I own one, it's a pretty good phone. The main gripes I have with it are:
Snapdragon 821 instead of 825
No stero speakers
Some backlight bleed when it's dark and using always on display
The camera is not bad, but can't compare with that of other flagship phones. The screen is perfect, 1440p is plenty, and it is bright enough. LG does put their preinstalled crap, but I guess that's just a fact of life now. The USB C can be annoying, because they are very rare to find if you don't have your own. The battery life will last you a day of moderate usage, but it certainly could be better. Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 is great, but requires the special charger.
Overall, it's a good phone, but I personally wouldn't choose it over other flagship phones.

Have you considered a Ryzen system? even a Ryzen 3 system with a decent GPU can save you some money and they honestly do not perform that bad at all!

I guess you are right and a good answer, it all comes down to personal preference and what will suite what you plan to do with the cards
