    If the HDD is 400GB or less, then yes you can clone it with Intel tool it came with and your SSD will be bootable and your all set,  Now you can format the 7200rpm or something.

    Yes, you can since your data occupies less than the drive capacity.  It doesn't need to be the same since as your HDD< just the data you're moving.

    That's also the only direct adapter I know of at the moment.  They're a bit wobbly if you shake the table, but they do the job well enough.
