  1. Auto HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Microsoft DirectStorage are features relevant to gaming that are exclusive to Windows 11. Unless you're running old games on extremely old hardware, you're not likely going to see any performance benefits from using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
  2. Upgrading to a Ryzen 9 3900X/5900X will help your system's performance in productivity workloads (which is what you are mostly planning to use it for). You could also save around $20 by buying a 4x8GB RAM kit instead of two 2x8GB RAM kits. --> https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xMVG3C/gskill-aegis-64-gb-4-x-16-gb-ddr4-3200-memory-f4-3200c16q-32gis
  3. Not really a cheap security camera at a price point of $200, there are already many security cameras on the market such as the Wyze Cam Pan that have decent motion-tracking capabilities for a fraction of the cost.
  4. Are you using mobile tethering through a smartphone or do you have a dedicated wireless hotspot device from your ISP? If you have a dedicated hotspot, please mention the model/manufacturer in this thread.
  5. Your device will use Wi-Fi antennas which are different than your mobile antennas, there's 5GHz Wi-Fi, no such thing as a 5G router (unless you're using cellular data for internet). Go to your browser settings and try clearing out the cache/cookies, update the firmware on your router/modem, and switch the default DNS (I have had good results with OpenDNS). Ask your neighbors if they are having the same problems with the same ISP, I would request a technician visit from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) if it is free. 6. Browser, version and OS: Google Chrome Version 91.0.4472.114 (Official Build) (64-bit), Windows 10 Professional Good morning/evening, I have the Grammarly for Chrome extension enabled for linustechtips.com, although I am not seeing any suggestions in the post editor. I remember being able to use Grammarly before on the forum, although am not sure why it isn't working any longer? The basic spell check in Chrome works well enough for typos, although it is nice to have some more advanced spelling/grammar checking. Also, if I go to Account Settings --> Security and Privacy --> Configure Two Factor Authentication, and enable Backup Codes, it is asking for a backup code every time that I login. I was thinking that you would only need to use the codes if questionable login activity was detected, such as logging in from a new device / location. The forum software is letting me enable Backup Codes without first having enabled Google Authenticator and/or Email recovery, since these Backup Codes are can only be used once, wouldn't a user get locked out of their account once they ran out of codes (accidentally logging out without remembering that they need to go back to Account Settings for new codes)? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions, @Boomwebsearch
  7. Yeah, you're right, the motherboards in Dell prebuilt systems are usually quite proprietary. Also, you probably aren't going to be able to swap that Dell PSU for a better one without adapters because of proprietary power connections. The Intel Core i5-10400 has 2 cores / 4 threads extra, although the Intel Core i3-10100 has a faster base operating frequency by 700 MHz. You could always upgrade the CPU later down the road to something such as the 8-core/16-thread Intel Core i7-10700 (price difference will probably drop as newer generations are released).
  8. What components are you planning to run in the case, what country are you shopping from, and what is your budget?
  9. Simply increasing the clock speed won't really do much harm, although if you're having to run significantly more voltage through it to achieve that clock speed stably then that could damage your card a lot quickly. Monitor your GPU temperatures using Open Hardware Monitor and then post a screenshot to this thread. --> https://openhardwaremonitor.org/
  10. If we are just looking at the raw specifications then it is a downgrade from the Dell Inspiron 3881 option, although most likely you're going to have more upgradability than the Dell. I would go with this version of that desktop instead because it has a 16GB larger SSD and is €100.01 cheaper. --> https://www.mediamarkt.gr/product/laptop-tablet-computing/desktop--all-in-one/desktop/quest-me-desktop-intel-core-i3-10100-8gb-256gb-ssd-1tb-hdd-intel-uhd-630/1586943
  11. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove old graphics drivers, then go to your GPU manufacturer's website and install the latest driver version available for your operating system. Link to download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) --> https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
  12. The benefit of using an external HDD is that you can make backups and then unplug the drive from your system (backups won't be affected by ransomware/malware while the external drive is disconnected). Unless the Seagate Backup Plus Hub is cheaper than other options, get the cheaper option from either an internal HDD paired with a SATA to USB 3.0 enclosure/dock or an external HDD.
  13. What programs did you use specifically to scan your system for viruses/malware, did you use the advanced/through scanning options or the quick ones? I would recommend running the free version of Glarysoft's Malware Hunter (just press "Download" instead of "Subscribe Now") and running a Full Scan. --> https://www.glarysoft.com/malware-hunter/
  14. The Wi-Fi on that motherboard is pretty much top of the line, not worth spending money on a PCIe Wi-Fi adapter that's not likely going help your device's internet connection speeds/performance. What Wi-Fi router / modem do you have and are you getting close to the speeds you're paying for from your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
  15. Yeah, you can definitely get a ton of old computers/components that still work at some e-waste / metal recycling places for free or extremely cheap (basically the price of the scrap metal). Most of the ones you find are pretty old and not that usable today, you're very lucky finding this RTX 2080Ti, hope you will be able to get it working like new!
