  1. No idea how well eGPUs work, but that solution seems to make more sense to me. If you leave a whole PC there it won't have games downloaded to it and etc.
  2. I have not touched my Windows 10 install from the day I installed it to the day I sold my computer, about 6 years. Fresh installs for what reason?
  3. A14024_TPN. That seems to be the part number. Pretty sure you can find your way from here.
  4. 1060 has decent NVENC encoding. It's not flawless, but enough for a low budget stream.
  5. Unfortunately that would go against the idea of ridiculous marketing so they won't do that.
  6. https://github.com/prsyahmi/wic_heic/releases/ No need to buy anything.
  7. We just had a similar thread, transcoding is a waste of time for most things, having separate libraries for local (4K HDR) and streaming/mobile playback (1080p) is way easier than anything else. So you don't actually need performance from the server for media. Not sure what games require, but you would probably need something like a recent 8 core CPU, I'd guess. Maybe Zen4 build?

Ah yes, that feeling when you accidentally turn…

Yeah, I have lots of money to spend on tin foil too.
  9. High bitrate 1080p on a good TV with good scaling algorithm definitely looks fine. It's really hard to notice a difference.

I started using YouTube Music recently so that I don't have to pay twice. Works great.
  11. Inception! Either this is driver issue or it's hardware failing. So the attempt to fix it would be to install a different driver version. If the computer has warranty RMA immediately.
  12. Transcoding 4K is whack on Plex anyway. HDR to SDR tone mapping support sucks and actually finding 4K non HDR content is more work than it's worth. I just have separate files, 4K HDR for local playback and 1080p for remote.

I just made the mistake of rebooting Zorin OS a…

I recommend Windows. Personally haven't had a single issue with Windows since 8.1.
  14. More like 5. 6900XT is at best 10% faster than 6800XT.
  15. I don't see what could be wrong with it. A little ugly maybe.
  16. 6800XT to 6900XT is not an upgrade, that's throwing money away. Wait for RDNA3. It's coming out tomorrow...
  17. He has a basic Barracuda and wants more capacity though. So that's why I suggested more capacity for less and performance will be like a hair between them.
  18. NAS drives are definitely fast enough for anything I'd ever want to use a HDD for these days. N300 is good, but I have read responses that it is louder than 5400-5900RPM alternatives. Not to mention more than 20 dollars more expensive for 4TB.
  19. I would get WD Red Plus or Ironwolf NAS, much cheaper and will be quieter because they're not 7200RPM.
  20. The current law like any other are open to interpretation, so even if EU tried to argue that Apple is not following it, Apple could defend themselves by arguing that they are not doing it maliciously and other arguments like that. Just don't buy Apple things and that's that.
  21. Right to repair already exists in the EU, but the focus has been on appliances at first. Either because of lobbying or just because it's easier to implement. It's harder to police it on stuff that is so high end, but I imagine it will come later down the line. https://9to5mac.com/2022/09/01/smartphone-repair-law/
  22. 1440P with a 4090? I'd say at least get an ultrawide 1440P or go straight to 4K.
  23. Do you need a monitor too? If you want to build a "future proof" build you pretty much have to go with Zen4. Raptor Lake is not the future, it's only good now.
