  1. I just bought an sr-2 motherboard myself from America on ebay (im in Australia). The x5670's are awesome still, a lot of russians are posting vids on youtube playing gta V etc... with 1070's. Seems to still have very good performance. My lga 1366 setup will just be for game servers though.
  2. I would really hold off, atm I use a 6700k system with my older system being the i7 3820. I would hold off personally, put some more funds aside and hit up the kaby lake cpu's early next year, add a nice sound card in with those extra funds and maybe a nice speaker and headphone setup. apparently the flagship will have a standard 4.2ghz and boost of 4.5ghz, that MAY indicate it will overclock well. Generally I tend to skip 3 generations for each upgrade and with recent developments that may stretch to 4 generations. I look forward however, to when they come off of silicon and move on to the next design.
  3. Sorry to necro a thread but I am a week on/off worker and delve in here while at work. I hope remounting fixed it for you immortal if not heres a couple things you can do: 1. Get HwInfo 32/64 depending on your setup and check that the vcore isn't too high...or for that fact low. If your CPU is getting too much juice youll usually get the temps you are. My 6700k reaches just above 80C but hasn't caused issues for me in my tropical Australian climate. 2. Re-Seat the CPU by all means if you haven't already, get a good paste and make sure you do not make it too firm as a lot of people have damaged skylake CPU's by seating the coolers to hard. 3. Try to refrain from using the manufacturer's overclocking/monitoring software, It can sometimes be inaccurate and if using it to overclock that inaccuracy can brick a card/chip. I generally do my overclocking/stabilizing through the BIOS for my CPU and for GPU I use evga precision X. Even though I use a Palit GPU. 4. The one thing I cannot see in your specs is the storage device you're using, try and run a few SSD/HDD benchmarks and compare results with others you find using google etc.... You may find a culprit could be a HDD with a bad sector or a failing SSD. 5. Also make sure your audio drivers are up to date, I had a few issues years ago in the days of the i5 750/760's when my shoddy audio driver would hardlock my system. 6. A good thing to do as well is get a keyboard with an lcd screen if you can, I find monitoring software works well with most and my g510 keyboard is splendid with precision. Makes for easy on-the-fly monitoring while stress testing or just making sure the system is running smooth. 7. Lastly, get memtest on a bootable USB/DVD and check your memory isn't faulting. With 2 sticks if 1 is bad that doesn't leave your system with much breathing room while gaming which could easily explain the freezing up. I hope the suggestions I've made are no longer required but if not then I hope something here helps :). Cheers, The Drunkard.
  4. Look at my skylake MOBO, Check out the reviews on it, pretty decent if you have a multi-gpu setup or plan to have one (I am planning on dual 1080ti's myself). The latency of only using one is negligible btw, only around 2-5fps at most. However if you're using 3DS and work in unity you may want to go the 6800k just because of the extra threads. However as with all technology there are always new shinies around the corner. I myself and holding out on upgrading (skipping kaby) and going to ivyb-e if it releases in a decent time-frame. Guess all you can really do is try to judge when you need to make that leap. I went from the 3820 to the 6700k, was like night and day. A good way to tell if its worth the upgrade is looking at multithreaded and single thread performance in the anandtech benchmark locatedhere: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/39 It's the exact same tool I used, found it more handy than cpuboss etc... Anyways I wish you all the best in your purchase and enjoy the power that only us elitists can wield ~.^.
  5. Looks like youre running windows 10, I had an issue where windows processes were using 23/32gb of my RAM. This was due to a feature in windows 10 to keep outdated drivers compatible. It turned out updating my killer network drivers did the trick. However if you look around there are a few guides on making an edit in the registry to turn off that compatibility feature, I also tried that and it all worked with no issues. Hope this helps.
  6. Hold out a wee bit longer and smash out an IVYB-E ?
  7. Hey Mate, Go the gigabyte, you said sound and quality, both use the same ALC1150 but the gigabyte has an amplifier, depending on the speakers you use you will find this beneficial. Qualityw-wise they are almost the same I reckon, although the shield is where they will differ. My board is also a gigabyte and has the pcie shield, now it's only really important if youre using a graphics card that is heavy or has a heavy cooler. Most other PCIE devices arent really that heavy so they shouldn't be an issue. The shield if soldered properly tends to resist movement when having a heavy object mounted. With custom coolers like the ones arctic produce is where these shields shine, otherwise theyre extra cost for no benefit. Also as I tell all my mates when theyre upgrading, be aware the H series don't really overclock, youll get boost and thats it really. Cheers.
  8. So you mentioned "its not in the first DIMM", are you meaning it isn't in the top PCIE slot?. If so I would recommend possibly trying a PCIE cable going from the top PCIE slot to the GPU, don't even have to mount it properly if you're just testing (although make sure you aren't sitting it on anything conductive of course). If it runs a lot better then bobs your uncle you have found the issue. Also a lot of people have reported issues with the new nvidia driver, I havent even updated to it and get 86fps @ 1440p on my 980ti so I would recommend a driver rollback if you've updated just to try it out. On top of that also check your PSU and make sure you're getting enough power to your system (I assume it is if your performance went up with your recent power settings change). The other option is checking gpu-z to make sure your GPU is running at the full PCIE 3.0/3.1 @ 16x (you will see this on the right hand side of the application. Failing the above things, I would check other system resources and of course making sure the scaling in bf1 is at 42% as that is 100% of the set resolution (I know I know....it makes no sense).
  9. If BIOS update is no dice for you also check how much ram is being used, there is an issue with windows 10. Where out of date drivers are causing excessive ram to be used. My out of date killer network driver caused a 20gb RAM usage. There are also registry changes you can make to change this but I would first recommend also updating all you drivers.
  10. The monitor in my sig rig #1 is pretty decent. Has the same PPI as a 1440p @ 27" and has a pretty decent response time. You can check out its review by tftcentral here:http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/philips_bdm4065uc.htm . Otherwise there is news on tftcentral of a 120hz+ 4k panel in developemnt. This would be best for gaming especially if your budget isn't restricted. The other option is the new 4k philips curved 40" coming out soon, I may even be jumping on that.
  11. Good Morning/Evening Lads, Just curious about whether my system #2 in my sig could be used as a home server. I am going to be purchasing 2x Thermaltake core x9 cases and Stacking them just to allow easier access to both systems. I will be upgrading the 16gb up to 64gb 1600 at low CAS to be able to run a VM ubuntu for a bot admin for 7 days to die with 20-30 slots, and an ARK: Survival Evolved server with a few mods. If anyone has experience hosting a home server do you reckon this setup will run without a hitch? I am running a 100/40 connection and can possibly get a 2nd 100/40 service on the 2nd fiber port. However this would not be preferred as both would cost $110 each a month (Australian ISP). I can however limit the connection to my gaming rig through my fritzbox 7390 if need be. Any feedback on this is much appreciated. Cheers. *EDIT*: I would also install a 1tb SSD to host both servers or maybe do a 2x500gb SSD if need be.
  12. I will have a chuckle in a couple of months when all this blows over and the game is released with all the fixes like they have promised. All this energy wasted on whining makes me wonder how we got this far as a species.....
