  1. I have an HP Probook laptop. This morning I went to use it and it would not start. Thinking the battery is dead I went to plug in the AC adapter....which upon plugging it in started the laptop.....which turns off by itself after 2 seconds. (odd). It will not start when I hit the power button, but it registers as charging. I have tested swapping out RAM sticks and using a different AC adapter. Also have removed the battery leaving it plugged in....still not working. Thoughts?
  2. I wanna know what mic arms are being used in the WAN show, I'd like to have a desk mounted one like that that does not go up and over but rather is lower out of eyesight as these ones seem
  3. Look through the software that each synology machine is able to run, and determine what software you would like to have. Some machines are better equipped depending on the CPU/RAM.
  4. With two 6 TB hard drives, if you want any parity you're going to use Raid 1, which as you may know, mirrors the drive 1:1. That being said you would be limited to 6TB of space overall. If you chose to get bigger drives than you would end at the 12+TB that you initially mentioned. The four bay synology machines may be better if you want to start with two 6TB drives and potentially expand in the future or utilize a different Raid configuration. To my knowledge, many of the synology machines now can be remotely accessed. They also can support cloud backups elsewhere if you want to setup an off-site backup as well.
  5. Is this current ban specific just to Bitcoin or to all Crypto mining operations? What effects do you think this will have on specific tech such as ASICs which, as far as I know, remain the "ideal" or most efficient means of mining Bitcoin. Interested to hear others thoughts.
  6. If there is I must have missed it somehow. I'll give it another look. I'll also check out the discord
  7. Where is the most appropriate place in this forum to discuss and view content related to 3d printing. Seems LMG and the community are very interested but haven't been successful finding where everyone goes.
  8. Thank you both, I somewhat figured that but was hopeful it may be useful
  9. Considering switching everything over to the gog launcher since it appears to be an all in one solution for steam, origin, uplay, etc. What are your thoughts with it so far, good and bad?
  10. Have you considered using a raspberry pi to create an emulation station? They typically can include older windows titles.
  11. I just realized that if I change cases the PSU wires wont be long enough
  12. Check if you need to install drivers for whatever controller manages the drive
  13. Silverstone has/had a case with an inverted motherboard orientation as you've suggested. Linus used to have it years ago....I think. I thought it was the TJ-(something), but couldnt find it with a quick google search, you may have more luck
  14. I'll have to 3d print a bracket to compensate for the form factor change then. But a Corsait 500w isnt that expensive and may be worth it.
  15. What is your experience with these PSUs in the Optiplex line? Debating buying a better one since it will be operating 24/7
  16. It is one of the SFF versions, not the full tower unfortunately
  17. If front panel connectors are my only issue than I can work with that. Debating too whether or not the motherboard SATA is sufficient or I should get a SAS/SATA card for more drives.
  18. The optiplex is a 2013 model, and it appears from a glance to be a mATX motherboard. I had been eyeballing the Silverstone DS380 as a potential case but it is mITX. I think that a mATX case with 4+ 3.5" bays will suffice. And a single 5.25" bay wouldn't be a bad idea for a Blu-Ray drive for ripping
  19. Sounds reasonable. And I could just upgrade the case and transplant the current setup into that for the future. Is shucking still the go to for NAS drives?
  20. To start, I honestly think I could get by with 8TB. But I would like to have expansion options. I would like some redundancy though, and will eventually get an external to have as a cold backup. The optiplex case also is not able to take anymore than 1 HDD
  21. Budget (including currency): ideally under $400, not including drives Country: USA, Microcenter accesible Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: PLEX, Desktop Backup, Ark Server, Valheim Server, Minecraft Server.....not all 3 at once Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Have an i5 Dell Optiplex which I can use as a base or part out. Currently only has 8GB of RAM, but can upgrade. Need a new case at the very least to support more HDDs. Have an NVMe as a boot or cache drive. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!
  22. Do you have a means of checking the power draw during those tests of games?
  23. The AMD Ryzen coolers are actually fairly good overall. I would start off with that and then if you determine you need additional cooling due to your climate, or overclocking, then you could always add one after the fact. Otherwise, I do not see any issues with your parts list. I would consider a larger and slower secondary drive for storage purposes unless you think 1TB of NVMe will be enough.
