  1. Any boring career full stack devs on here? (React, Java, Angular, Oracle, etc...)

What are yall's favorite tech stack to use lately?

In my 9-5 it's just Angular, Spring, Oracle SQL, and PostgreSQL all day long. Very corporate and boring lol

I like LTT content and they seem like good peoples.

I like GN content and they seem like good peoples.

I went into the GN video, with an open mind - knowing GN would not post such a title lightly.

GN made some valid and inarguable points.

GN also did a fair bit of reaching, with quite a bit of assumption, supposition, and editorialization.

While the overall factual points made are not in dispute, the GN video cannot be considered 100% objective, unbiased reporting.

Here's what appeared to have happened:

An enthusiastic LTT employee, and therefore LTT by extension, took an accidental jab at, well everyone, but including GN.

LTT did not apologize to the satisfaction of GN and a portion of the community.

GN responds to accidental jab and unsatisfactory apology with a roundhouse knockout blow. The roundhouse was so devastating and accurate, it kind of muted the dirty bits about it.

I'm not on anybody's side and I'll keep on enjoying both channels content, but I legit have every expectation that we'll see at least 70% of GN factual concerns addressed and improved in LTT content within the next 8-12 weeks.

And I would hope that GN does a 6 or 12 month follow up - you know, like they do frequently for journalism.

Agree with this. The points made in the video made me pretty much ignore any possible petty reason it was made in the first place.

  3. I'm not surprised that many of LTT superfans are in defensive mode, but Steve's video was very fair in my opinion as a long-time viewer (and supporter) of the channel and LTTStore. I was there watching in the NCIX days. The garage days. Even had a dang Vessel membership.

I am disappointed in Linus' response to the situation. Adam was correct in wanting to retest the product properly. It is not just Linus' integrity that he damages in that situation, his employees also share the backlash by association. Anyways, the video alone was one thing, auctioning off the prototype is some wild negligence from the top-down that I can't even imagine in my head. How many hands did that thing touch to get all the way to auction before someone at the top realized they were supposed to send the product back? Linus statement on the issue personally reads like, "We are paying for this to go away, so I wish everyone would let it go."

"It saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this." It saddens me how this company has known quality control has become such a problem and over time it seems like nothing has changed, or if there were changes, not big enough to stop a 2-minute video from having like a hundred asterisk corrections. How often do we hear you and Luke complain about people spreading misinformation over the internet, when LMG in some ways is guilty of the exact same thing.

  4. Funny how when a topic created about an app made by one of the biggest companies/banks in America for a platform that is really struggling turns into

"I hate them, they *insert conspiracy here*"

I think the point of this thread was that one of the largest banking companies is actually making an app for Windows Phone, which can easily help the adoption of Windows Phone platform. This is actually great news, since the only issue I had with Windows Phone is that it got dropped from BoA app support, and that is the bank I use. Let's see if I can get my Lumia Icon updated to WP10...

Haven't installed 10 yet. Though I am hesitant. As for privacy, Win10 has features 8.1 and 7 didn't have. One of those being backing up your personal files onto MS servers to help provide a more "personalized experience". I use Linux mostly now. though I will continue using Windows for some things, one of those being gaming. I actually trust 8.1 a bit more than 10.

Be careful. Even at the beginning, not all privacy settings are displayed.

I guess this has more to do with principle than anything, but yeah I definitely do agree that privacy is definitely an issue, but technically agreeing to the terms and conditions... you know.

So much things collect personal info these days... Your smart phone, the apps you use, hell even google does the same. In my opinion, if your PC does it, it shouldn't make much of a difference. If a big agency really wanted to know things about you, they probably wouldn't need you to use Windows 10 to figure you out. Just saying.

    Everything.

Crashes are the most concerning. 8.1 programs crashed quite often. Windows 7 was actually stable with most or all of my programs.

Also privacy is a pretty big concern of mine. I don't trust Microsoft hence why not being able to revert to 8.1 is worrying.

Though a retail key for 8.1 becoming a 10 retail key isn't that bad.

Speaking on my own behalf, I haven't actually run into stability issues with Windows 10. All of my components are overclocked, and I was worried that it might affect system stability in that sense, but thankfully it doesn't. In actuality, program compatibility is more or less the same as Windows 8.1 with some weird programs here and there not working right.

I think you should be fine with privacy as long as you make sure to read over the advanced features during initial setup and actually choosing which feature to turn on. AFAIK there actually isn't anything else really sending stuff to Microsoft.

    Which programs do you run?

  7. Playstation Plus as a requirement for online service is still *kinda* in its infancy still and XBOX Live (I don't really care if you're a diehard PC gamer) has a reputation for being quite nicely maintained and it just works and has been for a long time.

Also I don't know the sales of XBOX One exclusives compared to PS4, but I assume a lot of it has to do with that for sure. The other stuff really is the same. Maybe slightly better on PS4 due to slightly higher resolution.

  8. There are 8GB versions, however I'd say that there's more 4GB ones. All 390 and 390X have 8 gigs of VRAM though.

Yeah, can't remember which R9 390/x we have at the Best Buy I work in, but on top of being priced really well, I can get a solid discount on them. So at this time, getting a 290/x probably isn't worth it.

4GB is plenty for 1080p gaming. My R9 290 is an absolute beast at 2560x1080 ultrawide resolution too. Can't imagine how overkill 8GB would be for me lol.

  9. We haven't received any more info than you guys have. #Google

I've heard that they are trying to create TV-level content to compete with services like Netflix (eg. the Pewds horror show or whatever).

    Oh, ewww.

Netflix comes out with amazing content because of the amount of money they rake in from subscribers consolidated as one, maybe plus several executive producers... Unless YouTube will be paying these dudes a significant amount of money to form a Web-show series... its not gonna be great

  10. This thought just came to me...

Has Linus ever thought about selling work out shirts with LMG or LTT branding on it? That would be super cool.

Queue the "Do you even lift bro" quote on the shirt on the back with the LTT logo on the chest. Something like that.

But anyways, I would totally buy one.

Edit: Linus branded gym shorts would be fantastic
