  1. Also yes I know the difference between Megabyte and Megabit. All network speeds above are in megabits and no I'm not confusing speeds displayed in Megabits and Megabytes as being the same thing.
  2. Hey everyone, I could really use the communities help with this one. I am a professional video editor who deals with a lot of data transfers online. For the most part that happens with domains such as Youtube, Vimeo, Google Drive and Frame IO. My computer is a M1 MacBook Air with 8 gigs of RAM and 512gig SSD (later this year I'm planning to upgrade to a MacBook Pro M1 Max with 64gb of RAM but this is what I'm using right now). I have a 1gigabyte down and 500mb fiber internet connection and use a ISP provided Huawei hg8145v5 Modem/router/AP combo. I also have my Mac configured to use Cloudflare DNS. Currently, when using a direct Ethernet connection (with the official Belkin Ethernet adapter (https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HJKF2ZM/A/belkin-usb-c-to-gigabit-ethernet-adapter) to the modem and right after restarting my computer, I get 939 down and 520 up using the app version of Speedtest connected to my local ISP server (https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/d/406192609). And hey, I'm not complaining about those numbers, that's pretty great. Problem is with real world usage. Usually when uploading and downloading from Google Drive for example, I'm rarely able to get those kinds of numbers and if there's one company who I should be able to get my full speed from, its Google. Now, I've already ordered a Ubiquity U6-LR access point (as well as the POE adapter) so I know my wifi is going to get an improvement but I'm still afraid the hardware on the Huawei modem is limiting my internet speeds and is costing me time and money. That's why I'm considering also buying a Ubiquity UDM Pro to act as a router and leave the modem acting as only a modem. Thing is that it ain't exactly cheap and would take a big chunk out of my savings and budget. If it's really worth it I'll bite the bullet but if it's not going to make that much of a difference, then it'll be a purchase for a later date. Any tips, suggestions and recommendations would be highly appreciated. Also, would you guys use Cat 5e, 6 or 7 ethernet cables to hook the modem to the Ubiquity Access Point?
  3. Historically, when a new position opened up, Linus would include the information to apply for the job in the video description and that was it. I wasn’t aware there was a communication channel available for moments other than those. So I thought this was a good way of getting Linus attention as well as getting a feel for community excitement for the idea. And also, it would be beyond amazing to be hired as an LTT employee but, I’m fine with just being treated as a private contractor. Doing so is something that would make things more flexible for LTT to hire me as they wish. Regardless though, it wasn’t my intention or wish to break any rules in the forum. If my post goes against the forum rules, I’ll delete it immediately. Just say the word and it’s gone.
  4. This is both a post aimed at the LTT community in general and also to Linus and the rest of LMG. @LinusTech @Slick I am a video editor who specializes (among other things) in converting SDR to HDR content. The process is known as inverse tone mapping or also, up-mapping. Editors who have an HDR workflow is pretty rare due to the additional work involved and finding an editor who’s competent at up-mapping is exponentially more rare. The work LMG does is nothing short of amazing and I’ve been a fan since the NCIX days. I would love to convert every video LMG has ever produced to HDR; LTT videos, WAN show episodes, Short Circuit videos, Tech Linked videos etc. I’ll work for whatever Linus feels is fair, if he thinks 1 cent per video is what it’s worth, then I’ll be happy and satisfied with that. What about you guys? Would the LTT community appreciate having all the videos in HDR? I hope this post can reach Linus and he at least give it some consideration. I’m more than willing to do a couple videos for free as well as a show of my skills and the difference in video quality. Thanks everyone
  5. I may have exaggerated a little bit with the use of the word "obsession" but lately Linus seems to be very infatuated with using projectors both for Linus Media Group as well as for his personal use. Can someone explain to me the big appeal and if there's something I'm just not seeing here. What I mean is that currently the best "normal people" TV is the LG OLED G1 which comes at a pretty nice 77 inch size so it's not exactly small either. If you have just rivers of cash lying around, then you can even get the LG OLED Z1 that comes in 88 inches, which is even more huge than 77 inches as well as also going from 4k to 8k. Current OLED technology makes for an infinitely better, vivid, more fun and altogether superior viewing experience by far than a projector does. So this comes back to my question, am I missing something? If yes, then what?
