This doesn't sound like a network issue, more like a chrome issue. Try reinstalling maybe?

Seithon got a reaction from Beskamir in Meltdown and Spectre patch shows significant impact on SSD performance
As reported by heise.de apparently the impact of the windows patches upon the performance of SSD's is even greater then the impact upon CPU operations.

One relevant (google translated) section from the article reads

c't: Significantly lower SSD performance after security updates
c't has also seen significant drops in SSD performance after installing BIOS and security updates (Core i7-8700K, Asus Maximus X Hero, Samsung 960 Pro, Random Access with 4K blocks and 32 I / O-targets). The Samsung SSD only reached 105,986 I / Ops for reading and 79,313 I / Ops for writing compared to 197,525 / 185,620 I / OPs (previous BIOS, Windows with KB4054517). Further analysis, benchmarks on the effects of patches, and reviews of updates can be found in the upcoming c't issue 3/18.

So... Yeah I went to upgrade my machine this week. Received a new Mobo/CPU/RAM and went at it and discovered a PROBLEM(TM).

Turns out my GPU with it's custom aftermarket cooler wouldn't fit in the top PCIE slot so I moved it down to the bottom.. and it wouldn't let me put the HDD cage back in so now... well...

So I'm stuck like this until I get a new videocard and case setup for myself but that's life

Didn't see a post about this sort of thing so I thought I'd start one

Let's be honest folks, sometimes you just need to get something working and damn the consequences.
So while it may look horrific or silly or downright dangerous take a picture of your secret shame (or pride) of the time you had to put your "creative thinking" skills to use or of when you had to stop and say "Hm, what would Linus do?"

And me? I'm stuck between cases and waiting for RX580's to come back onto the market at "sane" prices, so I'm stuck using my old modded HD7950 which is to damn big to fit in the proper slot and needed extra support to stop it sagging. Lego to the rescue

Oh and the plastic is there because I can't put the HDD cage back into the computer (Video Card is to long) So now the HDD's sit outside with the plastic replacing the side panel to help keep dust out. Worked surprisingly well

Cool! I don't have many hanky mods yet.

As a side note, do we get WWLD pins now?

oh god i've got a massive list of these

i was working on a computer for a lan party and it had a proprietary power supply and no 6 pins and it needed a gpu so i cut off the molexs and soldered it directly to the gpu.

at another lan party we needed another extra computer but same issue again no 6 pin this time since i was even shorter on time i jammed wire into a second psu to turn it on then wired that psu to the gpu so it was running 2 psus when you restarted it you had to turn it on in a certain order or it would fuck up.

i needed a portable case so i got a 3 inch binder and cut holes in it for the cpu holes then zip tied it in and then when transporting it i just had to talk off the gpu and cooler

i was working a on a eth mine for someone a few years ago and he wanted to add an extra gpu this was in normal tower case before gpu risers were good but there were already 2 3 slot gpus in the case so there wasn't enough slots of the back of the case so i secure it under it after routering the case and then used twine to support the gpu

thats all i can think of for now but there were a lot more that i cant remember atm
