  1. Ah, when i posted i was specifically thinking of the WAN show (2 weeks ago?) where Linus referenced his "realization" that P100 was the designation for "Compute cards" and GP100 was the designation for "Graphics cards"? Am i wrong about that? I though I heard something of that sort said early in the stream?
  2. I'm sorry if i offended you, but the reference is towards the hubris of the designers who thought it was unsinkable and the captain who was more concerned with a record than safety and it was completely not directed at the death and suffering that occurred as a result of the hubris of the 2 parties listed above. But if you get offended at every titanic reference especially one as terrible and weak as mine... then i'm sorry but you'll run into that almost weekly.
  3. I think... That polaris has the potential to increase AMD's bottom line due to a few things. 1. The most promising that I see is: laptop/notebook market - if they can make a great low power GPU that beats Nvidia in perf/watt then they may take a large chunk of this market from Nvidia 2. middle tier performance cards make up the majority of the market, specifically in the 970/1070/r9 390/r9 490 price to performance range, IF AMD can get some serious wins in this market then they'll have some positive cash flow. That polaris has the potential to be a headache for AMD if: 1. The top end polaris cards were recently cited as having "nearly 980Ti performance" --- Nvidia is claiming GTX1070's performance is "equal to Titan X" (no overclocking in that comparison). The GTX1070/R9 490 class is the most popular class of cards and if the 490 is only shooting at the 1060Ti level of performance instead of meeting/beating the GTX1070 then AMD will AGAIN be fighting NOT from a performance parity but will be fighting from a Cost for performance perspective which means they give up money to make up for the lack of performance. 2. VEGA seems to have been pushed up considerably (from late Q4/Q1 to possibly Q3) this seems to indicate that AMD knows they will not have the performance crown until they come out with VEGA and have a distinct possibility of losing it again when 1080Ti/Titan XYZ comes out in Q1. Remember, the current Highest performance card on the market tends to get the MOST publicity for the brand... Hence LTT and many other sites showing off their high end systems with Nvidia hardware due to where the performance crown currently lies.
  4. I'm not concerned that a switch to GDDR5X would be bad, I'm concerned that because this post lists GDDR5X instead of HBM2 that it could possibly indicate that what we are seeing (the leaked info) is wrong/has no merrit.
  5. Maybe they'll start using names with Titan in the new Name instead of using a letter after it? ex. Titanic ?
  6. Hmm, interesting... Though the GDDR5X listed is concerning since the P100 uses HBM2. However this is labeled P102 which could mean a large change from the P100 to GP102 to allow for GDDR5X instead of HBM2. But, in the end this is still an unofficial very early leak (Q1 2017 is a way off yet)
  7. From what I've seen: 1: your temperatures look fine (below 80c for CPU and below 70c for GPU). 2: Your performance issues seem legitimate but odd due to the capabilities of your computer. What I would do: 1: Lookup some reputable benchmarks from TomsHardware.com or Anandtech.com and their graphical settings to compare to your system's performance at the same settings. 2: NOT upgrade, when the Pascal/Polaris cards hit it appears they will not provide any meaningful performance increase over a 980ti/FuryX BUT should have a lower price and when released will likely push the current 980Ti/Fury X cards down in price - AMD has stated Polaris 10 is NOT an enthusiast card - Fury X will remain AMD's enthusiast card until Vega is released in Q1 2017. - Polaris 10 is "benching very close to a 980Ti" was recently reported and should be significantly less expensive - Pascal GM104(GTX 1070/1080) --should ship with 8GB ram GDDR5 and GDDR5X --should have similar performance to 980Ti at a lower price point - Pascal GM100 (next Titan/GTX1080Ti) -- appears that it will provide a large performance increase -- appears it will NOT be available to consumers untill Q4 2016 or Q1 2017 Edit: Also do not fret over DX12, the big feature of DX12 being discussed for AMD vs Nvidia is Asynchronous Compute(AMD natively supports it, Nvidia does not) - Developers have commented that optimizing for Async is HARD and Time Consuming - Games will still work very well even Without Async BUT an properly optimized game can see 10% or more performance improvement - You will NOT need Async to play DX12 games
  8. Fractal r5 and paint the white pieces red... done.
  9. I personally use Fractal Venturi 120mm fans in my radiator setups and I really like them, they're a large improvement over the Corsair SP (LED version) fans I had before. They're quiet and have excellent vibration dampers built in, I can definately say that my coolant pumps in my system are louder than the fans.
