  1. My brother recently got a new laptop so is selling off his old desktop, mostly wants to sell off the bits individually but will sell the mobo/cpu/cooler/ram as a bundle Nzxt source 530 Bequiet dark rock 3 16gb 2133 ddr4 corsair vengeance Corsair rm850x psu WD blue ssd 1tb I7 7700k Gigabyte ga z270x ultra Msi 1080ti armor oc Just looking for an idea of reasonable prices, had a peruse on ebay and gpu seems to be about 3-400 but not sure on the rest Thanks
  2. Scan are normally pretty good, got my 5900x from them last week for £540 (is £630 at Currys) though those do look like partner boards which are generally more expensive

    5900x

Awesome, they're now out of stock again, but glad I could help at least one person. And yeah it's a little pricier than I've seen elsewhere (cheapest I seen is £540) but this is the first time I've seen any stock anywhere in weeks. Now I just need to get my 30 series card and my build is a go!

Just managed to bag one on scan.co.uk they still have some in stock if there is anyone in the UK still up and looking for one (12:40 am 15/04)
  5. It's incredibly rare to be CPU bottlenecked these days. Unless you're pairing a 2080 with a budget i3 or something you're almost always gonna be GPU limited
  6. Partly. I did IT at A level and the first year of an IT degree. (albeit 15 years ago) There was a business studies component along side it, but it was separate and non compulsory. There were modules within the IT course focusing on the use of tech in business and how it has changed over the years both in usage and the effect it has on a business. It was only a small part however, the bulk of the course was more about the tech itself and it's wider impact on society. There were also some practical technical modules, computing hardware and networking where we dismantled and rebuilt machines and set up LANs, and then in a separate one we built websites. Of course things will be different in different countries and between different schools and things may have changed over the years, but I think generally there will be some business parts but they won't be the bulk of the material.
  7. So about as reliable as car manufacturer quoted MPG figures then.
  8. There is a button in excel that will do it, however it does also default to 2 decimal places which may or may not be desired, however right next to it you do also have the 'more decimals' and 'less decimals' buttons. There doesn't seem to be any way to change the check box default.
  9. It's probably less than 1%. I believe that number was for a 1080 and that card can only just saturate pcie 3.0 8x 1660 super probably doesn't come close.
  10. I had a similar issue, tried several different DP cables, RMA'd the motherboard in the end and it worked fine from then on
  11. Or is it a pipe dream? I've been looking for a while and wondering if the feature set I'm looking for even exists. 1440p 120hz+ HDR Gsync ultra wide 5120x1440 so around 45-46 inch I believe
  12. Yeah perfectly legit site, they even have a physical shop you can go to if you want. Not the cheapest, and I've not bought any of their prebuilts, but their scansure insurance is pretty good (insures against damage caused when installing new components) and they offer interest free credit for a decent 10 months.
  13. Oh of course I know this, it was more about is it overpriced when compared to machines of similar spec etc, hoping to convince out It and procurement teams that the money can be spent more efficiently. I have to agree with Yolosnail though it seems unlikely I'd be able to convince them of that. I might however be able to get them to up the budget so we can buy better HP machines.
  14. Aye, that's true. I am a little bit hopeful though, our team is one of the only teams in the building to have desktops (everyone else has laptops, about 1000 people in the building vs 10 in our team) so we already have a bespoke patching cycle and images. Just hoping I can convince someone high up enough it's worth the hassle. Or get them to up the budget enough that we can get a machine with similar performance to the AMD machine from HP.
  15. I think I know the answer to this, but just checking. Where I work is looking to give us around a £650 budget (per machine) for a new machine each, however traditionally we've only been able to choose from a pre approved list of HP business desktops and they seem way over priced for what they are. https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=4CZ70ET&opt=ABU&sel=DTP is the one they're pushing us towards. Whereas I feel like for the money we could get something much better and more powerful for the kind of work we're doing (visual studio, sql server and power bi dev) Something like this PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor £235.58 @ Aria PC Motherboard Gigabyte B450M DS3H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard £59.94 @ AWD-IT Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR4-2800 Memory £56.68 @ Amazon UK Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR4-2800 Memory £56.68 @ Amazon UK Storage SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive £50.99 @ Amazon UK Video Card Sapphire Radeon R5 230 2 GB Video Card £47.58 @ CCL Computers Case Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 MicroATX Mid Tower Case £40.47 @ Scan.co.uk Power Supply be quiet!
