  1. best for Ray Tracing then the only card IMO is the RTX 2080 Ti or Titan since there the only cards that can somewhat run ray traced games at 1440P. Best mid range RTX 2070 Super
  2. Did hey ever answer what this would be for? Either way if it is for "gaming" than yeah 3950X while a value is just overkill and I would say step down to a 3900X, 3700X or even 3600X Go Noctua NH-D15S for better RAM compatibility 970 EVO are kind of a waste of money IMO I would just go Intel 660P or whatever you can get at $100 or cheaper for a 1TB PCIe gen 4 NVME drives are totally not worth it yet Now if you aren't just gaming and you read and write a ton of files ignore my suggestions
  3. 3800X IMO is kind of pointless just get a 3600X, or 3700X for more threads, or 3900X if you wants threads and speed and have a much higher budget
  4. plus or minus 1-2 FPS so no considering the 3950X is $250 and is basically not available. I owned a 3900X and now own a 3950X and both are great chips but "just" for gaming a 3700X is your best bet
  5. If you can wait honestly next gen AMD and especially Nvidia due to 7nm will provide big increases from what I can tell. But all of this is 6-8 months maybe? If you had to buy now and are team green $500 for essentially a GTX 1080 Ti but with Ray Tracing doesn't sound amazing but still is a really great 1440P card. If you have the budget a RTX 2080 Ti is an amazing card. I am thinking the RTX 2080 Ti Super is real and that will push the RTX 2080 Ti to $1000 and the Super to $1200.
  6. That's a huge gap in $ between the two chips and platforms but X570 should be fine like everyone else stated
  7. cool, good luck finding a 3950X at retail let alone at all But yeah IMO the best CPU in ages that you could run for a long time
  8. Historically AMD are slower in delivering working drivers, take that as you will
  9. best value financially no way but yeah a RTX 2070 Super or even 5700 XT are $400-$500 and are just a GTX 1080 Ti but with better tech. The kicker for me is that the RTX 2080 Ti is really the perfect 3440x1440 high refresh card and really the only true 4K 60+ FPS card out there and that is how I personally justify it. Also it is the only RTX card that showed somewhat of a generational performance increase like you said at 25%-30% Here is the thing whether it's $1000 or $1200+ and no matter how you and your wallet personally feel about the RTX 2080 Ti being a good value, the fact remains Nividia's top consumer Pascal card in the GTX 1080 Ti card launched at at $700. Not An Apple fan did a great video recently and he explains the $500 increase for the RTX 2080 Ti based on the fact that people bought Titans is droves at $1200 even though it was basically a minimally faster $700 GTX 1080 Ti. I agree with this and idea that Nvidia saw an opportunity to price the RTX 2080 Ti at that $1200 mark Yes the RTX 2080 Ti is a great card just not a great value compared to Pascal I also fall into this camp so yeah it sort of doesn't matter
  10. for this monitor you could do a 5700XT or RTX 2070 Super and that will hit around 80-100+ frames in most games, with some exceptions like Red Dead. Really depends on your budget, since if the rumored of the RTX 2080 Ti Super comes true the 2080 Ti should drop maybe even sub $1K which is still a lot but quite frankly the best card for 3440x1440 and 4K with out turning down any settings
  11. Congrats. People forget how hard 3440X1440 is to drive. Red Dead is a killer and I only average maybe 60 FPS with a RTX 2080 Ti which is still better than 30 FPS locked on console...
