  1. I'm not entirely sure how this translates to Fuji's X-Mount system. From your explanation, I understood that I should check whether the lens was made with an asp-c sensor in mind or not. And if it was, then I get what's written on the lens, and if it wasn't made for an aps-c sensor then I have to keep the crop factor in mind. For example: I tried to quickly check this and looked up the "XF 8-16 mm F2.8 R LM WR" lens on wikipedia and on a camera review site. The site wrote: "also the widest-angle autofocus lens you can currently get for cameras with APS-C sized or smaller image sensors." If I were to put this on my asp-c camera, I'd get the 8-16mm focal length. However if that lens is made for a full frame sensor, I'd need a lens with a 5-10mm focal length if I wanted to achieve that same effect/angle. I've also read that statement that the lenses are marketed with full frame focal length in mind, but there's just something that doesn't want to click in my brain and I don't know what I'm missing, or what I'm unnecessarily overcomplicating. But why would I even want to achieve that same effect, why would it even matter, as long as it falls into the wide angle category it should be fine.
  2. I got a camera a while ago, a Fujifilm XT 200. I'm happy with it and I'm reading up on a lot of useful and less useful information. Like this one apparently. But it is such an annoying bugbear that I need to get rid of before I can move on to more interesting and useful stuff again. Rambling my and my general comprehension: The XT 200 is an apsc camera with a crop factor of 1,5. I understand the basics of it. If I use a 50mm lens on an apsc like mine and a 50mm on a full frame(ff) camera, I will get "more image" and a wider angle on the full frame. And I'd have to switch to a 33mm lens on the apsc or respectively a 75mm on the ff to get a near identical image at the same location. I also understand that there are lenses for ff cameras and apsc cameras and that it doesn't matter if I use an ff lens on an apsc camera, but might get a black circle if I use those lenses the other way round because of the sensor size. FF lenses are also more expensive simply because they have to be larger. Probably the actual problem Once the man made-distinctions between wide angle-, normal- and tele lenses come into play, it starts to confuse me. Sure, there are no real limitations on what I can use a normal lens for but it is more beneficial in some situations than a wide angle lens for example. "You should use a normal lens (50mm) for portrait shootings." Probably because the distance to the model is comfortable, and you don't have to remove too much footage during editing. With a wide angle lense you'd have to get up close to get a decent portrait if you also want good details. And you have a smaller risk when it comes to distorted proportions. Let's say I want to follow that advice, what lens would I have to buy for my apsc camera? Still a 50mm lens that's made for apsc cameras? A general 35mm lens for ff ? Or maybe a 35mm lens for apsc cameras? But isn't a 35mm lens technically considered a wide angle lens? Or do I only have to account for the crop factor if I go out of my way to buy a lens that's actually designed for a full frame camera? And this thought procress feels like a roadblock in other areas as well, like looking at example pictures that also state their settings, as some people here do in the photo sharing thread. Mostly so I can try to understand the basics: "Aha they used a 50mm lens so they got this field of view, and oh, they used an aperture of 1,2 so course the background is more blurry. Would I have to have to use a 35mm lens to recreate this but does it even matter when I don't know what camera they used?
  3. And all of this could have been prevented if they didnt remove the dislike count.
  4. I've noticed that I'm hitting the dislike button a lot more often since the button got deleted, instead of just ignoring it or liking content of my frequently watched channels out of habit. Because the video was not good or because I disliked some part of it. Even for some of my frequently watched channels. Not sure why though. Maybe because I'm more aware of the flaws now? Because I am not in the visible minority anymore when disliking a video, or thinking that my opinion might actually not be wrong compared to the majority of upvotes? Linus mentioned all the possible reasons why yt removed it, so there's nothing to add. I really wish they'll bring it back though, or that this project is a huge success. Watching tutorials or guides on youtube has been awful since its removal.
  5. This video just solidifies my initial thought that Linux is not for me and probably won't for the next decade or two. Not techie enough, too scared to make mistakes, too lazy to search for solutions when it comes to niche software. Rocket League wasn't working for me today, and I tried a lot of stuff for about 2 hours and just a random hint suggested that it might be the fault of my graphics drivers. And updating those got rid of my problem. When I have so much trouble with figuring this out, then Linux is a bit over my head. The series is still fun to watch so far. Good luck to all the interested and not so tech savvy people that want to give Linux a try.
  6. A video about a store I have no access to. After 5 minutes of deciding what to buy in this sponsored store that offers so much stuff, I lost interest in whatever pretence there was for this video.
  7. My view on this is very pessimistic. I don't think the modders will win. And if they win, then this might not change anything for this particular game but for future ones. With updated User Agreements that only allow modding when the publisher gets full control over distribution rights. Just so that they can take it offline whenever they want, without having to go to court. But to be honest, I don't actually know the general laws and rules regarding modding, so this might very well be the case already.
