It should be fine, your BIOS will probably run it around 1333/1600 at first boot and you should be able to bring it up to at least 2133 if not 2400 from there.

eBay or Amazon can work wonders. eBay you can find i5-2500k and Z77 mobos quite cheap along with r9 380s or HD7950s

Since your monitor is 2560 by 1440, it really doesn't matter what connector you use, as DVI supports up to 2560 by 1600 60 Hz, but if you were to use a 4k monitor, I would recommend DisplayPort.

Ended up going with Lubuntu for the large community. Found out that I needed flash player installed to play 720p videos, since Firefox would only play 360p with HTML5 video. Thanks everyone for the help.
