Grimsace's Achievements

  1. So my first laptop I received when I was 13 as a Christmas gift. Looking back at it now it was a piece of HP junk, but it was my piece of HP junk . So I had it for about two years and I would try to play some games on it, they ran poorly, but they still ran. Then one day I tried to open the notebook, (I never treated it poorly) and snap the screen hinges broke. Needless to say I was very angry and it definitely sucked at the time. The screen still worked though and I still have it. It's probably the first laptop that could transform into a tablet.
  2. Here's my opinion of mobas: (Played 700+ Games) League is very balanced and has many more playable characters than most mobas. It balances team objectives well with giving a person the chance to hyper-carry but only if they are legitimately just that much better than their opponent (i.e. their lane opponent so they can get fed early and really snowball). That said about 1/10 people in the community seems to be really toxic. That may not sound that bad, until you consider the fact that each game is made up of ten players. Beyond that the lore is really interesting and riot has set up a great community in many other ways, with the community pumping out additional content in all forms to keep people entertained. (Played 200+ Games) Smite is a very fast paced and much more action focused moba. For example, in league I usually prefer mage type characters, but in smite I prefer strait up assassins. There is much more focus on actual map positioning in smite, because you can legitimately sneak up behind people in the laning phase. This seems to be balanced by a much harder hitting jungle than in most mobas, because the junglers usually have to grab some lane exp before they can even start roaming. An AOE of the same size compared to your character in a moba like league seems bigger even though it isn't necessarily because of your perspective. The community doesn't give me many problem although there is the occasional troll. I also had much more fun in the non-standard game modes than I do in lets say the crystal scare. (Played 200+ Games) DOTA 2 is very similar to league. The difference mainly stems from the attitude valve has about their characters and certain game mechanics. This game is harder than league mechanically, in my opinion. This is most likely caused by the addition of turning speed, how item distribution works and a very not intuitive stat system. That said harder does not mean worse I love dota for it's complexity and over the top character abilities. It really allows for hyper carrying (which can be good or bad) and allows the greatest chance for your mechanical skill to show through. That said it sometimes feels a bit over weighted which seems to drag down on the team experience, as the correct answer 9/10 times seems to be do what's best for me as opposed to do whats best for the team in the early game. (Played 200+ Games) Heroes of the Storm is a very team oriented game. It is much easier to pick up than most mobas and as a result has not gold system, just exp. which is shared team wide. This makes it virtually impossible to 1 (or 2 or 3) man carry. The team that works together best seems to always win, but your not always on that team. Pugs can really drag you down, and with no way to surrender as of yet (it's still in beta at the time of this post) that can be incredibly frustrating. This also means solo or even duo queuing are a nightmare as it seems like you flipping a coin for your teammates. The flip-side to this is all of the maps have different objectives, which is a nice refresher, healing is definitely more important than in most mobas and some of the characters are very unique because they do not operate like a lot of other characters from other mobas (i.e. Abathur). Ultimately I enjoy this the most when I have a full team of 5 people. Note that this is all in my opinion from what I have played in these games.

  5. Don't get me wrong, I think your right about apus being the future, however from what I've seen I don't think we will be able to adequately use the graphics core on the apu in addition to a dedicated graphics card. You do bring up a very good point about dx12 though so we'll see, and I'd be happy to be wrong about this.
  6. I don't think anyone outside of AMD or their fabs knows how the Zen processors will be upon launch. However I'd like to see AMD give Intel a reason to produce a balls to the wall CPU again. I'm also hoping that the next generation of AMD CPUs are actually CPUs with no graphics core on them unlike their current line of APUs. In response to Well this is true, that doesn't mean AMD, especially after winning huge bids in the home console market, couldn't reinvest that money into top of the line features such as their hyper-threading like technology (forgot their marketing term). I'm not saying that AMD will not be the cheaper option, but it would be nice for them to give intel a run for their money.
  7. In my opinion: Windows 8 is one of the best Windows operating systems from a technical perspective. Programs seem to run efficiently and I have only seen one blue screen on my windows 8 machine and that was from a faulty ram stick. The task manager is much better than any other windows task manager and the windows error log continues to be a really useful resource for trouble shooting. It also will have support for Dx12 and has support for many other low level apis. However it suffers from some of the worst ui decisions I've seen in a long time. Doing something as simple as putting in the windows 7 start menu and removing the new touch friendly interface (which does work brilliantly for surface type devices in my opinion) would have made for a much better user experience. Also it seems as if they hid some of the most important functionality (such as shutting down your computer or managing options in the control panel). It would have been better for them to develop a separate OS for tablets and desktops than the halfway point we got with Windows 8. TLDR Brilliant under the hood. Horrible UI.
  8. Well this seems like a good place. Long time watcher first time on the forums. The username is actually a shortened form of Grim's Ace. Which i got from shortening my older name of "acegrimreaper." That is derived from my original name which was "acesking2008" until I found out that there was a mobster in the Chicago area going by the same name (was watching an episode of gangland when I was 10 or so). So the username looking like "Grimace" was completely unintentional when I first came up with the name "Grimsace".