  8. I thought this is a takedown dispute? A favorable ruling would be that they don't have to take it down. How do I come to this conclusion? I don't know, it's a foreign justice system, how could I even know? But yes, publishers will very likely start to regulate this a lot harder. Wouldn't you do the same if you lose some rights to your own posessions just because you didn't take care of it enough? I don't argue that mods are good thing for publishers, but once money is involved, it is always about ALL THE MONEY. Especially when you have investors, and people, shareholders, companies that don't give a single fuck about gaming itself but just money.
  9. I can't imagine that take2 didn't know anything about these mods. Those were just convenient. The mods kept people engaged with their old products and didn't cost the company a dime for marketing, patches, or additional community management. The mods probably also helped with finding out how likely it would be, that people might pull the trigger for a nostalgia purchase, in addition to being an ez money grab until their next big gta release. But now that money is on the line things changed, because they want all the money. This makes me wonder if a favorable verdict for the modding community will also mean, well, not their demise but very very strict regulations. Companies will follow through with taking down mods a lot quicker and more rigorous to protect their intellectual properties by going "full nintendo" or even worse
  10. Good luck with this endeavor, maybe it can make a notable dent in the tech news industry. I probably won't care too much about it since just about everything LMG showed off in their videos has either not been in my field of interest, not available in my region, or just flat out too pricy. So, unfortunately,it won't make much of a difference if the numbers and the reports will be (more) accurate and thourough from some point on. And there have been other sources if I ever needed that. The basic rule still applies that only interesting stuff will get tested, or else it's just wasted money.
  11. Rejoice! From now on there will only be great EA Games trailers and Youtube Rewinds, with only positive comments! When your corporate overlord tells you to be happy then be happy goddamit! But how likely will it be that some of those dislikes will just convert to negative or even hateful comments? Which then might negatively affect the creator? Mentally, or however, I dunno. If you get 100 dislikes on average on your video, then you might only get 50 dislikes once the public dislike count disappears. And those missing dislikes will become 10 or 20 negative comments.
  12. I liked my old Gameboy color but I was always jealous of my friend's yellow one. The old Nintendo way of doing transparent definitely put me off this design, mainly because of the purple color. If it had been clear then this might have been a different story.
  13. I agree with most of what you say, I'm in the same boat as many other average gamers who think of trying Linux before switching to Win 11. Which I probably won't after watching this challenge. My only criticism with the video was that Linus went from "average gamer" to "console peasant", when he decided to yolo the steam install. Yes, it isn't unreasonable that an average gamer might think that this is all part of the plan and those files will just get reinstalled orupdated automatically. On the other hand it is also not unreasonable to assume that an average gamer might at least search for that error code or some help on the internet. When the average gamer decides to try Linux, everybody and their dog made them aware of the fact that Linux won't be an autopiloted ride like good old trusty Windows, and they will face issues along the way. And with that awareness in mind, and after getting such a weird error notification for a basic task, the alarm bells should ring very loudly, even in the head of an average gamer. Time will tell when there'll be a "PeasantOS", for average gamers like me who just want something as easy as Windows, with all the compatibilities but without having to use Windows. Or command lines. Edit: Maybe the video didn't do a very good job of portraying how much Linus was actually searching for a solution.
  14. The video was entertaining. But not a video that convinces me of trying Linux myself. I'm just not resilient enough to deal with this type of setup and troubleshooting. There are still a few more interesting videos to come , although I doubt they'll change my opinion. I think I'll keep wearing my "OS floaties" and begrudgingly update to Win11 at some point, with outdated hardware.
  15. I can't wait for those challenge vids. I'm a user that thinks about switching to Linux, because it is interesting and maybe a decent alternative to Windows 11. And if I ever consider the switch to Win 11 and if I have to (and want to) do a proper clean Os install, then I might give Linux a try to see if it is something for me. But I also have less software- and troubleshooting knowledge than Linus, so I'm scared. In the early 2000s, our school had two computer rooms. An old one with old machines that took forever to do anything. And a brand new one, in a brand new room, with brand new machines. But barely anyone used that room becaues all those new machines had Linux installed, whereas the old af machines ran on Windows. Sure, a begginer friendly Linux version in during the early 2ks is probably not comparable with a beginner friendly Linux version in 2021, but still. Simply the feeling of "this is different and thus wrong or too bothersome to get used to" is so hard to disregard.
  16. They probably sold it to another entity and are not legally allowed to keep it anymore. Or whatever legal shenanigans there are behind this move. I doubt they actually give up this trove of data.
  17. I'll wait for the WAN Show so Linus can convice me that getting actual good fabric for your stuff is well worth the price and that this piece of cloth is justified. I mean, something like this should be a freebie, regardless of quality. At least it shows that apple cares about their customers, or makes it look like they'd care.