  6. I paid around 3300 for the 3080. And yeah, that's actually a really good idea I hadn't thought about.
  7. This comment makes me glad I got the CX 750 instead of the CV 650, I can't afford to replace it for a 850w one right now but I hope the current one will hold up.
  8. I'm asking now because I want to know how good a decision I did or didn't make. How can you be sure that prices will be better next year? No one knows for sure if it'll get better or worse, chip shortages could still last a pretty long time. So yeah, I may be overpaying now but prices could be even worse next year, I didn't want to take that chance. Regarding RAM, you're right. I think I should've maybe gone with a 32gb kit instead with better speeds. For the longest time, I've heard for the last 3 generations of Intel CPU's that the difference was really small between generations so I thought saving money on an older generation for a very small performance difference would be worth it. It's a Hexa-core with a pretty good speed. I had to deal with a fourth generation quad core on an old HP desktop I used to have so this should be a pretty nice upgrade. I know 500gb ain't that much but I rather 500gb NVME M.2 SSD than 1tb of SATA SSD. I also have a laptop with 512gb of storage, unlimited Google Drive account and a pretty decent internet connection so I should be fine storage wise, it's not ideal but should be manageable for the time being. Regarding the AIO, you mean their overpriced or just aren't very good in general?
  9. You mean the list itself or the components on the list? I'm an American currently living in Brazil. The total cost of the build with the graphics card included is around 4500 US Dollars.
  10. So, I've been wanting a badass gaming PC for at least 12 years and having something like that has been a long standing dream of mine. Life happened multiple times over that time and unfortunately I had other priorities before building a gaming PC. But now I'm finally achieving it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it as extreme as I'd like to but it's damn good enough for the time being and I'll improve it more over time. It's already put together and the last thing that's missing is for the graphics card to arrive in the mail for me to install it. Bellow is the PC Part Picker link, if you guys could take a look and give me your thoughts, I'd be grateful. Thanks guys https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WLBYGq
  11. Hey guys, I could really use some help finding a wireless access point that isn't complete overkill (like the Asus AC3100) but that could handle a NAS plugged in to it as a network device, 4k streaming, multiple devices and very high speed internet (around 100 mbps or even 300 mbps internet, haven't decided yet which speeds I'm going to get for the apartment I'm moving into).
  12. I don't understand very well what you're saying. What you just said would end up being more expensive as an XPS 15 is substantially pricier than a 200 dollar Chromebook and you only listed two desktop components CPU (you used a similar AMD one) and GPU (you said 1080 ti which is the one that's already in the build). I don't NEED this, but it's something I've been wanting for years and I can afford. As for wasting my time, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is one of the hardest majors in my college and I have a 3.44 GPA. Oh and a pretty substantial merit-based scholarship too. So thank you for your concern but I really don't think having a good computer will bite me later on, I just like to work hard and play hard.
  13. Well I'm not 1000% sure I'm going to need all 10tb now. But imo it is better to spend like 200 dollars more overall and only pay a couple bucks more every month with the financing then to have to buy an entirely new hard drive in the future. About the H100i, is it really worth it? Would getting a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO be enough? And yeah, the use of the nvme ssd is going to make me lose two SATA ports but the motherboard has six so that won't really be a problem.
  14. Well I currently have an Asus g750 JM. Reasonably good computer but waaaay to heavy for my day to day in college. I was going to buy an Alienware 13 to serve my portability needs and high end gaming but I decided to buy this chromebook (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DBGVB7K/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_10?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) for use in the library and classes and build a desktop. Honestly looks like a much better option compared to the 2200 dollars I would spend on a Alienware 13 that only has 1060 (not that it's bad but a 1080 ti is much better suited for 4k games).
  15. Usually, I would as well but I'm not in this case because of space in the dorm.