  16. This would be my recommended PC hardware configuration considering your budget and indented purpose for the PC build: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor ($200.99 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 V2 64.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($24.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($64.98 @ Amazon) Memory: Silicon Power XPOWER Turbine 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($71.97 @ Amazon) Storage: Silicon Power Ace A55 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($31.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Blue 2 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Amazon) Case: HEC HX300 ATX Mid Tower Case ($34.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA G3 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Amazon) Total: $519.89 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-07-01 16:07 EDT-0400
  17. The Ryzen 7 2700 has a TDP of 65 watts. The included CPU cooler that it comes with in the retail version has a rated TDP of 95 Watts (AMD Wraith Spire), allowing for some overclocking room on the stock cooler. I forgot to mention in my last post that there's also an AMD Wraith Prism CPU cooler included with certain Ryzen processors with a rated TDP of 105 watts (not applicable to the Ryzen 7 2700). I didn't want to assume that we are talking about the same system as that included in your current signature block.
  18. Please include what CPU this cooler came with for a more specific answer regarding the TDP rating. AMD Wraith Stealth CPU cooler TDP --> 65 Watts AMD Wraith Spire CPU cooler TDP --> 95 Watts AMD Wraith Max CPU cooler TDP --> 140 Watts
  19. I wouldn't recommend that you buy a gaming laptop such as this one for college purposes. It will be too heavy/bulky to easily carry around the campus, have rather poor battery life (stay away from dedicated graphics on laptops if you can), and the design could be a distraction to yourself and/or others (gaming laptops are designed to stand out, not be minimalistic to blend in). If you value graphics performance and would want to avoid dedicated graphics to save battery, get a newer processor such an an Intel 10th/11th gen or Ryzen 3000/4000/5000 series processor that features better integrated graphics. Also, I wouldn't recommend getting a laptop screen any larger than 15.6" (even with narrow bezels). Many laptops feature thinner bezels which should help reduce the overall footprint of the computer.
  20. You could put the rest of the components together and wait until GPU prices drop before buying the graphics card (using integrated graphics or another card you may have lying around in the meantime). Seems like the linked system integrator is disclosing what components they are using (a good practice, transparency), looks mostly standard to me from the models I've looked through. No worries, I was able to translate the pages (over to English) using the Google Translate function that's built into Google Chrome. This is the model I would go with from that system integrator (in terms of a good value configuration, price to performance) --> https://www.komplett.dk/product/1159959/pc-tablets/komplett-pc/komplett-epic-gaming-pc/komplett-a141-epic-gaming-pc#
  21. That system is still rather capable today, maybe consider using it for streaming. I would generally advise being carefully about buying prebuilt systems (proprietary connectors, cheap low-quality components, limited upgrade paths, etc.), although there are certainly some fair system integrators out there (usually they have tons of GPUs stored in inventory from manufacturers, good for maintaining lower prices during shortages like what's happening currently). Are you 100% sure you don't want to build the computer (if it means better performance for the cost and/or more component upgrade flexibility), could you give us a link to the specific system integrator's website?
  22. Please mention the country you are shopping from and if you have any components lying around that could be put towards this build (ex. graphics card, DDR4 RAM, storage drive, case, etc.). I can't really recommend going out and buying a new graphics card right now because of how high the prices are (due to the shortage). Also, please include a ballpark number for your max budget (ex. $500, $1000, $1500). Many streamers prefer having two systems (one for gaming and the other for streaming), what system specifications do you have currently, would you like to keep it to one build or are you fine if it extends to two. Could help you get better game performance and quality stream for your viewers cheaper if you're fine with 2 systems.
  23. At least you could get an SSD if your current system doesn't have one, will make a huge difference in overall system responsiveness, you can always move the SSD over to your new build/s in the future. PCPartPicker Part List Storage: Silicon Power Ace A55 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($31.99 @ Amazon) Total: $31.99 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-06-29 18:06 EDT-0400 I would say around $350 USD would be a reasonable budget to aim for, as long as you aren't planning to do anything too resource intensive.
  24. Yeah, this is what I was trying to say. Windows can show you a lot of your hardware specifications, take a look at this video that shows you a few different ways to find this information:
  25. Yeah, that thermal paste application wasn't that great, wouldn't have been recommended for the long-term, although should have been fine for a few weeks (as long as you weren't running near full load for extended periods of time). Maybe consider getting a thermal pad instead of paste as it is generally more easy to apply consistently, also won't really degrade over time. PCPartPicker Part List Thermal Compound: Sunbeam Iceberg TS-IB 1 g Thermal Paste ($5.99 @ Amazon) Total: $5.99 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-06-29 17:56 EDT-0400
