd say that Fusion did a great job protecting you in that wreck! Glad you're doing OK. I personally would never buy the Pixel as it is just a crappy looking phone with far fewer features than an equivalent Samsung. Besides, I don't really care about updates in the first place. I will say, however, that if I had it to do over again I might have gotten the iPhone X over my Note 8 since they were basically the same price on sale when I got it for Black Friday. I love the features and customization potential on Android phones (particularly Samsungs), but Apple products just plain work better. Lately I've been having weird connectivity issues with my Note 8 while on 4G (specifically not being able to load the Sirius refresh page and having the app tell me I have no connection to the Sirius servers despite full bars) yet when I then try on my iPad Pro with 4G it works right away. Just really gotten fed up with minor little annoyances like this lately and will try my very first iPhone ever when I decide to upgrade next.
  4. With the way OLED functions, a fully black screenshot should appear as perfectly black as is possible because the entire screen will basically be emitting no light at all. Can't imagine a way that a display could possibly ever be any blacker than being turned off? Its not like you can emit negative light.
  5. Sounds like its time to take advantage of your warranty (or insurance if you have it). Definitely seems broken for whatever reason.
  6. Easy answer is the new 2018 base iPad which is a little more money than you want to spend (around $320) but is vastly superior to any other tablet you can get for anything like that kind of money. Seriously, the iPad is so much better than any Android tablet its not even funny. And I say that as a hardcore Android fan (with phones anyway). Just my opinion though, not trying to pass it off as fact or anything...
  7. I don't have an S9/S9+ so I can't directly comment on its particular screen from experience, but I do have a Note 8, Note 7, S7E, and a Note 5 and none of them exhibit this behavior that you are talking about. In fact, the only display I have seen that is (very slightly) better looking to me personally is that of the iPhone X. In fact, I directly compared the X to the Note 8 for weeks at various stores with different examples, agonizing over them for every little detail to even come to that conclusion, and at the end of the day the Note 8 was still easily better looking than any other phone I saw. Given that the S9+ has virtually the same display as the Note 8, I am curious as to what is going on with yours? In fact I actually have a hard time understanding how an AMOLED display can even show black crush due to the way it works? I mean, with AMOLED a pure black is just the pixels being turned completely off. Therefore, anything lighter than pure black should have the pixels emitting at least a very small amount of light and thus not absolute black, right?
  8. You don't have to update to a new version of the entire OS to get security updates is my point. And yeah, I understand malware exists for all platforms (even Apple) but I still haven't had any issues personally.
  9. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think just because Google offers a new version of Android that they immediately stop providing critical security updates for previous versions. And for me personally, I have NEVER had a phone hacked or infected with malware in the entire 8 years that I have been using smart phones. So yeah...
  10. How did you manage to get 2.5 days of battery life on a smart phone??? Did you actually turn it on during that time lol??? All of my Samsung phones (Note 5, 7, 8 and GS7E) have all tended to last a full day of normal usage, but they've all always needed to be charged overnight...
  11. I sort of agree with you there. I just recently got the Oreo update for my Note 8 and I hate it! It doesn't perform any worse or anything like that, but little features like the Always On Display have far fewer and worse options than they did on Nougat. I really just fail to understand the hype for OS updates, even on Apple products. I got iOS 11 installed on my Gen 1 iPad Air and it completely wrecked the tablet's performance. Just stick with what it came with and you will be fine...
  12. Biggest idling battery drains I've found on my Note 8 are Wifi and Bluetooth which I both keep off unless needed. Also make sure you are not on High Performance mode; instead choose "Optimized". Still seems like something is off with that idle battery usage. Is it a brand new phone?
  13. Yeah agreed. Which one is "better" between Android and iOS really just comes down to personal preference which is why its always so idiotic to see flame wars between the two camps trying to prove one is so clearly superior to the other. Android is superior to iOS for ME but that doesn't mean that I don't wish some of Apple's advantages were available on Android (especially like having a harmonious ecosystem of ancillary products that were all designed to work perfectly with each other). It would be pretty sick to have a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Airbuds, Apple Watch, AppleTV, Macbook, and HomePod all perfectly synced up with each other. Unfortunately I haven't won the lottery yet so...
  14. They sound like ass? Certainly I don't expect that they sound anywhere near as good as the very best acoustic headphones you can buy, but I sincerely doubt they sound like "ass". I mean, I have the AKG buds that were bundled with my Note 8 and they sound really good to me even though I'm sure they can't hold a candle to proper audiophile headphones, but I don't need perfection from a set of ear buds. They just need to not make my ears bleed and I'll be fine. Sorry, I'm obviously projecting my own personal and subjective requirements on you and I obviously have no idea for what purpose you are intending to use your headphones, but my original point still stands. Why did you buy an iPhone in the first place if wired headphone compatibility was of such major concern?
  15. If you went to the trouble of getting an iPhone X why not just use it as intended and get some Airpods? I mean, I don't personally like the elimination of the headphone jack (Samsung rules!!), but you know what you're getting with an iPhone so might as well just use it like an iPhone, right? As far as I have heard, the Airpods do actually work very well with the iPhone (certainly much better than any BT headphones do with Android).
