    My thoughts
It's great to see that AMD may finally bring some competition to nvidia after all these, and who knows, maybe even decrease GPU prices. But I doubt it. Still even if they can't compete with the 3090 there's a chance (if this is true) that AMD could potentially win over the GPU market, of course, if they offer better value, which they most likely will. This and the extra v-ram their adding to their cards gives me hope.

GeForce RTX 3080 sees increasing reports of crashes in games

As the second article mentions, the matter is being discussed on LTT, OverClockers, and Computer Base, as well as reddit and other forums.

We already knew from benchmarks that the 3080 cards don't really come with notable extra headroom for overclocking on air. But it seems that even the factory clocks being given on some models are too much for what the cards can actually handle.

I think this isn't good for the card manufacturers, as it could result in a lot of returns if the cards can't handle their advertised specs. And if Nvidia are selling their GPUs to AIBs with their potential already completely maxed, then that doesn't leave AIBs much to work with to offer different tier models.

Could this be fixed with a firmware or driver update? I'm skeptical - unless the update actually downclocks the cards sufficiently so that they won't crash. But I hope another solution can be found. And I wonder if AIBs will revise the production template of their RTX 3080 models to solve this issue for cards yet to be produced.

Well if what is said is true then this is a terrible anticonsumer move to gimp your lower level card to make your higher level look better. If you are going to make it perform worse than the stock card then price it below the stock card. Of course the rep backtracked from that statement probably because they got yelled at by HQ. They apparently blacklisted gamers nexus because of a negative review and because of that I decided to avoid zotac cards and apparently I made the right decision.

they maybe expect it not to throttle at 70 degrees? its not mentioned anywhere and probably most people still dont know. and there are many other similar priced cards from other AIB partners that dont have this problem

It starts throttling at 70 degrees that's not normal and if you are going to make it worse than the FE on purpose then price it below the FE

My desk is mostly just covered in beer bottles. My idea of cleaning it is to implement a "cleaning rate ratio" consisting of the rate at which I remove items from the desk over the rate at which I bring items to the desk.

For example: If I get up to get a beer, but I bring two (2) bottles to the recycle bin when I get up, the ratio is 2 / 1 = 2.0; so I'm doing good.

LOL, Still a heluva lot neater than my horrific hell-hole (As the table itself is actually clean)...Yet I was born with a chaotic mind and even though I'm properly medicated, it's still 11.5/10!...Oddly enough cable management is serviceable...

You might be bottlenecked if you're going to use a USB SSD, but other than that you should be good to go! Preferably you'll want to use Thunderbolt for the direct PCIe interface but if you don't have it you should be fine.

Are you considering the USB 3.0 Samsung drive? That thing is wicked fast and you are going to be set with it.