  10. The reference cooler on the reference 780/Titan/970/980/980ti/Titan X like the one I have... I personally consider it to be loud compared to the nonreference cards i've owned, being EVGA ACX 2.0 and Gigabyte Windforce. Although I've not had a comparison to a reference 290x however... This is what we are talking about right?
  11. I saw this mentioned elsewhere... remember that the R9 Nano uses the same chip as the Fury X and this Pro Duo. Same Chip Same 4GB HBM1 VRam per chip(4+4=4 in this case, the 8GB's listed is NOT cumulative for crossfire) AND: R9 Nano = $499 only thing it's missing is some better cooling.
  12. Sooo... $500 is not realistic most of the time. but they can be had for $575 used pretty easily (Here) or from EVGA B-Stock for $599 (Here). So we'll say $1200 for two 980ti's or $1800 for three. Just a quick note, Just because Sweden doesn't have that kind of market doesn't mean that these numbers don't apply to a large group of people and therefore they should be shared. No need to flame someone because they said something that doesn't apply to every person on earth, It applies to them and many others and is therefore valid but can be ignored by you.
  13. I would personally prefer the MSI over the Strix, if you plan on overclocking the MSI cards are considered to be better performers. Nothing wrong with the Strix, but many on these forums speak very highly of the MSI's performance and are not so praising of the strix. See --- Here --- for the 970 owners club forum posts.
  14. The card should have no issues lasting for years. If it's not dead on arrival and makes it through 30minutes of stress testing it should be good. Is there no form of buyer protection with this purchase? Something should say you can return/refund if the card is doa or defective. I assume the sight is like ebay.
  15. Thats a good price for a good card. That card could be sold for 200-250 USD.
  16. My personal 1440p --- here --- only 25" but it's IPS, bezel-less on 3 sides, has little to no light bleed and mine overclocked to 85hz
  17. Hmmm, well EVGA is considered one of the best, i personally like the classified. The Asus matrix platinum is considered to be very good as well, just ask Lays, he's got one.
  18. Well, a 295x2 is slightly more powerful than 970's in sli See --- here --- And --- here --- And --- here --- And 980's are what... 15%ish more powerful than a 970?
  19. I can agree that at 100 bucks, 30 bucks saved for a slightly older card isn't amazing but at that price it's 30% less for the same performance. At the time I got them, being this past summer(wow... that long ago?), the gtx950's were not released yet.
  20. Just from my area, here's a few examples: Silly gtx680 $350 Reasonable gtx970 $250 Interesting gtx590 $125 Awesome gtx980 (the one I got) Reasonable gtx780 $200
  21. There are many, many people who overvalue their graphics cards. Ebay works well for certain cards and at certain times. Some cards seem to be consistently overvalued and I simply do not pay attention to those cards, There are some pretty good deals to be had in some cases however. In the last 8 months off of EBAY I had noticed what I consider a sweet spot in the GTX760, I've picked up two GTX760's for between 100 and 110 USD for my second PC and for a friend's PC, I would consider them to be a pretty good deal, they offer similar performance to a GTX950 for 50 USD less. I've been watching cragslist pretty hard for the last 4-5 months and have seen anywhere from a GTX680 for 350 USD(absurd) to GTX960's for 190 USD(silly, used at new price) to decent value GTX760's for 100ish USD to crazy deals(that I jumped on IMMEDIATELY, because they disappear) 4 months ago I found a Titan X for 450 USD(which I got) 2 weeks ago I found a GTX980 for 275 USD(which I got) The great deals don't stick around, I spend 5 minutes everyday after work looking at craigslist for any deals, I search for "gtx" to cover all Nvidia cards. I'm not personally very knowledgeable about AMD's lineup and Bitcoin mining is always a concern so I don't usually check for AMD cards but when I do I simply search "radeon"