  12. Good deal I would do it. I have the older version and haven't had any issues besides some normal corner IPS glow and one corner's frame has a gap but I got mine for $620 when they were normally going for $900 a year ago
  13. no because response time is the time it tapes to change from one color to another. Hz is the time it takes to change from one frame to another
  14. Looking to buy a secondary monitor to go with my 34" UW AW3418DW and I noticed there are some great sales on last gen TN AW2518HF for $270 at MicroCenter. I also noticed Dell released the AW2720HF a 27" 1080P IPS 240Hz monitor and I missed the sale at $350 which would have been a no brainer, but now the monitor is now at $420. Mostly I would be using this as a secondary monitor but also to exclusively use on high paced games or games that even with a RTX 2080 Ti are hard to game on at 3440x1440 I am leaning towards the AW2518HF since it will match my AW3418DW, 1080P looks better on a 24.5', it's cheaper, and being smaller it will fit on my desk better with my 34" Any suggestions? or LG 27GK750F-B at $270, 27" FreeSync but G-SYNC compatible, TN, 1080P
  15. no offense $20 is a brainer and I doubt $20 makes the difference in upgrading any other part to anything significant. maybe $20 is 3200 to 3600 RAM? Or a basic Intel 660P NVME to something more quality. But nothing in my book that will stop you form just clicking the button to get that 3800X
  16. In the US totally sold out with re-sellers asking as much as $1500 for them. Apparently Amazon has had a few small shipments that sell out in seconds, which probably has to do with bots. Got mine on launch by reserving for in store pickup at MicroCenter. Honestly I can't see healthy stock until at least February and even then I can easily see retailers asking 5%-15% above retail. best advice grab a 2700x for $130 sell it for $80-$100 when the 3950X restocks for MSRP or just for a R9 3900X which has the multi-core performance of a 2950X and performs close enough to a i9 9900K while gaming
  17. A 2080 Super is what $750? Some BF sales already have 2080 Ti at $1000. $250 isn't chump change but I would do whatever possible to get up to that. The Super cards are all ok to good but the 2080 Ti is the only card that comes close to pushing 4K or even decent frames at 3440x1440 I have a AW3418DW and any of these cards would be able to push frames on it, however the 2080 Super and Ti especially at this elevated 2K resolution and at 120 HZ are the ones I would go with People forget 3440x1440 is 34% more pixels than 2560x1440 so if you want to maximize this monitor to get at least 100 FPS This being said there is supposedly a 2080 Ti Super on the way next year and probably an Nvidia refresh third quarter
  18. If you MUST stay with intel at least go Z390 and I would say an i7 8700K is the bare min upgrade. This will allow you to go up to a 9900KS if need be or by the grace of God if Intel extends 14NM again lol
  19. while I don't have any advice on where to buy i would say this is one of the few times were buying other parts ahead of time makes sense as long as you are committed to Threadripper since you will need a beefy PSU and I highly recommend custom water cooling
  20. whatever you think about Intel vs AMD the truth of the matter is that the AM4 platform probably has more legs compared to Z390. AMD has already stated support until 2020 and since Zen 7NM + will just be a refresh (to my knowledge) in theory the AM4 platform should get another gen chip. I think it is all but confirmed that Intel's 10NM will require new motherboards. Either way as a former 3900X owner it's a hell of a chip. Multi core it's basically performs like a Threadripper 2950X and it is close to competing with a 9900K in gaming. At $500 it's kind of a no brainer unless you only game at 1080P, use a 200+ Hz monitor, and will not use more than 8 cores. But in my mind that is a lot of caveats for a i9 9900K or KS.
  21. While the 3700X and 3800X are good chips they are somewhat pointless in the AMD stack since they almost come pre overclocked, thus it's no wonder why your 3700X runs hot. Personally I never felt the need to overclock modern AMD chips since the gains are pretty minimal.
  22. lol dude remember when I responded to your previous post about the 3950X being just a beast or just waiting for the Threadripper refresh which now kills every chip out there? Unless you have some need for an Intel based chip, there is zero reason to stay with Intel. I sold my X399 board and 2950X and just got my 3950X and man besides the PCIe lanes the 3950X has the same core count but it much faster and requires less power and is much easier to cool. I am cooling a 16 core CPU with a 240mm AIO, that is insane. The X299 is a dead platform honestly and I am not sure Intel is competitive maybe until 2021-2022, maybe. So for me if you love to tinker sure the 10980XE will fulfill your overclocking fancy but at the end of the day the 3950X is simply a cheaper and in a lot of cases faster chip. If you really want to go all out just go Threadripper
  23. The most I would upgrade to if I were you would be the 8700K which is still a hell of a gaming chip or just stay put. If you really feel the itch to burn money maybe upgrade the GPU but if you can wait 6-8 months better GPUs should be on the horizon