  18. How valid is dbrand's car part comparison? Would everything be fine if dbrand had offered plates with a slightly different curvature, or a slightly different mechanism to attach their plates?
  19. It's cool, maybe even fair for that price, but too expensive for me. Cool idea though.
  20. Thank you very much! I'll go check them out. I gave them the advice to wait until black friday sales, maybe there are decent sales.
  21. Hi The titles is basically the tl;dr. I'm looking for something with the same or similar qualities but smaller, more like 40" to 50". My parents came up to me and told me "We want a new modern tv, you have a budget of ~1000€ (~1200 USD), you know tech, do the thing!" My dad would like and oled tv because of the awesome colors It should be a smart tv ("for netflix and such, internet etc.") They want the ability to record tv shows somehow. The device will be the main tv in their home, it will run 5-12 hours daily. 2-4 in the morning, 4-8 in the evening and a bit inbetween. They are the classic tv watchers, (3 channels and maybe movies if they run somewhere else). And because it will run a long time daily, I am hesitant to recommend oled devices, although the burn-in has probably gotten better. And I'm not sure if there are good oled tvs out there for that budget. "Smart functions", meaning the ability to connect to the internet and a recording feature like usb recording are basically everywhere on devices of that price range anyway. But even 55" is a bit too big for their tv desk, or so they say. It is indeed a bit massive, but they are sitting 3m ( ~10ft) away of it, so the size is actually really nice. It just takes a lot of space on the desk and my parents simply aren't used to that size. I attached an image of the "setup" so you can judge for yourself. The red square is a 55" tv. That's why they asked me to look for something smaller. And I'm doing so, albeit reluctantly. And I'm still trying to convince them. Honestly, if it weren't for that damned phone charger, the pens, post it notes and the stuff I cut out, this wouldn't be an issue, but my mom really doesn't like moving that stuff somewhere else. "It has been like this since forever." Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
  22. Yesterday. And after yesterday's experience I'll probably keep it that way. Out of the few times I used a mobile app to pay for groceries, it has failed me three times. When it works, it is super convenient, quicker than paying with an actual card or cash, and during covid times also more hygienic. The latter was exactly the reason why I applied for all of this. I didn't trust this system yet and had cash with me when this happened the first time. The second time this happened was, when the app got a visual overhaul, no notificationwhatsoever, and I had to re-register my card/account again. Impossible under stress, right at the checkout. Luckily a friend who was right behind me paid for it in the meantime. Yesterday I stood at the checkout, the line filled with groceries, with several people behind me, and the mobile pay app of my bank didn't work.I didn't have any issues the days before so I trusted the app to work "as usual". Well, I didn't have any cash with me, nor a car, so you can imagine how shitty this situation was. And while a debit- or credit card would definitely be handy, I'm not trusting myself with not getting into unwanted financial dilemmas.
  23. Mh, I've can't say that I felt poorly advised by ltt videos when they show something I might be interested in. At best I get a product demonstration that convinces me, at worst I get demonstration where I know I won't get royally fucked over. And if I'm actually interested in getting one of these products, I still look up other channels or sites. I don't have a big problem with ltt using those products for personal gains. It's definitely not best practices and makes me quite envious because I can't make use of it. Have you seen the video of the recent studio tour? Man, they have so much hardware lying around that I could build an infinitely petter pc than I have right now, with just their unused hardware that's already 2-4 years old. And taking them home after a video or not sending them back is just how the game is played, if it isn't some excessively large or expensive product. I remember Linus having to send back a lot of hard drives iirc? Companies sell 100k items, and allocates 5k of these for advertisting purposes. What should the company do with those one-time used products that get sent back to them in varying conditions? GN will probably put that product a lot harder to the hest than LMG, and LMG will use it a lot more than fairly known unboxing channels. I also don't know the legal aspects of advertising, sponsoring and the like, which makes it easier for me to be somewhat chill about it.
  24. 40€ - 60€( 47-79 USD) for a set of 6. Or a similar price range for one ratchet screwdriver plus an assortment of bits and markup.
  25. It's as if you only read the first sentence of my comment and stopped right there. And I expected more from this because of the way Linus talked about this video in the past. To me, this video was close to a nothingburger, even when you keep the limitations in mind. For example different locations, different camera settings, different lighting, Mr. Curry's sensory overload of talking and building what seemed to be his first pc build ever, etc. At least I expected the video to be more concise. Make it the 101st pc building tutorial, but this time with an NBA Star! Maybe better camer angles and lighting would have sufficed. Seeing him screw in the components or putting in those connectors could have made all the difference already. Or make it more entertaining. How, you might ask? I don't know! Maybe a three point throw of the ram sticks right into their slots! Or a cpu alley-oop with the technician that gave Mr Curry a helping hand!
